Is this an error? The box says quadcore 1.6
Edit: Never mind, somebody said its because the radio is Qualcomm.. can anyone confirm thats the reason?
My Note 2 has the same sticker, but it reports 4 cores in the CPU information of Quadrant.
Qualcomm doesnt just make cpus

Hi ,
Although many people believe that defy uses OMAP 3630 instead of 3610/3615 or something else, you can only get this conclusion from the 3D/video performance or features defy supported. But the problem is, can you be sure?
I wrote a small native C program and read out the value of CPU's register that controls the OMAP FEATURE. The value is 0xC00. You can check the 36xx TRM:
at focus.ti.com/pdfs/wtbu/SWPU177B_FinalEPDF_12_04_2009.pdf
The values means that defy has a IVA 2.2 accellerator 2.2 and SGX .
So the CPU is neither 3610 nor 3615 . It is definitely 3630-800.
I think this is a convincing proof. If you still dont believe it, the only way is to open your defy and take a look at the ID on the chip...
BTW: I only tested on my phone, which is UK 2.21 version. Not sure for other version....

The kernel boot message also tells me that defy has a 3630 cpu .so i can confirmed it has the 3630 cpu.
in youtube i saw one video of a review of the Defy and he said that he plays smoothly 720p videos and has show one 720p video on the defy
Is it possible ?
I am not sure. Can someone post a video sample? By saying "720P" , what is the coding format? Maybe someone can post a 720P video sample recorded by MS2.

ME525 aka Chinese Version of MB525 which running froyo build can play 720p.
SGX 535 - rly?
btw. did you notice, the ti document has 3630 pages!!! this must be a sign that the defy has a 3630! just kiddin... this is good news!

haha I agree!!!
@reasly: could you please explain what your program exactly does? i understand it as a tool which reads out a special hardware register (the one which stands für the iva2.2 module according to the ti document) and returns a value. the value 0xC00 means module existent and something like 0x000 means module not existent. am i understanding it correctly?
TRM does not list such CPU as 3610, it mentions 3611 as most limited by features. As 36xx are produced for big corporations like Moto, we can't be sure what's really going on with CPU naming. It looks more like marketing stuff for me.
I also got [email protected] for Defy bough at T-Mobile USA. It does not directly confirm that the CPU is 3630. It just reports that such features as IVA or SGX are not disabled.
Motorola can say the CPU is 3610 (whatever) with those features enabled ;-)
my point exactly! its just names & marketing mumbo jumbo. the important thing is the enabled AND ACCESSABLE features. and with th iva2.2 module working there is a good possibility to enable 720p encoding/decoding on the device, which would be important for me.

720p (1280x720) is too high a resolution for the Defy (854x480). You would be wasting space/resources to display a scaled-down video.
Consider converting a 720p video to a more useful format for your device
Unless ofcourse you just want to see it, 'because it can be done'.
I took a look at the technical reference (page 193 of 3630..lol!) in the CONTROL_FEATURE_OMAP_STATUS register description.
The value 0xC00 translates to 0000 1100 0000 0000, that is NO IVA hardware acceleration and 128K L2 cache, if I'm right.
Where did you get those info's about it being the 3630??
You should give that program to a droid X user to run on its phone...

Zorro was here, and he is using a DEFY.
still the same problem... we need to successfully confirm what processor have our phone...
I tried to install Sprinkle from the Tegra Zone application, but I'm denied saying I need a Tegra device. Umm... this occurring to anyone else on the Epic 4G Touch?
Thanks!

There are going to be/are Tegra 2 versions of the Samsung Galaxy S II however the processor that is on the Sprint Phones is not that. It is a better processor.
No idea if it works on this derivative of the SGS2 (though I see no reason why it wouldn't) Chainfire's 3D thing makes Tegra2 stuff work on the Exynos. The Exynos is a far superior chip and ****s Tegra2 games quite easily.
Chainfire 3D FTMFW
Install Chainfire 3D =)
https://market.android.com/details?id=eu.chainfire.cf3d&feature=search_result
After installing Chainfire (and then installing the driver) I still get denied by the Terga app. Is there something else that needs to be done? Or do I need the beta driver from the paid version?
on http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2010 it states that the 8S has 1.50GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4, when the 8S actually has Qualcomm S4 1 GHz, Dual-core

As far as i know the processor is the same like the one on the 8X only that it`s downclocked to 1Ghz.If i manage to find the article where i read this i will post it here.
Here are the current specs on gsmarena.

So probably is it possible to overclock the phone to 1.5GHz? If yes, can someone explain how?
right

From what I have learned from Android, you can get it overclocked by installing a custom rom.

Android overclocks with a custom kernel. Not sure how windows phones work when it boils down to the OS but if you can configure the deep, deep drivers within the windows phone you can probably overclock it much higher than 1.5 ghz.
My S3 has the same 1.5 S4 but its currently running at 2.1 ghz
I think it just might need a little time, but will come. Get some of the geniuses over here at XDA to help
AFAIK, not being a Windows Phone user, overclocking may be too tricky.

Yes.There is always a chance to overclock the processor but as far as i know it is to early for this to be done.Only time will tell.
I don't really run benchmarks, but I wanted to check some speeds vs my old N7 so I downloaded Antutu. When I open the app it says Hardware Scan: Reject. Anyone know what this means, or can anyone open Antutu on their new N7 and let me know if you see the same? Thanks will be in order.
Edit: It seems it thinks its my old N7, it hasn't been updated with the new N7 hardware. Sorry for the confusion.

It looks to me that antutu has not differentiated between the 2 nexus 7 devices yet. It thinks that the nexus 7 2013 should have a tegra 3 etc.
I read that HTC Desire EYE has Qualcom 801 msm8974AB but mine is msm8974AA
Anyone else ? Even more funny is the short spec sheet here on XDA 2.4GHz CPU?!?!?!?
Guys get serious..

We have a 8974AA (both are pin compatible and are very similar).

Thanks for reply.
So every Desire EYE have msm8974AA?
So this one is like Snapdragon 800 first generation used in LG G2...Xperia Z1...Nexus 5...etc.
I was confused about low benchmark scores on all reviews but now it is clear Snapdragon 801 MSM8974AA is in HTC Eye...lower GPU clock and RAM clock...funny how hardware info is not correct in any app available...

Similar but GPU and RAM are on the low clock speed sadly
I informed PDADB and they are the first (best) to change SOC spec used in Desire EYE
