SMS Wake up - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

When I receive a SMS, the phone wakes up.
Having a hard time finding the setting to turn it off...any insight?

bump for this - I don't see why the screen needs to come on every time a sms message comes in. I haven't seen this happen with email(exchange), gmail, GTalk, etc... so annoying to waste battery for no reason with the LED indicator enabled.
I've looked and looked and don't really see anyone complaining about this, which I find really strange.

bump - seriously no one cares about this wasting battery for no reason?

No one has found an answer? Just got the AT&T version and I do about 20,000 texts a month, so this is very annoying and wastes battery, ESPECIALLY since it has a notification LED.

I got so tired of it, that I just switched over to handcent.

Just called Samsung and he searched and put me on hold for a while and came back saying there is no way to change this. He recommended downloading a 3rd party texting app or seeing if there is an app that will do this :/

here is a fix from the Sprint GS3
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1840420

Just tried to flash, didn't see any changes in the Messages settings. Not the screen toggle or mms server issue

It was annoying me as well, the only fix I found without switching to another app is to go to Settings in the messaging app and make sure everything is unchecked under Notifications. If you do this, you will no longer see new text messages in the notification bar, but if you want you can use Nova launcher premium that has an add on called Tesla unread plug in (it adds a number to a messaging shortcut when new sms arrives).
Hope this helps.

Evo texting random garbage instead of alarm going off

My alarms are already spotty at best. I've caught them going off for 1 or 2 seconds and then silencing themselves. This morning I did not hear my alarm go off at all and instead woke up to some very strange text messages I had just sent.
I left Google Voice open last night as I was texting someone and the text window was open. Instead of my alarm going off, a bunch of random garbled text started getting sent out. I don't know if it was the vibration (I never heard the vibration but I could have slept through it) causing buttons to accidentally be hit or if it was some weird redirection of alarm "go off" commands being redirected to the nearest text area.
Has anyone ever experienced anything like this? I notice similar random text messages sometimes waiting as drafts for me after backing up and restoring text messages.
That sucks! Are you running a custom ROM? if so would you by chance be using a 'Vanilla' Lock Screen?

I'm 100% stock unrooted fully updated.
wow, I have absolutely no idea! sorry! I would think it would have to be an app doing that. Can you recreate the issue? if you can, post it and I will try to do it on my phone.
Have you tried using a diffrent alarm app one from the market

I had the same issues with Handcent when I first got my Inc, and couldn't figure out why, and never did. I switched to chompSMS, and haven't had an issue since. I would love to know why it did that as well...
I have handcent frozen using titanium and still get the second notification... I only don't get it if I freeze the messages app but then I lose mms

I really like Hancent but this notification thing is killing it for me...
Default Messaging app has notifications, auto retreive disabled
Restarted
Wipped phone
I don't get 2 messages, just hear the ring tone two times.
If I disable notifications I only hear one, but then it still vibrates for 3 seconds and I have disabled all vibration.
No other notification vibrates. I swear some of these settings are in here as a tease.
I really love hancent but this may push me to an new app... I can't have this phone vibrating across the table during my meetings.
If you think you can help you can respond here or message me on aim...
Aim name is "Drachnem"

Facebook notifications?

OK for the first time since I had this phone which is almost a year I installed sprint lovers which I usually use onto my replacement phone and actually got notifications like wall posts and pictures to pop up in my notification panel on my phone and they would be instantly pushed as soon as they happened. Usually the only notification that did show up in my notofication panel were messages events and friend requests but never actual notifications like wall posts and tags from facebook and I'd get them at the refresh intervals set on facebook app. Well I installed cm7 and it wont do that anymore I can't get the instantly pushed notifications. I know there is away somehow since I finally managed to get it on sprint lovers but I have no clue how I did it. So any help

Open Facebook app, hit menu, then setting, then notification. Change the sound from silent and put check marks in some boxes

thats not going to do it. the boxes are for messages friends and events. None for wall posts photos tags ACTUAL notifications. and adding a sound doesnt make them pop up in my notification panel
Well push notifications finally started suddenly working for me on CM7. I can't tell you why it works now but for what it's worth I have refresh set to never, notifications active with notification ringtone set to silent. My contacts are also synced. If those settings don't work adjust your settings in your facebook account perhaps.
Guess it happend to you too what version are you running maybe it's the version that works

Try going menu>settings>apps and find Facebook. Click it and clear data/cache. Reboot your phone and see if that helps. It ussualy fixes things in a lot of apps for me. And if that doesn't work and your rooted go into rom manager and fix permissions. Reboot after that and hopefully it will work for you. Hope this helps

did you restore it from titanium or did you just re download it from the market. because i have noticed when switching between roms types (which for me is like every 3 days or less haha) such as sense to aosp or 2.2 to 2.3 etc some apps have some left over data from previous installations (if using titanium) and it messes with other roms. like when i switched from cm7 (aosp) to myn's warm twopointtwo (2.2 sense) 2 days ago about a good half of the apps i restored didn't work.
nope i always download it from the market
Flow is good for push notifications, you have to set it up through your email account. I've never had the stock Facebook app work right. If I actually used Facebook more than once a month I might care.
I think the name of Flow just changed to Friend Caster or something, if you're interested in looking it up.

Somehow it pushes notifications again didn't do anything. So maybe they finally worked out push notification because since day one of the evo release it didn't work and now this is the second time in 2 weeks it works

[Q] Enabling repeated alerts for notifications?

I want my phone to vibrate or make a noise every couple of minutes if I have a new notification. I'm not always able to hear / feel it the first time and the only vibration setting I can seem to find is only two quick pulses.
I also noticed that the green status light doesn't flash if I get a text message, where if I have an email to my gmail account it does. Is there any way to change this?
I feel like I have to check my phone all the time without these.
Have a look at Tasker. I use it to watch for certain notifications and then play a sound or do something else to get my attention, without me having to look at the phone all the time. Telling it to wait for x time before the next action is also possible (and a whole lot more).

probably it will works
That's frustrating... Since tasker is about $7 I have to buy an app to provide functionality that my previous basic cheap phone had. I also found that there used to be a nice free app called 'MissedCall' that you could do it with, however it's no longer on the market. GRRR

There's a 'missed call deluxe' for $1
Or there's Missed Reminder which is free.
I think that's exactly what I'm looking for! Sweet thanks!
My recommendation is Light Flow - There is a free version in Market, perfect customization possible: set different LED Colors for Calls, SMS, Mail, Low Battery etc, set different repeating sounds, vibrations...

How do you turn off the annoying constant notification noise?

The notification noise (for texts, and I don't know if it's for anything else) just runs forever and ever until I actually open handcent or the stock messaging app. I've looked through settings and don't see anything that clearly says it'll turn that off. How do you do that?
All my notifications only ring once. Is it handcent? Are you on a certain rom?

it only happens to texts. it happened before and after I installed handcent. it's annoying and weird
In your text app Go to Settings> Message Alert Repetition where you can adjust how often it will notify you.
Something Experimental...

I already turned off notifications in the stock texting app so it was like I don't have it installed without actually uninstalling it. I'll see if it's one of those things that magically goes away on its own after a while.
Did you try looking at the settings in Handscent for the same type of setting?
Something Experimental...
Yeah :/
Yep, your not alone. I have the same issue when using GoSMSPro. As best as I can tell this is an issue when you use a Third Party SMS app. FYI: I am on a custom ROM and have the issue. If I uninstall Go SMSPro the issue disappears.
