[Q] Fast/lite r800x rom - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Once again I'm back asking the same question as before. I hate doing this but I get so far out of the loop that I have no clue where the things have gone with the Xperia Play. But without further ado here we go.
I have done some digging through the development thread as well as the general and FAQ threads. Im looking for a light rom that is very good with gaming. Im currently running... well I cant seem to find it now. Anyways its starting to flip out on me here and there. Ive had it for a long time and I know development has come to a halt on it so its time to switch. I really don't care whether its ICS or Gingerbread. It would be cool if it was ICS but it still looks like ICS is to tough for our phones to run along with games. It also looks like PS pocket still is not supported on ICS, but I could be wrong. Along with the rom being light I want it to support the PS pocket so I can play my PSX games. This is a must for me. It seams stupid to drop a feature that was the whole reason for me getting this phone. I see a lot of people are saying NTX Light rocks and from what I see it does but its GSM only. From the looks of it CDMA seams to be a rare thing to support in a rom now a days. I don't blame the developer since the CDMA community looks to be a ghost town. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!! Id love to hear from the few CDMA users still here but you GSM guys are alright. Your opinion is welcome as well .
Edit: Oh and if you haven't guessed my bootloader is unlocked.

Cola rom on 2.3.3 gb or gbtweaked i got darkforest 3.0.5 as my bootloader is locked all three have done great for me.
sent from my r800x with darkforest rom 3.0.5 on locked bootloader

I got Cola rom on my X and never looked back

I prefered Stock .2.3.4 (64 baseband) with RooT and delete all malware ( FB, Timescape etc) + DooMKERNEL V14 + ICS Theme its ultimate weapon...
FAST, STABLE, LIGHT ( only using only 80MB of RAM... 250MB FREE for you)
I can upload for you CWM Backup

I use to be on cola but I was having stability issues for some reason. I guess it could of been because of a bad flash. After a month or so it started bugging out on me. If I'm not mistaken Hogwarts was going to pass the cola rom onto someone else. Did this happen or is development still at a stand still since Hogwarts phone got eaten?
As for 2.3.4 I also had that before cola but gmail would never sync. The stock roms are OK but I notice, even after uninstalling all the bloatware there is still speed issues compared to a bare rom. Unless this has changed?

I think v6 supercharger that was preinstalled in cola is giving you problems.

Well last night I stayed up and installed cola again. It started acting up on me again then I remembered chery2k said v6 came installed on the rom. I always use AutoKiller Memory Optimizer with any rom install and thought they might be interfering with each other. Did a fresh install this time not installing AutoKiller and she runs like a champ. Normally by the end of the day I have 20-5 % battery life left. Now Im at 50% and I still have my usual 1.5 Ghz overclock. Thanks for the recommendation guys. Even though its an old rom I use to be on you helped me fix the issues I had with it. THANKS!

Not really happy because..

Ehi guys!
I hope to write in a good english, because i'm italian.
I have an Xperia Arc and i'm not so Happy about it.
I'm going to explain why :
Before receiving this Arc, I had a htc hd2.
I was pretty happy, I had no problems whatsoever.
But now, with this Arc'm having a relationship not too happy because it is slow!
I installed several rom, The Arconium ics V5, V8 the ginger, the SEMC and other.
But I always have the same problem, as I listen to music, the phone slows down significantly, and if I try to run 3 apps simultaneously as WhatsApp, Music, Browser, the phone lags and becomes UNUSABLE.
If I get a call it, the screen remains black and I can not answer.
Well, maybe it's a ram problem?
Becomes really impossible to use, slow and I have to restart the phone.
also with the supercharger, is not good.
the phone has no hardware problems, so do not know what to think ..
If any of you could give me his opinion, I would be happy.
Thanks, I hope I was understandable.
What can I say, apparently HTC's programmers are far better than SONY's. I have my Arc S and I'm not fully happy with it either.
Ive never had a problem like that.
Are you using the latest software provided by sony ?
Tried overclock ?

