I'm new to this forum so I have to go slow. I just bought this G2 to replace a HD2. It has the stock 2.2.1 Froyo rom. It is unlocked so I'm hoping I can fix it. Everything works ok except the bluetooth. When I try to turn it on the light just go dim then returns to bright and never turns on. I was wondering if anyone knows how to fix this?
Also I was reading that there is a new rom out, the leaked TMOUS G2 Gingerbread 2.13.531.5 and was looking for instructions on how to flash. I'm looking for some newbie instructions on how to flash.
Any help would be appreciated.
Well it could be your actual rom that might not let the bluetooth work so I think its a great idea to change it
Okay since your phone is unlocked I'm assuming its rooted...so ima post a clip that helped out on how to change roms some time ago just let me search for it

Ok the guy I got my phone said he just unlocked the phone with a code so I'm not sure if it is rooted?? any way to check?
hmmm well if he unlocked with a code then im pretty sure its not rooted, check if you have an app called superuser
if youre not rooted i suggest u to use the gfree method (search the forums) its probably the best
Yes I do have superuser in my apps.

why dont you try it? report back when bricked.
Used it on my Desire earlier today, worked great
Did it through Ubuntu though, but sure it works just as well in Windows with V3.1.
someone posted youtube video of it being flashed... not great quality though.. looks fairly simple

Just used it on an already rooted desire
Only used it to get rid of stock recovery for clockworkmod
Works absolutely fantastic on a macbook pro
Just run the file
Connect your phone to your computer and it does everything automatic, just let it run for a minute it'll tell you what's going on, you'll end up in the recovery of your choice
100 stars to the devs of this!!! i'd donate a whole frickin keg if i could

Any point to this post?
This is looking pretty sweet for those of us who wanted an automated process Can anyone tell me how unrooting would work for this, in anticipation of the official Froyo update from HTC?
Used this yesterday, worked like a charm.. 1 minute, one click.
Installed Official FroYo Sense ROM...
Using this method you no longer need a goldcard at all.
so this is easy way to root a phone?
I did it yesterday. Incredibly easy and straightforward once you have the android drivers installed.

can you explain?
Would this preserve the data on your phone/sd card?
Tried this loads of times. Just sits there telling me to plug the phone in and enable usb debugging!
There is a thread on this in the Dev. forum. It might be worth posting any issues you have in there.
You need to install HTC Sync, then uninstall it, leaving the drivers installed. Install the driver that is included in the download package, connect the phone then click! This is on win7.
I have used this method and rooted my Desire! Thanks for the info. I am now thinking of installing a custom image of 2.2 to try. I would like to backup settings and applications before I do this. Any tips on how to do this? Has anyone else done this successfully?
I tried it yesterday and it worked fine! All you have to do is plug your usb cable and start the application. After a few restarts, the phone is rooted. You don't lose any settings, and your ROM stays untouched. You also have ClockWorkMod recovery flashed and you're ready to flash any ROM!

any word on how to unroot?
Alright hey guys im new here.
But i really want to put a different rom on my slide. So i know in order to do that i need to be rooted. I cant figure out how to permently root it. Ive tried a ton of ways including the one on here and unlocker. i cant get it to work. The only way i can is by using universal androot. But thats just a soft root so i cant put a dif rom on it.
So im hoping some one can help me out. Someone that has actually done it on there slide would be awesome. Could you guys please give me a step by step on how you did it? Im kinda of a noob when it comes to this. Thanks guys
Btw right now i have the stock 2:1 froyo.
Do you have the 1.35 ota update installed? think the root method will be slightly different if you do.

so im pretty confused and i want to make sure i don't screw this thing up. i've tried using all the newest rom builds and everything works perfect except for my mobile web and tethering
i rooted my g2 from some tutorial from the web which i believe uses visionary. in case anyone wants to see what i did - hxxp://g2hacks.com/g2-hacks/how-to-root-g2-phone (not affiliated). in my defense i didn't know anything about xda..
i'm actually pretty confused and i fear i may need to unroot and reroot since i don't recall using rage and that seems to be THE method. like i said, everything seems to be working ok including making/receiving phone calls, just not the mobile web.
I guess my questions are this:
1. any idea why my mobile web doesn't work?
2. should i unroot and reroot using the newer rage method regardless of the answer to #2 (is it necessary?)
thanks in advance to anyone who can help.
Okay well I never used rage I used the very 1st method of rooting and s-off. I had that issue with some roms but it was data/singnal lost. If flashing a new rom won't fix it I think you
Should flash PC10IMG that will restore you to stock rom that came with the phone. The thread is called remove prem root. Hopefully it will fix it. Sorry if am not to much of a help.

