September's OTA update. - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

My phone lost universal search after the latest at&t OTA. I can't find any threads or articles that discuss this. Everything that I find relates to the July OTA that did this and there's no mentioning of he Sept updates doing good this. Did I miss something?

Yet another thing you can thank Apple for. Apparently they had a patent for "universal search".... sued Samsung (and i believe a few others), and hence, to avoid a sales ban/fines, they removed it. Really makes me hate Apple more than i already did. Almost never used it myself, but still.

If you are rooted, then download the Google quick search apk from the link and copy paste to /System/apps/ directory. Make sure to backup the original one.

Unknown member - providing modems?

Currently, we have Wild and Doc doing most (all?) the modem pulls. People get busy with real life, and sometimes cannot be around to pull new modems as they are released.
I am pulling them as well (have I5 now before posted on board), and can upload them somewhere for people, but was not sure about public reception since I only have 20 posts. If you want to see some of my other work, you can Google me. You can also wait until Doc uploads his version then verify that the MD5 on his modem.bin matches mine (updater-script will not match).
I've made a script to pull modems, and can share that as well, if people want. Be advised that my prepackaged modems do not create a modem.backup file. Instead, I've created a directly flashable UVLEM zip file in it's place, as I feel this is a better solution.
Go ahead and post if people don't want to flash they won't but I prolly will

Samsung Put OTA System "on hold"???

Does anybody have any information to add that can possibly explain? I went to my usual 2 sites for ota releases and saw this. Had to double and triple check it! And I haven't found ANY explanation anywhere!
Basically when I checked live.samsung-updates.com I noticed the two "Notes" you can see in the screenshot. As it turns out they haven't had an ota for any device for over 2 days! I checked sammobile.com and it looks like our latest ota was their last for any device...3 days ago!
They also state that most otas for the i9300 and legacy otas have been deleted from Samsungs system!
Can anyone enlighten me as to whats going on here? Is this temporary or was UVALI8 the last ota we will get?
It just seems odd that there isnt hardly any info about this and that the update sites have seemed rather quiet about it. (Or is this something that happens enough to be normal and I just never noticed before?)
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Maybe clearing them out getting ready for official.
I think there getting it ready for the i9300 Jb release
Maybe they are waiting for a fix to the NFC vulnerability before publishing anything?
Then why would they take their entire ota system offline? The i9300 wasn't the only device they had otas for. Im talking about every Samsung device worldwide is no longer getting the leaked otas.
Honestly I just threw the info about the deleted ones because it was right there.
What im curious about is why they took down the whole ota system apparently and if its temporary.
Seems like not one device has had an ota leak in 3 days. Kind of unusual I thought.
I guess not though. Oh well. Thanks anyway guys.

It has said that for a couple weeks now. They are referring to their own site that posts the otas. It went down for a few days and now needs fixing. ( notice there is no info about versions). They posted that originally saying they were on vacation and would have everything back to normal by that date.
The 2 notes Im referring to were put up yesterday and are referring to Samsungs system, not their site. (They cant get otas anymore because Samsungs OTA system is "on hold")
Also notice that they haven't had an ota for going on 3 days now while sammobile hasnt had one since our UVALI8 going on 4-5 days ago. Im pretty certain they usually have several everyday. They post otas for all Samsung devices all over the world. Or at least they used to?
On hold sounds temporary but youd think there might be a little more info about it somewhere.

No kidding! Like you said, we would think that if there was a problem or they were doing significant maintenance they would have posted SOMETHING to let people know. Maybe in some weird way could it be related to one of the lawsuits? It's disconcerting that all of a sudden everything coming from them in regards to the updates for ALL devices would just drop of like it has. I suppose that's why you made this thread

Yea it would be nice to get a leak that doesn't sip 6% an hour! android system is very thirsty! Anyways I think the site will be back up. Thats pretty much why. I dont mind waiting however long it takes for new updates, but yeah when they just stop like that for everything it makes me wonder why.
I do understand that the otas are not official, just leaked, and may not warrant explanation from Samsung themselves, but what I posted in the op was ALL I could find! No one even discussing it just seems odd to me.
I would have thought its becsuse Sammy doesn't want these leaks getting out, but with there being established web sites devoted to getting them out for a while now, its not like they haven't known about it. Im sure they've been taking full advantage of it for testing and fixes like you find in our dev section.
But yeah, after finding no discussions or good info at all, I decided to post what I knew here. You never know who knows or found something I couldn't. Or maybe one of the guys that had a bead on the ota releases knows something theyd be willing to share?

