Disabling Auto Brightness - Samsung Galaxy W I8150

OK... so here's the thing.....
I want to be able to use the slider function across the top of the screen....I've seen one thread and asked about it in another....both explain how to get to the setting.....
But.....
I can't activate the function because Auto Brightness is enabled.....and I can't find a way of disabling it....can anybody help....pleeeaassee....
CM9...I don't HAVE to.....I just.....can..

Have you ever installed an app which enables the auto brightness?
reinstall it,and disable the auto brightness function, then uninstall it
U should be able to use the slider function again
(I can't help u if you don't remember which app u installed)

Hi Mitch....I've been through my download history on play store...and the only thing I can attribute it to is (maybe) one of the half dozen or so themes that I've downloaded, tried and then deleted.....other than that, does Nova launcher have any effect....it's currently frozen in favour of trebuchet
CM9...I don't HAVE to.....I just.....can..

wait, our phone has auto brightness?!?

Lol....the settings there, though it doesn't seem to do much.....but while it's enabled, I can't slide across the top of the screen to manually adjust brightness....and I can't switch auto off.......

I've posted this on another thread, but will repeat here for others...
Try installing Widgetsoid (gratis), create a widget containing 'brightness' toggle, and tap on that toggle until you're no longer set to auto-brightness.
-- GT-I8150 + DXKL1 + CM9b3 + xda --

Okay, I've just reconfigured my Power Widgets... and whaddaya know, there's a widget for Brightness... and one of the options is... Auto! Thus, you don't need to install Widgetsoid; just add a Brightness power widget, add the 'Auto' brightness + some other manual values, then cycle.

Samsung Galaxy W hasn't got Light Sensor hardware. So you can't set up auto brightness.

Thanks for your response....
The fact is that *somehow* auto brightness was enabled on my phone, so using the 'swipe across the top of the screen' method to adjust brightness was disabled. Having followed the advice given by another XDA member, I downloaded 'set brightness' from the play store and disabled AUTO. Now everything works as I want.....
Thanks all for your help.....

Excessive screen rotation?

I've noticed that with 2.2 my screen has been rotating excessively (extremely sensitive, find it at either 180 or 90 most of the time). Running stock rooted 2.2 w/ netarchy's latest kernel.
Tried wiping rotate settings to no avail.
Has anyone else experienced this before?
//edit: FIXED
Wiped rotate settings, then calibrated the G-sensor a few times. Seems to have fixed it.
I find it very irritating.
Some ROMs (CM6) have an option in their Power Control widget to lock the screen orientation, and even have the options in the system settings to control what angles the screen will rotate to. To be honest, 180 degrees and 90 degrees is kinda pointless when the kickstand props it up to 270.
Yes sometimes I'll finish talking on my phone and then look at it and its in landscape.

Get an application called AutoRotate OnOff from the market.
Its a widget that lets you control the rotate feature with one tap.

It would be nice not to have to use this though.
There should be advanced settings to configure the degree of rotation needed to change the orientation. That way i could set it the exact way that suits me the best..... if only everyone were smart enough not to mess it up and call sprint support, more power would be provided to everyone lol.

I think I spoke too soon. A few hours after my "fix" it started to act up again. Now it's even more prevalent than before! Getting very annoying.

power control widgets config?

I have a n00b-like question, and I am ashamed.
In apps, for many of the current roms, there is a "Power Control Widgets Config" app.
WTF does it do?
I would have thought that it would change settings in the "Power Control" android widget, but it does Nothing for me...
Or perhaps in the notifications dropdown settings? Nope, not there either.
I've never seen it do a damn thing.
What critical piece of obvious information am I missing?
Flame away.

I think it may actually be a widget. I haven't seen it in a rom, but it could be. Try long pressing it on a home screeen and see if anything happens.

That app works for me. It is to configure certain settings in the notification toggle Widgets. I use it to set the sound to do silent/vibrate/sound. I also set the flashlight to normal with that, and also the brightness settings.

Ah! Indeed sir, you are correct.
Since my dropdown does not have the brightness toggle, I did not make the connection. But since I was able to change the toggle color, I can see that this does indeed config that feature.
Is this a scenario where I have to be editing some .txt file to change the toggles?

