[APP] Facebook Home for Nexus 4 - Nexus 4 Themes and Apps

EDIT - MODACO modified apks FOR ANY DEVICE are now up. No root required for these. Below is the original method using the Google Play version of Facebook Home .apk Chat heads will work etc!
****************************************************************************************************************************
So I've finally got Home working on my N4... I knew I'd get it working in the end. Now I've tried it - it's OK.
Instructions...
1. (ROOT NEEDED!) Change build.prop to GS3 / HTC One X etc... BuildPropEditor Just change ro.product.model from 'Nexus 4' to 'HTC One X'. REBOOT to take affect!
2. Delete other versions of FB Home from your phone. Ensure current Facebook AND Messenger apps are updated. Clear these apps data.
3. Download and install home.apk (This is the unmodified Google Play version).
4. Sign in. Facebook app settings > Enable Facebook Home.
5. Revert build.prop and REBOOT!
6. Hit thanks and ENJOY for a little while. Maybe. Then uninstall.

I changed everything I could but here... I think device, model and build are the most important.

thanks for the build prop values. I changed ro.product.device, ro.product.manufacturer ro.product.model ro.product.brand and ro.build.product to the ones you had for the One X. Not sure if all 5 were necessary, but they were easy enough to change, and I got facebook, messenger, and home installed and running then set them back to mako/LGE/Nexus 4/Google as necessary and rebooted, home is working just fine still

Finally got it working!
Cheers.

You are right. I'm sure not all are necessary. I was just making sure I guess.
The ones in the OP are the important ones (I think). Will change once someone confirms.

Wait... So I can change the values, and then once home is running I can change them back? That doesn't seem right to me, but if it's true I'd be so down!

I can confirm that I changed my model back to Nexus 4, rebooted and Home is still there. Neat.

Thanks! That didn't take long haha, works perfectly. I think you should edit the thread so that people will know that they have to reboot in order for the new build.prop settings stick.

Rooted?
Stupid question, but is being rooted a necessity to edit build.prop / model name, etc. ? I tried, but it wouldnt let me save the new info. I'm assuming its cause I'm stock.

Thank you for the instructions wolf boy 1984!
I am having a doubt on step 2. Would you mind clarifying the following?
Is clearing data as in wiping user data from all apps (factory reset basically) or just wiping cache? I assume its would a factory reset, right?
Thanks!
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium

Need root I think. I didn't know Nexus owners stayed on stock!

Clear FB app data only!
Might not be necessary even...

Thanks OP, got Home working in minutes.
Either im doing something wrong or chat heads isnt working for me at the moment.
I'll try and use it for a while until Nova lures me back!
To be honest i'd rather see a twitter home launcher

Main Facebook app (not messenger h. Go to messages.Press friend image...
Or receive a message and it will pop up.

any tricks on getting all the notifications to work in home like on the HTC First?

Does anyone know any good stock Android-like SMS / MMS apps?
Personally I want to do away with anything LG on this phone. Other than the phone LOL. I can't even activate my work e-mail with the LG e-mail program.
I broke my calendar tonight trying the same type of thing. I have the original LG APKs, but can't get it to work. : /

I deleted them again, but I can't push them. I get a message that it's a read only file system. Are you using the shell mode? I can go sudo in ADB shell, but I don't know how to do anything from inside of the shell.
I fixed it. Had to do a hard reset. I was shocked after the reset that I still had Super User and no Calendar. I started to try to factory reset my ROM using the LG software, but apparently you can't do that. I tried to install the calendar after going into panic mode and I was able to install it and calendar provider. I'm using the normal Google calendar now, not the LG calendar. Which is what I was originally trying to do when I broke it. I just have to apply all of my settings again.

The stock keyboard is pretty terrible in my opinion. I didn't notice any particular speed increase. If anything, it might have actually gotten slower.

How to get Google Wallet (from Play Store) on all Galaxy Nexus! OP updated.

