Hey guys I received the evo adder from powermat today. It is one of the first production adapters for the evo, it works great and is the same size as the factory battery cover. I will post some pics as soon as I get home. Engadget doesn't even have pics of this, you will be the first to see it.

Where did you get it?
It doesn't seem to be listed on the powermat website.
Thanks
way badass, i can't wait til it's released.
I love powermats. I haven't had the priveledge of owning one yet, but i really want one.
What would be epic win is they release one that works with the Seidio 3500 battery. I would be so all over that.
The powermat seems to be really expensive and not worth the money right now..... maybe until it drops in price.... but still nice to see that they have something for the evo.
thats awesome how can I get me one of those?
can you do a side view? does that micro usb thing get in the way or is it annoying?
any pics of it on the phone?
Its not on the web site because its not released to the public yet, its going to be a couple months before it does. I will post some pics with it on my phone tomorrow morning. Unfortunately the micro plug does get in the way of an aftermarket case, as of now thats the only way to charge the battery, but, I do know they are testing a modified battery that has charging contacts on top of it to hopefully eliminate the micro usb dongle. Other than the dongle sticking from the bottom it is exactly the same profile as the factory back.

Glad to see that powermat is joining on.
I have LOVED using the palm touchstone chargers at home, work, and car.
One concern for me would be price. If the powermat is $100 and the case back is $40, that is tooo much for a singular setup IMO.
I recently got a powermat as a gift for my birthday. I've been waiting for an EVO door/case charging adapter. When does this come out and what is the price range going to be? I'm ready to buy one of these bad boys right now.
Released in the next month our two, can't release anymore info or photos, got my ass chewed for what I put here already. Sorry guys, will release more info and pics when I can.

Cool. The dongle is the only thing blocking the case? I was actually thinking the case might inhibit it from charging though. Maybe not?

good article, I still beat them to it....the dongle is a pain in the arse because aftermarket cases will not fit...i modded my body glove case with my dremel tool and it fits. right now thats the only way around. who knows maybe they will release their own case that fits with the adapter installed, just maybe.
does the "dongle" actually block the micro usb, or does it have a pass through?

If you can contact powermat, please let them know that their battery door needs a raised lip to protect the camera lens.
That small addition would make the product 89% better (the only reason I'm using a case right now is to protect the lens.)
Here's an example of what it may look like:

This, cant find on google anywhere...
I tried finding compatible devices that work with the Powermat & couldn't even find that.
I do know that several people have hacked their device to work with inductive charging but it takes some major surgery and skill to get it to work.
So as of yet I'd have to say "no'
I saw a powermat kind of thing at radioshack and it says on the box works with compatible devices or need "power discs" but no one can "find" a power disc in the system or even what they look like.
would REALLY love to get wireless charging and I don't mind a little surgery
I did find something called a Duracell myGrid Power Clip, but I would rather have a case so it is pretty much "seamless"
Search inductive charging. Its in or forum
He already got it up and running but definitely takes some skill

If you do this yourself you have to be very carefull, the components are a lot more cramped than most.

So I think it's finally time to get this going. I'm going to be taking apart and installing Touchstone wireless charging into my Hercules Galaxy S2. The parts are on order (I was going to do this with a PowerMat charger I had lying around but then I found out it's not compatible with the cheaper touchstone system so I ordered that instead). Should be getting pictures and guide (maybe video too) by the end of next weekend. Stay tuned.
This will be awesome!
Pretty cool thing.
Someone else did it with a touchstone dock. The microUSB port is kind of blocked, here but the kid who made it has another version of it, as well, with hidden cables and whatnot.

I saw that. The idea with this mod is to be similar to his Galaxy S mod that has the free USB port. I'm not a fan of wires sticking out. Should be getting the Touchstone gear tomorrow and then the foil on Friday (copper foil). I'll do a bigger write-up when it's complete including materials and directions. As far as I know, nobody has done this yet with the GSII, which is why I want to do this and kind of add on to what the other guy did but for this newest generation
This is gonna be awesome.
I nearly broke my Vibrant when I did that last year. I'm not going through that experience again.
On a bright note: I now know how to completely take it apart and piece it back together in 5 minutes.
very excited for this! looking forward to the results/write-up and maybe if i have the balls ill give it a go myself . Good luck.

