What do you guys think of it? Personally, I prefer it to TouchWiz, but I chose the S3 because of the removable battery and the disaster that was the Evo 3D. I'm currently taking programming at school, learning Java and C# and was considering working on porting Sense 4.0 from the Evo LTE to the Sprint S3 as my first ROM. What do you guys think? Worth it or not?
Do it! Do it!!!:beer: But maybe wait till sense 4+ is on the Evo. So you'll be the greatest for porting the latest or maybe do both, I'm sure you have seen people asking for lower sense versions on newer devices. Yea, Idk why either :sly::what:

If you think you can port sense, go for it. It might be interesting to see.

Extremely tough but isnt impossible whatsoever. I would have to say that not too many people would run it after too long due to the fact that Sense 4.0 and up has horrific multitasking compared to TW along with us having an extra GB of RAM and at the same time Sense is also configured and modified to focus on foreground apps. I own both devices and it really is a GIGANTIC difference.

I say do it. It would just give us something more to mess with and I'm not about to bash that.

Sense used to be good on evo4g. But with evo3d and lte, it's gotten so overbloated and laggy, it's not worth it.
I left the EVO LTE because of how horrible sense was.. its was way too laggy and it takes more steps to accomplish simple tasks. Just my opinion, but definitely go for porting it, nothing is wrong with flashing choices.

I just picked up the s3 a couple days ago. I had the hero, evo, 3d and lte. I was gonna flip the s3 for profit. Within 4 hours of playing with it I activated it and the s3 blows the evo out the water. Sense is great so is HTC but tw is great and Samsung is superior

I like sense but htc makes it so hard to root there phones now and once root is found they update to new bootloader. I had my evo 3d for almost a year befor I had root. My sgs3 never had to wait. So getting a sense port would be B.A. Im getting used to tw again but it still bugs the crap out of me.

Yes HTC is a little tricky. But its not impossible to root HTC devices, actually you don't even have to s off, there are other methods as well. To be honest I don't think rooted HTC phones belong to the average user. You probably have to be adb/fastboot savy if you know what I mean.

In every device (I have seen it running on) Sense UI has always been the Memory Hog: Destroyer of Batteries. It was the primary reason I invested soooo much time in rooting the OG Evo.
Other than that, it is a slick, unified, and visyally appealing UI.
If you were looking to develop it... this would be the perfect device for it: ~2gig RAM = best platform for the Hog.

got to agree. does seem a bit quiet. i am keeping both (well, the inc goes to the daughter but i will keep tweaking it for her) so i want the devs to keep working on the inc.
It's probably temporary, the Inc community will last for a while.
Sent from my Incredible with the XDA Premium App.
Recently (as in a few days ago) coming from an Eris, which was 'end-of-life' in the middle of last year, and then received Gingerbread almost instantaneously after it was released to the public thanks to our fine devs here at XDA, I highly doubt the DInc will die out any time soon. This phone has way too much potential.
I expert it do die down in time, but the CM machine will keep chugging. Honestly, so long as Cyanogen has a DInc ROM, I'll be content. I use launcher pro, and prefer stock android over anything else, so not having new versions of sense isn't a big deal to me. Sometimes I like to jump on the MIUI train, but I always end up back with Cyanogen. They always support their phones so well, I imagine development for cm will continue long past the DInc's shelf-life.
I think even if it does dwindle, it will only be minor. As long as we have CM and a good maintaner we should always have something new and better to throw on our phones. The only thing is I've always wanted to see AOSP roms with tv-out but I see very little future in anyone dev that now that interest in it has died down.
I have been tryin z roms lately with very good success, and their cameras are the bomb. Aosp is nice an smooth, but i like the option to switch atound alot, plus cm camera just isnt that good. Im runnin miui gb now, with zero issues, kinda shox me for a first release just how good this rom is. I would love to see gb sense though just to have it.

