I use my device to download a lot of anime, movies and series. I download these large files with opera mobile, as the stock browser and chrome won't even download them properly. I notice that when I leave opera with the downloads running in the background, the Os auto kills opera for me and the download shows up as failed. I'm wondering if anyone else has the same problem and found a solution?

I had the same problem with Firefox trying to download large ROMs on a slow Wifi connection while I was travelling. However I've only had this issue on AOSP ROMs, what kind of ROM are you using?
I just recently posted about my multitasking problems here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957439
Have you looked into a torrent client for your phone. I've downloaded a few movies(on WiFi) with no problems, even with the screen off. Mind you the phone won't go into a deep sleep but that's to be expected. I use tTorrent from the play store. That's if the movies you download are torrents.

I believe torrent clients see designed to stay running into the background. The opera mobile isn't, it keeps closing even when I'm downloading something. I don't wish to use torrents because the stuff that I download are all direct downloads. Not everything is available in torrents and torrents use a lot more bandwidth since you need to upload at the same time too.

What do you guys think the best browser is? The stock browser is good but one problem I found is that you can't download some files, like rar.
Firefox is another good browser in been using but it doesn't have flash player, which is a huge bummer.
What do you guys use, and why?
Hi,
I use skyfire 4.0 , just because it is straight forward
Others like Dolphin HD. personally i dont as when you scroll left or right a menu pops up - could be deactivated i guess !!. Dolphin also has gestures which is a great feature

Thumbs up for Samsung Browser.

I have used opera mini and didn't like it, skyfire was good but stopped me downloading anything like apk's etc for some reason.
Now using dolphin and think its great
I use dolphin hd. Used it across 3 generations of android
Phones and still love it.
I would deffinately say dolphin browser is the best.

It has to be the stock browser for me, does what I need it to and the only one which gives iPhone level smoothness on browsing on android.

Dolphin mini for me. Streamlined version with all the bloat removed, everything just works in it and its blazingly fast.

Dam ..How did this one slip through the net lol
Very useful app dude..
i use dolphin as it lets me take off the notification bar, when i view video.
For me Opera Mobile wins. Full screen, extremely fast, super smooth scrolling, nice interface. Also, Opera always reflows the text, when using pinch to zoom, which the other browsers don't.
Boat Browser, not popular but really rocks
Stock browser works great. Only thing is I have to use opera mini for some websites.
Mini dolphin is pretty good also. I personally don't like dolphin hd.

LOL HILARITY ENSUES! For a while I've been wondering if this was possible and man, only because I'm interested in the SGS 2 I wandered in here and found this solution!
Thanks a lot!
Miren Browser. As fast as Dolphin Mini but with more features and less ugly than Dolphin HD. All the above mentioned just uses the phone's browser engine to render anyways so performance should be the same as stock more or less.
Use Opera Mobile occasionally because it's even faster than stock, but some pages don't render correctly and/or links fail.
Only use Firefox when none of the above work correctly with a website.
Do you have a cab file for that browser? Would like to try it, but can't find it in the Android market.

I've noticed that when you click on a you tube video or link in chrome it takes you to the YouTube mobile site instead of the YouTube app like the stock browser. Does anyone know a work around for this?

I think a lot of people have noticed that:
1 - Chrome will always us a mobile site if on is available, and the user agent cannot be changed.
2 - Chrome does not appear to be able to launch apps from links...

That could change with future updates as well. Never know, its just a beta.
I've also noticed chrome doesn't give the option to push to desktop view like the stock does. Overall, I like the speed and features of the chrome.
workaround

I really don't care for the stock internet browser on the phone. I tried out of opera and not really impressed either. So what is everybody else using? Thanks

I use Chrome now. I used to use Dolphin Browser which is good too.

I usually use Chrome. I used to use a browser called Maxthon Browser, it had good gesture support for opening/closing new tabs and such. There is also Firefox, but I don't use it unless I absolutely have to. It used to be extremely slow (regardless of device or ROM) but it seems that the newer versions are running more quickly, though it has some interesting features such as the ability to save a web page as a PDF and use of addons. There are plenty of other browsers out there. These are just the ones I have installed on my phone at the moment. I would suggest installing a few and then playing around with them to see if they are what you like.

I used UC browser. Not too bad overall.
Right now i'm using dolphin browser beta. I tried to use chrome but it constantly crashed and I didn't like the fact it would run in the background when i backed out of the app.

Was it just cached or was it actively running?
Chrome or Dolphin. Both have worked well for me on this device.
I use Maxthon too, but only on my non-rooted Kindle Fire.
Have you tried boat browser? Quite happy with that one.

I'm guessing activately running. I would swipe away all the tabs to close them, but when I press the back button to exit out the app then go to the task manager, It was in the active applications.
Sorry guys I tried the guide about installing flash player but it still doesn't seem to be working. The video and play button will actually show but when I try to play the video it either won't buffer/buffers forever or try to play an ad, but fail (won't even load).
Please forgive any inconvenience this causes anybody. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Simply download and install using this link.
http://download.macromedia.com/pub/...roid/11.1.115.48/install_flash_player_ics.apk
It says ics but i confirm this works on jelly bean.
Yes, that's the one I've been trying. I download it, open ES file explorer, locate and install it, yet I can't watch videos other than YouTube (which I never had a problem with in the first place).
Edit: Sometimes it seems as if it really wants to play 'cus the buffer symbol will kind of skip and speed up, but continues buffering forever.
Also, I'm using the default browser, but have also tried boat/boat mini, opera, dolphin, and dolphin jetpack if that counts.
And this might be the issue: I'm trying to watch the videos on animefreak.tv and justdubs.tv. I'm not sure if those types are supported, but they did say they needed flash player 10.1+
Thanks again for your time.
Another edit: Just tried a different video player on the anime freak.TV site and it worked flawlessy, so I suppose it's safe to assume the others are just obsolete or something?

What rom you're running? Browser? Desktop mode or android mode (user agent)? Which flash player do you have
For flash to work you need to use another browser other than stock or chrome, example Boat Browser.
In your app drawer you should have flash settings, open it using boat browser then simply close the tab. Open a new one with flash and give it a shot, it should work ok.

The people's ROM gs3 and as I've said I tried the default browser, boat AND boat mini, opera and dolphin with flash player 10.1 and 11+.
I'm still messing with it here and there but still only the specific video player on animefreak.TV will work. Not including YouTube of course. And I tried desktop view and otherwise with all that had the option (boat, default, dolphin but dolphin keeps flash off always regardless, so...)

What the heck! Does anyone have a fix for not being able to download a full file from that site? I've tried 4 browsers already and the Jedi ROM won't finish downloading.
Keep trying different mirrors or try "desktop view" should work if that doesn't the way I got darthstalker to download after trying 6 times was using dolphin browser saving it to my sd card and download it I noticed my connection was dropping on wifi so I played a YouTube movie to keep connection going. Download was then successful
