Jelly Bean AOSP Email - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

Thanks to shiftr182 for sharing the flashable file. I followed his instruction and was able to get AOSP email back on my TW rom.
** I'm only distributing the work that has been done by others **
1. Use a file manager and delete SecEmail.apk and SecExchange.apk from your system [System >> App]
(I use Titanium Backup and made a copy of those two files)
2. Flash the attachment. (I made a nandroid backup just in case)
3. After you reboot, go to you apk manager and clear the data on email and exchange then add your account(s).

Been looking for this apk. Muchas gracias!
Proper job, innum bey.

Sorry for bumping an old thread but I had got the email to work using another method from another thread (install app in system>app with root explorer, I also found another way to do it on another thread that I found before I found this one .... after all was done my email unread number said 22 all the time and never changed. I tried everything and nothing fix it.
Found another thread, started fresh, (renamed original email/exchange apts with .bak instead of deleting it) same problem here.... unread count but this time is says 19. Mind you it shows 19 unread emails on the email app icon in the app drawer and when I drag it to the home screen and I did not even set up my emails yet so it would have no way of knowing how many unread emails I have. very odd.
Finally started fresh and flash the zip from this thread which worked now it says 33 unread emails all the time. Can't figure out why this unread email count shows up even without any unread emails.
Anyone have any idea how to fix this?
Thanks.

Works Great on 4.4.3
Awesome! I've been unable to get corporate email to sync since I got off of a stock ICS ROM. I was still having problems with the latest 4.4.3 ROMs. This solved it. Thanks!

Re-installing an ADB removed System App

I already Searched, MY ANSWER is not there.
I'm running Caulkin's 1.4, I removed sense (via his .zip).
After everything was up and running I opened ADB and removed a couple applications I didn't want, such as friendstream and rss.
One of the items removed was Mail.apk because I have always used K9 mail instead. I remove the same list of apps every time I install a Rom, never had a problem.
that is until today. For personal reasons I need to use the stock mail app instead of K9, however I cannot figure out, or find a way here to make it install.
If I copy the system apk... Mail.apk to my sd card and try to install, it gives me final message "Could not be installed".
Can anyone help me with some guidance of how I can do this? Or is it possible?
Disregard, Got it!

apk mail of Samsung Tab

is it possible to install the apk mail of samsung tab the Archos 10.1 or 7.0
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=838078
As per the "other forums", it isnt possible since it directly replaces the existing mail, hence needing a perm root.
This would be sweet.

too bad :-(
Surely someone could recompile the app with a different name exactly as they did with the recent gingerbread apk which can be installed without root.
Any takers?!
with the root perhaps ?
I tried replacing my email.apk with the samsung one(i have rooted sde), and all it does is force close as soon as I try to launch it. Must need some samsung libraries or something.
That is too bad.
I feel that the onlyu missing good app on the A101 is in fact the email client.
I would love o use the tablet for work, but the stock email client is very bad, and all the others i have tried are also very bad for a daily use. The app that best fits in the Touchdown email client, but it is so badly designed.
I would love to have one email client with full features of exchange, that would feel as clean as the samsung email client or even the iPad email client.
If someone finds one like this, please let me know ...
Have managed to get this working on my Archos 101IT, running sauron's Urukdroid 4.1 root. I followed the instructions given by LOstSOul over at the ArchosFans forum:
If you want to give it a try you must move the existing /system/app/Email.apk to /system/app.old (or delete it)
Then download this zip file:
http://downloads.streakdroid.com/djsteve/tabmail.zip
Note: I did not build this at all and take no credit for building it. I found this package here:
http://android.modaco.com/content/dell- ... nt-beta-2/
you must extract the zip file on your PC and then copy the 3 files in the extracted system\app directory into your \system\app directory on your archos vi ADB with Root or get it on the SD card and then move it using a terminal program. Once you have the three files in the /system/app directory just reboot and you will have the new email client.
It will use any existing email accounts that you have from the old email app but they may have some strange issues. If you notice anything weird remove the account and re-add it.

Didn't see this posted here on XDA yet, so apologies if it has been already.
As stated above, these instructions originated elsewhere, and I am in no way taking any credit for this.
However, as you can see from the screenshot attached, doesn't quite work as well on the 101 - app was coded for 7" screen after all!
Another good reason to root the device... gonna spend this weekend on this. Thks for the news

[Q] Mail apk with HTML

Hi all, I use RCMixS v2.0 and I really love this rom.
For now I have only a problem: the e-mail application doesn't display html emails corretly... it shows only the text.
I have looked also into the settings but there is no voice about that.
Can anyone give me a modified version of that Sense apk in order to see correctly html emails? (always if there is one apk that does that, obviously)
Thank you in advance,
Sbarabau
p.s: please don't tell me to change rom, because the RCMixS is perfect for me.
EDIT: i forgot: my email account is an hotmail synchronized through exchange activesync
No one can help me?
Other client
Why don't you use another email client? Have you tried to increase the mail size limit?

Thank you for your reply!
I dont' want to change email client because I fell good with the Sense interface.
I've already tried to increase the email's size limit, but no change... The option for select the HTML format is grey and unclickable.
I've also tried with this guide ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342174 ), but when I turn back the value to 2.5, it all return as it was initially...
P.s: sorry for my bad english

Now I'm using a CM7 ROM so have no chance to try it but here is what I found:
- Make sure you have not selected "download text" only under the sync settings.
- Select HTML format on your email server. I think hotmail have this kind of setting.
Somewhere I read you have to select an individual account for setting HTML format.

Hehe, where can I find that option? I'm searching but I can't find it xD
p.s: thanks again for your help
No one? Impossible xD xD
Up...

