I keep on getting Error 7 when I flash new Cyanogenmod, Paranoid Android, and Liquid Smooth roms. I really want to have one of these as a backup to flash at anytime. I prefer the Serenity 1.2 rom, but that's another backup to flash too. My S3 thinks it is an AT&T S3 now all of a sudden too.

Hi everyone!
Please be gentle as this is new for me for a phone, not new here on xda just spent time on the Galaxy Tab 10.1 forums, just new to the T mobile SG2. I just picked this excellent phone yesterday and have already rooted it. I have the tab 10.1 running task's ROM with perhoot's kernel and flashing ROM etc is pretty straight forward since it isn't with a carrier, just WiFi. I currently have Android 2.3.6 and want to flash a ROM, I am back and forth between Bombaridier V.3.5 and CyanogenMod 7 Self-Kang #2 Alphafied 2.3.7 or any other one that someone would recommend?
Since I have never owned an Android phone only the tab 10.1 I have some question and I did search but am still confused and dont want to screw up.
1. If I am on 2.3.6 can I flash one that says 2.3.7?
2. I am on t mobile, so the one I flash needs to be in the Android development on the T Mobile forum located here?
3 any other thing I need to do so I don't lose the base band of the phone (i guess that is what they call it) as my wife has an iPhone and I keep seeing instructions for preserving base band?
3. Anything I missed that I need to know about?
All I really really appreciate the help and guidance just want to get on a custom ROM as I love it on my tab 10.1, thanks again everyone!!!

Welcome!
1. You can flash from 2.3.6 to 2.3.7 no problem.
2. Any ROM that is in this specific subforum will work. Do NOT flash anything for any other Galaxy S II, it may brick your phone.
3. Basebands are not included in roms, so you will not lose it, unless you flash a new modem.
Just remember to always perform a full wipe, I recommend the Darkside Super Wipe. You can backup your apps with Titanium Backup.
Hope this helps!

Look into TDJ's superwipe in the rom section. I do that between flashes since it keeps things clean.
An example is that before it came out, i had 1.8 gigs used on my rom partition, and after using it and installing all the same apps with data(restoring with titanium) and having the phone rebuilt to the same state with another samsung based rom, it was only 1.1 used. Lots of junk gets left behind here and there.
You can also flash AT&T Skyrocket ROMs, Kernels, Radio Modems, Recoveries, and Odin's.
Hello all, I hope I won't get too much flak for creating this thread but I'm hoping to save some time and effort if some of you are willing to help me out here.
My buddy had asked me recently if I could help him use his phone as a hotspot when he goes on vacation, and I suggested that he install a custom rom to get that function since for some reason a Sprint rep told him he couldn't do it (not sure on the whole story with that...).
Anyway, I'm not really a newbie on rooting/flashing as I have an older Galaxy S1 device that I constantly work on, but on the other hand that's about the only device I have experience with.
My questions are:
1) Is rooting/installing a custom rom the best way for him to use his phone as a hotspot? It seems to be built into every rom that I've had on my device.
2) What are the most popular (and stable) roms available for this device? I'm asking because I won't see him enough to flash updates and he's not really the type to do that.
3) Are there any serious risks to rooting/flashing this device? I'm spoiled with my older Galaxy S1 phone that has no problem going from rom to rom like it was it's job. He'll probably be upgrading soon, but I still don't want to break it.
Thanks for any input. Oh and I don't know if this matters, but I'm almost positive he's on stock ICS right now.
1. The hotspot app won't work on stock because he needs the plan with sprint to use it. There are 3rd party apps out there that can use your phone as a hotspot. Most roms have the wifi hotspot check disabled so you can use the app the rom came with. Be warned if sprint catches you tethering too much data they could cut you off.
2. Maybe look into the blu kuban rom. It's very stable, awesome battery life, and looks awesome. It also has a built in updater in case there is an update.
3. If you read the instructions you should be fine. There's really no downside besides the emmc brick bug which can render your phone useless but most (if not all) kernels have this patched. Also remember that this phone has the recovery image packed with the kernel.
Hope this helps.

If you install stock/rooted gb27 jb you can use the EmperorX 4g hot spot mod.
Look up Emperor X in apps and themes, its not too complex to get working.

