Hello, i'm here for a friend really. I don't have this phone, but he's wanting to root his Gio and I was wondering if there is a detailed guide in here on how to do so. I looked in the "Big thread for new users" thread, but i wasn't sure if it was in the correct order to get rooted, (my phone is the droid incredible 2 so it's really different lol) if it is, i'll let him know where to go.
thanks

hmm, we tried using that but he is on Gingerbread 2.3.4, this guide is for 2.3.3.
will he have to downgrade first?
No,this will work on all gingerbread ROMs for gio.
Sent from my GT-S5660 using Tapatalk 2
he tried it and after selecting update.zip in recovery it said "operation aborted'' or something to that effect.
do a simple google search wil help ... but now it's not rooted and the gio of ur friend wil stil startup right ?
edit : if after the aborted the phone is still normal just search for something like : root galaxy gio 2.3.4 gingerbread , and don't worry if it's going wrong there are alot of, restore/unbrick guide's (which are not needed bcz rooting is pretty safe )
oh yeah i know all about rooting and it's only harmful if you do it wrong. my phone is rooted^_^ i've been searching these forums pretty thoroughly, thanks for all your help though. good to know the other sections of XDA are just as helpful as my own.

I'm new to this forum so I have to go slow. I just bought this G2 to replace a HD2. It has the stock 2.2.1 Froyo rom. It is unlocked so I'm hoping I can fix it. Everything works ok except the bluetooth. When I try to turn it on the light just go dim then returns to bright and never turns on. I was wondering if anyone knows how to fix this?
Also I was reading that there is a new rom out, the leaked TMOUS G2 Gingerbread 2.13.531.5 and was looking for instructions on how to flash. I'm looking for some newbie instructions on how to flash.
Any help would be appreciated.
Well it could be your actual rom that might not let the bluetooth work so I think its a great idea to change it
Okay since your phone is unlocked I'm assuming its rooted...so ima post a clip that helped out on how to change roms some time ago just let me search for it

Ok the guy I got my phone said he just unlocked the phone with a code so I'm not sure if it is rooted?? any way to check?
hmmm well if he unlocked with a code then im pretty sure its not rooted, check if you have an app called superuser
if youre not rooted i suggest u to use the gfree method (search the forums) its probably the best
Yes I do have superuser in my apps.
ok ill send you a pm
Hi, I have tried rooting about 20 times (not even kidding), and almost every time it gets stuck on step #7. I have installed drivers from LG and have phone in debugging mode. (I tried doomlord, but it won't recognize my Nitro) Does anyone have any advice to help me root my Nitro?
*Mods, feel free to move this to the rooting section, it just wouldn't let me post in there*
Try rooting it the way they root the optimus. That's what I did and it worked fine.

Did you use the latest SuperOneClick 2.3.3 for rooting your device? I can confirm it works with LG LU6200...

If this isn't working for you, this should:

(its working in ADB mode, make sure your device is in USB debugging mode and connected to your PC)
Good luck!

Use SuperOneClick v.2.3.2 and not 2.3.3. The latest version don't want to root our Nitro. I can't understand why, but 2.3.2 version root very well.

Remove the SD card( or unmount it), i got the same problem here and it thats what worked
What worked for me was installing the Android SDK package.
I was hanging at step #7 as well and after installing the package it went through.

problems rooting too!
So this being my first post and all please dont freak. I searched as best I could to find the proper thread to ask this and this seemed like the best option. So here it goes.
I myself tried rooting my phone with Superoneclick and after numerous attempts I failed miserably. So I tried Doomlord's rooting method. I thought I had figured it out because at the end it said "OK!" and it even rebooted my phone but when I tried to DL Titanium backup and busybox it said it could not gain root access. My question is, first would it be safe to attempt the root process again, or if not any ideas on what I might have done wrong and maybe a solution to fix it?
Thanks again
P.S dear Mod if this was the inappropriate place to post this I apologize in advance.
i would download the superuser app and see if tibu finds root
also, there should be no prob running the rooting app again if you choose to, if you are rooted already it should return a *already rooted* message.
So I tried dl superuser and that did nothing. I even did a master reset maybe thinking that I might of changed a setting I want suppose to, and even that didn't work. Like I said I can't get SOC past step 7 and I've tried all the tips I read on here to get past that problem but nothing. Doomlords looks like it worked and it reboots my phone but still nothing. I would really truly appreciate any help!
thanks again

Apples and oranges. The two programs used to install custom recovery on the Aria utilize exploits in the HBOOT, which is something only HTC devices have.
What software version do you have on your device? (Look in Settings > About Phone > Software version)
I'm having the same situation. Everything I've read says that if you did the security update without root already then you can't root now. I would love for some one to prove me wrong and show me a way. IM running 2.3.5 v10j with kernel 2.6.35.11.

You have the recent update installed which makes it impossible to root the device. There are still methods to get the device rooted but it is not simple and basically involves this process: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1597488
I would urge you to make sure you know what you're doing before attempting this though.
I had the above problem with not being able to root my phone due to the software version i had. I had to use the "unbricking guide" and after some challenges i was able to restore the phone to stock with root. It is risky, but at this moment im not sure theres any other way to do it, unless someone with programming skills can find an alternate method to go back to a previous version of the software without resetting or unbricking the entire phone.
Hello every one.
Could someone help me please, since i am on 4.0.4, I have a bad reception (sorry i'm french). I have to go outside of my house to call and receive calls. It's a little bit laggy too. I didn't root or change anything.
I'm noob with nexus, i used to have a desire hd, galaxy s2 and a xperia play, and installing custom roms was easy. With nexus, i don't know what to change to have a good reception and a smooth system (kernel, radio etc)
Actually, i'd like to know if there's a rom who could make my phone smoother and stable. No overclock or things like that, just a stable system and a phone who would have a good network reception (i don't know the words for that, i mean that i'd like to call from my house not outside ^^)
I know my question is noobish, i'm sorry for that, but could someone help me?
Bye everyone and thanks in advance!
Yann
Go to general section and download the toolkit for Nexus everything you need its there.. Theres also a baseband (radio) section where you can download all kind of radio files CWM flasheables and fastboot flasheables, but be carefull if your english its limited... Dont do something you dont understand or you could brick your phone
First create a backup of your phone cuz unlocking the bootloader will wipe the phone then root it and install CWM, and then you are able to flash any kind of radios you like until you find whats Best for you and theres some tips to follow everytime you flash a new radio like wiping the cache and stuff.. You should read some before trying

