ive tryed everything. android system is always higher than screen no matter what i flash, ics or jb. this is just getting annoying how it drops 1% every 2 minutes, when using it with data. i really like this phone but this is just killing it for me. i attached some pics of the battery and the kernel wakes. any help would be great.

WOW, that is crazy. I can only suggest Wicked V7 updated to the latest official ICS. Do a full wipe of everything and install. I have been running for 2 days and have great battery.

There is an app in the playstore I think it is called cpuspy that tells you what rogue app is running in the back ground. You can also try the process of elimination.

Nope cpu spy shows how much time the phone is in different mhz.. like if you turn off your screen it will go into deepsleep and when you open the app it indicates how much time the phone has spent into deep sleep...
And OP maybe its a bad battery if you have tried ics roms and jb ?

Well, what do you guys think of this? I'm new to the S3 not familiar with the ROMS. What's the best ROM out there for us with good battery life and performance?
I really like the CodenameAndroid and ParanoidAndroid roms in combination with Ktoonz kernel, I get around 2 days of battery with moderate usage and over 6 hours screen time, which IMO is great for the US S3

holy sh*t the android system is raping your battery, well I love wicked roms(ICS) awesome battery and super smooth. You can also check out FrostyICS and FrostyJB those are also really good ROM's. I personally like ICS ROM's as they are more stable and don't have minor issues that some the JB ROM's have.
Check out post #3112 and #3113 in the WickedV7 thread and check out the battery life pic people posted on that ROM.
GO to the Play store and download no-frills CPU control or set cpu and check and see what you Min and max is for your CPU.
I have an extended battery and after 4 hours i was at 65 or 70% which is way off!!! I check this and it showed that my min and max was at 1024 once I changed the min to 384 everything got better

When it comes to battery life, there are many thing that you can do to improve it.
First off, turn autobrightness off, and try and keep the brightness slider as low as comfortably possible.
Dark, if not completely black background are not only sick looking, but they help with your battery life.
Less widgets, especially ones that require frequent updates...like weather widgets, and facebook widgets will wake
your system up to update. I suggest removing most, if not all of your widgets from your home screens.
Download an app like setcpu, nstools, or voltage control to set your min and max frequencies. In setcpu, make some profiles for screen off to
make sure your system isn't throttling up while your phone is not in use.
Change your governor and i/o schedulers. With a high end device like this, you can comfortably sit on conservative governor without experiencing bad lag...i/o schedulars wont effect battery life too too much but simple ones are best (like sio).
Run v6 super charger, kickass kernalizer, and 3 script to improve the way your device runs, and battery life. Stick to wifi when possible. Having low signal will cause your phone to constantly look for a better signal which will prevent it from deep sleeping.

It shuts down one of your cores when the phone isn't in use.
Also DL CPUspy. This will show you exactly how often your phone is using certain frequencies, and whether or not it's going into deep sleep.
It looks from your screenshot however that your standby battery is not the problem, it seems to shoot down when in use (at least I'm assuming that was from when you were using the device).
Click on "System" and take a screenshot so we can see what's going on

Error is the first thing listed. Have you tested the battery by doing a full reset and flash, then not installing any apps? If this is happening across roms and builds its most likely one of your apps not playing well with the system.
Before your next flash, go into dev options and turn on Show CPU Usage. Then let us know what processes seem to stay at the top all the time.
Also get cpu spy from the market and after letting it collect its data for a while (especially when not using the phone) check it to make sure its going into deep sleep.
After those two, do your clean flash and run without installing any apps for a while. Then when you do install them, do not restore from a backup. Download them fresh from the market. Also do not restore any backed up data, at least at first.
When you do flash your system, download the full firmware to your computer (use root66 if you want to keep root). From recovery choose format data, this will wipe your internal sdcard, btw.
Now boot into download mode and using Odin, flash the firmware you just downloaded.
Once done charge back to 100% and see how it goes.

As long as you follow instructions, and make sure you have the correct fw for your model, Odin is actually quite easy to use.
Restoring apps and especially data can cause all kinds of issues when jumping between different builds and especially android versions. The updated apos and system often have different database structures, different data files, and even different storage locations sometimes.
I'm betting this is where the problem will be.
I understand not wanting to go through all that I mentioned, but if you want to know where the problem originates, you have to start removing variables to narrow it down.
If you don't care what's causing it, jump to the flash. Nandroid backup, wipe everything, odin flash, test. If all is well, restore the data part of nandroid. If problems start again then you know its either your apps or data causing the problem.

I'm using the setcpu app and whenever I apply a "when screen off" profile and put my phone to sleep it won't turn back on. I set it to 200-400mhz and it doesn't turn back on and I think the govenor is conservative.
I am running randomrom pheonix with genocide 2.0 kernel.
Can anyone tell me what they have their profile set as or what is a good low value I can set my phone to so that it still runs but doesn't waste too much battery life while its off. Any kind of help is appreciated.

