**SOLVED**
This feature was removed by a recent Samsung update per the Apple Lawsuit. I found the solution in THIS thread.
These are the commands I used to fix it.
Code:
adb send GoogleQuickSearchBox /sdcard/GoogleQuickSearchBox
adb shell
su
mount -o rw,remount /system
cat /system/app/GoogleQuickSearchBox_USA.apk >/sdcard/GoogleQuickSearchBox_USA.apk.orig
rm /system/app/GoogleQuickSearchBox_USA.apk
reboot
#
# once the phone comes back
#
adb shell
su
mount -o rw,remount /system
cat /sdcard/GoogleQuickSearchBox.apk >/system/app/GoogleQuickSearchBox_USA.apk
chmod 644 /system/app/GoogleQuickSearchBox_USA.apk
reboot

Already tried that... the heading is "Google Search Settings" and the only option listed is "Google Search". My Vibrant (ICS) and my wife (stock froyo) shows a list of checkboxes there. I don't see that on my Titanium (ICS)
Can someone running stock ICS confirm or disprove the behavior? Is this normal?
I tried clearing settings from "Google Search" (Version 1.4.1.396604). If I disable it, the search button doesn't work at all.

Very interesting... Are you running Stock 4.0.4? Where did you get the first screenshot from?
Found it!
The key was the words "searchable items" in your description. I googled that and found Samsung had to remove it due to the Apple lawsuit!
Here's an XDA thread with a solution.

Hello, I have an epic running the syndicate rom and words with friends is not working on it. Whenever I open it it says the page cannot be found and when I click it it opens up the browser and the browser says the page cannot be found. I think its a broken and I. Cannot open the game because of this issue. Does anyone know a fix?
Thanks
Wow the search feature must really be broken. This was discussed multiple times in the rom thread.
Download addfree from the market and use the revert option

Download an app called "adfree" from the market. Open it up. Click revert, and then the game will work. May take a reboot though
Lol... damn search function

What about this method will this work on the epic:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11895767&postcount=25
I dont want to have to revert back all the time will this unblock only words with friends or is the epic different??
Will this command work on our epic in terminal emulator??
Words with friends doesn't like adfree. You can either block ads with wwf, or wwf with ads. OR, you can use adfree and run
su root
mount -o rw,remount -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
vi /system/etc/hosts
?androidsdk.ads
dd ?mydas.mobi
dd
:wq
That way ads will still be on wwf, but not everywhere else.

This worked perfect!!!! Only ads in words for friends and dont have to revert and and have ads everywhere...
although it did add an ad in my flashlight app again but that seems to be it.. ill see if i can get rid of it
Question, ok the command worked but brough ads back to the flashlight app, does anyone know a command to put the newer host file just for the flashlight app or a host file that will block the flashlight app???

Pretty much any app that isn't the phone or contacts apk should be safe, too, I think.
(actual apps. Don't delete stuff like CertInstaller.apk or whatever. But if it shows up in your app drawer, it's generally okay to get rid of.)
The only thing I'm not sure about is the visual voicemail. It may act funny with the messages app, since there's a slider for it.
Cdrom.iso really shouldnt be removed. It can cause issues with adb and mounting usb storage. You can dissable the annoying vzw installer by dialing ##program# and hitting call. Enter six zeros for the password. Then go to feature settings and tap on cd rom and dissable it. Hit the menu button and select comit changes. Your phone will reboot and the vzw installer nag wont be there the next time you connect to your pc.

Delete from system/app with root explorer or uninstall/freeze with titanium backup.

Does it matter if I delete them vs. move the APKs to another location? Would I ever need them again for anything?
Well they'll still be taking up space if you move them to another location on the phone, but they wont run or be in your app drawer. If you want to have them just in case, you could always move them to the SD card, then your computer? I can't think of any reason that you'd need them though, even if you wanted them at a later time, you could find them on the market or with a quick googling.
I just back them up and then uninstall them.
I've added Apps (VCast.apk) to the list.

