Are you using the right RUU?
Use this fastboot command: fastboot getvar version-main
For getting the right Ruu version

Hi guys,
Im on cm10 latest nightly atm,
and i need to go back to stock HTC rom, no root no nothing , just HTC, for warranty reasons
I used this RUU in the past to get back to stock HTC
RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_HTC_Europe_1.29.401.11_Radio_1.1204.105.14_release_260491_signed
But now it doenst work, it gives me error 140, Before the error, the ruu shows me im going from 2.17.401.2 to 1.29.401.11
after that i get the error, that it has a bootloader error...
my bootloader is 1.12.000 atm
Can someone please help me get back to it ?
Also when i try to relock the bootloader, i get This : when using command: fastboot oem lock
I Get Failed(Too many links)
but after a reboot i get RELOCKED (security Warning)
Someone please help!
Go to htcruu.com and download the 2.17.401.2 ruu.
The security warning is because you have relocked your bootloader with a custom recovery still installed.

I want to install RUU to receive OTA. I have rooted the phone but have not flashed a custom firmware. I have twrp 2.3.1.0 recovery and have backed up my stock rom. I am very luck to have s-off but i dont want to install a custom rom yet. I have been doing alot of reading and have not figured the right way of doing this.
Do i need to relock the bootloader even if i have s-off? Don't know why i unlocked it in the first place!
Do i need to install a stock recovery or can i keep twrp 2.3.1.0 or will the RUU do this for me?
I was going to flash this RUU first RUU 1.26.401.2 if i do flash this will s-off change to s-on?
Can someone inform me the right way about doing this. Appreciate the help.
thanks
You don't have to relock bootloader to receive OTA. And please do not run a RUU. You'll lose superCID(111111).
If you want to receive OTA, you'll need the stock recovery..... TWRP will not work.

nooo you will not use your s-off & supercid for sure !!!
I did this a week ago to recieve ota
relock you bootloader just in case then run ota as administrator your s-off & supercid will not change !!!
RUU has nothing to do with changing your phone to S-ON or your cid
we s-offers dont have to worry about cids
Im s-off too lol
if you need something pm me
good luck

You keep repeating it, it'll make him move quicker.
If your phone is not receiving the OTA 4.2.2 update...it has not yet rolled out for your current CID/country/carrier/whatever. It is rolling out and if you wait you get it.
Or install a custom ROM if you don't want to wait.
Thank you
And ...no....you do not have to relock the bootloader to get and install ota's

Hi guys, I was trying to get my HTC M8 back to stock from VenomOneM8 ROM.
I was using the Venom ROM earlier, but now I want to update my M8 to marshmallow.
I was trying to returning all to stock, first was flashing stock recovery, then locking the bootloader and using the RUU to return to stock.
When running the RUU, I realise that the RUU is not working because it is a different region RUU. I read a post on XDA and someone said U/UL version can use the international RUU (.401).
Are there anyways to get out of this?
My region code is .710
CID: HTC__039
It's:
Bootloader relocked
Stock recovery
S-ON
No OS
4.20.710.5
Thank you
Hi,
Did you flash the stock kernel back before you lock the bootloader?

---------- Post added at 12:55 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:48 PM ----------
If no RUU exists for your version, the proper way to return to stock would be to: unlock the bootloader again (HTCDev.com process), then use the following guide to re-install TWRP, flash stock TWRP backup 4.20.710.5, than restore corresponding stock recovery. After that, you should be able to update (assuming the update is rolling out for your version).

Hello,

Thanks!
are you S-off with your htc one m8?
you cant flash RUU when you are S-ON
are you able to go in fastboot mode?
the old method to recover soft bricked of old htc phone was to push recovery using fastboot drivers from CMD. it was quick method.
1st you have to tell me are you S-OFF or S-ON?

This is false. A signed RUU meant for your CID, will flash fine with s-on, as long as the bootloader is LOCKED or RELOCKED.

Is the phone powered off, or does it seem to be on, just with nothing on the display?
If powered off, try holding power + Vol down for a minute or so, to see if you can get into bootloader.
Hi, thanks to everybody, but i solved the issue. I let my battery drain and then I charged it for a moment and turned the cellphone with Power and Vol -, I got in fastboot instaled twrp and then installed the rom and everything works fine now, thanks
My cellphone is S-OFF

Not booting after flashing a full, signed firmware is normal and expected. See on the following firmware thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/development/progress-fuu-m8-t2813792
Which reads:
- FullStock Wipe ZIP/FUU: this type of zip also re-flashes the /data partition with HTC’s DZDATA files (meaning you lose everything on your internal SDCARD). Also replaces the Kernel, Ramdisk, recovery and Splash1 with latest stock images! The /system partition will not be touched. (Else this would be a RUU, not a FUU). Phone will NOT boot after using this! Be sure to put a ROM onto your EXTERNAL SD before proceeding with a FullWipe ZIP! Else you can also ADB push a ROM in recovery mode after fastboot reflashing a recovery.
So flashing the ROM was the right thing to to. Nice work figuring it out.

redpoint ,can you clear one thing here? can you achieve BOOTLOADER RELCOK w/o S-OFF, i have already read forums on XDA that one cannot relock bootloader while S-ON
and can you flash RUU on S-ON? if am false can you post links here proving that you are true?

You can easily make the bootloader RELOCKED with a single fastboot command: fastboot oem lock
To make the phone LOCKED (for instance, warranty purposes) you need to have s-off.

Yes, you can flash RUU fine with the bootloader RELOCKED (after its been UNLOCKED) and s-on. RUU will run with bootloader LOCKED or RELOCKED. It also has to be the RUU for your devices CID,MID (can only change CID and MID with s-off); and also has to be an RUU of same version or later (no "downgrading" using an older RUU unless you have s-off).
In short, running the right version RUU is fine with s-on, as long as the bootloader is LOCKED or RELOCKED.
Hey there, i recently tried to root my phone with this (cant post links yet) guide, however something must have not worked out because I cant get passed the HTC logo. I can get into the fastboost mode but im not really sure what to do there. I tried the factory reset with TWRP but with no success. Its also in S-ON and i saw that most guides require it to be S-OFF in order to work.
I dont have any important stuff on it, I just want it to work again.
Can anyone help me?
Its a german phone by the way.
When I had this problem it went away after installing an RUU. Backup your internal storage, as it will be wiped. http://www.htc.com/us/support/rom-downloads.html

You should verify an RUU exists for your version; before you relock the bootloader. Relocking the bootloader wipes the OS, and also makes it harder to do other things, if you then discover there is no RUU for your version.
If you need help finding RUU, do fastboot getvar all, and post the results - delete IMEI and serial number before posting.
Basically, you have 2 paths you can take:
1) Relock bootloader and RUU as suggested (if RUU exists for your version)
2) Restore a stock TWRP backup from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/help/tutorial-how-to-stock-stock-twrp-t3086860
