Any way to Flash a CMW Firmware via Odin? - Samsung Captivate Glide

I want to try a ICS build rooted, but i cant install a CWM because my phone freeze (i try a lot of things, i have 2 thread a bout that but never found a solution) the only Version that work for me is de ICS,so, i want to install one rooted ICS via odin.Is that possible?
EDIT: sorry, i made a mistake with the title, i want a rooted rom ocustom rom (ICS) via odin

CWM ROMs will not install via Odin. Make sure the ROM is made for the Captivate Glide. If it isn't, it won't work. Make sure the ROM comes with a kernel built for ICS. When flashing the ROM, are there any errors shown in CWM?

try it, there is the solution in that thread. Do exactly what say in the thread and everything will work.
Just a question, your captivate glide is the canadian version? (Rogers)

I see that the Glides with problems are the rogers version, maybe something in software is not the samewith ATT.
first flash the GB kernel (use the overclocked, that was the one that i use), dont select any in odin (f reset for example), restart the phone manually and get back in odin onmediatly and flash the rooted rom. after that, the phone will boot in GB,now flashwit superoneclick ICS and follow the rest of the thread.
I dont know, but its works fine when i dont select any in odin (f reset, etc)

A much simpler way to root your phone is to just Odin clockworkmod recovery then wipe all and format all and flash a rooted ROM.. Takes 5 min

yako140891 is having the same problem that i has before, and i now that is software problem because is fixed in my phone, but dont know exactly why the phone freeze.
PD: all the phones that have this problem, are from Rogers, maybe is something different but dont know

[HELP] Flash Official ATT ICS I927UCLJ3 onto Rogers I927R ??

Hi,
I've searched but cannot find a simple guide to flash a stock Rogers i927R (GB non-rooted) to ATT ICS I927UCLJ3.
I'm outside the US and Rogers may never offer the update via Keis, so I think flashing is the only option right now.
I've read various links but they seem different depending on the starting point.
I don't necessarily need root, just would like the official ICS update.
I've downloaded Odin and the I927UCLJ3 from sammobile.com.
Any help appreciated for a newb, with steps and why each step is needed.
Thanks.
You need to install the md5 that you downloaded.
First off make sure your phone is disconnected from the computer.
Put your phone into download mode by pushing volume up and power at the same time.
Plug phone into computer.
Make sure you have the md5 you have downloaded in the pda slot of Odin and the box beside it is checked.
Hit start and you should see a box in the top left corner start doing stuff.
When its done you are done.
Sorry I'm not at a computer but this is pretty much what ya do

Also make sure the usb plug is a port that is intergrated on the motherboard

According to that guide I need CWMR as well, which is for making a backup of the system.
Does having it installed have any adverse effect, such as future updates, etc ?

I'm the same, a newb at android flashing which is why I'm just data gathering at the moment, so wont be doing this for at least a few weeks until I feel comfortable.
Plus, would like to wait and see if Rogers release an official update as well.
Might need to find a video of it being done with similar steps.
Still waiting on a reply to these questions from this thread:
1. Do I need CWMR installed ?
2. Does the device have to be rooted first before flashing the ATT ICS md5 ?

No and No, CWMS is a custom recovery program that takes the place of the stock android recovery and gives you backup and recovery options as well as flashing via the program from a zip file.Rooting just lets programs access protected files and folders from the operating system aka root access = access to root files.
Flashing from Odin has nothing to do with root or custom recovery.

Thanks, starting to make more sense now.
So basically all I need is Odin and the ATT ICS I927UCLJ3.
1. Will I still be able to flash other ROM's after flashing ATT ICS I927UCLJ3, including going back to stock GB for warranty purposes ?
2. What are the risks if I dont install CWMR ?