Don't use profiles
I wish I could be of more assistance, but basically, I remember many of the more experienced forum members here suggesting that you do *not* use profiles with SetCPU on the Epic 4G.
I am running the Genocide 2.0 kernel on my Epic with SetCPU set to a max of 1120 and min of 100 MHz, with no profiles set and the governor set to conservative. Haven't had any issues.
Also, I use a widget called Temp+CPU PRO that dynamically shows you the clock speed of the CPU, so you can tell when it's at 100 MHz and so forth.
From what I've seen, the speed of the CPU ramps down to 100 MHz on its own when the phone is idle.
Oh.. well I have never seen that.. I heard ppl talking about setcpu is better than voltage control so I thought it was cuz of the profiles.
So about how many hours do u get out of ur phone? What rom r u using with that kernel?

I get an average of about 11 hours on a single charge. Mainly because I'm a Facebook addict

Lol well I use internet a lot for downloading stuff and I txt all day long get a few phone calls and I average a couple hours.. yesterday I played a game and downloaded some music talked a lil and txt the whole time and it lasted from 10 30am until like 1pm and I had 8%. I don't understand how ppl can say they get over 20 hours.
Sometimes I can make it last 12 hours but that's when I just txt and don't do nothing else.

There are a lot of good posts on here about maximizing your battery life. Most of it requires some functionality to be sacrificed, so it's all about your personal preferences.
Our AMOLED screens are purty, so even though I keep mine dim to save battery, once in a while, say when watching a movie on the phone, I'll crank up the brightness all the way to make the visuals pop. Do a few searches, read up, and then tweak, tweak, and tweak some more until you find that "sweet spot" that works for you.
Of course, hooking yourself up with one of those monster 3500 mAh batteries wouldn't hurt, either. Just sayin'

I know I read a lot and I do like everything they say but don't get the same result as they say and I use screen filter so my brightness is alwas reallly low
And idk how to use tweaks really well I found this battery tweak thing and I believe all it really does it change the mhz the phone runs on but I could b wrong
And I used supercharge v6but idk if it works I don't notice any changes.
So now I just changed to eh17 modem and removed all apps I don't use and only have a few. I froze the thingsi know waste battery and I don't have nothing thatuses the battery I think.. so is there any tweaks u know r good?

I have titanium backup pro and I froze the sns, system updates, drm content, and even the google maps app and I only defrost that app when I use it.
I have set cpu set on 200-1120 mhz. And I have juice defender and its set to "extreme". I don't keep any date connection on when I'm not using it. I'm not sure what else there is to do but I'm sure I've done some more things...

I wouldn't use the screen off profiles. You only would need them if your trying to have your phone never go into deep sleep for some reason. Not to say the settings would cause this, but your phone should hit deep sleep after 10 or so seconds of screen off making this setting quite useless. Also if your running genocide you need to be using on demand! You can set the throttle up % in the advanced tab of setcpu. If you wanna utilize profiles what I do is set it to throttle down the cpu as my battery dies. Saing juice for those crucial lower percentages.

I'm saying don't bother with the screen off profile, first of all. Secondly don't run conservative with genocide! Its geared for ondemand (unless your trying to save your battery by not overclocking at all) and ondemand is configured by going into the advanced tab and configuring the usage percantage of your cpu to switch to the next highest frequency at a certain percentage. I use 98% and I get pretty darn good battery life. I don't know if it helps or not, but I also set powersave bias on 25. Just post if I'm still confusing you.

I flashed this battery tweak and I went to check it right not the up threshold is set to 95 I guess the tweak changed it cuz I remember checking it before and everything said -1. But thanks I get it. So if I had my phone set to 200-1200mhz and ondemand and when I have a high battery level I higher the thrshold and as I lost battery I lower it...?

When I first got my phone I looked up some info on rooting. It seemed at the time that Wifi wouldn't work properly. I have spotty 3g coverage so I need Wifi to work properly.
Are there currently any issues to rooting and/or installing custom roms on the ET4G?
Been rooted since I bought it. No issues. Everything works beautifully. Currently running Cauklin's 2.01 EK02 based ROM and loving it.
Once you have been immersed in the "root & overclock" you will find that it provides more gain than headache. I have problems everytime I try something new untilled I learn some quirks and how to overcome the new problem. If you do root & oc first and foremost create a Complete Backup of all the stock data from your phone onto a computer that is untampered with so if all else fails you can flash back to right after gaining root. In which case you can UnRoot your phone and then perform a factory flash.
Just a few things that make it worthwhile...
BATT LIFE went from one day with my normal usage of web, calls, games,extra... I had to topoff in the car midday. Rooted, I use an app that has a "NITROUS" setting which when I hit the lil button my phone clock ramps up to the Max... but for doing my regular activities I actuly have my phone down clocked alot and do not see any performance issues with anything.
Also when my phone is in my pocket it downclocks even further for standby. 1200 is stock.
1600-max overclock for dl
(I do not use 1200 i have mine set on 800)
800-daily activities
200-screenoff
( I Max it out for streaming movies or dl of big files)
Not to mention all of the customization for you with roms and being able to remove stock apps ect...
Here is a good starting point.... root phone create a backup... flash a new kernel that allows over and underclocking set up a screen on off profile with oc app. Remove any stock apps you don't want and see from a "stock os" with the phone if you notice a difference. If you don't unroot and rock it stock.
Staying active in forums and never try a rom or kernel that is labled beta.