Same problem here ! Any help ?
I found the solution to this probleme !!!
You need Root and Root Explorer
I downloaded the mail.apk from one ROM (my memory is bad i don't remember) and I copied that mail.apk in \system\app and tried to install it from there. It started the installation but aborted cause I suppose the mail app is in use.
The trick is that after that aborted installation, the option to select Html or Text is now available and I could change it to Html...
Now everything is ok.
Is that the HTC Sense Mail.apk?
And the older Mail.apk? Have you replaced it in /system/app?
First, the mail.apk is not related to Sense but to the Android version, mine is 2.3.4
And Second, I replaced that one in \system\app
I tried to install it from there but it didn't work. In fact, it enabled the option HTML/TEXT !!!
I have RCMixS with Android 2.3.3
Anyway, that's a system apk, so you have to put into the system/app folder using adb
Third: if you replace the older Mail.apk in system/app, the older e-mail application obviously disappears.
P.S: with your method I lose my email app and the new one doesn't install. With adb, the app goes in crash when I open it.
I'm sorry to hear that you lost your older mail.apk.
As stated in my previous reply, You need Root Explorer and when you replace mail.apk, and try to install it from system\app it doesn't install but the option HTML is available right after.
And I told that it's related to 2.3.4 !!! and you have 2.3.3 so I am not sure if it will work with a different version (now i'm a bit sure)...
You should not use adb. And you have to find out a mail.apk from a 2.3.3 version to restore your email application.
Good luck.

I know I would have lost my email application, so I made a backup of the app.
Anyway, your argument does not stand: if I put a new Mail.apk in system/app and I replace the older, I will obviously lose my older email app!
P.S.: it isn't related to 2.3.4. What Sense version do you have?
P.S.2: for system apps you have to use adb. If you don't use it, the app will never install...
The solution for me is that I replaced mine by another mail.apk from another rom (without adb) and the html option was back and fixed.
I don't have time to polemicate about it.

I don't want to polemicate, I only want to know how to do that in order to make it work!
I asked you: What Sense version do you have?
Hello,
I just upgraded from Android Revolution 3.6.8 to 3.6.13 without wiping my stuff.
The problem of HTML mails from ActiveSync with my hotmail went back to TXT and the option is grayed.
So, I just copied the mail.apk (attached to my previous post) to system\app with ES explorer on phone (overwriting the one existing there) and tried to install the apk from system\app and yes it doesn't complete the installation but the icon disappeared from menu and main screen. So, I rebooted my phone. After that my email icon came back and when I go to option, I can now select HTML or TEXT.
My Sense is 3.0, Android 2.3.4 and Android Revolution 3.6.13 with 1.72Ghz CPU.
My method is working and I confirm I did it twice !

Sense 3.0 is different than Sense 2.1. For this reason the apk email didn't worked for me. It would be perfect to find a ported version for Sense 2.1 of that apk
P.s.: thanks again for the help you're giving to me

Community Challenge: help me install AOSP Email / Exchange apks in GT-I9300

I got myself into a situation I can't undo.
I wanted to try out the AOSP Email app because I'm tired of the stock app that comes with my Telcel-branded SIII.
I followed instructions;
Fully rooted 4.0.4
Delete Email.apk
Delete Exchange.apk
Copied AOSP files to systen/app
Change permissions to rw - r - r to email.apk
Reboot.
So far; the exchange accounts I had exploded. The phone freezes every few seconds and I get a pop up that tells me that either Exchange or Email has stopped working.
Tried to roll back. I can't. I had backed up both apks, but putting them back still freeze the phone every few seconds.
Decided the easiest solution would be to wipe to factory settings.
Even with factory settings the email + exchange don't work. Adding a corporate account force closes the email app.
At least the phone isn't freezing every 2 seconds.
So now I have a phone that has no email functions. I can add k9 mail or other apps, but I really want the AOSP Email app working.
After full factory wipe, I tried again.
I've deleted both files.
I've installed Exchange.apk
I've installed Email.apk
In both cases the dialog window says they were correctly installed, but an email icon will not appear in my app drawer.
With ES File Manager, I can see that even if OS thinks the apps were properly installed, neither apk appear in the system/app directory.
Sorry for the wall of text, but I wanted to give as much detail as possible.
What can I do? Do I need to flash stock ROM and give up? Has someone been in a similar situation?
Thanks!

[SMT310] not downloading attachments through android email app. 4.4.2 kitkat

Os is rooted stock build with sd write enabled. It's my mom's tablet she only uses it for basic surfing and email with family and it's been running ship shape for about 2 years now. I only rooted it to regain sd access and xposed it to kill ads on youtube and apps but just recently the stock android email app has started refusing to download attachments namely (and I haven't tried with pdfs or audio files) pictures. It shows the picture size in kilobytes and I hit preview in the email app, it does its thing with the downloading progress bar and proceeds to show me the attached image below. It also shows this within gallery. I have since moved over her address to the Gmail app and it works fine downloading attachments and saving them to the gallery correctly.
So what gives? Like I said it is rooted but the only things I've done are what I said and she hasn't done anything. I tried removing and re adding her account and quintripple checked the sync settings and download attachments setting with no success. Any ideas on what the issue is? I'm hoping to avoid a reflash but if I have to I will twrp it and get a nandroid back up of everything just in case and proceed to only restore user data afterwards once a reflash is successful. But I want to avoid that. I've also cleared data on the email app only to have to re add her email account with no success in downloading attachment like it used to before. And btw it's been rooted all this time nothing has changed other than her email app suddenly doing this when it was fine a week or 2 ago
