Restoring of Nandroid Backup doesn't work - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I also had that bootloop error because of the faulty Google Play Store. So I did a nandroid backup and tried a few things to get rid of the bootloop.
This method was successful for me, so I restored my backup and followed the instructions again. Everything worked and I could boot flawlessly. But here's the thing: Everything's kinda messed up now! First of all, the home button doesn't work anymore! Also, some restored apps are crashing and some aren't there at all. My homescreen wasn't restored either, it's like I did a factory reset.
Any ideas what might have gone wrong?
Here's the exact steps what I did:
1. Flashed sandvolds ROM (default settings + updated mms setting).
2. Restored my backup.
3. Deleted all files with "vending" in it with adb (from sd-ext and system).
4. Copied the fixed Play Store in /system/app
5. Restarted.

No one knows?

[Q] Leedroid 2.4.1 freezing pre-boot - any way to fix or access user data?

***IT HAPPENED A SECOND TIME. THIS TIME I WAS ABLE TO FIX IT BY CLEARING CACHE/DALVIK CACHE AND FLASHING A NEWER VERSION OF THE THE SAME ROM***
Hi guys,
I recently bought a Desire and loaded LeeDroid on a week later. Everything's been fine, until today, when I shut-down my phone and went to turn it back on, and it froze at the Telstra (telco who I bought it from) splash screen.
Here's what I did:
- Power + Vol- + trackball, which resulted in it restarting and freezing at the same point (15 minutes wait)
- Pulled battery and booted into recovery
- NAND Backup using AmonRA
- Restored original (pre-LeeDroid) NAND backup, and rebooted, which resulted in phone freezing at the same point
- Shut down, removed SD Card, wiped using AmonRA, restored original (pre-LeeDroid) NAND backup, which enabled it to boot properly
- Restarted and flashed Leedroid Rom from ZIP, which worked fine.
- Restored today's NAND backup, which of course brought everything back to square one.
Can anyone tell me if it's possible to access any of the contacts/SMS/etc? I was planning to back-up tonight as I'd put a whole heap of stuff in today, so of course this arvo was when it had to die. That and there's some stuff I'd really like to have that I'm not sure the relevant apps have stored on the SD.
And how can I ensure a clean restore? Run Telstra's RUU, then install LeeDroid as per instructions?
(EDIT) I notice that the NAND backups consist of a bunch of .img files. I imagine that data.img might have what I'm looking for in it. I've tried searching for a way to explore the contents, but I'm still trying to get unyaffs running...
Reflash or wipe cache and dalvik cache and reflash.

So you're suggesting I do the following?
- Restore freezing NAND backup
- Wipe Cache + Dalvik Cache
- Reflash LeeDroid from zip
Are the contacts all google contacts? If so you can recover those that way.
When you signed in for the first time after flashing the rom, while linking your google account, did you check "backup this phone to google servers"? If so, that should restore things if you wipe all and reflash the rom.
I used this option for the first time, and my wallpaper, shortcuts, alarm settings and SMS all restored after 5 minutes or so.
Unfortunately not. I didn't make the same mistake this time though >_>
Even so, I'm still hoping I might be able to pull some of the stuff out of the NAND backup.
Do you know if it's possible to fake/bypass the md5? If I can swap the data.img from the busted backup to a working one (the one before I put all my contacts in etc) then I should be able to access something.
Unfortunately that brings up an error, and I imagine the checksum is what's doing it.

[Q] Insufficient storage error

I have looked at all the other related threads but they are not helping me.
Situation;
I installed a custom rom...had issues so i used Rom Manger and used recovery. Used Titanium backup to reinstall aps.
After a while (day later)Rom Manger became unresponsive so I uninstalled it. When I went to re-install the error came up of insufficient storage.
Phone was back to a happy rooted state so I figured I would also uninstall Titanium Backup. Same error when I tried to install it.
However after that I tried other apps and all other apps from the market will install including Rom Toolbox.
I have rebooted. Removed all trace's(so I think) of Rom Manager and Titanium Backup, rebooted and tried again but same error.
Ive deleted market apps and reinstalled them with no issues.
Im sure Ive missing somthing simple but im weary to start messing to much without some advice.
Hope you guys can point me in a good direction.
Can you screen shot the error?
I would recommend the following:
1) go into settings, apps, and clear market data/cache
reboot and try again. If that doesn't work
2) Fix permissions and try again.
Solution found
Found the solution and all is installed and working.
1. Manual find and clear dalvik-cache
2. Find and delete .odex file of the app you are trying to re-install. Only seemed to be an issue with [root]apps.