How do I overclock my phone. I am running the caukulin 2.0.1 rom with the rogue kernel. i tried everything but the max i can go is 1.2ghz which is stock i want to go to 1.6ghz what am i not doing.
Downside to rooting phone....being addicted to said rooted phone.

I personally like rooting and messing with my phone, it's fun.
My wife hates it because she doesn't care about custom this and that.
Root = fun
Unroot = your phone as intended
Are you a phone junky, then root for sure with caution.
Are you not, then stick with stock, your phone horse power has enough to keep you going.
Note: For me, everything working great. I've had some problem but nothing I couldn't fix within a day here on XDA Forum. Btw, I'm a noob compared to most here on xda.

Google anything be it Maps, Navigation, Books, gmail, Latitude, ect ...
Sprint TV, Radio, ect...
Calander
YouTube
Voice anything
Most all of the apps I just use the internet and save my webpages...
Yahoo mail, Gmail, Facebook, ect...
So with a Stock Phone what ill do is root, create my "Stock Backup" and save that zip on my phone AND my PC. Then al of the ROMs I am untreated in I will load to my PC and push the zip to my phone one at a time. Try them out to find the one I like the most. Once I find a winner I will add back the things I do use the most if the rom doesn't have them alrdy.
To me my camera is a good check of a rom... most of the time if the camera works fine then the rest usually is good. After camera I try to send a pic via text msg. Both working then I explore the rom for any other instabilities I might have read about in the post of said rom.
In theroy the more free space on a phone means it will run processes faster in theroy.

I've been rooted for some time. Some kernels do have big LoS issues with this phone. My current combo is working VERY well, though. LoStKernelExp+ & viperROM. Fast and dependable.

I wanted to investigate the sporadic freezing in my Galaxy S2. So, I turned on, show CPU usage under the developer's options in ICS. For reference I'm currently running Jedi Knight's latest rom.
I have attached a picture of my cpu usage while at my home screen. The number I've read to be average loads, and anything over 1.00 means trouble. I'm consistently over 10 for my one, five, and fifteen minutes averages. Also, my red bar which apparently measures time in kernel, sometimes spikes and correlates with a brief moment of unresponsiveness.
I've only seen two other screenshots and both users were under two. I was curious what everyone else's loads were. Also, let me know how frequent you have brief freezes, what kind of background apps you usually run. Include info like how many activities do you allow to run in background, do you force gpu rendering, etc. I can't wait to see other's results.

I got like 9/10/11 on mine. I always suspected that I have unusually bad battery life no matter what ROM I'm on, now I wonder if this has anything to do with it...
I'm on Eugene's Plain Jane ROM, which is an AOSP ICS ROM. The Manage Apps menu shows about 10 processes running. Force GPU is on.

Thanks, for the response. Do you ever experience temporary freezes? My goal is to figure out if my mini-freezes are caused my memory or CPU.
Sorry for the bad picture quality. I posted through the android app. Anyway, I've left my phone alone for 15 minutes, and I got 8.7/8.7/8.7. I wonder if this uses a different scale than the Unix scale.

Well, I wouldn't call them freezes, but sometimes performance seem to degrade for a fraction of a second and I experience like a small stutter. Doesn't seem to be unusual, but I'm not sure...

That's normal. The only roms I know that work 100% smooth are Jelly Bean Roms on OFFICIALLY supported devices like the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus. (Yes the Nexus S runs smoother than this phone. Not faster, smoother) but what OP is stating isn't normal in the least bit. My advice? Ditch that rom. I've never experienced such high CPU activity on any rom and its bad news. Your phone will eventually overheat and shut down. Never a good thing when the SoC gets no form of cooling.

So what do you do when CPU activity is still showing well over 1.0 (5-9) even after installing a fresh ROM? I just flashed the latest official CM10 nightly and have not installed anything other then gapps, and cpu usage is showing 9/8/5.

