I've been going all around the forum not being able to figure out what ROMS and kernels will work with T999v Wind version of the S3. I bricked my phone once already by installing the wrong kernel, so I don't wanna mess around again too much without knowing what roms and kernels are working. I've read around that we can flash T-mobile roms as long as they don't contain radio files. I also read on another thread that as long as the boot, modem and amss files aren't in the rom, we're good to go. Now I'm pretty new to the Android community so I'd like some help before I have another disaster on my hands.
Thanks.
*Disclaimer: I am not a Wind user so don't quote me on this but...
I don't believe any of the custom roms in the T Mobile dev forum come with radios. Except for the stock images made to flash with Odin. The main thing to remember as far as kernels go, if you flash a touchwiz rom you need a touchwiz (or stock) kernel. If you flash an AOSP rom you need an AOSP kernel or you will be stuck in a bootloop.
BTW, this rom has been confirmed working on Wind Mobile.
Thanks. Now I had a question about kernels. They still need to be for the T-Mobile version of the phone right? As long as that's true I shouldn't really have a problem using the kernel?
Sent from my SGH-T999V using xda app-developers app
Yes, I believe you will be fine with any T Mobile specific kernels. Still, the important thing before flashing anything is to make sure you make a backup just in case.
That rom will work fine.

I'm on a Wind GS3 and I'm currently using FreeGS3 R5 with Trinity Alpha 19 kernel. Works great.
edit: Just updated to R6, still great.
Are there any Galaxy Gio GT-S5660M (Canadian) ROMs currently in development? Arpeggiomod is a nice rom, but I hate Gingerbread. To add, ny stock ROM is faster than Arpeggiomod. I know I probably can't do any better, but I still have a good 2 years left of my phone contract and I want my Gio to be fast, fluid and responsive. I have tried ROMs for other models of the Gio, but they either don't work or they don't appeal to me. Getting to the point, I was wondering if anyone would be up to the challenge and develop a ROM specifically for GT-S5660M. Can someone help me start and learn to develop a ROM? It'd be really appreciated.
any rom that is not flashed by ODIN but in recovery can be used, the only thing is that it isnt called a s5660m model anymore, but every hardware works.

Please, only say "every hardware works" when you ACTUALLY HAVE an GT-S5660M.
OR at least understand what the thread-opener wants to say, before just throwing vague and meaningless stuff around.
The thread-opener (and for the novices in general) can withdraw nothing useful from your post that concretely will help him flashing his S5660M without causing some major problems to GT S5660M (for example the radio).

and there's nothing wrong about this sentence, as its just the truth.
Radio is different, indeed, but the radio does not get overwritten within the .zip file that is flashed via custom recovery. only in odin-flashable .tar.md5 files theres a file called 'Amss" wich is the actual radio file, and is different between S5660 and S5660M models.
however, these files are only for odin, and can not be flashed in recovery.
so, my point is just right.
as long as you don't flash roms with ODIN, nothing can happen, as it does not overwrite the radio files, as I already said before. roms via recovery don't flash anything that is different with the S5660 or S5660M.
maybe you are the novice-wich-doesn't-understand here. you are the one throwing vague and meaningless stuff around. you should consider aquiring some more knowledge before talking like that.

Hey there, I have a 5660m (5 of them!) and have flashed many a rom. Arpegio was great for its time, I believe darkshado created it (Guessing, its been a while). However, there are soooo many great roms out for this device now. As previously stated, and 100% agreed with, if you have recovery installed, you can use the 5660 roms too. A year ago, when I got mine, there was a modem differential. However that has been explained in the above posts. I can think of several that I prefer but am hesitant to state any one. I started with cy4noobs, then moved to McClaw's ICS (I hope I'm giving proper cedit to dev's), MIUI is a unique interface, there are so many. I'm pretty sure there is a list of roms that will work......gimme a sec.....http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1535320. I've been through almost everyone of these (i'm a flasher, in the legal sense :laugh. Some may seem outdated but still work well, make sure you look through the dates, and the logs to make sure you have the functionality you wish to achieve. Happy flashing!:victory:

You mentioned that most ROMs work - I've tried Maclaw's AOSP ICS and each version or update (Beta 1, Beta 2, Beta 3 and RC1) fails to work. By work I mean that it flashes properly and boot properly but it freezes on the lock screen for a moment then a screen saying 'Encryption Failed' appears and asks me to factory reset the phone with a button below. The button clicks but doesn't do anything and when I manually factory reset via recovery, the same screen appears after boot!

About a month ago I had a Samsung Galaxy SIII Model # SPH-L710. I had little to no problem flashing a custom rom onto it by rooting the phone, installing TWRP, and installing the zip file from the Cyanogenmod Website. Very simple and painless. That phone however ended up breaking so I had to get a new one of the exact same model.
Now, I've been having a world of trouble with this one. To start when I tried to flash the ZIP file in TWRP, it would give me a status 7 error, I was able to remove that by updating my md4 baseband using the md4 baseband flashable zip which was mentioned in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2303308
Once I did that the status 7 error went away, but now it's saying it cannot find the md5 file regardless of what custom rom I'm trying to install, it does say the install was successful, but all the log shows is that it couldn't find md5 file and then Successfully created partition tables and when rebooting the phone it gets stuck on the splash screen (though it IS the splash screen of the custom rom I was trying to install).
When trying to use CWM it says that it cannot even mount the SD card to install and ZIP file so I could not go very far with it and besides, the last time I did this I used TWRP just fine.
Any insight would be great.
Thank you!