From your phone open the browser and head to https://play.google.com/store. (Tip: You may want to clear data and defaults on browser and Market before doing this.)
Search for “Google Wallet.” (If your browser prompts you to open the Market, don’t. Just stay in the browser.)
When the results come back, tap on the Google Wallet icon.
Tap the “Install” button from within the browser and then sign into your Google account. (Again, this is all from the browser, not the Market app.)
Once you have signed in, you should be redirected back to the Market page in the browser.
Tap the back button until you are prompted for the Market or Browser again, this time choosing the Market.
The Android Market should open to the Google Wallet page with an option to install.
**Note 1: It has recently come to my attention that you will have to change to a Google build (although some custom ROM's are fine) in order for this to work for you.
**Note 2: If you are an international user, you must be rooted and have the app MarketEnabler installed. You can use T-Mobile or you can use my untested method of using AT&T as your carrier and may not need to take any of the steps above.
**Note 3: I highly recommend installing the older apk from the Themes and Apps subforum.
**Note 4: If Google Wallet throws up a banner that says "Unsupported Device," it's nothing to worry about. It's because you're rooted!
Here's a video tutorial to help! updated video.
Thought I'd share this because it worked perfect for my Galaxy Nexus on T-Mobile. Enjoy!
Here's a couple screen shots.

I tried clearing the data on the browser, but not the market. Trying now...
I had to clear data and cache on market and browser and try a couple times before it actually got around the "this item is not available for your carrier" message in the Market app, I had logged in on market.android.com, then after choosing browser for the app and it logged in, hit back and the chooser came up again then used Market and it opened straight to the install prompt and worked

The procedure I used was actually posted on engadget yesterday, but OP's is pretty much the same... don't know if they fixed it by now but it did work for me overnight. It's basically logging in on the browser then getting lucky when you back out and choose the market instead it goes right to the accept & install screen instead of the first app screen where it has the info for it and says "this is not available from your carrier"
It's working for me. My problem was I was clearing the browser data after every failure. It seems like the first time will fail every time, but if you sign out and start the browser process over without clearing the data it works. [Q] Is there a way to get Facebook Sync to work?

I really rely on Facebook contacts sync as it has pretty much all the numbers i need. I know there are apps like Friendcaster and Haxsync but those do not sync the numbers with the profiles. My GNex is running stock 4.1 right now and it is rooted I believe, since i rooted it myself last night (i think i did it right). Is there something that will allow me to Facebook Sync my contacts and still keep the standard OS without noticing anything changed. Or i guess in other words, how can i quickly enable it so that it can sync and then delete whatever i put to enable it to do that so that I am back at square one just this time with all my contacts I would backup and put on my computer. Using a standard GSM Gnex on the latest Jellybean update, I hope I was descriptive as possible. Also I am a noob so please don't go too crazy on me, I've never actually done any of this stuff but i just want my contacts so i can use the stock until im comfortable doing more of this

Download Friendcaster from the app store, just run it side by side with the official FB app. I did that for my fiance, even though friendcaster is more robust.
She loves it now though because she can finally get realtime push notifications from facebook

I don't think you guys are understanding what I am saying lol, I understand these apps give you the contacts. This is what I want yes, but what they lack is adding the contacts WITH the phone NUMBERS. I want the the phone numbers. I am trying to get the phone numbers of with the contacts lol am i clear yet :crying:
Exactly. I want numbers too. I have like 5 people synced to my Google account. The rest are on Facebook. Friend caster only syncs them to my "people" app. If I go to the phone app the numbers aren't there. When I open the menu and select "choose contacts to display" I select friend caster and it says 0 contacts. Looking for contacts phone numbers not just names and HD photos...

Custom ROMs usually have Facebook sync working fine, you could also search how to modify a stock google image to allow facebook sync, if I'm not mistaken you'll need root and busybox, you will need to edit a text file and run a script that will update a database in your phone... Unfortunately I don't have this information handy, so, you'll need to search for it if you want to modify stock rom (remember, you need root), or, you can always use custom roms that do not have this limitation.

You tried to export them? There must be a way once you do get the contacts synced to save them into the phone and not just under the synced profile that way you can export them. I tried to export them off my other phone running gingerbread and put them onto my Gnex but it was a no-go the file i extracted had 0 bytes for some reason it just didn't want to export the contacts at all.. Was hoping it was still possible but I suppose its not
This is from Facebook site. Only option I found for you, would be to export them and add them to Gmail.

I guess there is no way to bypass this at all. I checked that out and the extension is deleted and with more research apparently this used to work until facebook updated their coding so it doesn't work anymore.

what apps have you removed after root?