Whoa.. if changing software doesn't help then you for yourself a hardware issue. If you experience lag and heat issues no matter what call tmo and get that handset replace.

That's the thing. I don't experience any lag and the phone is perfectly cool. It gets hot on intensive use, though.

I experience the exact same thing as ToastMan. My device always runs cool except when have multiple, heavy-use apps open for an extended period of time. My cpu usage percentages and used memory is always reasonable. Could it be something like an incompatible kernel? What are some debugging steps we could take? What kind of information would be valuable to you that we could provide?

Is there a chance that maybe the reading is just wrong? Or maybe normal values on Android are different?
If several other people could just check their results and post them here it will be very helpful.

I was also thinking that it could be calibrated differently somehow. Like, if it was off by a factor of ten. My values would be much more reasonable. But I have seem several screenshots in the 1.0 range.

Min has always been in the area of 9/9/10ish. My screen has never stuttered not even on GB, no rrs or sods on official cm10 so far either. My battery life is an entire day (16hrs) of listening to music/playing emulators nonstop.
Make sure you have the 2 idle processes in your battery. If you don't then your phone doesn't idle which will kill your battery life.
If you are using cwm non-touch make sure you use dark side tools or upgrade to touch recovery (cwm 6.x.x.x or TWRP... my favorite). Reinstall your ROM with a complete wipe, install gapps, boot it up then wait 10 mins before doing any setup.
If you are idling then look at your batt stats again... screen is probably waaaay up there... play with your brightness settings.

Cell standby, phone idle. They should be higher but I had my screen on several hours more than normal today (hence screen being 55%). Top reads 18 hours on, 21% battery life remaining.

Alright so I am using KT747 Kernel with Ktoonservative/Noop, 1512-384mhz, screen off 486mhz. I was given an option to Lock frequencies which disallows apps to modify the speed. However I noticed after I checked this some of my apps started crashing. I want good battery life (forget to mention I undervolted) and want to know if locking frequencies is what is making the apps crash. Any help would be great, and feel free to post some good settings for the kernel for optimal battery life with pretty decent clock speeds as well. Thanks again.
If your apps crash it is more likely to be caused by your undervolting.

Yeah I read your post earlier in that thread and was using your settings. I've come across a newer problem, my phone randomly reboots. I don't know what was causing this so I restored default settings.
When you change kernel or kernel setting it is usual that your phone may need a few reboots before stabilizing

Unlock the frequencies and run the app that causes the reboot. If it doesn't reboot that was the problem. More likely its too much under volt. The table in the link is some pretty severe undervolting. 740 is a long way down from the stock 925. That's great if your phone can handle it, but can cause problems if it can't. Piece of advice, never use any set on boot settings if your not sure it will. You may find yourself in a bootloop and have to reflash the kernel to get out of it.

I doubt locking the frequencies has anything to do with your reboot problems, this simply dissallows any apps that are capable to override the voltage settings for any particular frequency step. In fact, unchecking this may actually give you a false positive of it 'fixing' the problem when it is actually just using the default (or higher) voltages, burning up more battery in the process. As mentioned by jethro and liltitiz its more likely your UV settings, keep playing with them until you find the happy spot (works on other things too....:silly.

Or just move the ktweaker apk from the /system/app directory from a recovery based file manager. This will keep it from launching on startup and then can either be moved back or ran to reinstall. This way you dont have to cleark the dalvik cache, which should be done any time a kernel is installed, eliminating the extra long boot time when this is done. Either the built in TWRP explorer or the Aroma File Manager which can be 'flashed' in recovery. It doesn't actually flash anything, just unpacks, runs, and then is dumped from memory on reboot...very handy if you dont have TWRP or can't get into android.

Thanks, I was wondering what was going on. I restored stock Voltage and realized that it was the problem.
I flashed the honeycomb battery icon. I have another app that I've been using (Android booster) that is a task killer. it shows my battery life, it was right on before the new icon but now they don't match up the widget says I have 10% more life in my battery then my battery icon on my status bar. Is there any way to fix this problem? or should I just deal with it

1st off, I'd recommend dumping any "task killer" as the GN2 has this functionality built in, especially since we're talking about battery performance...
2nd, I'd concentrate more on wakelock settings, and if I had to download any app it would be those that helped manage this. This way you can force everything to sleep when your not using your phone...
Also, depending on the governor, you may need to adjust your phones clock throttling upon waking/using the device, custom may be your best bet, but there might be a "built-in" profile that works perfectly for your particular individual usage

For some reason, I seem to only be able to manage about 5 hours of screen time. I've heard of people getting 6-8 hours.
I'm using this ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2150145 but for some reason, that thread isn't very alive..
I tried the jedi ROM, but I just can't stand it when developers change little things about the UI. Is 5 hours normal for a ROM that's mostly stock? I'm using the UNEAK kernel.