Yes, exactly. If you wanted to use the brightness toggle, or any toggle, you'd need to edit the widget.txt file (if you're on sense). If you add the brightness.toggle, and the flashlight toggle, then the app will configure how those toggles act for you.

power toggles works great except for 2 things...

1. No way to set the brightness to 0%.. why won't it go below 10%?
2. GPS toggle brings up location services menu instead of actually toggling the GPS on.
Anyone have a solution to either?
You can always use an app to get those toggles or just wait for the custom ROMS.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
Correct me if I'm wrong but 0% means no brightness at all......
So how the hell are u gonna bring it back up when u can't see a thing?
Sent from my GT-I9450
Not sure if it's zero but installed power widget goes much darker than power toggle does
Make power toggles a system app with titanium backup, then pressing the gps icon will turn it on rather than take you to the location access screen.

Just move /data/app/com.painless.pc-1.apk to /system/app/com.painless.pc-1.apk , chmod 644 /system/app/com.painless.pc-1.apk and reboot.
Need root
Thanks!
I would VERY much like to have no icon rather an an invisible one. The blank space seems off. Any possible edits there?
There has to be a way to get rid of the icon. In the description of the app, he mentioned that it can't because of the api but extended controls removes it from notification but when you enable notification controls, a widget is still left on the screen. Which this one has an option to remove that.
Sent from my Nexus 4
The GPS thing is general. After 3.0 update no app is allowed to change GPS state so you need a work around. Tasker can't change GPS states either. Either do it manually, or install secure settings. Needs root.

Yes ofc as u can see in the screenshot there is a huge space between the battery status and the message notification. That is because of power toggles. I choose transparent but the space is still there, how do I move that space? The creator of the app said it cant be done but I am quite sure someone has done it before...so please help me out

has nothing to do with gps mate
fyi an update a few weeks back fixed the GPS on/off location services bug.
still no way to set the minimum brightness below 10 however.
i have to go into the brightness settings and manually move it lower if i want the screen to be dimmer.
that still bugs me.

Setting the notification priority to 1 instead of 5 and restarting the app removes the icon. The toggles can't be pinned to top however.

[Q] How to change/customize screen orientation?

Greets!
In a nutshell: looking for a way to hold my screen up-side-down and have it show correctly. Basically I wan to put it in my dash holder up-side down so that the usb charging port is facing the bottom. That way, I dont have to try an get my charging and audio cables to reach all of the way to the top!
I have found an app that lets me change to landscape, but not completely all the way around. My iPad does this with ease by default. Any clue on how to change the orientation so that I can hold my phone up-side-down but still have the screen showing correctly?
Also, running Slim 4.2.2 Build5 if that makes a difference.
Thanks!
One of the settings (display maybe?) has what screen orientations are enabled. 180 is off by default.

Stock CM and many ROMs based off it has this option BUT they will not enforce this on all apps AND it will not work on lockscreen (i.e. even if you lock it 180 in settings, you'll have to unlock in 0 degrees).
I've investigated the same problem quite much and found "Ultimate Rotation Controls" to be the only solution that can force all apps including the lockscreen to rotate in any direction you want (while other similar apps also can force apps to rotate but fail on lockscreen).

[APP] TorchLight Enabler - no root required

Hello,
Just want to share this simple app I made to enable torch when pressing volume up key when the screen is off. I know there are already many mods/xposed modules up there that can do this but this one works on stock rom without needing root access. It is a feature in earlier galaxy devices but for some reason was removed from the S6 or S6 Edge. This app enables it and allows to set timeout settings. Just install and enjoy.
Wow, this is so handy, thank you much

I wonder, couldn't vol up/down button be accidentally pressed in the pocket?
And yeah..what about wakelock?

You can't. It is enabling the stock torchlight.
It is the same if you have a rooted phone and use an app like "sqlite editor" then navigate to "apps", "settings storage", "settings.db", "system" and add (by hitting the + sign) the lines
name = torchlight_enable and value = 1
And for the timeout setting
Add
name = torchlight_timeout and value = 30000 (i use 60000 i.e. 1 min)
Xpericle has just made it easier for those not comfortable with root and sqlite
I usually have to wake the device (by pressing the power key) and then lock it again to get the torch to work with volume up. I believe this is because the device does go into deepsleep and that is why some people say it doesn't work.

This.