The blu kuban rom looks good, but I didn't see any JB roms that looked all that great (feel free to correct me) and I see that Cyanogenmod doesn't officially support this device for some reason. Are there any mostly stable 4.1 or 4.2 roms that you would recommend or is ICS the way to go?
edit: I wasn't looking in the 'original development' forum and just noticed there's a lot of good 4.2 roms that I'm used to like slim, AOKP, etc, now my question is if I wanted to flash a new rom is it the same as I do on my phone- wipe data/cache/davlik then flash rom/gapps and reboot? Is it that simple on this phone too?

If you have CWM 5 (gb or cm9) or CWM 6 (AOSP-based jellybean) you can just flash rom and gapps in recovery
If you do not have CWM 5 or 6 (anything touchwiz ICS+), you should use Mobile Odin or (less conveniently) PC Odin to flash the EL26+cwm kernel, then boot to recovery by holding vol+ and power. You can flash anything in EL26 recovery without incident
ok, so im not new to android mods, rom flashing, kernel flashing or any of that jazz...
ive had many android devices over the years and will continue to have more as long as android doesnt flop.. but i doubt that happening
my issue is this, i have a bone stock TW rooted i317m on 4.1.2, it has been unlocked using the perso sha method, and has been modified to work with wind mobile in ontario via the .qcn file flash method... the device is operating just fine, no problems...
what i want from this device is customization and the question im asking hopefully will be answered with respect and NO newb bashing or ignorance
this is my first note based device... i fell in love with all the TW features that relate to the s-pen and best photo/best face.. i want to install custom rom, and kernel, but im afraid im going to lose all the feature that i bought the note for...
i know about the apps "CM S-Pen detection add-on" & "S-Pen Helper"
but i dont want to lose most importantly the camera features, and id like to still be able to use s-note and such, but im not sure if this is possible unless using a TW stock rom
any ideas??
there are tw based roms like clean rom, best international (using this one)
if you flash a aosp rom all the tw stuff is gone!
I personally dont use half the tw stuff so i might flash an aosp rom soon just for fun. But I have a galaxy nexus to play around with as well
ok so i flashed clean rom,
now my next question
is there a sphere mode camera mod available,
i really miss this from my galaxy nexus when it was running PA3+, i busted the lcd and glass,
got my note 2 now, and would love to see this come to it

Clean rom is real good if you just want a debloated version of stock. Real fast and stable. It was my daily driver for a while.
I am really into all the customization so I am running JEDI and NOVELLA now. Both are TW based and have a ton of MODs out for it.
As for the camera 4.2 is good too
Guys i just recently became a proud owner of a Galaxy note 2 AT&T edition and so far i love the phone. It's been unlocked and rooted with a cleanrom ACE 4.7.0 and i wanted to know have they released a proper app2sd patch for it?How to update cleanrom? And also is cleanrom the best rom for note2 because i've been having some lag issues in some of the softwares and was wondering would the stock rom be better?I know i'm talking like a noob but that's coz i am,I have no idea where to search for this stuff on this expansive forum so please help me
Well if you want to search, google is a good place to start.
AFAIK there isn't a app2sd patch for this device.
To update cr you just need to go to Scott's roms webpages and download the updated version, transfer to your sd card, boot in recovery and flash. Make sure to read the op in the thread for recommended wiping instructions.
As far as the "best" rom, it's all about personal preference. I prefer cr over all others because I want a stock experience with out the bloat and add some goodies. But you'll get a hundred different people saying that xyz rom is the best for abc reasons.
Lag can be caused by a number of things... It can be apps open or processes hanging. Usually a clean install of your rom will clear it up. If it persist than try another TW rom. If you still see it then try an AOSP or AOKP rom. It's all about finding what works best for you.

So I've done some searching in the forum (on phone) and wondered if anyone else is having an issue flashing roms other than stock rooted.
I've tried all kinds of other roms cm, miui, liquid smooth, et cetera, and they all get stuck at boot. This is a new thing because I've run all these roms in the past.
I'm on moar 6.1 and it's a great Rom, but I'd like the option to change roms at some point...
You are naming AOSP roms. If you have a newest S3, please try with an updated version. Start with SlimBean build 2( exactly that one) because it's confirmed to work with newest models.

Dude....it wasn't the ROM's fault at all, nor the phone's....it was the loose nut behind the wheel....me.
I forgot (have been forgetting) to format data. For whatever reason, I was manually formatting just the minimums. DANGIT! Works like a charm now...or rather I'm working like a charm now.
Thanks anyway.