Question, Could the TouchStone interfere with the NFC communications ?
had no idea there was no support for our phones on this, i'm definitely interested as i dont like plugging and unplugging my charger all the time It'd be even more awesome to intuitively convert this into a wireless car charger haha
What would be really awesome is if there was a way to not only have wireless charging but have like a 5 for radius for the charging as well that doesn't muck with the NFC

This was my first thought... would the induction field pump power into the NFC antennas and cause damage... but I'm not an engineer which is why I love the XDA community.
I dunno of it would mess with the NFC coil but I am thinking not unless it is "tunned" to the same frequency as the induction coil, them again on the other hand id that was true then we couldn't have our phones around ANY magnetic field. I would wager that the NFC coil may be grounded out already somehow, that is not to mention that it is "tunned" to a specific frequency as well...... justa thought

Induction Mod completed
I attempted the induction mod and was successful. I soldered a wire to the same pin as shown in the video for the Galaxy S. I need to clean it up with copper foil tape but it is functional. Putting the battery cover back is difficult because of the limited space between the battery and cover. I didn't take any pictures but if anyone has questions I would be happy to assist.
Can you take some pictures so that we can see and how snug was the battery cover? Does it interfere with the NFC?. Right now I an rocking the nexus extended battery and it's cramped to say the least
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA
My only camera is my phone so I can't take any pictures. I have not tried the NFC function on my phone but I think the coil may interfere. As far as the battery cover is concerned, there is not enough space if you are using a larger battery.
Dang, if you happen to acquire a digital camera I would love to see pics and how it was put together kinda like a how to

CURRENT DEVELOPMENT STAGE: 1- INDUCTIVE CASE RESEARCH, see #1
PLEASE KEEP AN EYE ON THIS POST (general updates) AND POST#3 (useful links and eventually tutorial)
:good:KEEP DISCUSSION AROUND THE FOLLOWING DESIGN INTENTIONS/ ABOVE DEVELOPMENT STAGE:good:
Design Intents are as follows:
1) A case for housing the inductive coil/wiring
This just requires compatible cases with necessary clearance for the inductive coil and wiring to the male micro usb. Cases with oversized bumpers would be best since they will keep drops from damaging the micro usb plug that will be sticking out of the bottom of the phone. This may not be ideal so if anyone is decent and making plastic molds maybe we could come up with an attachment to a case.
2)NO Hard wiring inside/to the phone
This involves using low profile male mirco USB type B connectors, like this, and mounting and wiring to the case. This will keep your plug always covered and keep you from trying to charge your phone with both inductive and regular usb to the wall/pc. The main design issue here is protecting the male connector to the phone. Suggest usb connectors, wiring, how to boost the amperage, does the palm pre coil protect from over voltage, etc.
3)A car kit.
I will start with my car, A nissan sentra SR, for the car kit. Others are encouraged to come up/share your solutions as well! This should be a hard wired solution using the palm pre/pixi round touchstone dock. Kind of like a dash mount. I think the magnet should hold the phone ok being that my car isn't one of the most powerful things on the planet but for you hot rodders out there keep that possible issue in mind.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Current Progress: CASEAlright I have the cases in hand! I got three of them in the mail and will be tearing these apart this weekend. The pucks (touchstone bases) should be here sometime next week.
I'm also looking at the following cases
Ballistic
Ballistic 2
Clear S Case
The ballistic I am hoping will give clearance for the micro usb. They will be a bit heavier though... we'll see.
I going to order 2 cases for starters, what should they be?

Regarding the thread, this would be hardware development which i believe belongs in the general section. As for the idea, it seems like as long as its not too bulky most users wouldn't mind if it extended battery life substantially like 24 hours or more. Could make you rich with over 9.million sgsIII owners. But Im pretty sure there are already many types of chargers on the market so unless i missed something perhaps you should submit this to a patent office so no one steals the idea or design. Just my two cents dinner no one else has posted. But ya not software development so I would move three thread before you get flamed too bad.