I just don't see the rom being much better granted the new Sense might be cool to look at.
DINC // CM7 RC2 // SLAYHER#9
I may be completely wrong in saying this but i think the tb is actually going to increase the amount of dev on the dinc. When you look at the evo and dinc there are roms that run on both. From what ive heard of the tb its basically a evo just a lil bit better. So as soon as a good way is made for easy transfer of rom from tb to dinc or to evo we will have more options on the dinc. Plus as soon as the problems are sorted out of how to get tb roms and code to run on the dinc we will be getting more updates to stock releases.

I had an Iphone 4, didn't like iOS so I decided to go check out the thunderbolt, I was less than impressed. No 4g around me, and I didn't want to pay $100 on top of giving my iphone 4 back. So I picked up an incredible, and couldn't be happier. Its such a solid phone. Perfect size.

I'm just being honest here, I have always read that TouchWiz is the worst thing you can do to your poor android. I have seen countless posts here hating on TW. Never tried it myself, but given it's reputation of being pure **** I can't imagine too many people would swap a Sense Rom(which seems to have a rep as being the only OEM mod of Android worth using) for a TouchWiz one(which most people here seem to hate). Just saying.

IMHO just try to get a working TouchWiz launcher. I know TouchWiz is like Samsung's Sense, but there is an older TouchWiz launcher APK floating around on the 'net, I used it on my Nexus One, once.
The new one is nice, though. I have played with it on my wife's Epic. I'd use it.

You may in fact be alone here.. I had a Samsung Fascinate and if it wasn't for the development community I would have been completely turned off from the Droid system.. I thanked the Droid God's when my Fascinate crapped itself and I was able to get a DINC2 for a replacement.. Almost made me switch to an iPhone.. Sends chills down my spine.. $0.02 !!
its probably never gonna happen touchwiz is heavily tied into the framework much like sense is. while a few Samsung phones have a sense port they are far from fully functional. I imagine it would be the same the other way around. not saying it can't be done but I believe it would be much more trouble than its worth

I fell in love with HTC with the Eris, loved my inc1, and loving my inc2. I can only hope that HTC produces a phone in the future smaller than 4.3' screen.. Just too big for me. I'd personally like a 3.8' screen. But what can ya do. They seem to actually be getting bigger. 4.65' for a phone is just crazy to me.

Well considering the fact that the new Galaxy S2 has neon support it actually might be possible. It would have to be a full RUU type of ROM because the framework would have to be totally changed. Id say its possible though.

Its not really downgrading your phone its just a different UI. And technically Touchwiz is probably faster considering it doesnt have near the bloat and is a lot closer to AOSP than Sense is.
so, i recently switched phones, i had the evo 4g, and now ive got the epic 4g touch. With the evo, i hated sense, despised it, it was super intrusive and overall crappy looking to me. But TouchWiz is pretty awesome in my opinion. On the Evo, I used AOSP roms to get rid of sense. I want to try 4.2 jellybean, but i dont want to lose touchwiz, so whats stopping me form flashing a 4.2 AOSP rom, then a touchwiz launcher zip over that? would that work at all? sorry if this makes zero sense, i dont really have an excuse though....

Touchwiz isn't just a launcher. It is laced in throughout the entire OS.
If you want a really good ROM use this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2025466 It is my daily driver.
Please make sure you read the entire OP and the first couple posts right after. It will also do you goo to go through the entire thread. We have a ton of tips and tricks in there for this ROM.
As of right now, 4.2 is still in its alpha stages and very buggy. Not worth using as a daily driver at this time.

So far? Even though it's ICS, it's the latest official OTA, and tweaked and customized with features no rom here can offer. Don't like the kernel, pick a new from right in the rom. Don't like there being a clock in the statusbar? Get rid of it, from right in the rom. Need some new fonts? Themed apps? DOnt want some of those bundled apps? Hell, you can customize it before you even install it. You can really feel the love put into the rom by the developer. I personally can't wait for a jelly version, but until I see the OTA, I am going to.
Why do you say that? I was a little unsure about it after sense. I was deadset on getting AOSP right away, but I turned the phone on and was like, hey, this isn't so bad. I've used nova, holo, adw, and go launcher...but I like touchwiz a lot better than any of those, minus the fact you can't hide icon labels on touchwiz. Might be the only drawback
