i'm not sure if this is the right section to ask this but my tilt 2 is not recognized by my computer anymore. I thought maybe it is the phone but it's recognized on other computers so I was wondering is there a way to reinstall the driver on my computer or some other fix someone know of?
I think I saw some threads with similar problems but I didn't see any definitive answer in any.
HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you have XP or Vista/7? The first step you should try is uninstalling/reinstalling whichevery type of sync software you have on the PC...for XP it's ActiveSync, for Vista/7, it's Mobile Device Center. A fresh reinstall of those sometimes clears this problem up, and it's the easiest solution to try first
I have xp and I have uninstalled and reinstalled but that doesn't do anything my phone still isn't recognize that's why I was wondering if after u uninstall does the driver remains on the hard drive and if so how would u remove the driver so u can reinstall it.
Do you use the same cable when you are connecting it to the other computers? If you do then... well I dont know.. I would still try a new cable and wiggle it a bit
When you uninstall the Active Sync I believe it does take the driver off as well...
When you connect your phone to the computer does it still come up asking if you want to connect via Active Sync, Disk Drive, Internet Sharing?
I'll give you one method that helped me at least when I was having connection issues, have no idea if it is related to yours (and it might not even be applicable to the older XP version of ActiveSync).
While your phone is connected, go into Device Manager and under the Network adapters node, look for "Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter". If it is there, uninstall it.
After that, disconnect then reconnect your phone.
As a long shot, you would not happen to be running any VPN software would you? A connected VPN always makes syncing the phone impossible.
Is your phone charging while connected?
I had/have a USB connection issue with my Tilt2. It wasn't recognized by the computer, but it was charging. When I connect through bluetooth, it is detected just fine. I am assuming that my issue are the pins in the USB connector on the phone, since I have the same issue with different cables.

No the only thing it does now is charge.

yeah it's still charging but that is it... nothing else happens
Every so often when I connect my phone to my pc all it does is charge.. All I do to fix it is soft reset the phone AND restart the computer. Usually after that it works fine. If not just take it off and put it back on the dock or cable.. if you try a different cable that might work for you too. Or try plugging your cable into a different usb port on the computer
Hi guys,
I wonder if anyone can help with this problem?
,
I'm having trouble hooking it up to my PC which is running XP.
When I chose to connect as either "Media Device MTP" or "Camera PTP" I get an error message on the taskbar of my PC:
"USB device Not Recognised. One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned , and Windos does not recognise it. For assistance in solving this problem, click this message."
I click the message and get taken to the list of USB devices with one in bold stating "Unknown device", I click on it and try to update the drivers etc but PC is unable to instal newer drivers.
I think I've narrowed this down to an MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) driver not being installed on the PC, so have installed Windows media player 11, Kies, Samsung PC Studio 7, tried searching the net for drivers, even tried installing Galaxy S2 drivers and none of them work.
Does anyone know what else I may be able to try, or can someone tell me where I could get the correct driver as this is starting to drive me nuts...
PS. I have hooked up the Nexus to my work PC (running Vista) and was recognised withing seconds, so is not a faulty phone
Thanks in advaance for you help!!

Hah, you posted what I managed to resist writing. I thought to myself 'someone's bound to bring that up'... Right on time!
Just get WiFi file explorer PRO and sync through wifi...but I'm quite sure that you can get MTP to work on winXP.
Can't really help you with the Galaxy Nexus since mine hasn't arrived yet but for my Galaxy Tab 10.1 I didn't install any driver (honeycomb also only understands MTP). I let windows install all the drives automatically, had to restart a couple of times but in the end I had a working connection with no Samsung crap like Kies installed.

I've got this as the work around at the moment, but finding it a bit laborious having to transfer one file at a time.
Finding that Samsung website is quite useless - only has the User guide as downloadable PDF.
Microsoft website is even less helpful...!

You can transfer as many files as you like....up.
And to be honest you can also try using an FTP server, it works very well and then you can browse your phone easily.

Is that with XP?
I thought I was getting there after installing WMP 11 as I got a message stating "Galaxy" when I connected the USB cable, but it still didn't work fully.
A couple of re-boots later it resorted back to "USB Device not Recognised"
Hope the Nexus conmects for you when it arrives

Do you mean that you can upload multiple files in one go with Wireless file transfer Pro?
with music for eg. I'm having to do one track at a time?
Will look at the FTP servers now, any recommendations?

