if you haven't actually changed hboot you are still on stock hboot, leave it. (you're just s-off with stock hboot partition layout, i'm wondering whether you understand what the hboots are? try here, recommend reading all the guides there)
s-off allows you to change hboot to use space more efficiently, and modify system partition while it's running. it's also much more useful to be s-off just in case things go wrong i.e. easier to fix.
(if you really want to go back s-on, you'll have to flash RUU, look at bortak's guide stickied to the top of Q&A, but i don't recommend it, not much point...)
No its just that I read somewhere that S-OFF can be dangerous and could brick your phone!!

Thank you that was very helpful......I think I will leave my phone at S-Off.

Don't worry too much about it, you probably read someone who didn't follow instructions.
The actual s-off procedure can be dangerous, but most likely to happen during the process itself
You are already successfully s-off so relax!

Hi
Another stupid noob has bricked his phone.
My situation. Whilst trying to unroot and restore to original state for warranty purposes (earpiece speaker has died)
I have a Desire Z that will boot either into hboot and clockwork recovery but wont boot past HTC screen when I install or restore a backup.
I presume this is because the wrong hboot, radio etc is now installed with S-ON.
I have been trying to do this but get stuck because I have no access to terminal
This
Anyone with some ideas?
Cheers in advance
UPDATE:
Now boots directly into Clockwork recovery but wont boot passed.
Can you tell us what your hboot says.

Did you use gfree method?
Sent from my HTC Desire Z/G2 Using XDA Premium App
Yes I used Gfree originally.
I am trying to flash a PC10IMG.zip via the bootloader but it no loner seems to want to see the file on my sdcard. It did before, which is how I got into this mess in the first place.
I am trying to flash the correct one back over which has a more recent Hboot, radio etc I think.

I wonder why... So it still not reading it? Also does ADB read your phone? I don't know if ADB would work though because you don't have the ent-hboot. It seems like even so you have S-on your still rooted since you can still go to clockwork?
Sent from my HTC Desire Z/G2 Using XDA Premium App
yeah thats whats getting me. I can use adb when booted into the recovery but I am struggling to get anything to work.
Any thoughts on how to proceed, if any?
well my only idea is to try to see if you can flash through ADB

Try looking for a DZ RUU that is specific to your carrier. If you can't find one, you could make a goldcard and install a WWE RUU (see if you're still super CID first).
Format your sdcard and try to unroot your phone again. )

thanks for the replies, got it back up running sort of, got a t-mobile rom installed but still need to flash the correct hboot, recovery and rom for that matter
Soooo. I've had my HTC desire (gsm) for about a year. I rooted it. Put new roms on it. Flashed it hundreds of times. But I got bored. So I thought is go back to stock HTC 2.3 sense.
Wrong.....
Now no matter what I try I can re-root it.
I've tried alpharevx.
I've tried apps.
I've tried fastboot.
I've tried hboot.
And a few other I can't even remember.
Sooooo. My question is this. How do I root a phone that doesn't want to be rooted and only wants to run stock 2.3
Any help greatly received.
Regards

Hmm revolutionary should work, as far as i know its the only 1 that can s-off hboot 1.02.0001
How r u using revolutionary? is ur phone booted up and usb bugging enabled? dont mean to offend u with those silly questions lol its just strange it dont work. Now saying that, maybe revolutionary does'nt work on all devices, i dont know. im only guessing. also i know that theres a few other programs that r supposed to do the job like SuperOneClick and there mite be one or 2 others but i really cant tell u if they work or not or if they cause problems, i really dont know.
Try unrEVOked_3.20…just 3.20!

z4root.
And if I remember one more
Even the Htcdev boot unlocker.
Still nothing works.

I have also done this. I downloaded alpharev.iso and made my disk.
Booted up the disk but the software can't read any info from my phone.

Man, keep your advise to yourself... seriously.
via xda app
I did it in the same order as you are trying now. First got stock 2.3 and then wanted root.
I remember it was easy. I just googled for a how to and I don't even think it was on xda, just a random page. I had the same hboot, gsm.
With your hboot ver revolutionary is the only option. Period.
Revolutionary only gives SOFF and allows you to install recovery.
You have to flash the su zip seperately to get root - superuser
One simple thing to try would be to change the computer, install hboot drivers and try revolutionary again.
Hope this helps.

Huh?........., can you explain what you mean? English is not my first language, but I am not dumb. In fact I got scholarship . I tried unrooting via SuperOneClick before and it works, so I'm just helping.
ok.
so ive now tried unrevoked 3.2
still not rooting
hmmm
so heres my plan
1) ruu stock 2.2
2)try as many different root gadgets i can get my hands on
3) if no luck try on mac instead of pc
4)if no luck. im buying an iphone. . . . . .grrrr
I Double checked with HTC ITALY and If I send my phone rooted etc then I will not pass through warranty.. soo I need to restore my DHD back to "stock" with root / radio / eng and all stuff back to original settings (and normal rom again).
From what I gathered my steps would be:
1. flash using the HTC program the original rom from their website
2. use visionary to reroot my phone?
3. One click Radio S-OFF tool to reverse that setting
But I'm kind of getting lost on the actual "steps" or sequence, and I'm worried I might brick my phone, could some one give me an updated guide, or just steps to do so I can do this correctly?
I'm sending it in because the home/menu buttons are broken (they lost all their touch sensibility, even under safe mode so its hw and not software).. ><
(i'm running s-off eng-off + Android Revolution HD 6.3.3 right now)
Thank you for your time.
Running the right RUU might do it.

Just got my dhd from the warranty center yesterday.
I've had a eng s-off, root and unofficial rom (last - blackout ics).
Root and s-off have been obtained with a AAHK tool - so were obtaind and s-on + stock rom.

I've tried it.
I've sent my phone to the warranty center twice - using AAHK to get stock rom and s-on before it - no problem, the phone was repaired.
All u have to do is to read the instructions first, the process of getting stock & s-on is quite simple - u need to choose a ruu, then choose a CID (if u are going to get s-on) and also confirm u want to get s-on later. That's it.

If you have s-off, you can access the system partition of your ROM to write files to it with a root explorer app.

s-on = security on
s-off = security off
basically with s-off u have pretty much full control over uf phone, but the main reason for s-off would be so that u can change hboots to gain more internal memory (data). u can still flash roms if ur s-on and rooted but if things go wrong, its much easier to fix if ur s-off. goto Desire Android Development, theres a few guides there, google "Alpharev" to learn a bit more about hboots and look here, my personal fav