Hey everyone I tried doing some searching but these words are pretty common so I couldn't find much.
The problem is that I know that by pressing and holding the menu button I get to the search function but the problem is that it doesn't give me the launch menu like it did on my S2 t989 for example when I held the search key on my S2 t989 a "which app would you like to do this in" menu would come up that would give me direct access to apps like shazam, soundhound, and screencast. Is that feature completely gone or do I have to enable a setting or something for this? I really loved having that menu there.
Also another question about the search function that does come up. It does not seem to be the same full search function from before but only for the web. I used to be able to search the apps that are actually on my phone and launch them through that menu as well. Is that possible anymore or has that been disabled too?
Don't get me wrong I LOVE this phone so much I just miss those couple little things. Thanks!
Thank crapple for the change in search function. If you are rooted go to /system/app and find GoogleQuickSearchBox_USA.apk. renameto remove the __USA part.

At some point whatever action you're trying to do you probably checked the "use as default" box and now you don't get the choice. I still get to choose which app I use for most things, not sure how to go back and remove the default though.

EDIT - MODACO modified apks FOR ANY DEVICE are now up. No root required for these. Below is the original method using the Google Play version of Facebook Home .apk Chat heads will work etc!
****************************************************************************************************************************
So I've finally got Home working on my N4... I knew I'd get it working in the end. Now I've tried it - it's OK.
Instructions...
1. (ROOT NEEDED!) Change build.prop to GS3 / HTC One X etc... BuildPropEditor Just change ro.product.model from 'Nexus 4' to 'HTC One X'. REBOOT to take affect!
2. Delete other versions of FB Home from your phone. Ensure current Facebook AND Messenger apps are updated. Clear these apps data.
3. Download and install home.apk (This is the unmodified Google Play version).
4. Sign in. Facebook app settings > Enable Facebook Home.
5. Revert build.prop and REBOOT!
6. Hit thanks and ENJOY for a little while. Maybe. Then uninstall.

I changed everything I could but here... I think device, model and build are the most important.
thanks for the build prop values. I changed ro.product.device, ro.product.manufacturer ro.product.model ro.product.brand and ro.build.product to the ones you had for the One X. Not sure if all 5 were necessary, but they were easy enough to change, and I got facebook, messenger, and home installed and running then set them back to mako/LGE/Nexus 4/Google as necessary and rebooted, home is working just fine still
Finally got it working!
Cheers.
You are right. I'm sure not all are necessary. I was just making sure I guess.
The ones in the OP are the important ones (I think). Will change once someone confirms.

Thanks! That didn't take long haha, works perfectly. I think you should edit the thread so that people will know that they have to reboot in order for the new build.prop settings stick.
Rooted?
Stupid question, but is being rooted a necessity to edit build.prop / model name, etc. ? I tried, but it wouldnt let me save the new info. I'm assuming its cause I'm stock.
Thank you for the instructions wolf boy 1984!
I am having a doubt on step 2. Would you mind clarifying the following?
Is clearing data as in wiping user data from all apps (factory reset basically) or just wiping cache? I assume its would a factory reset, right?
Thanks!

Clear FB app data only!
Might not be necessary even...

Hi everyone,
Can't push the a "Allow" button when an app asks for a permission. (any apps)
Is it a known issue ? or it can be fixed somehow ?
Thanks again,
Do you have any apps running that do things like dim your screen or changed the color? Many of those are known to interfere with the package installer which I think comes into play when you press those buttons.

There is an app overlaying that is causing the issue.
Go to:
Settings > Apps > Configure apps (cog button at the top) > Special access > Draw over other apps
(note the path may be different on your phone, this is how its done on android N)
Turn off Permit drawing over other apps for the apps listed. Do it one by one. Between turning it off for each app, check and see if you can hit "OK" for new permissions.

I wonder if you did it right. So, to clarify, you denied all of the apps listed in the Draw over other apps menu the ability to draw over other apps? All switches to the left and grayed out? Then you tried to open an app that requests some kind of permission? The permission dialog opened but you were still unable to select "Allow"?
Had similara behavior. In my case it was the File Manager HD app.
Only appeared after OTA back to M from N preview.