Yes,you can install other roms after you flash it,it isnt permanent.
There are no risks for nor installing a custom recovery, but if you are concerned about returning to GB then install a custom recovery and do a complete backup of your GB before you do the flash to JB.

stingernwo, Does your GPS still work ?
I found after I upgraded to ICS I couldn't use GPS anymore.. but when I reverted to Rogers stock GB .. GPS worked again like a charm....
CWM - it's not needed to flash with Odin, its only needed to flash your phone with any .zip files (many addons/roms are in .zip format)
Odin is used primarily for STOCK rom flashing.
CWM is needed to Root the phone when it's ICS and to make Nandroid (full complete snapshot) backups. If you explore your SD Card on the computer you can rename the backups to something easier to identify than dates but don't put spaces in the file names or you get checksum errors when restoring.
If you want a rooted GB you'll need to download the specific rooted glide firmware for either ATT or Rogers (Download links are in the Glide root guide)

I see now.
Glad you mentioned about the GPS not working as I need that. Will have to hold off on the ATT ICS update.
What I would really like is a rooted ROM, preferably ICS so that I can use Directory Bind to redirect large game data on the external_sd card.

No, My GPS Only worked fully on the stock Rogers GB .. I went right to ICS with literom and a pre-rooted UCLH2 rom.
However, I'm happy to spread the news that TheGreaterGood's 0.8.4 literom has fully working GPS, All the ice cream sandwich goodness and some other built in goodies. I'm very happy with this Rom so far!!
It just came out so there's mixed reviews on battery, but I figure if I keep GPS turned off except the odd time (which is hard since i've been without it so long) then it should be ok!

It has an install wizard so you can choose to install or not install the calendar. Trust me, I have calendar .. my phone would be useless to me without it.

1) Finally decide to flash the Stock UCLJ3 Rooted AT&T ICS Rom from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1994902
Once I was satisfied I had done enough backups with CWMR, it was actually quite simple, and the flash itself took less than 10mins.
2) The only issue was with the GPS which I got to work using these 2 threads:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1239713
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&highlight=gps
Essentially had to make minor changes to 2 files:
/etc/gps.conf
NTP_SERVER=0.oceania.pool.ntp.org [changed from: noth-america.pool.ntp.org] since I'm in Australia.
/etc/sirfgps.conf
EXTERNAL_LNA=0 [changed from 1]
FREQUENCY_AIDING=1 [changed from 0]
ATT_NETWORK_OPERATOR=0 [changed from 1 since I'm not on AT&T]
Rebooted and ran 'GPS Test', once it found 8 satellites and locked onto 3 of them within a few minutes I then ran Google Maps while driving in the car and it stayed locked onto my position.
3) Just a note, when I flashed the Pure Stock UCLJ3 over the previous Rogers GB 2.3.6, then booted up, the phone had re-locked and was requesting the Network Unlock Key.
Luckily I already had the Unlock Key, because a few months after buying the device, it turned off after running out of battery, and on the next boot it was requesting the code.
The place I bought it from provided the key which I kept in case it were to happen again.
Entering the same Key on ICS worked of course.
4) On the plus side, on Vodafone in Australia:
Rogers Stock 2.3.6 = highest 3G speed was 14.4Mbit
AT&T Rooted Stock 4.0.4 = highest 3G speed of 21.6Mbit
This is in the same areas I travel and at home.

thank you so much for your answer
so i think i will keep doing that long thing again and again
That's a really tedious procedure you're following. When I try a custom ROM and don't like it, all I do is:
1) If switching between an ICS ROM and a JB ROM and vice versa, reflash the kernel, then reflash the ROM.
2) If moving from one ICS ROM to another, or one JB ROM to another, just reflash the ROM.
3) If moving from ICS/JB to GB or vice versa, flash the stock ROM, flash the kernel, and then flash the custom ROM.
You don't need to keep on flashing the stock ROM, rooting it, installing CWM, then installing the custom ROM. Kernels, as far as I know, usually come with recovery installed. If you're in a bootloop, just follow the pertinent steps from the list outlined above.

Go read the stickys, get some basic knowledge and learn something for yourself, then ask questions about what you don't fully understand, on an existing thread that you found while Googling.
bootloader locked or unlocked because it sounds like you have a locked bootloader, if it is unlocked then why dont you flash a kernel eg. kernel rush with CWM already on it ?

