Csc modem radio - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Could someone please explain to me what is csc modem radio? And why are there so many options in custom rooms to Flash different radio modem etc?
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium

CSC and the modem are two different things, the CSC is just a bunch of files which dictate what region/carrier, CPW is car phone warehouse, whereas VOD would be Vodafone for example.
The modem files you can find dotted around control how your device uses the radio hardware, 3G, Wi-Fi etc...

There isn't a "best radio" as such, you basically try them out and choose the best one that works the best for you, it's dependant on a number of factors, what battery drain you get from it, how song the signal is, does it give the best throughput when using a data connection.
Someone may get a totally different result than you using the same modem, if they use a different provider etc...

Flashing new radio on unlocked phone

Hello, my T-mobile SGS3 is (factory) unlocked and I use it with another entirely different carrier.
Is it safe to flash the new UGLV1 radio??
Thanks
Very doubtful!
There are a number of people that had problems when flashing radios on other carriers. Particularly with the T999V.
What carrier are you with? What is your phone model? And what is its current baseband?

I think it is still a SGH-T999. The baseband is T999UVLEM
You msy be able to use the other radios then. Depends on your carrier. UVLEM works so others should as well.
If not you can always flash back to original.

Hi,
Are u talking about fm radio? Does galaxy s3 support it?
It would be really cool to have an fm radio which would not require an internet...

I live in Brazil and my carrier is Vivo. I bought the phone from Amazon while I was in the US and it came unlocked.
I am very afraid to flash the new radio... Isn't my UVLEM modified to be unlocked? If not, what is modified, then? What is different in my phone from other SGH-T999s that makes it unlocked?

Flashing a radio will not re-lock your device. Stick to radios that have T999 in their name - the others won't work and could potentially brick your device.
Thanks for the help, flashed with no problems.
Check out the modem flasher tool on the dev section. Makes it very easy to test and find the best radio for your phone and area.

Verizon jellywiz on t999

Im sure some one else is running this on our phone.I flashed it and has given me pretty good batery life. jb stock roms we have are great but I had to try this.apn was a bit difficult to set after that all good
Ummm...... what?

So just curious u were able to flash a Verizon rom on your tmobile s3. Didn't have to change anything besides the apn?

That's what it appears he is saying.

Wouldn't be too surprising really. Aside from slightly different radios, aren't all the US variants (canadian too) virtually identical hardware-wise? It would stand to reason that they would carry the same partition layouts as well.
Though I wouldn't go flashing away without verification of that!

My thoughts at least, I flashed a few at&t roms with no issues besides build.prop stuff. I'm with you on not flashing things though lol.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Yes the baseband stayd the same .I was pretty excited been using it for a week.battery life is good screen is on top of the list then system.so far beside using hiapn for apn settings it has been really stable one or two reeboots that I can remember from restoring youtube a delete and market install fixed that.
How did you bypass the verizon network verification?or did it not say registering on the verizon network? I have flashed many Att, Sprint, and verizon roms, but most(if not all) of the verizon roms have a built in verifyer for their specific network.

The perfect MODEM

How can I find the best Modem for me without flashing them one by one?
My zone is Spain and Movistar.
Simple answer : You can't.
They're just like ROMs in the sense that you won't know exactly how it works until you try it.
Kidcarter is right. You cant, it due to your location, your mobile operator, your band etc..
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Perfect is one which comes packed with rom, unless you are having any network issue. In such case you should first try latest one from country you are living.

I tried the MC3 today. After installing I was able to pick up a weak signal but as soon as I walked around the house the signal dropped. At the office i had a better signal using the old modem vs MC3. I think I will try the one for t mobile. Thxs

Bajanman,
You saved me several hours. I will download the older ATT modems and see if that works.
I tried one of the old modems and got the same results. I continue to get varying degrees of signal strength. I saw some people saying this could be a hardware issue , any ideas.

Bajanman,
I tried all the modems available for ATT with the same results. I have a very weak signal especially indoors and depending on where I am it improves. What kind of hardware problem do you expect to be the problem? Is there any way to check this?
Thxs

[Q] No service at work. Any help?

Ive noticed since I moved offices, that in my office building I get absolutely no service whatsoever. And there is no wifi password available to use wifi via my phone. So today as I was leaving work and finally got service again, I had 12 missed calls, 5 texts, and 3 voicemails. Is there a better modem to flash that can help? Thanks!
Not exactly. Different locations have different best modems. You just have to try them and see.

Could anyone suggest an updated modem, or one they have had luck with if they are from the Chicago-land area?
You could check the map in the modem thread too. I know its a jumbled mess now, but the info can still be useful.

Do you think you could message me about what modem/radio might work better once that forum is sorted out? It really sucks not being able to use my phone at work for 8 hours. Thanks
I may not be able to unfortunately. I messed around a little before and got nowhere. May have to start a new map.
Have you checked T-Mobiles coverage map yet? There just may not be a signal there in the first place.

I never had a problem with my Blaze there. Even at home with the S3 I get maybe 2 bars. Which leads me to believe its the modem. On my Blaze I had an updated modem that made data very fast.
Can I use UVLI6 which is a 4.1.1 modem on a 4.1.2 rom I am currently using? Would that be compatible? i cant remember which way compatibility goes :/
Any modem, any rom, any build. Only make sure you use the right models modems, which it sounds like you are

You can use any modem version as long as it's specifically for your phone.

This is just strange... in roughly a year of doing this I think you're the first to report that happening. 4.0.4 and 4.1.1 modems have always worked on 4.1.2, and any other combo has worked as well. There are people who still use the LH2 (ics) modem because it still performs better than any other for them.
I think you may have been seeing it function normally though. When idle, its supposed to drop to UMTS to save power and bandwidth. If you check while a transfer is occurring you will see it change to HSPAP.

Has anyone else found another modem that they now use that gives them better signal/data speeds for their Tmobile T999? My work building is a complete dead zone for Tmobile, so I am hoping flashing another modem works. Otherwise, im not sure what else I can do.
I have to refer you to my initial response here. A modem that gives better speed and signal for me, might be one of the worst for you.
Just something to consider, you probably could test 2-3 different ones each day at work. Maybe more. If your main issue is signal, then flash, check service, if none then flash another right away. I could probably flash 5 different ones on a 15 min break if I was only looking for improved signal. Might be a better way than waiting for someone to tell you what worked for them, then testing only that the next day. Its your phone and your time though, so its your call. Just tryin to help
