Possible Keyboard fix! - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

First is it possible to update through recovery using a previous update if your already past that one?
I have the keyboard glitch due to a bad ota update, i need the version whos keyboard auto corrects still. If someone could please upload that, i would love to flash it and then reflash JB so i have a working keyboard again. After the LI3 update that i got ota, my keyboard broke =/ no auto correct or anything after trying everything. Someone please give me a link to the OTA LI3 update. or tell me if its even possible to update to a previous one..

Also what exactly will happen if i do update the same update i already have? Just reinstall it?

Yes, it will just reinstall the ROM but it will also reinstall all System Apps which in turn will reinstall the keyboard making this process useless.

But you see, its somwthing within the system causing the auto correct to malfunction. Only a batch of people received the bad li3 update, which means if we find someone who uploaded the good one, then we could flash that to the correct deeper system settings that factory reset and jb aparently didnt touch. Or if anything find a lg8 upload and then flash that and then to li3 and if thats works then just jb after. But I dont think anyone has any links for the lg8 ota or li3 =(

hopefully the official updates from google i posted help..

Yes but u would have to install root which would mean that all u would need to do is take the keyboard apk from a good OTA and overwrite keyboard in sysyem/app on current rom. Wouldn't need to reinstall ROM and would be useless anyways because like I said, it would overwrite all system apps anyways.

So unfortunately guys, i try installing the old updates but each says aborting due to issue in some zip file.. any input? And like I was trying to say, its not samsung keyboard. Its something effecting all auto corrections. If it was just Samsung keyboard then swypes auto correct would work while tapping

Am I crazy for trying this?
Last night I tried to install a note 2 keyboard on my friends Sprint S3. (Same one I put on my AT&T S3 worked fine on my phone) Well it did not work and now im stuck at Android apps updating. Well I made a back up of the rom and went ahead and installed AXIS M. My question is if I reinstall the stock rom make a back up and replace the system.ext4.win from the good back up of the stock rom to the corrupt backup of the stock rom what are the chances I can reinstall the corrupt backup with the new sys file copied in place do you think it will work? Good grief, hopefully this makes sense...Thanks in Advance...

Q: How to install Updates?

My Wife's GS2 is rooted and she has been getting a Tmobile OTA recently (I assume this might be ICS). When she goes to install the update, it goes straight to CWM upon reboot. I did a quick glance at the first few pages in the boards for an answer but did not quite find what I was looking for or I may have overlooked it. Can someone point me in the right direction on how to get this update.
Would I need to unroot her phone? Or is there something I needed to do once it goes into CWM recovery? Any help would be nice.
Thanks.
First, it's not ics it's the prequel for ics. Tmo is only releasing ics via Kies. Second, if she wants stock ics there's a couple ways to do it. First is dl the ota update then Kies ics. Second way is find the ics img and odin it to your phone (you'll have to find it...it's somewhere on the board). Or third, flash an ics modem, then flash a custom ics rom.
Or, your other option is keep the phone the way it is and turn off the update. Instructions are in this sticky: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420065

If you upate over kies you will loose root priviledges, ill say just download any custom ICS with a ICS radio...

Jb 4.1

To start I am a newb
I Have a galaxy nexus with the 4.1 Jelly Beans ( not stock, installed via ROM from here xda). That's fine. This week a new "system" update was available for my phone. So I downloaded it and the phone reboot, when the phone starts it goes to the cwm recovery screen saying the update failed. I would like to have some HELP, I found other threads, but I really don't want to do anything worng.
My questions:
How can i get the updates to work again?
DO i need to get ICS back to update the phone?
How should i do it?
Can I do that without losing my data ( would be great, but i am ok if there is no way)
I am just afraid if i go back to ICS, and the update don't show up.

Everything must must be bone stock to install an ota.
Jellin' like a felon
The issue at hand here is that you have a custom recovery. I can't say that if you remove CWM that you'll be able to OTA update, but that's at least what was the problem there. Now, if you want to keep all your apps and update to the OTA jelly bean instead of the Google I/O preview build, you can flash this here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1737849
Follow the instructions on that post to update. This is what I did and it worked perfectly.
Camera not working after JB update!
Hi! I recently installed JB on my Dad's Galaxy Nexus, whilst everything seems to work fine, I've noticed that the camera has stopped working. The screen goes blank if i access the camera. I've tried installing 3rd party applications for camera, but none of them work! Please help me! Is it a hardware or a software fault?

But going to factory reset will not remove the cwm recovery... right? If i go to factory data reset on my phone ( remember i am using a 4.1 rom) will it go back to ics and delete all roms / root? Cause this sounds like the best way to do it, but you were the first one that said that. Bought my phone from Amazon unlocked ( do you guys think it is gonna update?)
I did that, no help! I think it's a hardware fault. Thanks anyway!

