Hey guys,
I'm having a hard time installing Nova Launcher as a system app. With Es File Explorer, I can copy it to /System/App. Then I install it and change permissions to full read, user write and nothing checked on third thing.
The strange thing is that when installed, I can use it. But after a reboot it keeps saying 'Nova launcer has stopped'. Also going to settings->Apps->Nova launcher, all counters of bytes show 0,00kb.
Thus my question: How do I install Nova Launcher as a System app, using it as my main launcher, without having to reinstall it every time I reboot?
Thanks in advance!

Yeah I have that, but still it removes everything on startup, since it doesn't load ("Nova launcher has stopped')
Maybe you can convert it using titanium backup to system app.

I am using Launcher Pro as my only home screen. I put it in /system and installed it (via root explorer) but it ends up in /data/app how can I make it stay in system?
why would u want it in system folder
when new versions come u will have hard time updating it
but just uninstall it place the apk file in the system/app folder then fix permissions on it and reboot and see if that works
the permissions should have checks on first column and only check the first box in second column everything else should be unchecked

I copied the file "Dina.apk" to my Epic 4g touch but it won't install. It goes through the motions then says, "Application not installed".

you need to put it in your system/App folder using root explorer and set permissions, it can't be installed using a package installer
I've tried this method on my GS2 with the provided file and I just can't get it to work. It did work with the MicrobesGl live wallpaper though.
Hello,
You can generate a CWM script to install all share and other apps here:

Did you set the right permissions?

I deleted the DigitalClock widget by accident. I know there's plenty in market, but I liked the stock one. Anyway, I have the .apk, moved the .apk to /system/app with Root Explorer and changed the permissions (now it's rw-r--r--). But still, when trying to install, the message "Application not installed" appears.

when the app is moved into the system/app folder it is then installed, no need running the .apk through a package installer because youll just get the "Application not installed" error, this is because your trying to install a system app which is what the apk is and not a standard installable app.
once moved into the system/app folder and permissions set, check your widgets if not there do a reboot then check again, if its still not there then your doing something wrong or setting the wrong permissions.
If it's not installing, could it be because it's a Samsung app? For example the stock camera, phone and messaging apps just won't install when I'm on CM7. So I'm assuming the same is true for Allshare, though I may be wrong.

Thanks, tried all but the widget won't appear on the list. I guess something is wrong with the .apk then.

Samsung apps will only work on Samsung ROMs unless modded to work on ALL Android devices just like any other app specific to any other ROM
The app in this thread is odexed and for thus wont work with most ROMs as these are deodexed.

Tab 2 7.0 no file copy
I took down the Dnla.zip, renamed it to Dnla.apk and moved it to my Tab 2 7.0. Then I used ES File and tried to move it to Root/System /App but it fails. I understand I need to change permissions for this. How do I accomplish this without rooting the device?

Hi...
I am a total noob at development.....I have just downloaded a ROM from the development forums.....I was wondering if there is a way to install another launcher ...( i want to install ilauncher)......
what is the way and how can I do it ???
I have downloaded the ilauncher.apk from market....
what to do next ???
do I install it like any other application or I need to do something else ??
any help will be appreciated...
thanxxx
Usually it should be the normal procedure. After downloaded and install from Play Store, press home button and it should prompt for which launcher to use and option to make default launcher.

you could use root explorer , mount r/w and remove the launcher apk from system/app, thus removing it from the system, wehn i used to change launchers in cm7 i did this so i would prevent any confictions with the other launcher, also move the launcher apk to the system/app

True but may i add, you need to move the apk to system/app then installing it before removing default launcher.

Had the bright idea to delete the stock gallery app while clearing bloatware. Unbeknownst to me, that was needed to set the lock screen wallpaper to anything other than the stock wallpapers. I use quickpic instead. Now I can't set a picture as the lock screen background (I can change wallpaper).
I've tried reinstalling the gallery, but when choosing to set the paper from the home screen, the gallery option does not show up. Is there a way to again associate the gallery, or an alternative app to do so?

I'm no expert, but have you restored gallery back to /system/app or did you just click on .apk and chose to install it? Because if you installed it, it went to /data/app - maybe that's the reason it does not function as it supposed to?
And second, try to run it as an app - see if it starts in first place, maybe there's something else missing. Perhaps you deleted odex file as well, and because of this it does not start?
Just did a little experiment - restored apk and odex files back to /system/app - and option to change wallpaper appeared again. No reboot needed.
Move gallery apk to system/app and set the permissions to rw-r-r aand reboot.

I believe you both are right, as I just installed like normal. Noob issue though, when I go to copy and paste the apk into system/app, I get a permission denied message. I'm rooted of course and granted es file explorer su privileges, so I'm not sure why. Any suggestions?
Thanks for the help

You need to remount /system as read-write, just like you did before removing apps (if you removed them manually). Go to your terminal emulator or use ./adb shell get superuser (by typing "su") and type: mount -o rw,remount /system
After that you can move files to*/system. Just don't forget to reboot or remount /system as read-only when done.
Root explorer allows pasting and permissions changing. I'm not sure I'm using the right apk. I had a nexus one that installed and worked (though not able to change lock screen). I uninstalled it, and installed 2 different versions of the Samsung app. It never gets recognized on the reboot like the nexus one did. I assume I'm using the wrong one. Any link to an official one? I am on 4.1.2 stock.
Thanks again

I'm using 4.1.2 stock, so here are files from my /system/app:

Good luck, and let me know if this helps.
P.S. Next time you clean you ROM, just move files to some location (for example your PC) Comes in handy later, I know that from my own painful experience

Any specific way to install it all back? I put everything back in system/app and rebooted. Nothing changed, it's not installed, and Android didn't "Update Apps" on the reboot. I try to install it with package installer like any other app and that fails. I've tried your odex and mine (which was never deleted).
That's great advice!
Hello everyone!
I have a problem with a Chinese tablet
this tablet is not bad as hardware but an awful launcher. They started with the simplest solutions, or change the launcher with others on the market. but every time you restart the tablet returns the old one.
with root explorer I entered the launcher between system app and tried to give the other as the default launcher. no way. each reboot resets.
I tried to move away the default launcher (hklauncher.apk) so that he could not use it in startup and so on every reboot ask me which launcher to start and once selected, then takes it and it works. but decidedly uncomfortable that every time you have to choose the launcher.
Now the way 2:
or I find which file system change to start an alternative launcher rather than hklauncher.apk. but I have no idea what file to edit (I found in the frameworks folder khmanager.jar and unzipping files inside there are a lot of files for each type of setting but have not found nor if there is one that defines the launcher.
change the apk of the alternative launcher: if I change the package name from blablabla.apk in hklauncher.apk and I insert it in the app system probabily it will start by default. but with apk tool you can not unzip the apk so that it is usable.
anyone have any idea what files I have to modify to change the system launcher?
or is there any idea how to change the package name of the alternative launcher?
thank you so much
Thankzz