Try V6 Supercharger
Sell it and buy another phone
Mine runs ok, not good but ok, looking forward to S III

then try something which is not stock
i was on CM7 the experience was quite good
now on ICS beta.. waiting CM9
i'm an arc user, installed the latest fw (4.0.2.a.0.62).
everything is stock. got around 130mb free ram on idle.
i have no problem doing wifi+music+facebook/download or 3g+music+browser(m.facebook). and i do this everyday.
I'm with Squalldua on this. I'm also an Arc user with stock rom / all bloatware remove / more or less changed some initial system apps to what I like and I get great speed and memory usage. I haven't seen lag or slowdown from opening and switching application.
There has to be other underlying issues with what some of your are experiencing. I can listen to music, browse online, facebook opened and gmail and it's running smooth and the music doesn't skip.
The question is what aren't you telling us? Worst case, SELL IT get a new one.
How much apps do you have?
I have ~100 apps and a lot of stuff running, updating and syncing
Sent from my iPad 2 using Tapatalk
I had galaxy s before Arc, I liked the Arc more but I miss the super amoled screen.
try oc'ing and supercharging with CM7.2

Is it advisable to update to ICS from Gingerbread on Arc S...?

Should i update my phone to ICS from Gingerbread??
Or its not a good idea?
Performance vs looks
IF you really want a beautiful experience(WITH LAG) of the interface(FOR A LITTLE WHILE) in lieu of the OVERALL SYSTEM PERFORMANCE then please UPDATE TO ICS.
BUT if you want to have a better experience(WITHOUT ANY LAG) with all of the phone's feature THEN STAY WITH THE GB.
I have tried almost every ICS ROM for the ARC and almost every ROM HAS A LAG(in the beginning it doesn't come into action but after some time when caching of system applications start it's the most HORRIBLE experience with the phone and sometimes you can't even use your phone for call or messaging (LIKE IT'S LAGGING LIKE HEELLL) ):crying:
SO it's upto you..what i think
I AM BACK TO GB FROM ICS
REST IS YOUR CHOICE:good:
plz hit thanks if i helped
ICS consumes more resources, there's no way round that, but a properly configured Arc can easily run ICS with ZERO lag. You do need to be careful what apps you have running in the background - see this post for more details: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=30809767&postcount=11
Personally, I would never go back to GB. My phone is so much more stable on ICS, you can run a number of tablet-only apps, battery life is significantly improved, etc.
I've not tried the latest Sony rom, but previous ones have not been great - too bloated and sluggish. Custom roms are IMHO definitely the way to go for ICS on the Arc.
Update?
Just Update to the latest .578 ICS and if you feel the device is slow/irresponsive use Bloatware Remover to make RAM consumption better
Xperia Arc Can Handle ICS , Great as GB.
It depends Upon the Developer Of it.
I say go for a try
If i install Sony's official ICS will i lose my root, and will i have to install different kernel? I am currently using doomLord's kernel.
Hi
To upgrade or not to upgrade…
Few days ago I come back to old GB 2.3.4 simply because I have some unfinished business with some games I didn’t finish while on GB – and also sort of compare to what was like to be on GB again comparing to ICS… (anyways it takes me @ 15min to switch to any Android ver. And with CWM backup it a matter of minutes to be back on favorite ROM…)
Man I felt like I was driving on handbrake all this time… you feel like flying fast… no LAG whatsoever it feels great again… speed wise.
From the moment ICS come out I already flashed it via flashtool and rooted, immediately I started to try out different kinds of ROM modes out there… tried like maybe 10 of them (could only use some as I need to stay with locked BootLoader… so no custom kernels.) Anyway after so many months of playing around – the only ROM which suited my needs was JJROM 3.1 – also the look of it is great for me… so I stayed with it… flashed XPERIA S Walkman port + some other little add-ons which made my ROM complete…
Now somebody wrote here that you need to be very careful what you run on ICS ROM in order to be sure it can run smoothly enough… and this is so true…
When buying originally the phone (ARC S) it was supposed to serve me like a little computer machine while I’m away – Internet, mail, GPS, banking, photos, music, movies, YouTube, FB… etc, etc… it supposed to be very flexible and have enough power to do many things with many programs as possible… now with GB I noticed that I’m able to do many more things at once while lag-free then with ICS… I didn’t buy phone just to make calls and SMS – as many users tent to use their smartphones for… for me it have to do some rather heavy duty stuff…