Just a thought.
What would be the charging time using touchstone/conductive charging; or in other words, what would be the output voltage/current provided to the phone. It takes a while on regular chargers to charge the phone compared to HTC phones.
haha I actually did this too my I500. Literally car kit and everything. Even had it play music through Bluetooth. except I hated cases on that phone so I hardwired it. looked so much sexier. But the case is easier. Built like that too just didn't have the car cradle

I would absolutely love to know how to integrate the "guts" of the battery cover with the needed parts into the e4gt innards to make the wireless charger .. but I'm not sure how yet.. :/ I will keep reading and post here if I get it working..
I assume that the physical connection is totally possible but the OS will most likely need to be able to control voltage and jazz so I'm not sure what would be needed for that part..

Lets do it!
I actually got the touchstone and pre back and ripped out the inductive charging circuit just for this (I actually got it for my evo, but I upgraded before I had the chance to follow the evo guide). I'm excited for this!
Anyway - some heads up - the E4GT is MUCH heavier and bigger than the pre. Don't expect it to stay firmly attached. It will stay okay, but you need a really thin back face of the case. You may also try replacing the thin magnets with thicker rare earths. I actually got it under the stock cover okay, and that worked decently, but no good way to attach it. That's where I quit (after thinking about soldering to the board, but not having a good place on the USB connector without taking the phone all of the way apart. I also didn't fins another point on the board to solder to (like the charging circuit), although I'm sure it's there somewhere.
Also, you need to mount the inductive charging circuit a little low because the phone is so long that it will hit the table and not mount properly if you put it in the middle. Furthermore, be ware that if you add a connector to the USB port, this will exacerbate this problem, perhaps to the point of requiring landscape or stronger magnets.
The USB connector you want are available at a number of places. Ebay has some cheap micro usb adapters (including right angle) that you might play with. If you just want the connector itself, it will likely be more expensive, but I suggest checking mouser or digikey.
Good luck! This will be AWESOME!

Also, while this will fit under your otterbox I don't know if it will actually charge it through it. Worth the $45 though!

This looks like a damn good price tbh. $68 for a receiver and charger is cheaper than any qi combo that I know of currently.
The bonus is that it's also Qi technology so even if you change your s3 out, you should be able to get another phone that has qi tech in it or even modify that charging pad to work on other electronic devices (with some copper tape/wire)

Thats exactly what i was thinking.. The odd fact that i just so happend to find this today and apparently it just went live today i am pretty excited to snag it at this price.
But As im sure the capabilities to wirelessly charge are inevitably going to be included in future phones it isnt like this tech is likely going to be easily replaced. And it also seems like Samsung is going to abandon using our phones tech as wireless charging.. or at least thats what i gathered from thsi article..
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2013/03/11/samsung_s4/
the thing w/ samsung and wireless charging is that they really have no idea who the hell they're really going to back. Yes, Samsung co-founded A4WP, but they're also member of Qi's group as well.
To me, it just looks like they're sitting on the fence and waiting to see who will come out as the standard before going all in. I also don't think Samsung will build it into the phone itself due to its current ambivalence on the 2 standards and most likely leave it open like the s3 and note 2.
While the article talks about a4wp having a few cm of range, he also did not mention that a newer revision of Qi offers up to 4cm of range as well (last I checked).
I don't care much for too much range for wireless charging, just enough so that any non-ferrous case will charge regardless of thickness. I have a Qi set and it has so far worked with the ballisitc SG (although it Can get picky, but that's due to the fact that I also modified the charger to be at a 45 degree angle and the case's bottom lip [on the hard plastic side] curved up a little for no reason)

So far, since my free time is limited, this seems like the best all in one solution that doesnt require me to change my case, and its a good price.

That was for Tenchuboy, not you.
He claimed he got a set that was cheaper and all that, so I asked a link so he can prove it. So far, complete silence from him.
OOOhhhhhhh....
i got it. i know i could make a set with the palm pixie stuff, i priced it out on amazon and total with a charging dock its like 20$... but i dont have the time to. im only actually home about 3 days a month. id rather be lazy..
Just an FYI i got my wireless charging kit from this company and it works great. Its a small device that attaches to the back of the stock battery. Its very small and it fits perfectly, very small buldge from the device but the back case fits on fine and my otterbox fits it perfectly.
the best part, it works with the stock otterbox. there were no issues with wireless charging whatsoever.
How is this one any different than any of the other wireless IQ receiver pads & chargers for the s3?

That it works with all variants, doesnt require you to change out your battery door, although they offer a solution for it, and its pad and reciever for 40$
