Hey all,
My note 2 is locking up after I install or update an app in the play store, then restarts. The app update goes through successfully, but then locks up afterwards regardless of what I do next. This happens on both Wifi and HSPA.
My phone is rooted with the stock ROM.
Some apps were backed up and restored via Titanium Backup. I believe it has to do with these apps. Some apps' data was on the SD card. I uninstalled those apps, but it hasn't helped. The crash happens regardless of the app I update or install, whether or not it was restored via Titanium, downloaded for the first time from the market, or an app that came stock on the phone.
I tried clearing dalvik cache, but that hasn't helped. I tried pulling logs via logcat, but I can't find anything useful.
Any suggestions before I start uninstalling those apps one by one?
Thanks!
Here are three log cats from the time of crash.
File 1044pm: Updated an app via WiFi, then opened another app; it froze up on the Loading screen and restarted after about 1 minute.
File 1108pm: Updated an app via Wifi, then pulled down the notifications bar; it got stuck about 90% of the way down and locked up and restarted after about 1 minute. (System starts killing processes around line 32178)
File 1140pm: Updated an app via HSPA, then did nothing; phone restarted after about 90 seconds.
(System starts killing processes around line 28248)
If anyone has enough knowledge to tell me what might have happened, I would be very grateful!

The android market just gives me that striped animation anytime I try downloading an app. Have tried clearing the market cache, google framework service cache nothing seems to work! Just the new EU firmware OTA and rooted and removed the bloat apps and downloaded script manager from the market without any problems. Then tried to download a busybox app...thats when the market just stuck on the stripped animation and its been that way with everything else I've tried from the market incuding updates to my apps. Please any help guys??

Done a restart ?
If it does not help: Because you are rooted, you should be able to delete the Android Market. You can get the AndroidMarket.apk from the net and reinstall it(Unknown Sources have to be checked). But before doing something fancy, you should do a BACKUP, with CWM or RZR.

Yeah several restarts. Just got an update, it appears the youtube app also gets stuck with the rotating circle...cant load the video. Cant help but assume these are related. And also I've tried this on both wifi and 3G, same.

This is strange indeed. If even the solution above doesn't help, I would recommend you to flash you ROM via ODIN. Usually it should replace the missing files, so this could work. Do a Backup as mentioned above.
BTW: But generally your internet works? (via Browser)

Yes my internet works fine. I actually cant do anything requiring a usb cable since I lost mine and wont be getting a new one till the weekend maybe. I actually tried some other things like clearing the cache partition in recovery (stock) and logging out of gTalk and relogging in which solved similar problems for people online. Just seems everything is fine...except the market cant connect and download stuff, and youtube cant connect and load videos...I feel its a google account problem surely but dont have a clue what to do. Thanks for your response all the same.
First......Ensure SD Card is properly seated, open phone and make sure of this!!!
Do these :
Settings/Applications/Manage
Applications/All/
Downloads/Clear Data.
Media Storage/Clear Data....

I cant quite explain what happened, but I fixed it. It had to do with a botched backup/uninstall of google books with TB. I tried to back it up but it seemed to just hang up. Then I killed TB in the Task Manager and restarted it. I realised a backup had been made for the older version(1.46) instead of the new version(1.52). Google Books showed up as a system app after my last FW upgrade and I updated it (through the market) but the update made the app unusable(FC everytime I start it). I ignored all that at the time since I didnt use it actually. Tried to remove it yesterday and I guess that set this whole mess in motion. Thanks to all
Hi
The market is working and the updates are shown correctly.
However, whenever I choose "Update all" or just a single app for updating, the process starts but the file isn't downloaded. It just gets stuck at the "downloading.."-visualisation. For hours.
I've reflashed the newest gapps, tried to reinstall the market via titanium, but the issue persists. Any idea?
Clarification: There is no freeze, or no error message or something like that. It just doesn't start/finish to download the apps properly
Yeah yeah, of course:
Couple of minutes after finally posting to xda the problem is solved:
I reinstalled my backup via titanium, wiped the data,
entered the store. The phone crashed,
I took out the battery and inserted it again,
after restarting it demanded my agreement to the market update (not the initial one), it worked again
Last week I rooted my Xperia S, unlocked the bootloader, flashed XZXperience 2 and flashed RaymanX kernel.
Everything was working fine, today I formatted the Internal Storage using the Android OS and from CWM Factory reset, wipe cache partition and Dalvik cache. Phone booted ok again.
The problem is I installed something called Google Play cracked installer without thinking too much of what it was, and after formatting the phone my google play looked like a smily face still. From this Google play app I selected to reinstall stock Googleplay and reboot.
Now, the phone rebooted and said optimizing applications 1 of 1, and is constantly stuck on Android is upgrading.. Starting applications.
The battery cannot be removed and I cannot turn the phone off.
What should I do now? Before this I had Fastboot and CWM installed, now stuck in this loop
Thanks.
Found out if you hole Volume up and Power button for 5 seconds it hard resets/turns off.
Did that, turned phone back on and seems to have booted back into the phone.