@msedek, you should be doing a little more reading/testing yourself.
first, unlock bootloader (you'll need fastboot for this).you don't have to root to install cwm, neither to install kernels, basebands or bootloaders. you can do it the google way, which is using fastboot. don't go telling people that root/cwm is needed to do these things.
@op, do some reading. use a translator if you need to. read roms/kernels/bb/bootloaders threads's first posts fully at least twice, particularly the install instructions. at this stage, there's pretty much all the info you need.
and just so we're clear, it's pretty hard to brick a nexus. just be extra cautious when flashing bootloaders.

bs? a troll?.... i was correcting/adding to what you said.. using a toolkit is not the safest way. the safest way is to learn what that script does or doesn't, or by using the tools themselves.
and as to searching, it's one of the rules of xda. actually, it's the number ONE rule.

Hello everyone, I am newbie here. I've heard about XDA for a while now but never really looked into it since I didn't have an Andriod phone to mess around with until now. I know these questions may have been asked already a hundred times and I tried searching different threads but I still don't get it. Could someone take a few minutes of there time to answer them please I would highly appreciate it.
My questions are..
What is rooting exactly? like what do you gain from rooting a phone, is it really worth it to do so?
If I root my phone, I know it voids warranty, but can you safely unroot a phone once you have rooted it? ( I've read that you can, but just want to make sure.)
I want to install Ice Cream Sandwich. I know I should wait until the final version comes out but I'm a very impatient person, I want it now. lol Which is the best version to install and how do I go about doing that? (ROM's)
If I mess around with my phone rooting it and installing different roms. Can I always restore back to default/stock as if I never did anything to it to begin with? Or is there a chance that I could brick the phone indefinitely by doing this?
The phone I have is a T-Mobile SGH-T989 running Andriod 2.3.6
Thanks in advance everyone for taking the time to read my thread! I hope to hear your input!

Hello guys. As you can see I'm new here. I registered here because my friends and everyone I saw when I got my new phone is to root it man it's good and everything. I sad ok I will check how to root and everything. Everything sent me to this forum. I didn't saw anyone root a phone before so IDK anything about this so I need much help in a simple way / reply .
I have some questions first about rooting:
- Why is this good ? what + I will get from rooting my phone
- Rooting my phone will delete all my data from my phone / SD card ?
- On Xpreria Play will the controls and the " touch joystick " be harmed in some way ?
Ok now I searched on Google I found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312859 For me this is kinda complicated to much text XD. I would need something more simple for ex.
1) download this and this
2) check this and this.
something simple maybe with images or a video ( up to date )
Now for the phone data. If I can't root it simple and I have to downgrade don't bother explaining how to,
Phone: Sony Ericsson Xperia Play R800i
Android: 2.3.4
Kernel: 2.6.32.9-pref [email protected] #1
Build: 4.0.2.A.0.58
Thank you in advance
Most people root their phone to remove bloatware(unused useless apps) to free up memory and speed up their phone... And to install recovery...recovery will give u the ability to flash custom roms... Im not gonna get into how or whatever you can search yourself and fund out how...and it doesn't affect your sd card data or any data on the phone and it won't harm your phone
I downloaded DooMLoRD_v4_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su.zip and checked everything on the phone the debug and the unknown installed adb drivers and connected the phone. I clicked the runme pressed a key and when it finished the phone rebooted. But I think the phone isn't rooted. It doesn't have Superuser.
Here it is the log that I got in the runme. Help me how to solve this
Don't know mate... Can't see the pic is to small im on my phone but if it rooted it just download the superuser app from the market... If not try the other method superoneclick
A lot of the things failed it seems. I'm DEFINITELY no expert at all. I don't want to seem like i'm just showing off this thread or forcing it down someone's throat but maybe you could look at this thread from page 2 onwards:

I don't know what could be the error. Isn't there any simple method to root it ?
I don't know of any simpler method. Are you sure you've done all the steps? Extracted the zip to desktop? Allow unkown sources? Are you sure your phone is connected?
Try running the runme file as administrator?
Or as cippi said, try installing superuser and see if it works?
I only rooted very recently thanks to "LordBattleBeard" so don't really have vast knowledge

Lol as it turned out I had to use v3 dunno why but it worked well with the v3 v4 maybe for new something XD. Now the question is what rom should I use I heard that Cyanogen mod 9 is like ICS. But heard that it isn't working very well. Some suggestion ?
I can't really help on that front. I think gingerbread ROMs are better for gaming though
Sent from my R800i using xda app-developers app
xperia nxt rom OR dixperia 2 OR true ancestor OR ice cream pureness OR gin2jellybean AND much more great roms.
look in development forum and try to find them.
For gaming, i prefer dixperia 2 or xperia nxt.
But don't forget that for some of the roms like cm9 you have to unlock your bootloader