Unfortunately ICS is very memory hungry and I noticed that with time after installing all favorite apps it starts to lag… you don’t notice till you have some reference like trying again GB with the some programs… don’t fall into adverts of different ROM makes that their ROMs are so great and fast – lag free and have so much RAM free – and blah blah… they flash fresh ROM, take few screenshots of fresh install with so much RAM free (zero apps running), then upload some clips on YT so you are amazed at the smoothness… BUT the real life starts after somebody installs their 10+ favorite apps and then can test the ROM in real life… and most of the time you realize that the difference between “before and after” is like night and day… ROM becomes unusable… or lags terribly.
I will be going back to my beloved ICS JJROM3.1 (after I finish the games I can’t on ICS) but I realize that it will never be as fast as GB… I just love the HOLO layout and look of ICS… I miss already some of the ICS options and functions, but the speed of GB is just amazing so I will stay on it to enjoy a bit longer… ha. I guess someone needs to find this “in between” ROM, where he can use as many of his apps as possible and still have reasonable speed left. I have running all GG services, FB Firendcaster, Forum app, weather, RSS reader, maps, Email etc etc and no lag whatsoever – games load fast and run perfectly without any glitches… while playing NOVA, DeadSpace, Shadow Guardian etc I still receive mail and forum/FB/RSS notices in the background and games don’t stop or even shatter for a moment, you don’t feel like there is any problem with having all this background services going on… well with ICS is a bit different, I can still run the some games (exept SG)… with this services, apps etc but it will take longer to load and while receiving notifications games shutter for few sec…
I found GB ROM called JellyBreadV2Arc which is modified version of stock GB which is super for my needs (has removed all FB bloatware + other tweaks) runs really fast…
Anyway – don’t know why I started all this… I guess the question to flash ICS or not is very hard to answer – if you want to try something new and are willing to sacrifice some gaming and a little speed then try it out… there is always way back…
One thing I noticed immediately with GB is battery life, is not as good as on ICS and charging takes longer on GB… which bugs me a bit… I know that with different kernel would improve but I don’t want to unlock BL… so needs to be that way.
ics it's no so bad, i really never used GB too much, but is said that it's better for battery life. I'm happy with ICS.
When I bought my Arc S LT18i, the ICS update was already available. I started using it with gingerbread but then, when I already had the apps I wanted, I decided to update my phone to ICS (4.1.A.0.562). Everything was ok until I booted my phone for the second time after the update. Couldn't unlock my sim and it just freezed. Had this problem for a month. I was so mad! I booted into safe mode, restored using PC Companion but the problem didn't go away. But then came the 2nd ICS update (4.1.B.0.431) and it just fixed things. The 3rd update (4.1.B.0.587) didn't bring any changes as far as I can see. But I still recommend you update to ICS. Or just flash CM9 stable.
Let's just not ask people, try it and see if you like it. Don't get me wrong but we can't help you as we all see ICS differently so you must try it out and see if it suits your everyday life. Also if you don't like it, you can always flash back to GB. Getting the root is simple enough and to find it, Google. Right now I suggest getting ICS because in my point of view, ICS is fast, sleek and beautiful.

Let me tell you now to get perfect ics. Once updated to ics, root using eroot toolkit n then install cwm using x-parts. Then go to cwm, flash odexed notification led fix, flash jb adreno drivers. Then boot phone. Now ul have a lot of smoothness and notification bug won't be there. U can then also install titanium backup n remove bloatware for even more speed. For the WiFi dropping problem, flash kernel of .13 firmware. Then ul have the ultimate ics experience. Sony's ics update is incomplete. Do all this n then it'll be a proper update!
Nice Review ,TNKS

My S2 is slower than my Sister's S2???