Just wanting to start a list as to which apps/files have been been checked to see if after removing won't mess up the phone. I want to debloat this as much as possible
I've removed all at&t apps except smart wifi
removed Polaris office, live wallpapers, Facebook, city ID
want to remove YP but it says LG YP and looks like there is some link to it from the contact book that may break, if someone has already done that please post.
Not going to touch any Google apps yet since looks like some are getting security errors on reboot

You have to root it and then use titanium backup to remove or freeze apps.
Better to freeze them first to make sure you don't delete something that will cause issues later.
Hope this helps.

Not a good idea at all until we have usable recovery. As linked above, some of the apps are intertwined tightly within the lg security and you will lock down your phone if you remove the wrong app. The linked poster removed Google Movies and that borked his phone.
Freezing is fine for me for now. It is not as if the bloat is causing lag, this phone is fast.
The security issue seems to be happening if Google apps were tampered. I've removed every AT&T app except myAT&T along with the Browser and Email app and even the EasySettings, and haven't gotten the security screen.
I removed most of the ATT Apps. Also got rid of LG YP. All it did was make it so the yp link in contacts doesn't work. Just an error message, no force closing.
Also added 4.2 keyboard and camera as well as SVoice. Replaced LGs weird browser with stock ICS. Loving this thing so far.
I've frozen everything with AT&T and YP in it, so far no problems. I'm also using everything I restored from my SGSIII. Apex, SwiftKey X, Handcent, etc...

No go, moved it to /system/app, chmod 644, deleted /data/dalvik-cache and rebooted. Still Force closes. Any chance you can share your APK? Mine is supposed to be from the GSM Galaxy Nexus but you never know...
EDIT: Nevermind, just grabbed a Browser.apk off some random CyanogenMod 9 ROM. Didn't like it moved to /system/app, but took it fine when sideloaded as a regular APK. Go figure.
Wow, Google should've kept this browser. It blows Chrome out of the water in terms of smoothness and functionality.

Did it the same way as mentioned for the browser. Could never get photo sphere working, but i like the interface of the 4.2 camera so much more.
I once had a lg nitro hd and after removing all the bloat i safely could i found that my battery life was amazing. Has anyone experienced that on this phone too?
We should make a list of what we are freezing/removing.
Also, I've been trying to get the browser trick to work all morning... no dice. I can't even get it to show up. Had my friend send me browser.apk from his AOKP rom, and just realized its Jelly Bean.... might be the problem. Haven't tried the camera trick yet..
EDIT:
Ok I got the browser working. Used CM9 rom. Its sooooo fast. I've uninstalled Firefox, and Chrome... Now on to find the camera from 4.2
Ok, I can't get the 4.2 camera working to save my life. It FCes everytime I try it. The gallery is working fine. Used the files from here:

We should make a list of what we are freezing/removing.
Also, I've been trying to get the browser trick to work all morning... no dice. I can't even get it to show up. Had my friend send me browser.apk from his AOKP rom, and just realized its Jelly Bean.... might be the problem. Haven't tried the camera trick yet..
EDIT:
Ok I got the browser working. Used CM9 rom. Its sooooo fast. I've uninstalled Firefox, and Chrome... Now on to find the camera from 4.2

Google Stock Dialer/Contacts apks

Here's the stock google dialer and contacts app I pulled from my nexus 6 when i had it. It's not the motorola framework dialer and contacts, but pure google stock. They are in separate folders. I've also have a few that I've pulled from the web as well. I hate the ugly skin that lg uses, and miss the true material look from Google.
You HAVE to be rooted for these to even remotely work. Use root explorer or whatever app you use, mount rw and install as system apk (go to system>priv-app). Folder will need rwxr-xr-x permissions. Give app r-r-rw permissions. So far, contacts are working and I've gotten the google in-call ui to work by placing the apk in the lg in-call ui after renaming the original lg-ui. Can't get the dialer to install. LG skin is deeply rooted in thier framework, so it's kind of a pain. I'll keep digging into this to make some progress. In the mean time, if anyone else wants to chip in and help out, please do so.
In the link to my drive folder there will be 4 files. One of them is a flashable zip named GoogleContactsDialer (credits to whoever put this zip together. Wasn't me). Another should be the dialer in non flashable zip, and the other files are the respective standalone apks. I would suggest flashing the flashable zip, as it has the libs folder included.

