So I've been hearing that there have been people using unlocked smartphones with the cheap data plan for non-smartphones on AT&T. But I heard that people have been using unlocked phones and international unlocked phones. So what's the difference? If I had just an unlocked Samsung Galaxy S3, would it work with the $10 unlimited data plan for non-smartphones? Has anybody tried this and it worked?
The reason the international smartphones are able to use the non-smartphone plans is that at&t doesn't recognize the phone. AT&T would certainly recognize a phone that was made to work on at&t and that they sell in their stores on their network whether it was unlocked or not.

So if it was an unlocked phone that wasn't originally from At&t it should be ok? What about the SIM card? I heard something about a microSIM card before. Do I have to get one of those?
Actually ATT has been pretty good lately at sniffing out those who try and use dumbphone data on smart phones. You can try but no gaurantee it will work. The Intl GS3 does have better dev and arguably better components but ATT GS3 has LTE.

Yea, but the i9305 is LTE 800 / 1800 / 2600. That's not going to cut it on AT&T.

Is it possible to use the 32gb verizon nexus on other carriers, such as Rogers (this is what I'm on) or AT&T? If it does work on the other carriers, would it work with full 3g support?
I'd really like to get this phone, but the 16gb with no expandable memory is a killer for me since I have more that in just music :/ But I think I'd be alright with 32gb.
No. It is a cdma/lte device and only works on Verizon.

No. You'd need to get the GSM/HSPA+ version, which is available in Canada from Bell or Virgin Mobile. However, you can also get the unlocked version (which will cost $700-800) and use it on any GSM carrier in the world.
Damn...guess I'll have to get something else then bah. It's like every time they make a nexus phone, they have to cripple it one way or another. Meh.

Just buy one unlocked in Canada if/when the 32gb one comes out for GSM.. it's not crippled at all.

If there were plans to bring a 32gb version to Canada, i wouldn't mind waiting....but as there has been no word, and my current phone is dying on me, I'd like to get something new soon :/
Hi,
I basically want to know if there is any difference between these devices, other than network provider lock.
Can you use the ROMs interchangeably?
I think the tmo model does support att's bands and u can probably interchange roms as well like on the tmo s2 and the skyrocket

We don't know for sure yet that the ROMs will be interchangeable. However, given that most T-Mobile phones support the 850/1900 NAM bands (GSM) needed for AT&T HSPA+, as long as the phone is unlocked it should work fine.

The Galaxy S2 did. Reading the specs page on the Tmobile website, I've come to the conclusion that the bands are identical to the AT&T variant's. I'm going to be doing the same thing.
Will hspa+ work? If so, tmo users who will be paying full price would be better off
Buying from att because its less than tmos full price cost.
Plus wireless tethering would work Because tmo doesn't have imei # of att phone.
Can anyone confim?
i would like to know this as well, paying 549 if a lot better than 639.

FYI only T-MO has HSPA +42 version of the S3 for those looking to buy from At&t.
anyone can confirm this?? does the gs3 from tmo works on att HSPA+ and vice versa and if the tmo gs3 works internationally on 3g networks.
All right, unlocked my T999 galaxy s3, put my AT&T micro sim in phone but I get no data. I can make phone calls no problem.Do I have to do anything with the APN settings?
Thank you!!
You need to make an AT&T APN. Also the AT&T version will not get 3G on T-Mobile without at the very least a modem flash.

O.K. just added a couple ATT apn settings still no data.any other suggestions?
By the way i have a 4g micro sim.Thought Tmobile S3 had ATT hspa+ bands.
Got apn settings from these forums.
Might want to do a lot of research before trying to flash an att ROM on tmo or vice versa. I heard the tmo phones are quad core.

did you flash an AT&T radio? you will probably need to do that.
how did you unlock your phone? did you just buy a code or did you try one of the XDA methods?

Until recently I have been with Sprint. And I am located in South Florida.
I am considering going with Simple Mobile as I'm told that T-Mobile has one of the best data speeds in this area. And I want to get a Galaxy S3 as the phone to use with this service.
Can anyone here advise as to whether this would work with Simple Mobile (I called them but they won't say anything only that they don't don't support it - meaning they don't sell it so don't bother them), at what speeds?
I also assume that I must get the T-Mobile version of this phone. That seems quite difficult unless I want to pay a big premium to T-Mobile, who charges much more than say AT&T for their version. So if anyone has any suggestions where I can get one (I would prefer a store, not eBay)?
Thanks
try the xda marketplace
edit: nvm just saw you dont have enough posts.
I read that the Sprint variant of the S3 would work on T-Mobile. You just have to unlock the phone I believe.
Sent from my S3
I remember negri sells the phone for $599 unlocked. That's the cheapest I've seen for the TMobile version. It's not cheaper by much but it's unlocked and you may save on taxes.

Sprint is cdma and T-Mobile is GSM. How are you going to stick a sim card in that sprint phone?

My wife is using it on Simple Mobile. It works great.
Simple Mobile is a Mvno of t-mobile so you don't need to have an unlocked T999. Just change the apn. A's far as speeds. I live in Central Florida and I get the same speeds as t-mobile. I recommended. As far as where to buy the phone. I went to t-mobile and paid $599 for it. Haven't really seen it cheaper.

It does have a sim slot but it's not user accessible.
It's hidden behind the plastic under the battery.
Sprint has taken this approach with all there LTE devices.
The only exception may be the Photon Q since it's touted as being a global device.

Also did she get MMS problem? I saw someone open a thread says he have MMS issue. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1791451)
Hello,
I own a Samsung Galaxy S3 for AT&T. I would like to know if I can somehow use it on Verizon instead. I no longer have my AT&T service so it would be a lot easier if I didn't have to buy a new phone. A quick response would be appreciated.
Thank You,
Austin
You can not use a AT&T phone on Verizon. AT&T uses GSM. Version uses CDMA.

This is correct. The only other major carrier that you can use your phone on is T-Mobile. That said, if you are new to Verizon, chances are that you will be eligible for a subsidized phone. There are a ton of deals out there this holiday season for the GS3. You can get one for $60 on Amazon.

Would it be better to get an international s4 and unlock to use on att or should I get an att s4 instead?

you can get one from att cheaper subsidized but you will be locked in for two. years.. If you use lte you only have a choice to get att version as internation will not work with let..
The International has an octacore while the att will only have a quad because of lte

Not true. Some international markets will receive lte versions. I'm unsure of the processor included with them. It seems Europe is starting to upgrade their networks to lte

Correct. You will have to be knowledgeable of the different model numbers (i95XX,etc) and know which one(s) are lte. I'm not sure of any of these devices hardware spec differences yet. Soon.