Hey Guys recently i got the S2 white on Tmobile for free and it came with the 4.0.4 ICS Firmware and ive notice that my phone is kind of slow comparing it to my sister's S2 wich is black and its on the 2.3.6 Firmware. I dont know if its the phone with a problem or if its the 4.0.4 firmware causing that my phone is slower than hers. Anyone that can tell me something about this??? Another thing is that she got her S2 when they first came out on Tmobile and i got mine just a couple a days ago, so for me it doesnt make any sense that my phone is slower and laggs a lot.
You sure you don't have anything running in the background, or is it just laggy without anything installed on it? Might be because of some background apps that you do not know of

I dont think is that because i only have a few apps and im always doing the task mannager clean up, so i did a couple of tests with both like entering to the contacts, phone, txt, apps, browser etc and my phone was always a little slower than hers in every area. And when im scrolling the app list my phone is slower and laggy and hers fast and smooth. So i dont know im thinking about doing a downgrade to 2.3.6 since i dont see a great difference on the OS, to see if my phone works better that way, im waiting for the jelly bean update so i can enjoy my phone more. I dont know what do you think i should do?

I agree with icenight89 - why downgrade when you can use a custom ROM/kernel with more control over the performance of your phone? Many kernels have loads of governors to choose from that optimize what stock ROMs use, depending on if you're going for more performance or for more battery life (or some combination of the two). The KKO kernel has a lot of governors, or you can check out this new one based off KKO (keep in mind it's only for JB roms): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2111871
Generall, Task Killers aren't really that effective and invite FC's. You best bet is to root, remove bloat, and try some tweaks. Otherwise, like me, resort to Custom ROMs/Kernels. Take a peek at the Android Development Section and be prepared to be amazed at the plethora of choices you will encounter. While some focus on performance, others focus on better battery. It's all about trying out what's there and choose one of your liking. Good Luck. Let me know if you would like some recommendations.

[Q][Answered][Xperia NXT1.3][Locked Bootloader]Data Problem?

Hello,
I've been really pleased to finally aquire a Xplay, and couldn't help rooting and putting roms on it!
So I've tried Xperia NXT1.3 due to popular praise and so far I love it, it's very clean and although I was used to the plenty of extra settings from the CyanogenMod roms I used before on my old phone, I didn't want to unlock my bootloader and void my warranty as I just bought it, and some defect might still turn up. The rom still offers a bit more than the stock, wich is all I asked of a daily rom.
But here's the thing: although data through 3G worked fine on stock, I haven't been able to get it to work since flashing?
I was on firmware .42, so I flashed .58 Enhanced before putting the rom on there and everything, wiped cache and data, set my APNs, did everything by the book (or so I thought), but nothing...
I've looked but couldn't find anyone having trouble with that, any ideas what might be the problem here? I can still use the wifi but that's rather annoying to not be able to use WCDMA.
I would have posted this in the Xperia NXT thread, but I'm too new for the development forum apparently.
Any ideas?
TL;DR: My Data doesn't work with the rom Xperia NXT 1.3 that I'm using.
No one?

Try flashing the ftf and reflashing the ROM. I had a similar problem but my service wasn't working. Flashing ftf and reflashing ROM helped. Also if you just got the xplay brand new I would advise you to change it. Its a nice phone but pretty outdated. You might like a phone with better specs. Only reason I'm sticking with it is because of the great devs we have for it though the game pad is also nice.