PLZ, tell me!! If I do the factory reset is it gonna remove CWM, and all stuff i have installed?
You said you downloaded your ROM from here, but you didn't say which one. There was at least one (Koush's) that was an image of the stock ROM, taken from the OTA update that went out to the phones given out at Google I/O. If you have that ROM (and the corresponding radio), you can just use CWM to install the OTA update. I know this works because I did it myself.
If you really have one of the custom ROMs, your only choice is to return to stock if you want the official OTA. And yes, this will remove CWM and wipe your entire phone (including anything in /sdcard)... so backup anything you want to keep before you try this. See efrant's excellent guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626895

Sorry man, I know i am not giving a lot of information, but that's cause i really don't know. I did a random "how to update your galaxy nexus to 4.1" tutorial, and i don't even remember where...... I just know the links i download were from here.
So what i am going to do:
1: Factory data reset
2: I think it's going back to ICS
3: Just do the normal system update that should just pop up.
My only fear is if the phone does not ask for update.
If you restore to stock using efrant's guide, it will be ICS since Google has not yet posted Jelly Bean firmware images. If you don't get the OTA notification or don't want to wait for it, you can just download and apply it manually (see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1419170)

No, that will just wipe data. You'll have a clean phone, but with the same ROM you currently have. The phone doesn't keep a copy of the stock firmware hidden away or anything like that. Efrant's guide is the proper way to restore everything back to stock.

Question before I update...

Have never updated via kies before. I am currently on the ics leak rooted and have removed system apps. In order to update do I need to flash back to stock or can I update from kies without doing anything. Usually I just go for it and update, but wanna be careful this time cause I have no backup phone anymore
Sent from my SGH-I927 using xda premium
I'd like to know this, too. But not if the official ROM has the same bugs as the leak did.
so kies will not let me upgrade having the leaked firmware on it. says the phone cannot update via kies.
U have to be on STOCK everything b4 any program will let u update anything. Its precations so that u can't blame the company... and were not supposed to get leaks.

In order to update OTA you must have a stock rom with all the original apps, plus the stock recovery.
Also, there should be an update to JB in the next few weeks.

I'm gonna guess and say the Jellybean update is gonna be 4.1.1 and not 4.1.2.
Man dont bother updating to li3. It sucks. Countless peoples auto corrects no longer work and theres barely any changes. They installed swype into the phones in the li3 but you cannot use it at all.. its glitchy

No doubt, I wish I hadnt updated to li3, The Swype keyboard is not nearly as good as the Swype Beta keyboard and the " Smilies" key doesnt work half the time! Wait for the next update!
Any idea on when the next update might come? I've just been hearing this month. It used to be all over my flipboard, now I hardly see anything about a s3 update. Didn't now if Samsung is pushing it further now like when it was rumored that we would get JB back in August.

I just installed using the apk.. and set to default in settings.
I tried it with stock 4.1.2 and it threw an error up, 'file with same name already exists'...
Still playing with that one.
edit: works with stock 4.1.2 (flash the zip)..It took a couple of reboots
To show up. Could have been my fault though, I uninstalled all the keyboards
With titanium backup, then flashed the zip.

So far I'm digging it. I've always been a little on the fence with swipe style keyboards on tablets because I have a tendency to tilt the tablet in a weird way. I'm going to force myself to use this for a while to see how things go. Thanks for the link!
Edit- I will say this... as somebody who likes to switch between swipe and standard typing, having both on the same keyboard is pretty much awesome.
Edit again- not to be a Debbie downer but I hope the final version has better prediction... Swift key still takes the cake from what I'm seeing. Perhaps in time with using it, it'll learn...after all, this keyboard learns as you type, no?
Example if I type "hibhello" sometimes it thinks that's what I meant. Other times "hi hello" is listed off to the side in the predictions list and not primary like it should be.

Dumb question - Google claims the current 4.2 keyboard is not finalized yet. I'm on Android 4.1.2, rooted, and installed the .zip through recovery mode.
When my official OTA 4.2 update comes down, will it thereby automagically replace my pre-released 4.2 keyboard with the finalized 4.2 keyboard? I'd assume yes, but I'd rather ask than not know. :good:

A couple things.
First, if you intend to just flash the OTA update (either through the updater app or recovery) it will fail. This is because the update is a bunch of patches, and the first step it does is verify the checksum of many files - including all the ones it intends to patch. If it is looking for the 4.1.x keyboard apk and it's been replaced with the 4.1.2 keyboard, it will fail the checksum verification and abort. So, depending on how stock your system is, you may have to revert it back first OR just download and flash the full 4.1.2 image (easier).
The patch method will not work, but the full image install will - and yes it will 'upgrade' you to the full and released version.

I just wanted to make sure that if I get the OTA update that whatever keyboard I'm using is the new "final" keyboard and not the "as of October 30th" keyboard.

NP. I'm fairly stock too, outside of being rooted, custom kernel and custom recovery. I'll probably install the beta keyboard tonight.
So if I attempt the OTA patch, it will fail as well, unless I restore *everything* to stock (outside of root). It's easier to just download the full image from Google, apply it via fastboot, and re-install recovery/root/kernel afterwards.