Sorry no, it was something worse, Vista.
If you got xp to recognize it as "Galaxy" you should be on the right track. I remember that being the first device in Vista too. The auto update feature installed various Samsung updates, always after the device couldn't be started and almost all of them required a restart. But about five of these updates (and restarts...) later it connected correctly. No Samsung software necessary.
Don't know if that was dumb luck but I'm not complaining.
I have missing MTP driver on my WIndows XP laptop for work (I use Win 7 at home) is there any solution to this yet?
Try this.
It will install the Media Transfer Protocol Porting Kit (MTP drivers) on Windows xp and should allow the device to be recognised.
I uploaded the file (which I downloaded directly from Microsoft) so you dont have to validate first. Download it *HERE* and install.
Let me know if it works for Windows xp and I will add it to my fixes section im writing.
Mark.
Thanks, Mark,
I did find and download that file earlier but it didnt work. However, as my work laptop is subject to Group Policy, it may still work for others. I do have local admin rights on my machine so I wouldnt have thought it would be a problem but we always get quirks with our corporate builds.
I have found other references on the net to a file from Creative called "fixup.zip" which apparently includes the MTP drivers (tweaked to also allow recognition of creative devices) but I cant find anywhere to download it from.
after a little searching with Google i found the answer
so my laptop runs XP (because i shoot tethered to my Canon Camera and i know it works) and i use the laptop to sync my phones (also collects my e-mail etc) and i stumbled on this thread when i was searching for a solution as to why MTP failed to install with my new Nexus..
the solution is
to install Windows Media Player 10! once i did that, BAM! i can see my Nexus in the explorer window with the rest of my drives

New "known issue" - samsung!
I had issues trying to get the device working on 3 computers yesterday (Win 7, Vista, XP) , with only interment luck.
I got to Samsung Level 2 support, at 2pm EST, I was his first G-Nex call. We tried the Samsung driver, updating WMP to v11 on XP. Best I got was it to open sometimes (best after a GNex Reboot or after almost shutting it down: ie. holding power button in ant hitting back arrow). It opens best on my Vista PC (one I hardly use...); Sometimes I open it and get no further than the device level (GALAXY NEXUS); if Internal Storage eventually shows up, you may be able to get in; then you MAY be able to transfer files to the folders.
I got a call back from SAMSUNG Level 2 today: "THERE IS A KNOW ISSUE IN THE MTP LAYER OF THE PHONE; THERE ARE ISOLATED CASES OF PROBLEMS LIKE YOURS; SAMSUNG & GOOGLE ARE WORKING TO RESOLVE AND ISSUE A MAINTENANCE RELEASE". (As close as I can quote this.) No, there was no estimate of WHEN this would be released, but I'm hoping soon, as it is a pain and major issue for us "isolated" cases - why me?
I found that MTP does not work correctly on winxp without Windows Media Player 11. It appears to work kinda with WMP10, but not the way you would expect.
Fix
I was pulling my hair out trying to get my new verizon galaxy nexus connected to my pc running windows xp to transfer files. Finally I figured out what the problem was for me.
MTP is tied to windows media player somehow and you need to have the new version of windows media player installed for it to work. Until I did this I was getting an error when a plugged in my phone about the required files not found in the INF file or something.
1. download new version of windows media player.
2. You need to download the samsung USB drivers from samsungs website...I would post the link but I am not allowed.
make sure you click the tab for software...it defaults to manuals and doesn;t look much like a tab at all. After that mine worked beautifully although the MTP transfers seem extremely slow compared to the USB mass storage connection my droid 2 had.
Hope this helps someone else out there!
I've read a couple places that Mac 10.8 won't recognize the Galaxy Nexus. Is this true? USB debugging is enabled, my phone charges when connected to the Mac but Android File Transfer doesn't recognize the device, nor does it show up in the status bar. I've been using DropBox which takes forever but it's the only answer I've found.
Thanks for your help....