Thanks for your reply!
Which ftf should I reflash? The 58 Enhanced? I was going to try other roms today to see if that fixed it, and other ftfs with the same rom, but to be honest I wasn't really sure about that last one, is there incompatibilities issues?
About changing it, to be honest I had an X8 before, so this is a huge improvement for me! The dev community was amazing and it's a great phone though, I really loved it. I'm not one for big specs, I mainly use my phone to play emulators and texting/phoning/music, and none of these things requires any more than this phones offers. I don't really do HD gaming and videos, I have a laptop for that! And I absolutely love the gamepad, this is really the only way I could justify ditching my x8, this is to say how much high end wouldn't do much for me!

I have this problem with NXT 1.3 and DiXperia 2. I request the APN setup from my service provider few times but I can't receive the setup, manually set APN, not working also, so I tried create an APN, enter the first two section (APN name and another one I forgot) then save it, and surprisingly I got my data working! Mind telling me your device info? Maybe we have something in common and maybe we can fix it by changing something
> jeff7424
You're totally right! I tried what you said and it worked! That's just weird.
In the meantime I had tried gin2jb, and it was working fine, so it was really the rom and not the FW it seems. The thing I've noticed is that NXT doesn't have the pop up on first connection that asks you to specify your provider, maybe there's something like that...
What kind of info do you think would help? It's a R800i GSM, the FW is 58 enhanced, baseband 67, the rest is ROM specific I think?
I remembered it used to work, I don't know why lol. I was using .58 enhanced few months ago and after I reflash .58 FW and NXT it doesn't work anymore (weird). Then I switched to .62 and NXT it doesn't work also, after that I tried .62 with DiXperia 2, not working also, so I gave up at first. Then I tried this few days back and it worked I dunno why lol

This should really be in those roms Q&A threads anyway, that was brilliant. Simple and clean!
Simple step...just download software "tweakker" from play store and run it while wifi connected... then it will find your mms and data plan setting... that all
Sent from my R800i using xda app-developers app
I wish I could test this... I'm not sure it would have, since I set it up manually with the values given by my provider and it didn't work...
Not setting anything worked fine though, so that's ok. It would be good to know though!

Question about Xperia Play Z Ultimate Edition rom (apps closing).

