Android 4.3 has officially been announced – it's been in the wild on Google Play Edition devices for a while, but the unveiling was put off for today. So, what's new? Well, 4.3 is a minor upgrade so it brings minor improvements and refines the user experience, rather than delivering game-changing features.
Multi-user support was introduced in 4.2 and it's updated in 4.3 with the new restricted profiles. A restricted profile can limit what content and apps can be used – even limit in-app stuff like what levels of a game can be played.
The suite of stock apps has been updated - Hangouts now officially replaces Talk and Keep is available out of the box. The Drive, Chrome and Maps applications have been revamped too.
The way Android handles notifications has been changed too. For one, you can view your notification history. Also, third party apps have access to notifications, which will help smart watches and apps that sync notifications across devices.
There are plenty of changes under the hood too. OpenGL ES 3.0 is now supported (Google presented impressive improvements in 3D game graphics) and the graphics stack should be faster overall. For games, Google unveiled the Google Play Games app, which lets you keep track of what your friends are playing and a leader board of achievements in the game.
The "master key" exploit has been incorporated into Android 4.3, of course.
Bluetooth 4.0 with Low Energy mode (low power usage and longer range for low-bandwidth accessories like those fitness tracking gadgets) is now supported in stock Android. Before, each maker had to roll its own drivers. Also for Bluetooth, AVRCP 1.3 is supported, meaning the phone can stream metadata about the currently playing song to the wireless speakers (or your car's stereo).
Wi-Fi can be kept on at all times to determine your position, even when you toggle it off.
A new hardware-based encryption for DRM has been added so content providers will be more willing to stream high-quality content. A new Netflix app is among the first to make use of this and streams 1080p video (it's now available in the Play Store).
An Android 4.3 update will be available on Nexus devices from the Galaxy Nexus up (4, 7, 10, you name it). Google Play devices - Galaxy S4 and Nexus One Google Play Edition will get the update soon too.

Well yes, but I did see somewhere information that it will be faster and will be better on battery life because of the new BT stuff. However yes it was on this thread too i think
Not sure about that too cuz the bluetooth battery saver might be only for bt 4.0 unless the things are ported

Just back to hoping for kernel 3+ and a non-laggy or less-laggy than CM10, since CM10 is much smoother than CM10.1

Hi,
I just want to inform about an app that has been developed by xda members and has been reported as working properly on Galaxy S, and might be of your interest.
The aplication searchs in internet for tv shows video links that can be played directly on android, with an easy to use interface and fullscreen support.
There is a Lite (free) version with 12 preselected tv shows and a full (paid) version with 500+ tv shows.
The tv shows that can be watched on the lite version are :
Friends, The X-Files , Family Guy, Being Human, Monk, Lost, Heroes , Misfits, Prison Break , Breaking Bad, The Simpsons, South Park
You can read the full thread on this XDA forum link if you need more information.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=903351
I post it here because not all users go arround the forum , out of their device subforum.
If you find any bug or any suggestion, we are listening to improve, the aplication is still under development, the new feature "send liks to email to be watch on a computer" has just been added this week and we will have new features soon.
regards
Please, test fast forward and rewind in Frogmovz server, pause it before flash forward or rewind. Report if it work for Samsung galaxy S.
Thanks
It's one of my base apps on my phone, works like a charm. No lag, no buffer, smooth playback. Imagine this + Tv output
There are only 12 shows in the light version, but apperantly those are most of my favorite.
Lite shows:
- Friends
- X-files
- Family guy
- Being Human
- Monk
- Lost
- Heroes
- Misfits
- Prison break
- Breaking bad
- South park
- The simpsons

Tried on Heroes Frogmovz.
Hi,
Thanks for the reports.
We are working to make FF and RW working in karambavidz that is the only server that does not support it at the moment. It should be working soon. We are also considering direct download for files and the inclusion of movies.
Thanks for the continuous support from all XDA members.
Regards.
Movies would be a huge addition, I recommend moviewatch.in, there are loads of servers too choose from, say "putlocker" is one of the best.
I'd definetely buy the app(would even pay more) if you implement movies, I'm more of a movie watcher, than a show junkie.

Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda premium
I had been using crackle and a few other tv/movie Apps for the longest time on my original droid. Then one day the all quit working. I tried flashing different roms and even going back to stock to try to get it to work. I figured vzw or google blocked the use of these Apps until I seen this post the other day. Crackle nor any of the other Apps I used to work on my DINC2 either. Yes I have the latest flash installed. No shows or movies come up at all. My HBO Go works just fine though

That's odd, Crackle on Virtuous Unity is working for me. However, I flashed over to CM nightly 56 running Tiamat 1.1.2 and I get audio, but no video.
Running SkyRaider Zeus and Crackle seems to be working fine...
After some "monkeying" around I got it to work. I have restored my latest MIUI back up and it was not working on that either.
So, I cleared Dalvik cache, nothing. cleared app data, nothing again. I then moved the app from SD storage back to phone and Voila! It is working. I am going to try to see what happens moving it back to SD later. Maybe I got lucky. Anyone care to chime in that has had difficulties?
Edit: Back to not working. Audio, no video..

