Possible to Make Backup Image of S3? - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

do i need to be rooted to make a backup image of the s3?

No just make sure u use odin to flash twrp or cwm and then make a back up through the custom recovery.. you dont have to be rooted.

FYI, flashing TWRP or CWM via Odin will trigger your flash counter. To reset it, you must be rooted to run Triangle Away. If you return your phone without resetting it, they'll know you tinkered with and flashed mods to your phone. Just FYI...
Without root, you can kinda do this. Check out this thread. It's not as good as a Nandroid but is as close as you can get (and many would argue is good enough).

Would Rerooting help?

So somehow someway my phone is on the "Galaxy S 2 Yellow triangle with exclamation mark" screen and wont boot up.
I simply wiped factory reset, and dalvik ( coming from Caulks Rom ) and then flashed Blazer Rom 3.7 and it never went past that screen.
My question is can i simply re root on my mac and would my phone go back to stock rooted OS? Or do I have to restore it through Odin?
Note I did backup my previous rom!
Sorry forgot to mention I cant access recovery either! I hold down volume up and power and nothing just stays on the yellow triangle screen...

Get calks format all ...flash it and then go to advanced and wipe system and then flash new ROM .... If it still doesn't work check md5 on the ROM that it's a good download if it's not redownload and flash ....you can always restore your back up

How do I do that? Sorry...I never really do things like this.. Do I simply put my phone into Download mode, connect it to Odin, and select PDA to a kernel I want? Woulld I do the same for CWM?

I would definitely recommend going this route. Follow the instructions in this thread it will help you to install ACS (CWM) Recovery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1268037
for future reference recovery is volume Up + power. not down.
From the sounds of it id say you may need to flash more than the kernal I was in a similar situation where my recovery wouldnt work and I couldnt boot into the rom and I had to flash back to stock through Odin to get it working again. Then after that I re rooted and flashed a rom.

Im not sure, when it happened to me there wasnt a way. Its really simple though I mean when I did it I was back up and running, rerooted, and running a rom in about 10 minutes if that.
This is the file you would need to flash the stock tar file http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1409634 this is what I used then after I just re rooted.

Yes but instead of ODIN you'll use Heimdall. There's a guide in the link below.

This is for rooting not for flashing a Rom I used this method to root but I need to restore even if its unrooting.

I've been in this situation before, you have a bad flash.... you have to odin back to stock redownlaod the rom you installed and try again... the yellow triangle will probably still be there but the phone will boot. i bought a jig to get rid of my yellow triangle (It really bothered me and the jig was like a buck)

Yes that guide is for rooting but you can flash ROM's with Heimdall too. Just do a Google search for it and you'll see. Either that or find yourself a windows box and ODIN a rooted ROM with clockwork recovery and then restore your backup.

No, you have to overwrite the stock recovery with CWM, otherwise it isn't possible. There is either stock or clockworkmod recovery.
Edit: OK, according to mariosraptor, it is not impossible, sorry for misleading. I had no idea about an emulated CWM.
I older, mostly htc devices you could fake flash cwm.
I don't know but maybe use mobile odin pro for flashing some stuff.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
You can use mobile Odin pro to flash anything. ..kernels. . Roms and mods. ..but you have to be rooted to use it. ..
And cwm makes nandroid back ups. ..so why not flash it?

[Q] Screwed rooting, black screen, no backup and TWRC installed. Need restore file.

Alright,
so I tried to root my Galaxy S3 using Odin, and it failed miserably, and I ended up getting a black screen. Nor did I make a proper backup before going ahead with the operation.
So, from what I can see, since Team Win Recovery Project is still installed, it seems my last option is to "Restore" some sort of default backup. I dont have a backup, but maybe someone in here does. : ]
Does anyone have a default TWRC backup available for GT-l9300 for me to use to restore my phone using TWRC?
That would be immensly helpful.
:highfive:
1) Wrong forum. Go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1563
2) Nobody will give you a nandroid because they contain personal data.
3) Odin a firmware from here: http://www.sammobile.com
How do/did you install TWRP without root in the first place ?
Because you don't need root to install recovery (Odin).
Ah, I've only ever used Odin when I obtained root and the guide I followed rooted from scratch, assuming you had neither root nor custom recovery.
I'm curious as to how all the pieces fell here (could the custom recovery have interfered with a rooting procedure that assumed you had stock ? - not really asking, just hypothesizing)

HELP PLEASE t889V stuck on Samsung logo

Hi Guys need help bad. I hope I didnt screw my phone up.
I rooted my phone using the latest toolkit and installed twrp. Once i did that I backed up everything including efs on the external card.
Once i did that I flashed Jedi x rom but did not have much signal so decided to flash another rom which was liquid smooth. Once I flashed it again
my signal was almost non existent. I downloaded a canadian modem in the zip file and flashed it using twrp the same way i would flash a rom.
After i did that i wiped all the data and cache and the system. As I was rushing it siince its late at night i got a message saying that I am not rooted. I ignored it and rebooted the system and now its stuck on samsung logo. What can i do? Please help!!!!!
It appears that when I hold vol up plus home plus power I can get into download mode. I hope that helps.
Can someone give me some help how to get it back to life. I am pretty sure I have to use Odin at this point but dont know how
Ok i did some reading and I think the next step is to download stock image for the wind mobile turn on Odin and upload the image to the phone..
What settings should I use in Odin? What should be checked at the top and am I to use PDA only?
You can use odin or just reflash the ROM. You said tout wiped system after flashing the modern. That means you erased what ever ROM was on there. It's sticking at Samsung because there is no ROM to boot into.

Well I cant get into TWRP and dont know how to flash a ROM through ODIN? I am total newb at this.
Could you give me some pointers once I open up odin what do i need to do ? Thanks
Have you puked the battery. Put it back in then held volume+, home and power? Your recovery should still be there.
Also, odin is easy. Just open it and click the pda box and put your stock ROM there. Two things make sure you put your image in PDA and PDA ONLY and make sure it's your official stock Image

In order to root again do i use the toolkit again or simply just download the pre-rooted rom and flash it with Odin? Which one would be better just
to get root again? Thanks!

When I did this approach, I did it in two steps. I downloaded factory image of the firmware and flashed the device by using Odin 3.0.7.
Next, I used a tool package called "Galaxy Note2 ToolKit." Follow the instructions for how to root.
When I did the procedure, the software also had an option to include clockworkmod recovery
and busybox.

Odin stuck at NAND Write Start

I need to return my phone to stock so I can send in for warranty. I used the one click method a while back. Unroot checker says im not rooted but I still have the su icon in my apps. I tried flashing the stock tar file but odin gets stuck at nand write start. Ive searched on how to correct this issue but from what ive read no one has found a solution. I have tried about 4 different odin versions. I wanted to try to flash a pit file to see if that works, but I can not find the correct pit file. Can I get some assistance please?

Go into the dev section, and find the stock/rooted UCAMA4 rom from Mr. Robinsons thread...http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=22901594685178627

Then remove SU from within the app.
Then take the update..(optional)
Flash counter will read "0", and device will read normal...
Dont forget to go into the stock recovery and wipe data, factory reset when done.
That's it...it's that easy.....g
Thanks a lot I really appreciate that G!. I actually got the counter back to 0 with the updated triangle away. Im still rooted on 4.1.1. So now I need to flash 4.1.2 to remove root and upgrade to 4.1.2. Hopefully I wont trip the counter .....
