Install Alternate launcher ?? - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi...
I am a total noob at development.....I have just downloaded a ROM from the development forums.....I was wondering if there is a way to install another launcher ...( i want to install ilauncher)......
what is the way and how can I do it ???
I have downloaded the ilauncher.apk from market....
what to do next ???
do I install it like any other application or I need to do something else ??
any help will be appreciated...
thanxxx

Usually it should be the normal procedure. After downloaded and install from Play Store, press home button and it should prompt for which launcher to use and option to make default launcher.

you could use root explorer , mount r/w and remove the launcher apk from system/app, thus removing it from the system, wehn i used to change launchers in cm7 i did this so i would prevent any confictions with the other launcher, also move the launcher apk to the system/app

True but may i add, you need to move the apk to system/app then installing it before removing default launcher.

Apps in /system/app dont show up nor do widgets

so i removed friendstream.apk because of forcecloses and htcfacebook for sense i got the apks from a stock rom and used root explorer to mount and paste the files into the /system/app folder so theyre there, but i dont see the apps or widgets but when i try to install them using the app manager on android it says its already installed, any ideas? thanks!
im using damage control 3.2.3 with a custom kernel for damage control 3.7.1, thanks!
Leave them on your sd card and then try installing them using your file explorer.

when pusing them to /system/app with root explorer you have to change the permissions of each app you copy over (hold select the app and choose change permissions) i just check off all of the permissions thingys
when pushing through adb it does that automatically
hope that helps
the default ones are all can read and user can write plus read
Thread moved to Q&A.
yea i checked all the permissions and used adb before and still not showing up, lol really frustrating
any ideas guys, really miss friendstream lol
An easy way to fix permissions is through ROM manager.
Download it in the market and select fix apk permissions.
That might do the trick..
Don't forget to reboot.
yea tried that doesnt work, really weird
Very strange, did you try an adb install? Rather than push..

Adding System Apps to ROMS?

Somebody should just make a guide on how to do this
A lot of people are interested to use the stock launcher on ICS or JB
the guide for the nook doesn't work all the time

I want to add two apps to glazed ICS ROM. MagicSmokeWallpapers and Visualization wallpapers. To get the stock launcher to work, I need to add these two apps, as they're missing. I tried downloading them and moving them to system app and then use chmod 644 in terminal emulator, but the launcher still forced closed. When I used Jellybean, it had these two apps and HTML Viewer.apk and Provision.apk, and the launcher worked. I tried opening the ROM's archive with 7zip and added the apps to /system/app, but it didn't work. When I tried to flash, it just rebooted TWRP. Anyway to add the apps?

I'm able to add apk files to the ROM. Just put the Rom zip file on the desktop. Right click and under 7zip options, open archive and then system/app and drag and drop the apk into the app folder.

[Q] How do I install a Launcher as a system app?

Hey guys,
I'm having a hard time installing Nova Launcher as a system app. With Es File Explorer, I can copy it to /System/App. Then I install it and change permissions to full read, user write and nothing checked on third thing.
The strange thing is that when installed, I can use it. But after a reboot it keeps saying 'Nova launcer has stopped'. Also going to settings->Apps->Nova launcher, all counters of bytes show 0,00kb.
Thus my question: How do I install Nova Launcher as a System app, using it as my main launcher, without having to reinstall it every time I reboot?
Thanks in advance!
HTC One X
CyanogenMod 10
N7C Standard kernel.
Permissions need to be owner RW, group R, others R (644).

Yeah I have that, but still it removes everything on startup, since it doesn't load ("Nova launcher has stopped')
Maybe you can convert it using titanium backup to system app.

[Q] Missing system apps after reboot

Hi.
I have a problem with stock .587 rooted ROM. When I move some apps to the /system/app directory, they appear then instantly in app drawer, but after reboot there aren't there (apk files are still in /system/app directory). I can't install them as normal apps.
For example i used this app: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2230036
Why does it happen?
Thanks in advance.
Sorry for my english

modify package name of apk or change the default launcher (not by android interface)

Hello everyone!
I have a problem with a Chinese tablet
this tablet is not bad as hardware but an awful launcher. They started with the simplest solutions, or change the launcher with others on the market. but every time you restart the tablet returns the old one.
with root explorer I entered the launcher between system app and tried to give the other as the default launcher. no way. each reboot resets.
I tried to move away the default launcher (hklauncher.apk) so that he could not use it in startup and so on every reboot ask me which launcher to start and once selected, then takes it and it works. but decidedly uncomfortable that every time you have to choose the launcher.
Now the way 2:
or I find which file system change to start an alternative launcher rather than hklauncher.apk. but I have no idea what file to edit (I found in the frameworks folder khmanager.jar and unzipping files inside there are a lot of files for each type of setting but have not found nor if there is one that defines the launcher.
change the apk of the alternative launcher: if I change the package name from blablabla.apk in hklauncher.apk and I insert it in the app system probabily it will start by default. but with apk tool you can not unzip the apk so that it is usable.
anyone have any idea what files I have to modify to change the system launcher?
or is there any idea how to change the package name of the alternative launcher?
thank you so much
Thankzz