Here's the fix posted in the link just to make it easier:

There's a fix for any app using Flash, you have to use an app that can change permissions like ROOT explorer. Open up root explorer go to data/data/ "whatever browser you are using" then there will be a file that says app_plugins, after that it'll say com.adobe.flashplayer, then open .macromedia, flash player, and you'll want to hold click the config.data file and uncheck all permissions. And then BLAMO flash works again. I run a JTV player that uses embedded flash videos, and I had to do the same with that program.

The new Sony Music Unlimited App is available in Android Market for Froyo up to v2.3.7 but apparently not Honeycomb or ICS.
Seems Sony weren't aware that Google was producing a new version of Android according to an apparent official response to an email seeking availability of the [interesting] 'Music Unlimited App on ICS' with another question..."what is ice cream sandwich?"
Ironically the GN seems well suited to a streaming app like this - (as long as you have an unlimited data service). Its also one of the few online music and video streaming apps available outside the US.
What it would take to develop an ICS version?

How much free memory would you call OK ??
I've got a 1GB device and in 4.0.7 had >500MB free after boot, but with 4.0.24 it's only about 300MB. I've heard of people with 512MB devices who only have 35MB left after a fresh start.
From what I read, Android 4.0.4 should be using more memory than 4.0.3 ... but it seems a lot, 200MB more RAM usage.
Hi, I installed no problem.
by cons, regarding memory management there is a concern as for 4.0.24.
in the aplication menu program displays the current 0.00 using memory, I think again is good to have a return on 4.0.7, if not find a system to manage memory better knowing that v6 Supercharger is lag in games. Here is my return
Memory left from my 1gb = 300mb so yes, there appears to be a memory problem in latest build.
TrOjAn
Definitely using more memory now but it seems like it's put to good use, the tablet is wicked fast now! After the initial boot it took some time to find its feet which was most noticeable switching between home and panel screens but now it's been on a while and I've started most of my regular apps the difference is quite apparent. Starting up and switching apps has had a major makeover and is stunningly fast. As specified Wifi is now also connecting consistently now, tho it too early to say anything definitively. As of now, it seems absolutely worthwhile to upgrade.
oh my !
Have anyone who has had a replacement updated yet ...and if so ......how was it ??:good:
The sound volume is still useless would have been worth the upgrade to fix that!!!
TrOjAn
I switched from Clean_Slim&Fast_V01 to that version to see if the touchscreen issues are solved.
Had some problems with the aos-file, so in the end I had to format the disk - but it might be I just didn't get how to do it properly.
After installing everything seems okay. Touchscreen isn't that sensitive anymore (which is GOOD) but I'll wait some days of testing before being too cheerful.
If I press a little bit harder on the touchscreen, still there are those ghost fingers. But if I don't touch too hard, everything is fine (and better than before).
More results after a weekend of testing...
Just updated, everything seems to be a lot faster ......but best of all it works:good:

tried the 4.0.24 -> "bricked" my tablet -> tapping for 5s on the touch made the device to boot
formatted all by recovery menue (not easy to get in)
recovered 4.0.7 stock -> ok -> SDE still working !
installed slim clean and fast by surdu petru -> ok
installed 4.0.25 rooted by surdru petru -> ok

Hey everybody.
New at the forum, but i want to say that, untill now (6 hours in testing) i find the new 4.0.25 update quite solid. Had have touchscreenn probs, which were the most annoying among bugs from this tablet that i have experienced with former official releases, but have to say that for instance fake touche and phantom touch problems seems to be out of the way. This text for instance is smoothly typed in, and for testing, the registration on xda and using the app for android proves to be example of smooth inputting via the onscreen keyboard. Untill now i've experienced alot of trouble with entering text, auto-hitting backspace and enter key at random. Now it seems stable without calibrations for 6 hours. Keeping u posted

I have two note 8.0 tablets... One with JB, which is awesome, and a KK version from eBay. I have both running stock OS and rooted with Google stuff removed. Customized using framework modules on both.
4.4.x has a broken governor, which makes for a terrible time with media apps. Music stutters when screen blanks, video playback issues, and a lackluster multitasking ability makes it less fun than JB.
To compensate I must run performance profile to clean up governor control with media apps. Some work better with ondemand and others may need other settings.
I upped my kk to use Note 4.0 Tablet Touchwiz and S5 apps including file manager. Could not do it without app settings to adjust DPI per app basis.
KK version looks cool and works OK, but I prefer JB even though it is less tweaked with out ui and s5 apps.