The thing is that I had that Cracked Play Market too, just wanted to unlock the country restrictions but it didn't work, you could have just deleted the Vending.apk from system/apps and then reinstall the original Play market : ) It worked for me.
Maybe you know but, always try backuping your rom before doing something, I messed up my phone once and after that doing backup everytime when trying something new
Dude,
Don't use any cracked apps or installers. They carry viruses and other dodgy push apps which can fill your phone with rubbish and worse case leave it bricked.
Just leave them well alone.

So last night I flashed dottat's RUU (http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...nt/ruu-vzw-kitkat4-4-3-sense-6-s-off-t2867643) to update my phone to 4.4.3 stock. Usually when I run the stock rom, I try to get rid of all the verizon bloat garbage using root app delete and root browser. Maybe this time I got a little overzealous, because I most recently deleted two system apps: verizon location app, and the verizon cloud sync app. Before I did this, everything seemed to run fine. But after getting rid of those two, everything went haywire. Every few seconds my phone app would crash and it would give me the message that "unfortunately, com.android.phone has crashed"and the display kept flickering on and off. Also, I keep getting a poppup for an app called Phone: HBPCG Current Country" telling me I have not input my country, and asks me to select one from a blank list. After trying a few things, I went into TWRP to wipe the cache and dalvik. Fortunately, that seems to have cleared up the com.phone process from crashing every 10 seconds or so. But I still keep getting asked to select a country from "HBPCG Current Country". Has anybody experienced this or does anybody know how to stop it, maybe by deleting another service? I can't remember ever seeing a "verizon location reporting" app in 4.4.2 so I figured it was more garbage that verizon added to the ROM as needless bloat, and didn't think it would affect other phone services.
Thanks for any help on this, it's really irritating me. If I can't get it resolved I figure I might have the run the RUU again.
I should probably also mention that after wiping the caches, I got the "android is upgrading" bit when I rebooted and it said it was optimizing 67 apps. I'm not sure what that was for since I didn't flash any updates or anything, but I figure maybe recaching some system info since I ripped out so much system bloatware?
Now that santod released stock 4.4.3 debloated you should just flash that ROM instead. Sounds like less of a headache to just completely wipe and go from there.

Verizon Location WAS in fact in 4.4.2, and many services of the phone depend on it and won't function without it…
My fiancee has a fire phone, and she's had it for a few years. For the most of it, she's been using CM11 as her custom ROM. A few weeks ago, she mysteriously got it, and it wouldn't go away except when she disabled contact storage, but then she couldn't make phone calls. She then removed the dialer and it caused even more problems. I had to fully wipe her phone and re-flash back to Fire OS to get her dialer back. I then put CM11 back in, and everything was fine for awhile. Four days later, when Facebook updated, it did it again. We deleted Facebook, deleted the cache from contact storage, all that crap shown on Youtube, and still nothing. She opens up Chrome, it would pop up "process.acore has stopped", same with PlayStore. I wiped her phone again, then flashed her phone over to SlimKat, wiped dalvik cache, system, data, etc. It worked fine for a few days, then she opened up Cortana, and it's doing it again.
What apps have you disabled or uninstalled and/or installed since last wipe? Did you set it as a new phone after tou reinstalled cm11 or slimkat?
Try safeboot by clicking power button, then click reboot. Hold both volume up and down button while it fully reboots. You will see safeboot logo on screen. See if you get same error in safeboot. If not, then a change you are doing after fresh install is messing up your phone. Do a fresh install, then restore/install/uninstall one app at a time to see which app is responsible.
Every time I factory reset the phone, it's fine for awhile until some random app causes it again. The cause is different every time. At first, Facebook was the cause, then adding another Gmail account, then Reddit. We'll try your advice then get back to you.
If it is fine for a while, it is probably being triggered by some system app such as Google play services updating itself. I would suggest disable auto updates in play store and disable Amazon store if you haven't already. When phone prompts you that app updates are available, update one app at a time, (if have titanium backup and rooted, can backup the app before you update it). Once you find the culprit, open it in play store and disable auto update by un-checking the option by clicking three dots on top right. I had to do that for google play services because it was causing similar issues. Your issue may be related to contacts as well as calendar (clear calendar data but do not disable default calendar app from amazon)or one of the related background processes that is automatically updated but the updated version becomes incompatible with kit Kat causing all apps that depend on it to force close.
Check if your Google play services is newer than 10.0.84 version at the time acore error starts happening. If it is newer version then go to apk mirror website and download 10.0.84 version, uninstall the newer one and install this older one. Please do update if anything you did fixed the problem. Thanks.