Dang....it's not set to fast charge, at least that's what my ROM is telling me. Are there various places to check and see if it's fast charging? My old Mac worked fine so I don't know what the problem is but it sucks
And if you run in terminal an adb/fastboot command, when the daemon's started does it recognize the device?

Try disconnecting your USB cable first. Wake your phone from the lock screen and connect the USB cable again. Should be recognized by Android File Transfer. Try to keep the phone from sleeping by setting the display option to sleep only after 10 minutes (or whatever you want). For some weird reason, the phone has to be awake for the macbook to recognize the device (in my case). I hope this solves your problem :fingers-crossed:
Same happened to me. Try unchecking usb debugging and then plug in usb. Should work.
Well, maybe the two way above are easyer and could help, try with them. However it's a strange behavior, my gnex it's recognize even if it's in stand-by and with adb debug active!
This is so frustrating.....no luck.
Is anyone having issues mounting their tablet via USB. If I check off Camera (PTP) I get access to my photos in my Windows Explorer, but when I check off Media (MTP) windows acts like it doesn't exist. ADB can't see the tablet either, but once I check off Camera (PTP) ADB can see the tablet... I'm using a windows 8 computer, has anyone heard of this happening, or is it happening to any other computers?
I have no issue using MTP. Did you install the driver from google?

You have some old driver that is blocking access.
Use device manager to remove the device and driver then reboot and try again using the Google drivers.

Yes. It is fairly typical. I had same issue on Windows 7 x64 and lived with it for a while.
Finally, I decided to fix it by uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling. It took about an hour after trying all sorts of tricks. There are tricks in quite a few threads here on xda. I'm not sure any one thread fixes every problem. So I found the solution was trial and error.
After messing with driver for a couple hours, serious waste of time, I got MTP working once. As a confirmation check I uninstalled the drivers once more and let the drivers reinstall on plugging in the device. It broke again, back to PTP. LOL
Not giving up, I tried again the next day and finally got MTP working again. This time I uninstalled drivers again, and the correct drivers reinstalled on device plug in. Since then everything has been great. I get both MTP and PTP working great.
I would try sfhub thread ideas and search around for a couple other ideas too. It will eventually work, but you have to isolate what exactly is the problem on your Windows 8 PC. Sometimes you are missing just one thing, sometimes Windows automatically messes with you.
Good luck.
I have no issues with Win7x64. Worked first time and every time since. Sorry...

Make sure you are using the usb cable marked Asus on one end that came with the Nexus 7. I had the same problem because I was using another usb cable. They are not all the same.

Hey gang, I can't seem to connect my LG to my laptop. Hello! You can find the drivers you would need and I would suggest installing the LG PC Suite, from here..
http://mobilepcsuite.com/lg-g3-pc-suite-465
After installing these, and your laptop doesn't recognizes the phone then there could be old drivers blocking you from connecting your LG phone.. OR bad USB connections ( check your USB ports ).. Good luck

Have you installed your phone drivers from that site? Try connecting another USB device such as a flash drive or something to check if your ports are working well. Reboot your laptop with the phone plugged in.. See what happens.. Next step is to try connecting your phone to a pc or another laptop.. Your USB ports could be damaged.

Thanks for the tips. I was able to download the LGPCSuite and when I do connect my phone and open the app it recognizes my phone, but all I can add to my phone are pics, videos, and music. I can't add any folders or anything else. Its not allowing me to see all my folders on my phone.
A weird solution that worked for me
I had the same problem. My g3 would only charge when connected via usb and only connect to pc suite via wifi.
I tried everything, but no luck.
In my case, the problem was that the usb cable, although it looked like it was nicely plugged in, it needed to be pressed down to make a right connection. If i just plug the usb cable, it just showed that the phone was charging.
But if i press the last part of the cable, just where it enters at the bottom of the phone, then all other option show up(like mtp etc), my windows system makes the familiar usb sound etc. If I give up the pressure, then back to charging only mode.
I hope this helps some of you. It is a bad usb port at the phone that caused the problem.

Well Thanks, for the post, I know you didn't need to write all this when your phone was connected for good, but you did it because you knew there would also be some people like me in need of your help,

Now i think i should try your method and will tell you if it also works for his G3 or not. Thanks by the way.
