[Q] Clear counter and Unroot - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
had a custom Rom with Root.
Then i Flashed Stock Rom without Root and now i have counter status of 1.
My Question:
Can i Root, use triangle aeay and then unroot?
I want the clear stock rom without root but with no counter increase.
Thank yout very much.

Yeah sure why not. Just use Triangle Away, need to be rooted of course. Then flash a stock ROM via Odin. Clear data and cache. Job done.

[Q] Can i go back to Stock recovery/stock rom?

Hello all,
is there any way i can go back to unrooted stock and clear my Flash counter?
I havent been able to find a stock recovery/stock rom to flash
Thanks all

Get the galaxy toolkit from the original galaxy note section. Multi-options available. Chainfire has a flash counter reset on the market also if that is the direction your heading

Triangle Away should be able to clear your counter.
Dev threads have instructions on unrooting and going back to stock.

Going from CM10 to root injected ICS

Looking for a little guidance. What steps would be needed to accomplish this? Could I simply go to CWM recovery and select the stock rom file? Or do I use Odin again? Definitely dont want to trip the counter
Also in CWM any other things I need to do in there for wiping, etc
Thanks
Hey this thread might help i think he has the root injected stock ics image and he also has the jelly bean with injected root and i personally flashed the jelly bean and it's great.

it was my understanding the root injected JB would trip the counter tho
Just wipe and flash. Done. Your just changing android versions. Just as if it were a custom rom
sent from the dark side of the universe....
thatsupnow, can I go to the root injected JB now (even if it has the counter trip problem), or will I still need to worry about the counter?
Also if I wanted to reload my current cm10, is there a factory reset that wipes all the data and apps, etc as if it were a brand new installation of cm10? Thx
you don't really need to worry about the trip counter unless you have to send it in to samsung and i think triangle away will reset the trip counter if you really want it to be set at 0
read this to learn some more about triangle away i personally never really used it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494114
and that jelly bean rom didn't trip my counter. If you want to do a fresh install of cm10 i would just think that you would wipe everything and reinstall

Returning to samsung for warranty claim

Hi guys,
I am returning the unit to samsung for some issues, its under warranty and i have rooted the phone,
What all things are to be done before returning the phone? I mean how do i unroot again?

There are tutorials in this forum. Another thing to check is your flash count, if it's above zero then you'll need to reset it. I recently returned my note 2 for a warranty claim. Whilst I was rooted I used triangle away to reset my flash counter, then unrooted through SuperSU. Then just did a factory reset.
I have heard that sometimes triangle away can brick ur phone? What are the chances?
Can u confirm the below steps?
1. Use triangle away to reset the flash counter.
2. In super su, settings, use full unroot option.
3. Reset phone from settings menu.
Is that correct?

Once you have reset flash counter with triangle away, then just back up your data and fully wipe device to be on the safe side. Then just flash a stock rom using ODIN. And youre good to go.
Thanks,
But, i have just rooted & not installed any custom rom, so in this case also do i need to flash the stock ROM? Or i can just reset the flash counter using triangle away & return for warranty?
Using triangle away you can just reset counter, it doesn't unroot (triangle itself requires root )
You can simply unroot from supersu setting, or most clean way is to Reflash stock rom.
Remember before reseting flash counter, make sure you have stock kernel and recover, otherwise it will raise again.

[Q] Restoring S3 to factory condition?

Hi everyone,
I have a Bell GS3 that I'm going to be selling to pay for a GS4 upgrade. I have it rooted and running Liquidsmooth, I'd like to restore it so it's like it came from factory. I have the I747MVLDLK4_I747MOYCDLK4_BMC file along with the Odin flashing program. I know there's something about tripping a flash counter, is there a way to check if it's been activated and if so reset it? I have an extended warranty on the phone so if the person does need a repair will not have to deal with certain problems.
I'd appreciate any help.
Your flash counter most likely has been tripped. I'm pretty sure the only way not to trip it is to use the root injected odin files. As soon as you install custom recovery and boot into the recovery the counter will be tripped though.
Here is how I have done the process.
Factory reset device.
Install triangle away to reset the counter
boot into download mode to flash stock firmware with odin.
If coming from a cm based Rom I find it best to restore/flash a touchwiz Rom first then factory reset, triangle away, Odin.
Hope that helps

Thanks for the reply. I may be misreading what you posted, are you saying that once it's been tripped there's no way to actually go back completely?
I'll do the steps like you suggested. Thank you.

If you use triangle away before you flash stock it will be the same as it was before you rooted = 0 counter. You can root with the root injected stock images and keep the counter intact. Once you install a custom recovery it will trip your counter.
It doesn't matter to someone who flashes roms if the counter is tripped until you need to sell or return for warranty. Triangle away before flashing stock will reset the counter and give you stock with a clean counter and ready to sell/return for service.

I don't use Triangle Away with my rooted factory ROM. It is only needed when installing a custom recovery or custom ROM, and some older Odin installed rooting.
You don't need Triangle Away to operate a custom ROM or modification... it is a nice app to remove the yellow triangle warning screen during bootup if that is happening.
I recommend Saferoot.zip as it is the safest way to root and can be easily removed within the SuperSU settings.
Right now I am happy with stock ROM, using Xposed... I don't think 4.4.x will do much better, as I get over 8 hours battery time with normal use, and have my customizations the way I like them.

you can be in stock firmware but you need root to use triangle away. oh you also need to be using a stock recovery as well if not the counter will stick to 1. anyway it only work to clear the normal counter. it wont work on knox counter.

Stock firmware, stock recovery, and you need root. TriangleAway needs to be the last modification you make before de-rooting.
Out of curiosity, are you sending it back to Samsung or selling it? The only real reason to reset the flash counter is for warranty work, or to clean it up before selling it. There's no real need to reset that counter otherwise; there's no functional change from doing it. Just FYI.