I lost my pone and sprint sent me a new one with ver 2.3 installed. i have searched all over for help...even on this forum and all ive found was dead links,
heres what i want.. if someone could just point me on how to get back 2.2 that would be great.
if not, then how can i get this version rooted?
please explain thoroughly because this stuff is confusing to me.,
I am also in this boat. I decided a week to late to root my phone and now I'm on 2.3. I had been on the fence, therefore I haven't been coming to xda very much so i didn't know about the warning not to accept the update. Sigh

there's no way to root 2.3.3 yet. Sadly, this video doesnt work
there is no way to root...there have been SEVERAL threads stating this! also there is no way to downgrade on your own....you would have to bring it into a sprint store to do so

Since the update went ota the devs have been working on this. It won't take long.
Sent from my SPH-P100 using XDA Premium App
They can't do it at the sprint store either. If it is s-on with 2.3. They have the same RUU that we do and it does not work.
You can't root or downgrade the OTA yet, so for now, you have to just wait.

Nope, not yet for the Evo. Unrevoked will make a new version, once they get root, and you'll know, because it'll be plastered all over the forums.
Hi, I have tried rooting about 20 times (not even kidding), and almost every time it gets stuck on step #7. I have installed drivers from LG and have phone in debugging mode. (I tried doomlord, but it won't recognize my Nitro) Does anyone have any advice to help me root my Nitro?
*Mods, feel free to move this to the rooting section, it just wouldn't let me post in there*
Try rooting it the way they root the optimus. That's what I did and it worked fine.

Did you use the latest SuperOneClick 2.3.3 for rooting your device? I can confirm it works with LG LU6200...

If this isn't working for you, this should:

(its working in ADB mode, make sure your device is in USB debugging mode and connected to your PC)
Good luck!

Use SuperOneClick v.2.3.2 and not 2.3.3. The latest version don't want to root our Nitro. I can't understand why, but 2.3.2 version root very well.

Remove the SD card( or unmount it), i got the same problem here and it thats what worked
What worked for me was installing the Android SDK package.
I was hanging at step #7 as well and after installing the package it went through.

problems rooting too!
So this being my first post and all please dont freak. I searched as best I could to find the proper thread to ask this and this seemed like the best option. So here it goes.
I myself tried rooting my phone with Superoneclick and after numerous attempts I failed miserably. So I tried Doomlord's rooting method. I thought I had figured it out because at the end it said "OK!" and it even rebooted my phone but when I tried to DL Titanium backup and busybox it said it could not gain root access. My question is, first would it be safe to attempt the root process again, or if not any ideas on what I might have done wrong and maybe a solution to fix it?
Thanks again
P.S dear Mod if this was the inappropriate place to post this I apologize in advance.
i would download the superuser app and see if tibu finds root
also, there should be no prob running the rooting app again if you choose to, if you are rooted already it should return a *already rooted* message.
So I tried dl superuser and that did nothing. I even did a master reset maybe thinking that I might of changed a setting I want suppose to, and even that didn't work. Like I said I can't get SOC past step 7 and I've tried all the tips I read on here to get past that problem but nothing. Doomlords looks like it worked and it reboots my phone but still nothing. I would really truly appreciate any help!
thanks again

Apples and oranges. The two programs used to install custom recovery on the Aria utilize exploits in the HBOOT, which is something only HTC devices have.
What software version do you have on your device? (Look in Settings > About Phone > Software version)
I'm having the same situation. Everything I've read says that if you did the security update without root already then you can't root now. I would love for some one to prove me wrong and show me a way. IM running 2.3.5 v10j with kernel 2.6.35.11.

You have the recent update installed which makes it impossible to root the device. There are still methods to get the device rooted but it is not simple and basically involves this process: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1597488
I would urge you to make sure you know what you're doing before attempting this though.
I had the above problem with not being able to root my phone due to the software version i had. I had to use the "unbricking guide" and after some challenges i was able to restore the phone to stock with root. It is risky, but at this moment im not sure theres any other way to do it, unless someone with programming skills can find an alternate method to go back to a previous version of the software without resetting or unbricking the entire phone.
