It's most likely the cable..... As stated above, make sure drivers are installed... try every usb port and try different cables.
I had the same problem until I used my friends myTouch 4G data cord. Just go and buy you a data cord for this phone

Another thing that hasn't been mentioned yet for you, download the files again. Could have been a corrupted file you downloaded, it happens sometimes.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
ive used three different cables, and two of them high quality, and downloaded the files like 6 times lol
still wasn't working... then I thought well maybe it's my computer... copied the files to my external drive and put them on my old computer and boom, it worked... anyone have any idea what would cause that to happen?
Are you putting the .tar in pda or phone?
It sounds like you are putting it in phone. There is not enough memory in those partitions, hence staying stuck in the same places each time.

Solution
Take the battery out before flashing.
Nothing worked for me either until I went into download mode with the usb cable connected and took the battery out.

If you don't have anything constructive to say.. Don't say anything at all. That's what we have moderators for.
None of us care about your 2¢.. It doesn't help anything except inflate your web ego.

Moderators can only do so much. We only have one, and he's not around a whole lot. Someones gotta pick up the slack. You shouldn't criticize people for standing up for xda rules.

You should at least answer the question before you chastise. Then again, you probably didn't know the answer to the question.
OP, like someone said, change the cable first. The one that comes with the phone is crap.

Actually, you are right. I have never had to deal with odin. But, I hate going to development and seeing a thread with [Q] in the title. It doesn't belong here. If it got put in the correct location, more people would see it. It all works out for a better community.

I was having the same problem til I Odined1.8 mines without the pit file. BTW, I'm using stock deodexed EF02 rom with no problems.

It is the wrong section, but have you ever tried to get an important question answered in the Q&A section. Sometimes it takes a day or more. Sorry had to say it.

The op posted the sixth reply to this thread in the wrong section that his problem was solved yet you people continue to bump this thread with your bickering. STFU AND LET IT DIE.

For some reason it wont install/restore.. either times out or just gives back an error saying could not install. First time I've run into something that just refuses to install.. has anyone been able to force it?

Go to Development subforum, in the stickies there is a flashing to alternate carrier roll up.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
Yeah man thats the same guide i tried to use. I had to use many other guides to get the programs needed, The phone i finally got to recognize the modem, and all the software but when using QPST It wouldn't recognize the actual phone, i'm not sure if it's due to the fact the phone isn't connect to any service.
Still displays "Activation not completed" on the actual device

If you can get into download mode it is not bricked. You should go to the dev section and find"how to restore a semi bricked epic"and read that...you will also want to use a non stock cable and maybe download and install the drivers again. These are common problems.

I chopped up a cable and made a series of 100k resistors to equal 300...and when i jump pin 4 & 5 it goes to factory mode...that's about all the response i get though...and Ty i will look into the development forum

Say, I'm not sure what you are trying to do with the resistors, but I did check into what you have posted.
You started this thread in the Galaxy S2 (I9100) forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30969680#post30969680
There is a picture of your phone there & you are still in the wrong section.
You have an Epic Touch (D710). If you flash anyhting from here that phone is history!!!!!
Take a look at this forum for the help you need: Samsung Epic 4G Touch
Please do not flash anything from the Epic 4G forum......

this guy is for sure going to flash a rom for another device and brick his phone
dude, if your reading this. please just use stock for a while and read this forum for like....
a month
I hope he flashes the wrong rom and bricks his phone. Stop posting the same question

I hope this is a joke.............................
I hope that OP's time on XDA so far is not indicative of his future here.
Please only start 1 thread about the same thing and that is presumably that you have already searched and there is not another thread out there for the very exact same thing.
The other threads are Gone and this one is Closed. I suggest you read a bit more and do a bit more research.
If somehow got up to enough posts to put this in the Dev section, they would eat you alive. The taste of fire that you got here would be nothing compared and then I would have to come in and do my thing and no one wants that.
