Can I flash a modem zip on an unrooted phone in stock recovery? Or is that something I need a custom recovery to accomplish? Thanks for all the positive answers!

Okay. Thank you. I figured it wouldn't work but before even attempting anything I thought I'd ask to be sure.
I don't think flashing is even possible without rooting. You need a recovery to flash. That's the only way I know at least.

I'm currently trying to flash an ICS rom to my friends epic touch he has the EL29 build on his device.
I was able to get it rooted and I flashed the rouge recovery successfully.
But I keep reading and seeing in videos that it is recommended to only flash ICS via gb recovery while on a particular rom and thats were my confusion starts..
If anyone can clear this cloudiness Id appreciate it..
Any turorial videos or up-to-date guides would be help-ful
This guide(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24028398&postcount=683) didnt help because the first link for the needed file is down, so that was a no-go.
Thanks in advance..
just use one click odin to flash fe22 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=167135
Read this then read it again!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525495
Here is some more good info.

Then just go right into flashing the ICS rom?
If you do the odin one-click FE-22 it will install a stock ICS rom for you.

The one click FE22 will give you stock recovery. If you're going to flash another rom after that you're best bet is el26 but things are changing super fast right now so keep reading through the threads.

I got the little pop up that there was an update so I installed it and it said the phone was going to boot in 6 seconds or whatever, after that the phone booted into CWM and it said it failed install. Now every time I check for an update it says there's no update right now. Am I the only one with this problem? How do I fix it? Is it because I'm rooted? I'm on the stock rom by the way.

Yes, it is because you are rooted. Download the stock rooted DeOdex one done by freeza. Good stuff.

you don't need to flash the modem if you don't want to. Although I think (opinion only, and they vary between user) LG8 is a very good modem right now.
Once you flash modem, you will keep it until you revert or flash a newer modem or a rom specifically tells you it also provides it.

So flash the DeOdex version via CWR.
Then flash the Modem.zip via CWR.
Then use Odin and flash "Other Parts" .tar file and that's it?
Will there be any differentiation between going this route versus unrooting -> OTA update -> re-rooting?
The way I flash I got the legit update and flash with custom recovery and before the reboot flash the team win root file and ur done then reboot and ur done u have the hole update and firmware and radio and rooted and u keep your custom recovery

Flash in recovery
http://goo.im/devs/billard412/d2spr/Sprint_GS3/LI3_firmware(bootloaders).zip
Then reset
The jb firmware has changes made to it to do that that. This will downgrade your bootloaders to stop it
I flash this every time I flash new ROM?
Weird u sure its the li3 firmware Cuz it shouldn't be going up then.
Try these instead http://androidfilehost.com/?fid=9390169635556425848
You'll need odin for them
I'm running the latest JB blaze rom if that helps any

The ROM shouldn't matter its in the boot loaders. The Odin ones should def do it. Theyre lg8 I'm using them now. Says 0 and official and I'm running cm10
So your saying use mobile Odin to flash?

No it won't flash bootloaders. Says as the top inside mobile odin
Is there a thread I can read over for all these bootloaders??

Is there a thread dedicated to them no. Freeza has the posted as AIOs in his thread. But his come with a modem.
The last 5 pages or so of my stock restore and rooted odin tar thread mentions them but this isn't really an heavily discussed issue . Granted Google couldve told u that in less time than it took me to write this.
I'm just trying to gather a little more knowledge bout this "bootloader".. I flashed that zip and everything seem to be fine.. I just wanted to know what does it exactly do?? Sry noon alert! Coming from the epic touch things are little different here lol
Thanks
So just to have peace of mind I did the right thing flashing that zip right? Lol and I can go flashing ROMs without running into any problems? Sry I'm probably being stupid right now

What's the difference in zips?

So I can flash any ROM without having any issues?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
Yes. Those are not Rom dependent. Like i said I'm using lg8 right now with cm10. No issues. Have used them all with different roms and 0 issues to report
Thank you sir! :beer::thumbup::beer::thumbup::beer:
Hello,
I am a newbie here so don't criticize me if this question looks dumb....
Since I want to go with a TouchWiz-based rom, it sounds good for me to switch from CyanogenMod to the Wicked v7. I am wondering if I can use ClockworkMod Recovery to do the flash job.... Does the Wicked require TWRP to flash?
Thanks in advance!
Either works

roo66 is by mrRobinson. Unsure why you should Odin stock first. Please don't say it's because the dev said so.

I would say that it's to prevent issues coming from 4.2 to 4.1.
A lot of people have had to do that anyway after doing the backwards jump. Might as well get it done at once.

No, the one in the middle that ends in .tar.
Flash in Odin in the PDA section. There are also instructions in the OP of the thread.
THis will bring you to stock 4.1.2. Then you can start over from there.
Being on MK4 now is fine.
Doing this at your on risk!! I m just providing the informaiton.
