Hello,
I'm having a, most probably, hardware issue with my GSM Galaxy Nexus. At the bottom of the screen, there's a thin green line that shows pretty much at any given point, when the screen is turned on. Here's the picture of it:

There are some known issues with white pixels being displayed as green (due to the PenTile matrix?) at the edges of the screen. For me, most notably, while using the FBreader app.
But this is not the case here - It shows itself at all times, even on the 'Google' splash screen during boot.
While displaying full screen content, like YouTube clips, in place of the green line, there is a line of pixels showing the content, but with very high contrast and warped colors.
Overall, the screen has no other issues.
If anyone has experience with it, is there a way to fix it, outside of warranty return?
Additional info:
It is the GSM version of GNex. I run AOKP build 5 currently with their default CPU/GPU settings. As far as I can recall, the issue started a month or two after the purchase. It seemed to come and go, and now is permanent.
Thanks for any help, ironhalik.
Update: After flashing stock image, jzo54k from Google, the issue is still there.
Yeah, that's a hardware problem if it shows up whenever the screen is on.
Seems pretty hardware related, Idk about you but I love messing with the software of a phone, but I rather just use warranty for hardware stuff..
Gud luck

I had it too, sended it to Samsung, they replaced the screen under warranty. Took 8 days. Received a much better screen, white was much better with low brightness. Very satisfied with the service.

Anybody else having screen quality issues? First one(left) had a blueish tint and even though color representation is correct on the replacement, it has banding issues that are really noticeable when the backlight is low, so hopefully I have better luck with the 3rd.
Both phones are set to full brightness

I made a similar thread a while ago: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1295438
Long story short, I returned it, got one that was slightly better (less overall streaks, but one bigger one in the corner) but that overheated constantly. So I swapped that one, and this one is perfect. Not a spot on it, it looks as even as an LCD.

Same here indeed. I see it as more of a grayer color but the banding is very visible, especially in Tapatalk.

Same here, I had some gradient streaks especially in the notification curtain with low light etc....bad display. Returned mine and the new one is perfect. I guess some are just better than others but definitely a defect.

Noticed a white fading band at the top of my camera image. Here is a screen grab where u can see what I'm taking about. It fades son its hard to tell if its even all the way across as some sort of UI design or if its my camera being faulty/ shifted out of position . Any thoughts?

Wow. I see it. Took me awhile to figure it out. My phone has the same thing. It might be normal or a theme thing. Lets see what other people have to say.
Javiggan
I have this as well, it seems more pronounced when viewed on the phone but when you look at the screengrab on the pc, you can barely notice it.
Also i tried taking a picture of what was in the viewfinder and the picture comes out as pure black, with no fading band. I'm assuming this is a software issue rather than a faulty camera or bad camera placement.
Have you noticed when you take a picture in low light and then click on the thumbnail on the right and start moving the screen around the edges of the photo go all weird ?
I also have this, I think this is just a frame around camera app.

Image is quite self explanatory.
Today was traveling and using a phone as always and got a phone call - and apparently the screen was like this.
Anyone experienced this, or managed to replace the display (price?) especially in Poland?
Phone bought in 2011.01.03, so it died 5 months after warranty expiration
Symptoms:
White lines that are vertical in portrait mode.
They do not rotate on screen position change.
Yet they start from black and fade in from black to the random brightness after a while if the creen is used (otherwise they dim out).
All other phone features work - for example I was able to answer the call swiping a finger as usual
Battery pull - the issue perists.
Debugging disabled, and I wait for screen from SlimRom to get the idea what parts of the sceen to press to:
1. unlock sim card
2. unlock pattern lock
3. enable developer mode (or start Airdoid or adb)
Thanks in advance for any info, topic will be updated later on.
I'm wondering about first wipig the phone and then fixind the screen.
Also thinking about getting some replacement (sth like nexus 4 but with external sd, or very beefy internal).
If the problem persists when in bootloder mode or recovery its going to be a hardware fault, and almost for sure you need to replace LCD, second mostly likely the main flex cable.
Know nothing about Poland but the repair should take 20 min for the experienced and an hour for a novice

The problem was with the display, not the tape. More info to come.
How much cost a new display in germany?
no idea, I'm not from Germany.
I had downgraded back to KitKat and had it setup exactly like I wanted it and had been using it for a few weeks. All of a sudden my screen would become washed out. Kind of like it was stuck in reading mode or something like that. Sometimes it will correct itself on it's own or if I enable then disable grayscale mode. If that doesn't work, then I have to reboot. After being locked for a few minutes though, it gets washed out again. I decided to go back to Lollipop to see if that fixed it but it's still happening.
What could be causing it have washed out colors?
Can you screenshot what you're talking about? And why would you want to be on KitKat?
Do you have the adaptive display enable?, is the rgb sensor blocked?
John.
I was going to try and get a screenshot but it hasn't done it again. Anyway, I just traded it for a gaming laptop today so doesn't really matter much anymore. Thanks for the replies though!
So, I got my tablet back and I have some screenshots of the issue available. Hopefully you'll be able to see what I talking about.

I believe it's hardware related. I was holding it at the bottom right corner when it got the green tint. Grabbing the bottom right and top left corners and bending slightly on the back of it causes the green tint. Bending on the front reverses the green tint. Loose connection, a short, or failing screen altogether?
EDIT: I looked at those screenshots while my screen is normal and I can't see the green tint, so this is really weird!
So I recently started to notice a vertical line (or lines) on some screens. This normally happens in dark gray-ish backgrounds which are used in many apps as night mode or loading screens.

This is also the place where the see through part of the case begins, when it's closed. The reason I say this is because the case that came with the phone works very weirdly - it does nothing when I close the flap normally, but when I fold it behind the phone it will lock the screen and go into "case mode".
My friend has the same phone and says his works normally, I'll try to get my hands on his phone / case to do some more experiments..
I understand that I should exchange the phone but given that it isn't even sold in my country and there isn't any stock left at the moment, I want to try to solve this if possible.
Has anyone here got the same issue ? Or any experience with such an issue ?
I used to have similar things, only worse, on my older amoleds (Motorola was pretty bad ) but I thought this has since been fixed - just checked my pixel and there are no lines or spots ..

My comparison with mate 9 pro and pixel XL :
I've highlighted the lines that are visible to me with my eyes (not thought the camera) I understand that camera shows a lot of blemishes on all screens but there are clear lines on Huaweis and nothing on the pixel when I look at it .
Bonus galaxy s7:
Also perfect when not looking through the camera ...
Edit: I should also add that this 'defect' is much more noticeable on the PD, even though I can see some lines on the Pro I wouldn't have noticed them through normal use, I think .
