I am a proud owner of my new HTC Desire HD. I have to say it is impressive thus far. I bought it factory direct world unlocked. I know that it is the Android Froyo 2.2 operating system, not sure of the radio. This is my very first android phone as I have switched over from Windows Mobile when I had my HTC Rhodium. The Questions I have are these:
1. If it is world unlocked from the factory to work with any GSM carrier do I have to worry about unlocking it to add new roms?
2. This phone is not available in the US as they do not support the towers, but it will still work on the 2G/EDGE mode. Is there a radio upgrade to make it work?
3. I know that Android 2.3 and 3.0 have come out, is there a factory version of either of these available here or anywhere for the DHD?
4. What is the best course of action I can take to get the most out of my new android phone?
Thank you for all of your help, this site has been so great to me in the past!
Hello,
Way over my head again, just a question:
Is there an official update for my CDMA HTC Desire? I am using it with Open Mobile in Puerto Rico. 2.05.10.08.11 is the baseband, 2.1 update1. It does not want to update anything, says it's all updated.
I saw a thread with a US Cellular (CDMA) RUU but I'm not certain my phone will work with Open Mobile if I flash a ROM designed for a different carrier.
47 reads, no replies?
I've spent some time looking on the forums... I wouldn't have posted if I found what I was looking for.
Anyway I'm putting Alpharev on a CD - since I couldn't make a bootable USB with it.
I made a custom CDMA 2.2 ROM, it's somewhere in ROM Development
Can I flash a rom that is made for a T-Mobile Wildfire S onto my Virgin Mobile Wildfire S without problems? Or is the fact that the Virgin Mobile Wildfire S is CDMA and T-Mobile is GSM gonna brick my phone or make it not function correctly? Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks! Has anyone with a Virgin Mobile Wildfire S tried flashing any of these roms?
I am interested in this one mainly.

This is not the place for asking read rules. Questions should be in General.
EDIT: For your question ROM is for GSM only and some reported it working on CDMA but wifi, sensors, etc. not working, also you might get your answer unless you flash it.
I have an HTC Desire from US Cellular. When I got the phone, it had 2.1, which I later updated to 2.2. Recently the 2.3 was released on htc's developer site, which I have downloaded, but am having troubles installing. It seems to be running fine, it resets my phone and begins the update. However, it sits on updating signature for a while then tells me "ERROR [130]: MODEL ID ERROR The ROM Update Utility cannot update your Android phone. Please get the correct ROM Update Utility and try again." Is this because I have the US Cellular model, or is there a way around this? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Please post information from your hboot.
US cellular is a cdma carrier.
SwiftKeyed from my HTC Desire using XDA App.
The 2.3 update is for GSM phones. Us Cellular is CDMA. No 2.3 for US Cellular.
If you are rooted you could try Cool Droid 1.0 from Coolexe. Cdma version is available also (if that is what you're looking for).
Sense UI is version 1.9 as in Desire GSM official rom.

i jus need to know how to run the script gsm to cdma whatever that is
You cannot turn a Desire CDMA into a Desire GSM. No matter what script you use.
Please ask in CoolDroid thread so cdma users could help you (I'm GSM user).
And please ignore message from Matt. Rom is for both GSM and CDMA machines.

That does not make sense. I wrote absolutely nothing about the rom itself. I was only talking about hardware (GSM / CDMA).

As it said by HTC on Facebook...
"Please note that the following regional variants are not compatible with this upgrade: Germany (Telekom Deutschland), North America, South Korea and Japan."
As I remember, the USA is in North America)
So, there is your answer))

I've been thinking of installing a new ROM on my Wildfire S, and I noticed that most posts about ROMs refer to the A510e. Now, I'm wondering if there are any significant hardware differences between the A510a and the A510e that would prevent me from installing the ROMs, in general. By the way, I'm on Virgin Mobile Canada, and it's a GSM phone. Thank you, and I apologize if this question has already been asked.
i think 510a is america version and 510e is europe
difference is just network frequences
you can try roms but i recommend make a nandoid backup first
sorry for bad english
The only difference is the Radio Frequencies that are present...............I think Virgin Mobile Canada works on a frequency that is not available in the International version of the wildfire s...............There shouldnt be much(or any) problems while flashing any rom as long as it is for the GSM variant