I must be doing it wrong - Titanium Backup Pro

I am having fits trying to use Titanium Backup Pro (TBP) on my Samsung Galaxy S3 (i747). After installing a new ROM and preforming a TBP restore I always have two problems. First my wifi and 4G(LTE) fail to connect. Second, I can no longer install apps in Google Play store from my desktop PC. Before I do a TBP restore both these problem do not exist. What am I doing wrong?
First I will walk through my process of installing a new ROM.
Place ROMS & GAPPS in the root directory. I put them there because it is quick and easy to find.
Backup my current ROM using ROM Manager Premium v5.0.3.1.
Backup all my apps, folders, and settings with TBP...I think. I choose the Backup all user apps + system data option.
Here is where some of the confusion is for me. Which backup option should I chose in TBP?
I have tried both Backup all user apps and Backup all user apps + system data.
Or should I choose another option?
Does TBP backup all my folders I created on my homescreen and other screens?
Does TBP backup all my WiFi connections and passwords?
Does TBP backup information pertaining to Google Play?
Does TBP backup all my widgets on my homescreens?
Does TBP backup the wallpaper currently in use on the phone?
After all the backups I boot into Recovery mode using ClockworkMod 6.0.1.2.
Once inside CwM Recovery I select wipe data/factory reset, wipe partition cache, wipe dalvik cache, and wipe battery stats.
Next I install the ROM and GAPPS. After they both successfully install I reboot the phone.
Finally I go through the setup process to complete the new ROM install.
I have tried both letting Google Play restore all my apps and stopped Google Play from restoring my apps.
At this point my WiFi and 4G(LTE) are working fine. Plus I able able to install appsin Google Play from my desktop PC.
Now I preform a TBP restore. I have tried both Restore all apps with data and Restore missing apps + all system data.
Once the restore is done TBP recommends I reboot, which I do.
Sometimes the phone will get stuck in a boot loop. So I have to pull the battery and reboot. Sometime the phone will get stuck in boot loop and the only way to get out of it is to reinstall the ROM and GAPPS.
After the TBP reboot I notice my WiFi and 4G(LTE) are not working as well as installing apps from my desktop PC.
I hope you guys can help figure out what is going on.
Thanks,
-Sonny
Only thing I can say is never restore system apps. I always use TB and have never had an issue.

+1 to this. Never restore any system apps.
The only system data I restore is clock and contacts storage.

Abnormal Reset

Hi,
I've followed THIS guide to root my HTC 10 and it worked fine ... until I did something stupid , well to be fair, it's the first time I tried the encryption feature.
I've enabled encryption on my SD card, and then removed the default keyboard ... long story short, I restored a backup that I took following an optional step6 in the guide:
"Run TWRP in read only mode, do a backup"
Now, when I remove system apps using titanium backup, they come back after reboot, and I get this notification "this phone just recovered from an abnormal reset"
S is still ON, and Factory reset didn't work, what can I do? I don't have any info or data on the phone/sdcard and a complete wipe is ok.
Thanks.
Flashed janjan rom and everything seems to be ok now.

Titanium Backup do not start

Hi guys, I would like to save my Apps and associated data using the Titanium BU.
I unlocked the Bootloader, installed TWRP 3.3.1-0924 (unoff.) and Magisk 19.2.
Device is: RN8P, MIUI Global 11.0.3 Stable, 11.0..3.0 (PGGEUXM)
Problem: I can install the Titanium App v8.04 or the v7 version. When the TitaniumBU trying to start, and there is some long error message (approx. 2 pages) that all list only Java errors.
Unfortunately, I have not tried the Titanium before (without TWRP and Magisk Root).
Now, I can not say whether it worked before this modification.
Question: Is there any Java settings in the MIUI settings. I didn't find anything in Settings / Developer mode. Maybe someone can help me. I just want to back up my data and the apps with Titanium. On my old Samsung it made a perfect job.
Thanks
regards wa2ld
I downloaded Titanium Backup from play store seemed to work perfectly fine for me.
I had trouble getting titanium backup to install from my backed up apk's but as JuanM2020 said, from the play store works fine. Only issue I have is I've noticed some apps fail to restore with titanium backup on my rn8pro, just hangs, doesn't matter which settings I change. Maybe 10% of my apps have to be manually installed from the play store and then I can restore "data only".
I did not have any issue installing Titanium backup I grabbed from apkmirror, latest version available.
Gave it root and done.
Tbh I had been looking in that solution to backup my apps due to TWRP issues with work profiles (second space) which I am using, and so far none of the apps I tried to backup and restore worked. It backed up the Apk yes (but I dont care about that I have backup of those already) but not once I could make a backup of the app data (well yes I made the backup) more precisely could not restore those apps userdatas. Simple thing I wanted to have my login passwords saved so it could be restore without having to retype them.
Whatsapp, telegram, protonmail and some others, restoration of userdata failed all times.
Still have not found any solution to backup and restore apps and their associated datas from both profiles. Fails on both.
It is likely working for some apps, but certainly not for the app I need it to work. Too bad for me.
Speaking of which is there a way to only backup OS settings alone (without all the apps) for like walpapers, colors, default apps, per app settings like notifications and such?
Thanks.