**UPDATE**
Ok everyone, I have a quick second to give an update (getting up at 0430 is killing me right now lol) on things in reference to the dialer. Make sure you are using the flashable zip. The separate apks are ok, but the zip makes things easier.
Basically most hassle free method I have used to get it to be the primary dialer and contacts app is by using TB to freeze these 2 LG Dialer and Contact applications that are listed below.
*Call 4.60.79.10
*Contacts 4.56.18
I'm using KLWP and Nova for most of my homescreens. I'm linking the Google dialer apk to whatever phone KLWP icon using Nova Activities>Google Dialer>Phone(com.android.dialer.DialtactsActivity; make sure you select this one). For those that use Zooper, the same method would apply.
In reference to getting the dialer icon to show up in the app drawer on its own, I'm still working on that.

Got it to install. The Google dialer works too. The LG dialer kind of takes over every now and then.

Glad it worked for you. I used the flashable zip, but can't get the dialer to install. What did you to get it running? The contacts app works for me, but like you said the LG UI takes control sometimes. I may remove the LG call/contacts apks and see if google will run by default. Of course, I'll back everything up before I do.

What launcher are you using? I'm using the Google launcher with xposed. I also downloaded nova to use the activities widget to set the Google dialer.

Using Nova. Did you use the flashable zip or did you install the apk that I pulled by itself?

Sadly, I wouldn't trust Truecaller with my contact's info. WAY too much has come out about their bull**** practices.

Sorry guys that I've been MIA. Work and personal life have been really busy. I didn't remove the LG apk but just froze them with TB. So far the LG Contacts app doesn't override which is good, and I've set Google Contacts as my default. I'm trying True Caller but honestly don't like it. The Google dialer kicks in but it's random, and it doesn't show in my Nova app drawer. I'll get back to working on this when things slow down for me.

I am, for now, stuck at the dialer. Not enough time to play with it and, as you mentioned, it is not showing up as an installed app in the launcher. What did you do to get a launcher icon for it? I am running the latest Nova beta for now.

Updated the post. Let me know if this helps you any. I'm still working on the dialer showing up in the app drawer or just being able to place the icon on the homescreen. Going to play around with different launchers on my next few days off starting Sunday.

I wonder if one you that's had success with this might be able to offer some assistance...I flashed the Google contacts and dialer zip and froze the two LG files recommended by the OP and all call functionality was disabled. I could launch the Google dialer but could not receive calls. Did I miss a step?

Like you said, it is working - mostly. I no longer see the dreaded LG dialer (yippee!) but a couple of minor anomalies remain.
On an incoming call I do not get a full scree caller id and swipe to answer as I did on the N4 device;
Like you, I had to use Nova to create the desktop icon (which is no big deal I suppose);
When I bring up the dialer I see a "Speed Dial" tab but I don't see all my favorites (starred contacts). I tried clearing cache and data for the dialer but is not showing me the same starred contacts as the Contacts app;
Other than the above it seems to work quite well.
[ EDIT ] It seems that there is a difference between the contacts storage that LG maintains and what Google Contacts/Dialer maintains. I cleared data and cache for both, the LG Dialer and the LG Contacts app - note that in my case they were both frozen so I had to use ROM Toolbox to do this - and had the system re-sync contacts with Google. All of the sudden ALL my favorites show up as expected and, incoming caller Id is now displaying as it did on the old Nexus 4. Yippee! Apparently some minor issues can be corrected by reinitializing the contacts database on the phone.

Did you start out with a clean, well working system or could it have remnants of previous attempts to install a dialer? Most of my troubles came from the fact that I missed to clean somethng up from a previous attempt.
Essentially, I did not do much different from the OP. Starting with a clean system (I backup frequently with TWRP when I experiment with new things!) I flashed the zip file, rebooted, created the desktop icon for phone, froze the 2 LG modules with TiBu. I also copied the Google Dialer apk to the LGInCallUI folder in priv-app and renamed (but not deleted) the LG version which did not seem to make any difference to usage (I was hoping for a full screen caller Id).
As noted above, it seems to be working quite nicely with the 3 1 caveats I listed.