Greetings.
In hopes of finding someone who's facing a similar problem, I'd like to ask you about a certain issue.
I've installed the Xperia Play Z Ultimate Edition rom on my Xplay r800i. It's running all cool and great, but there's one problem. The apps are closing for no reason. It's like, one moment you're playing a game, and all of a sudden the main screen appears, as if you pressed the home button, but the app is gone. It looks like they're crashing when the phone is under heavy load. It happens to literally everything. Even Messenger bubbles often disappear when there's a new heavy app starting.
I've searched the rom's thread, but didn't find any information about such problem.
If this matters, I've flashed the kernel that was supplied by rom creator - 480p DoomKernel.
This is the first rom I've seen which has an issue like that, and I don't think there's any alternative, as this is the only ICS rom I know that keeps all of Xplay's core features while significantly improving speed and functionality.
Please help. Does anyone know why this happens?
Update: out of frustration, I've changed to another ICS rom, Honami 2.1.3, together with switching to a Lupus V7 kernel (ram version)... and the same thing happens. Although with the new rom my phone's performance seems to have DRASTICALLY improved, apps are still closing for no reason. There's not even a popup or error, or anything like that - it just pulls the plug and suddenly kicks me to the main screen.
This problem renders heavy games literally UNPLAYABLE. It runs perfect for like 5 or 10 minutes, with high framerate even, then out of a sudden BAM - back to the main screen. No error, no nothing.
Browsing around Lupus settings I've found something called Low Memory Killer. From what I understand, this thing kills the apps when the device is on critically low memory. Maybe this is the cause? And if it is, why the heck is it "going rogue" and killing apps that I'm ACTIVELY USING? How do I configure this? I assume you can't just disable it...
Please help.
Seriously? No one has ANY IDEA what's happening? Please help! I literally have no clue what may be causing this.
Switched to YET ANOTHER rom and kernel - Nexplay, with bundled Lupus kernel, this time also changing the firmware to R800i_4.0.2.A.0.58_Enhanced. With this one, the phone runs definitely the fastest, but guess what... same thing happens as before. Games commit suicide when played for too long. Out of all I've tested, the only ones that don't shut down are OpenTyrian and Nes emulator. Gun Bros worked fine for like 5 minutes, and suddenly closed, working very slow for like 2 seconds before it happened. Same thing with Vendetta Online but this one outright REBOOTED THE PHONE! And these games supposedly are optimized for xplay, so it doesn't make any sense why there's such a problem going on...
I'm starting to wonder if maybe it's because I'm using ICS roms? But then, I've never seen anybody reporting such problems with ANY rom. This definitely isn't a common issue. I'm also using Link2SD, but again, I've never seen anyone mentioning it causing anything like that.
I can relate to your problem. I've experienced the same (apps randomly closing while in use) issues 1 or 2 years ago and to me the development on these roms are dead since the developers have moved onto newer devices. Currently my xperia play is dead (bricked) however with experience of using many of the roms i can safely say that ICS is not meant for the xperia play. Sony themselves didn't officially release ICS for this device due to the number of bugs and problems associated with it. I'd recommend you to use GB roms to bring out the best potential of your device. ICS lags some way or another whereas GB doesn't. All games run smooth on Gingerbread and they certainly do not have issues like ICS does. The best rom for this device is Gin2kitkat ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631144 ) and my personal favourite Xperia NXT 2 r1 (i've used this rom the longest). Here's the link for that: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1649368
From experience, as long as you use a Gingerbread rom you should be good to go as they are the most stable for our device. Good luck
Aaw, that's a real bummer. The problem with GB roms is that there's a lot of ICS apps and games that I really need. One of the main reasons I've decided to unlock bootloader on this device is because I wanted to get an upgrade to ICS. It's really strange. I've seen people play advanced games on this phone (example) and there are no signs of problems such as the one I'm experiencing.
Thanks a lot for your reply. I guess I'll use one more ICS rom, and if that fails, I'll give GB roms a try.
Btw, what do you think about NXT Gaming rom? I don't care much about flashy UI and widgets, and as long as everything in the phone works (camera, xLoud etc.) priority for me is gaming performance, and from description, this rom seems to be the most aggresive I've seen when it comes for optimizing performance for games.
I agree, from the vid the user is seen to be running the ROM "ICS Ultimate". Also i haven't tried the NXT gaming rom only the NXT 2r1 but regardless, with that rom i've been able to play emulator games and heavy intensive games such as Fifa 2012. I'd only imagine the 'NXT Gaming rom' is faster and better but since i haven't tried it, i'm unable to give you a direct response, sorry. Anyways Gingerbread will always be the best in terms of gaming performance and functionality, but if you're able to find a good ICS rom that is smooth when playing games such as GTA then it's entirely up to you whether you want to stay on ICS or not. Also correct me if i'm wrong but i remember GTA3 (not san andreas) being playable on gingerbread.
Correct, GTA3 DOES work on Gingerbread, but unfortunately only this one and Vice City do so. GTA San Andreas and Chinatown Wars will not work on anything lower than ICS. This is an example anyway, cuz there are few more things that I need and will work only on ICS.
Anyways, guess what. I've tried YET another Rom from a portuguese site (rom is Fusion ICS 2.4), and the problem stopped - apps no longer spontaneously shut down. There's another problem though... as this system is ridiculously unstable. Sometimes it's fast as lightning, then sometimes it slows down to a crawl for no reason - it has nothing to do with active apps; it often happens with no active apps running and with tons of free ram available. It's completely random. Even the interface sometimes crashes for no reason. Curiously though, all games run extremely fast and they never shut down on their own. Unfortunately, it's not worth using such a train wreck. Games running well while the rest of the system goes haywire defeats the purpose for me.
I'd give "ICS Ultimate" rom a try, but for some reason, I get virus alerts when trying to download or open the file. I guess I'll either wait until it's confirmed false alert, or go for GB roms finally.
