I have strange problem. I've recently rooted my HOX, but I wanted to stay on stock rom with stock kernel (as long as I don't get bored ). I've istalled SetCPU to underclock processor - frequency about 1 GHz is prefect balance between performance and power saving for me. But when I set clock to 1000 MHz max, it continuously setting itself to 1500 MHz, despite the slider is still set to 1000 MHz. I attached screenshot for clarity.
Thanks in advance for help!
You can't oc/uc on stock kernel, you will need to swap to a custom kernel

I asked the same question about a month ago as my settings weren't sticking and every reply was the same, you need a custom kernel to oc and uc

don't think so... maybe because the rom was based on a custom kernel cause you can't oc/uc a custom kernel as bogfather said

what rom is best for customizing? on my old phone (wildfire) i had cm7 which had amazing performance and levels of customization but i dont want to loose the stock camera on the hox, It might not be possible but any advice is welcome.
Ive already tried venom which i found rather buggy with lots of random reboots and overheating and im currently on android revolution hd which is fast and stable but not custom enough for me.
You can try parandroid its an hybdrid rom and has stock camera.

I tried venom with franco kernel 12 and my phone was really unstable.

venom now flashed with faux so will see how it goes
Well I'm used to flashing roms, mods, boot.img 's through recovery and what not but I always see people talking about different kernels, i've tried searching but can't find any explanations of what they actually do and how you go about installed them on the one x? Are there any disadvantages from installing a different kernel,
Thanks for your help

Thanks so do most people tend to change kernels for power management?

It depends. Many custom kernels allow for undervolting, but at the expense of slightly sluggish performance coming out of deep sleep as the CPU ramps up to decent speeds again. Personally, stock kernel is pretty decent but currently using Faux's kernel for the GPU boost while gaming.
Just to confirm, I want to install franco's kernel on android revolution 9.0.0, so do i just install the rom as I usually do, then just flash a new boot.img and flash the kernel and that's it?
Just to add.. it goes without saying. Stock kernels are always the most stable and to be honest seem to be just as good performance and battery life as custom ones, if not better!:what:

Best battery life -- Perfomnce ballance for me: N3ocort3x v7.3.
5Hrs screen on time with light usage, 3,5 with typical usage (incl. gaming)
what kernel is everyone else using with the one x cm10 nightlies. the stock kernel seems to drain the battery.
any comparisons and how important is the kernel?
This should've been posted on q&a section...

For me I have a very good battery life.
I am on hboot 1.31 and modded mdeejay boot.img, repacked using nibble with latest cm10 kernel.
I then went into performance to underclock the cpu freq to 1000mhz
(It reduced the device heat and more battery for me) it didn't hinder the performance at all. Still smooth.