Samsung hub or w.e is going to be down too. It's likely Samsung is just doing maintenance. Is it sammy or tmo that hosts the official jb update? I could see the need to beef things up before millions of phones update.

It very well could be maintenance. But then i have to ask why they deleted the i9300 otas? Maintenance...could be. Its just the lack of any information that made me wonder. Usually stuff like that gets mentioned on sites like sammobile, but I didn't even see it in their forums. I didnt even realize it had happened till yesterday.
it just struck me as odd so I figured I'd ask.
Like I said, just gotta wait and see what happens I guess.

I believe the official fw updates go out as ota patches from tmobile. But you can download the full fw from Samsung or one of the ota sites. They roll out fota updates in phases so doubt they are lacking the infrastructure for it anyway.

Yay trash folder!
Dear Samsung customers,
There will be scheduled Smart Hub maintenance will occuring on Tuesday, September 25th from 9:00 PM - 5:00 AM (EST). During this time you may experience difficulties connecting to Smart Hub servers and using various functions of the Smart Hub service (App download, App launch, Smart Hub ID creation, etc). Do not setup repair service for Smart Hub issues during this time. The Smart Hub service should be restored at or shortly after 5:00 AM (EST).
Thx man. At least you got an email about that though.
I suppose it could be related if they are doing massive network upgrades or something. Otherwise one probably has no bearing on the other.
Lol. Isnt that the same day they're offering the avengers for free?

You sure the update didn't poop out? Did your download finish? Did you md5 it? Did the check sums match? Was it built from the source or a repack? Was it a big or little tar all? How much could it be compressed much when zipped?

Just root it using Odin and Chainfires auto-root method, I'm not familiar with the custom kernel as yet, so I won't comment on that. Once you root, you still keep all stock functionality, just have administrative rights, so to speak. If you're not too familiar with rooting, flashing, etc.. I wouldn't recommend starting right now with the Note 3, still early in the aftermarket development stage..

Considering all of the challenges that people have faced with Fierce bootloops - and for a while no way way to fix them, this is a situation where you would do very well to do some reading before you do anything. There are two root methods currently both are outlined in the Original Android Development Section for the TMOBILE NOte 3 - you can download everything you need from there - and I think it would be very helpful for you to read thru what others have done and experienced before you do anything - then you can make your own decision about which root method is best for your needs.
I don't mean to sound sanctimonious or anything but if there ever was a time that reading thoroughly first was a good thing to do - this is one of those times..good luck

What did my post have to do with your asking for a link? Well, I didn't want to be this direct but If you simply opened the Original Android Development thread and took less than a minute to read, you wouldn't need to ask for a link. You would see that there were two threads available that offered details that would give you exactly what you wanted. Two different ways to root.
In fact, in less time than it took you to write your post and wait for an answer, you would have had exactly what you were looking for.
My response to you was a gentle reminder that reading is a good thing.

I am sorry you felt I was ridiculing you. That was not my intent at all. THis forum is loaded with people who have have had major issues when flashing a recovery which is often the next step after rooting - there are more reports of people who have had to return their note 3 to TMOBILE than I can remember seeing on a single phone in a very long time. My Suggestion for you to read was purely intended to help you - it is easy to let others do the work for you - when often trouble could have been avoided by being more educated. What struck me as odd was the fact that it was so easy to find the link you were looking for - if you only opened one section of the forum in the Original Android Development you would have found it. But that is besides the point.
My comments were always supportive - and intended to help you. Period. I am sorry that you are so caught up in the " I want what I want when I want it "- that you can't see that. XDA is a forum designed for people to learn more about their phones and to ultimately try to get more out of them than you can get in a Stock phone...I have been in your shoes before and done exactly what you did when asking for a link - and have gotten a similar reply to the one I gave you. I am grateful it happened to me because it forced me to take a step back - do a little reading - learn more about the challenges others have faced and in the end, avoid those same problems myself.
Once more, I am Sorry you feel I was ridiculing you - couldn't be farther from the truth - I wish you well and hope you enjoy your NOTE3. Have a nice day my friend.

I may be wrong but I thought that using that option in Wanam Exposed was cosmetic only. It changes that to Official in Settings - but doesn't really effect how your phone is recognized as being 'altered" - LIke I said, I might be wrong, but that is what I heard. I may be wrong but I thought that using that option in Wanam Exposed was cosmetic only. It changes that to Official in Settings - but doesn't really effect how your phone is recognized as being 'altered" - LIke I said, I might be wrong, but that is what I heard. Good luck

That's what I thought also but when I tried to go to the ota update setting it told me that this is a modified system and when I use that module then it told me that there was no further updates... so I guess that made it work. ..
