does the USB OTG HOST ADAPTER works for PEN DRIVE in note 2 (N7100)
Ah, of course it does (I use it with mine often). Why wouldn't it?
Yes it does..... but make sure to pick right cable as there are 2 kinds of cables in market one is for tablets and other one is for the phones. pick the phone one obviously

OTG is OTG, there's no difference between a tablet or phone one, it's the same wiring..
Good grief, the baloney some people come out with...
Whether the cable you have works or not depends on the quality of the cable. Pay pennies for it, and I'd be amazed if it worked with ANYthing. The cable I have is branded and comes from a reputable retailer. Works perfectly on all devices I've tried it on, including my N2.

I bought it from a local branch of Maplins, a UK retailer that specialises in components and cables etc. So that's zero use to you.
Like I said, OTG is OTG. Buy a decent quality cable from a reputable dealer rather than el cheapo garbage from eBay and you'll be fine.
i got mine off ebay for 99p and it works a treat. works on my note 2 and my old sgs2. even used it to charge my note 2 by connecting it to my sgs2
i got oringinal samsung s3/ note2 otg cable.. am using note 2.. otg gets connected but it doesnt read my pen drive.. help me.. do i need to instal any app

I want to try this feature but cannot find an adapter that works. I bought one off eBay but that was no good, the supplier stated it was for the Galaxy Note but didn't work on Gingerbread 2.3+ which was odd as obviously the Note ships with Gingerbread 2.3
I contacted Samsung who said I needed the official Samsung OTG cable but they don't sell to Joe Public .. trawling endless sites to find a supplier came up zero.
So if anyone know of a supplier (UK preferred) of one of these compatible adapter / cables please let me know
Good to see someone started this topic, very useful..
I have the Galaxy note and managed to connect my Keysonic keyboard with builtin mouse with no problems. I have the otg adapter and when I plugged in the wireless adapter the note picked it up as a keyboard and mouse, worked great.

Also the scrolling on the mousepad worked!!

Thanks a lot for the Amazon link I also found the identical one on the UK site here:

I shall order one and report back
EDIT: this arrived and I can confirm it does work. Thanks to the OP for this link

I've just tried my N8s adaptor but no luck I'm afraid. It's connector to the phone is thicker and simply won't fit into the Note.
Nokia (at least the official cable) uses the "correct" Micro USB A for Hostmode.
You have to get Micro USB B for the Note.
(B cable fit in A but not otherwise)

Anyone try a generic USB Gamepad? I have a PS3 copy/generic USB that would be cool to hook up to it for emulator games.
I have the original adapter and it's working great:

USB gamepads should work when ICS is coming. Its in there.
dose this mean that not any OTG cable will work!
most are working but some are cheap quality
and some not well made
i bought several OTG cables from a seller on ebay and all worked

Are you referring to those external hard drives that take power from the USB port?
What about those external hard drives that take on a separate power supply, those that are attached to a power socket? Anyone tried plugging in one of those to a Note?
ok I just buy one and it did work fine with sandisk 64gb.
so it's confirmed that it can read portable drives.
looking forward to owning one.
I bought an MHL adapter from amazon and i connected it to my tv and it doesn`t work. I connected it to power, Ive rebooted my phone several times and still couldn't get it to work.
Any suggestions?

hmmm if everything is plugged in.. it should be detected right away... could it be a rom or kernel issue? undervolted kernel might cause problems because welll not enough volts obviously. a couple weeks back using faux kernel.. i couldn't use anything below -25 volts to keep a steady display.
I've had the same problem running non stock roms and kernels. My buddy has a stock SGS2 tried it worked, tried mine nothing. Try going back to stock or at least a stock rom. I just ordered my MHL adapter and are currently running Mr. X stock rom with darkside kernel, when i get my shipment ill report back. Hope this helps.
S...
Ive tried going back to the stock rom but had no luck.
My tv seems to recognize that something is plugged in, it just wont display properly. I reset the settings on my tv but that didnt work either. Hmmmm

As simple as turning on & off the tv.
I bought a cheap mlh adapter and a cheap hdmi cable from ebay and had neither the phone or the tv recognize each other. The solution was to plug in the power to the mlh adapter first, then plug it into the phone second; then turn the TV on with it switched to the correct hdmi source and finally, plug the hdmi cable into the mlh adapter. But sometimes I still have to sleep(standby screen) the phone and wake it before it work even with this method. I tried plugging and unplugging these components a few different ways but this was the one that work for me and has continued to work every time. Hope this helps.
Try plugging everything in, then rebooting your phone while it's hooked up to your tv.
Ive tried everything i can think of. Mabey the adapter is bad.