Also being a new device you will only be able to flash TW roms until there is a work around for the current block...which i do believe devs are working on as we speak. Good Luck.

TW roms? You mean Touchwiz? If so, I've tried Googling and can't seem to find a solid answer or source of what's stable, what I can use with the Sprint S3 and so on .

Tried all 4 provided .imgs without no success and tried the odin versions which gave me the same results. Seems like this has to do with it just being a new phone. I am able to gain root access, mount storage devices in twrp (but not CWM) but just can't seem to install CM nightly or stable. Just says its updating partition settings and thats it. Also says the same thing with AOKP roms.
CM and AOKP are all aosp style roms. They at this time will not work on a new S3.
Like stated only TouchWiz roms will work. There are literally dozens of them. Googling won't help as much as going directly to the forum for Sprint S3 d2spr development section here on XDA. Do not attempt to flash any rom TW or AOSP if you did not get it from that specific section on XDA you risk turning your device into a 600$ paperweight.

I hope someone can help me. I have the boost mobile version of the galaxy s3 L710 and I was told I can only use sprint custom roms to flash on my device but when I do they don't seen to work properly. Data ect. I again was told I need to make some changes to my device and I can't seem to find out what these changes are. Any help?

Thanks for the info I will surely try one out once I have the time(sometime tonight)
From what I'm reading there are no TW mods based off of 4.2.2? And I'm assuming that to get an aosp style rom to work will just be a matter of waiting on the devs? Thanks again

THANK YOU! Latest Nightly worked and I'm back in action!
Hi, i searched everywhere in the AT&T section for a MIUI rom but only found a few which were stopped and had no new updates.
However i read somewhere on the forums here that you can use some n7105 roms in a i317 Note 2 Phone.
My question is, can i use the n7105 MIUI rom which was ported just 2 days ago?
If i cant, can someone point me in the right direction on using a newer version on MIUI on my Note 2 i317?
Thank you.
EDIT: I went ahead and installed the N7105 version but the phone wouldnt get past the XIOMI logo. I restored my phone back to the latest version found in the AT&T section 3.6.28.
Does anyone know how to get the n7105 version working? it was posted on the official MIUI forums 2 days ago and its the only version i have found that is n7105.
Or has anyone been able to install a newer version of MIUI? since it looks like the AT&T version has been discontinued.
The rom is fine ...but the kernel is likely putting you into a bootloop...
You may want to add another one in during the flash process that is compatible ...
I'd test neak kernel ....although not rated as compatible it may just work ...
And of course ...flash at your own risk ...and backup everything before hand ...g

Awesome, thanks for the reply.
Just to be sure, can i flash the kernel right after i flash the rom? or do i have to replace the boot.img inside the rom?
Edit: I tried flashing the neak kernel after the n7105 Rom but I got a black screen after the Samsung logo. I then tried other kernels (k.k.o, soa, and perseus) but they kept me in the miui logo. When I tried to change the boot.img manually into the zip I got a failed error when trying to flash the Rom.
If anyone can get a newer version of miui v5 to work on I317 note 2 please let me know how.
Thank You.
UPDATE: Anyone out there wanting to install the latest MIUI V5 into their Note 2 i317, i have found a way to do it.
For the past few days i have been on a hunt for a version that works with my phone and this is what i found.
Thanks to jing95916 who ported MIUI v5 to n7105, i went ahead and installed his latest port today a few people have problems with WIFI not turning on, but this is what i did.
After installing v 3.9.27 MIUI i let it boot, noticed wifi didnt work, but i remembered someone mentioning that it could be the kernel so i flashed SOA_4412_Kernel_06 found in the AT&T section under the MIUI 3.6.8 thread on post #1. Everything seems to be working perfectly so far, phone calls, SMS, wifi. Though there is one thing i noticed, on that when you flip screens it leaves behind a trail right on the Dock, it goes away when you switch to settings but comes back unless you have a transition effect that doesnt overlap the dock like the crossfade one. Other than that everything else seems to be working fine. I will continue to test the rom and see if i can find any other problems, but for now im very happy thnx to jing95916 port!

The problem i had was a different version, the one ported by jing95916 works perfectly in my i317 note 2 even though his port is for n7105. So everything is all good now, pretty happy to be using the latest MIUI rom.
Hello every one,
I see many of us own the sprint device and use it on freedompop network and so like to compile a list of custom rom's that can be used on this device.
So if you are using custom rom's on freedompop device, plesae share it. Thank you

I have never tried a CM ROM. But stock based 5.x should work fine. Backup with a nandroid and try a CM ROM. The Freedompop provisioning should not be touched.
I have a freedompop branded galaxy s3 and have tried a few roms from here. They've all worked: spirit, carbon rom, and slimkat. Wound up staying on spirit for now. Tried to flash CM11 but it didn't seem to work with or like the recovery I had at the time and I didn't feel like switching it out just to try CM (think it was a status 7 error or something). Haven't tried any 5.x roms but the main thing you'll want to reinstall after flashing is the freedompop messaging app. That's the main thing you need to make calls, and it should be compatible with lollipop.