get the monoprice adapter, good and inexpensive.. unless you got it from there.. probably bad adapter lol
Easy to check
I would try plugging the power cord into the mlh adapter then into your phone, if you get power to the phone it might suggest that your hdmi cable is the culprit. If you get power to your sgs2 then I would try switching out the hdmi cable with another to rule out the cable as the bad egg. If both the mlh adapter and the cable test good then one last test would be to switching out which hdmi port you are using by changing the cable to another hdmi port. The last check is unlikely but I am just trying to cover all the bases.
This is just my two cents but sending back products tend to increase cost and adds up quickly. I tend to try every available avenue before returning products. The comment about Monoprice selling this adapter is right on, as this where i got mine for dirt cheap. Good luck with what ever you decide.
need any and all the help i can
I have a samsung galaxy s infuse 4g ... and a sony brava tv... i have bought 2 mhl adapters and 2 hdmi cables .. hooked them up in as many orders as possible as well as turning the phone off and on but still nothing does anyone have any sugestions to help make this work ???
Sounds crazy but if all else fails.
You could use the og adapter. I found on samsungs website http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/EIA2UHUNBEGSTA
And i check if your phone the Infuse was compatible which it is. Last ditch effort take the phone and the adapters to your retail store and see if they can get them to work. Sorry, if these suggestions are not better than my above comments, but I can't think of any other measures to try. Hope you get the problem solved.

Did you plug power into the adapter? It needs a power source, so plug your charger into the side of it ...

Because i have noticed that on youtube of the unboxing of my model phone it has a mhl suplied in the box..
Hey thankyou for your sugestions but im having a hard time finding the Samsung mhl adapter in Canada apparently we dont get in im the box with the phone because of some law... Do you think the American website would send to Canada?

The s2 uses the standard micro usb connector which is also used on alot of other devices such as nokia,bb etc..so its quite easy to get a spare cable.
Yeah I've ended up using a nokia one before haha. I remember reading that they're trying to get most newer phones to use micro usb so that its all standardised. Except apple probably never will

Yup, I'm using a nokia cable right now. I think that some time ago the european commission actually passed a law or something that makes a microUSB port mandatory in all new phones..
Indeed they did. The microUSB becamed the standard in 2010 to charge phones.
I guess apple prefer to pay fines to have proprietary charger/cables.
I got a Micro-USB to USB (female) cable form ebay... from China (I didn't know until I chekced later. I usually have the "UK sellers only" option checked).
Anyway, after an eternity, it arrived today. But, it doesn't work when I plug it in. Nothing happens. My Sandisk Cruzer doesn't light up when I plug it in or anything.
I was on the ninphetamin3 Kernel, and I've tried the Siyah kernel, just in case it's the kernel that was limiting functionality... Apparently it's not because it still doesn't work.
It only cost a couple of quid, but is there something I might be missing that I can check before buying another from the UK?

That is not necessarily an OTG cable... did it SAY it was an OTG cable? If not, it probably isnt. Pin 4 and 5 need to be connected (in the micro usb side) for it trigger OTG functionality. if it is not working it means one of 2 things:
1. You didn't buy and OTG cable, you just bought a cable with the ends you wanted, but without the funtionality
2. Something is broken on your phone... test that cable in another phone with OTG capability (go to a verizon store if you have to)
3. I think i remember seeing you need an app to use some flash drives (keybaords and mice work without any app, i can attest to that from experience)
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320786314480?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
That's the one I got. It's 5pin, but you're right in that it doesn't say it was OTG.
I don't have another OTG compatible device to test with
I got an OTG cable and I tired loads of different things to get it working.... in the end I rebooted the S3 with a usb drive connected and it worked after that.
I'm on stock rooted LG6
This is what I got

yep, it is just a plug adapter.
You now have 2 choices:
1. cut open the micro USB, and connect pins 5 and six
2. buy one that actually says it is an OTG

Hi, as you might already know that the in box charging cable is pretty short in length, so I need an alternative, a lengthier cable. I was wondering if I buy one of those cheap MicroUSB to USB cable and connect it with the charger would that harm my device? What you guys say?
Thanks in advance.

Of own experience and I say no. Mine old usb cable that worked fine with Note 1, didnt worked with Note 2, when I plugged it in mine computer and it didnt recognized the phone. Why do Samsung have to copy everyhting Apple do? They changed the Lightning cable and Samsung changed god damn theirs microusb.

I've used el cheapo USB cables off of eBay with all my Android phones and have never had problems. A few cables have been dead on arrival but they're so cheap, I usually buy like 5 at a time anyways.
Of course, if you want to be absolutely super sure that the cable won't do any damage, you should buy official cables. But I see that as insanity, I'm not paying 19,90€ for a cable that I can get for €0,99 minus the Samsung logo. I just will not do that.