You don't need to install CWM again, even if you're in a boot loop. Once the phone reboots, keep pressing the "down" volume rocker, as you always do, and you'll enter into recovery. If you're moving to a different Android version (for example, ICS to JB), switch off your phone and flash the appropriate kernel. Then all you need to do is reflash your previous ROM or flash any other ROM that you want. However, that's only possible if you've download your previous and/or other ROMs onto your SD card, too. Do you do that before you flash?
I don't have any experience with locked bootloaders, but the user above IS of the opinion that you might be on one. If that's the reason you're having to go through so many steps to flash a ROM, why don't you try unlocking the bootloader of your phone? I'm more than certain your phone's not covered under warranty anymore, and unlocking the bootloader is definitely not going to fry your phone or anything of the sort.

[Q] Can't flash back to ,62

Hello! I'm having a problem with my xperia arc S, I tried to install a ROM (ULTIMATE HD 3.1) but I didn't have the wifi modules, so my phone got stuck on boot, so I figured that I got a bootloop, and went to flash the kernel (562), root again again and flash the new kernel (587) to try and install the ROM again, but the phone didn't root, but I flashed the .587 kernel and can't flash it back to .562. I can't figure what's the problem the flashtool says it's flashed but in setting the "compilation number" just says that it has the new kernel.
So my problem is how can I flash back to .562 and root the phone? I already tried this a few times ([url]http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2118343[/url]), but it dosen't work. what else can I do? Try with another kernel?
I also tried this, but it didn't work http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2219711. I don't know if it helps but i have the bootloader locked.
Sorry if repost, google but didn't find anything related. thanks anyway.

Had a similar problem, caused by wrong kernel (at least i think so). Anyho, there was no "repair" option for me either.
What you should do is:
- Flash back to stock GB firmware (0.62)
- Root (using eRoot, it's a one click procedure.)
- Install CWM using RecoveryX is the simplest way i'd say
- Flash the kernel which Jared proposed (can't remember which one sorry)
- boot into CWM, and follow the instructions to install UltimadeHD rom. I'd suggest Tesla's instructions, they are fail-proof. Remember to click on "unlocked bootloader" if your bootloader is locked.

I have an Arc S with ICS, since I upgraded to ICS the telephone are incredible slow
I realy want to use this rom:

2. Root and install CWM
3. Download the rom and your device patch from downloads and put them in SD Card
4. Boot into recovery
5. Wipe Data/factory reset
6. Go to advanced-Wipe Dalvik Cache and go back
7. Go to Mounts and Storage-Format /System and go back
8. Flash the rom and device patch and wifi modules
9. Reboot and enjoy the Dual Core Xperia Arc and Arc S
But here are a few questions:
1. What means Stock. 62/ 42?

Ok, does it mean that I need to have 62/42 on my phone, because I have ICS(official) on my phone for the moment.
Are there any people here who have tried this rom lately? Seems to be very stable, or are there any other rom that are even more stable?
Also the member on this forum, XtremeSilencer. Who made this app is banned, why? Is it something with the app?

62/42 means you have to have original firmware with build number 4.0.2.A.0.42 or 4.0.2.A.0.62.
Are you going to unlock your bootloader?
Because if you had done it already you dont need to flash first the stock GB .62/.42, and the atomic rom itself (or a kernel) installs automatically the CWM.
If you dont want to unlock it, then yes, the instructions you paste are the ones you must follow.
_______________
If i recall correctly he was banned because of his attitude, kinda arrogant.
And, dont know if its "official" but there is a 8.0 version in the last pages.

I used this rom for quite a while and i was very content with it. Fastest rom i've tried so far, stable (almost no crashes or things like that) and everything is working fine (like hdmi or notification led).
He got banned because he created a 2nd account here on xda which is not allowed. He also disrespected other rules but there's nothing wrong with the rom itself.

Haha lol, no
Don't unlock your bootloader if you have no idea how to do it.
You will find steps 5-7 in cwm recovery. Please inform yourself about how to flash a rom (root, boot to cwm etc.), otherwise you will screw things up eventually.

Are there any good and "very easy" guide out there?
So, maybe I should try another rom.
Which rom with locked bootloader based on Gingerbread is the most stablized?
The things I do with my phone is web-browsning, talk and taking pictures. No gaming...

Don't ask. Comparing ROM is forbidden on XDA. Try the ROM out yourself and see which one suits you best. If you continue to ask for "the most stabilized ROM", I will call for a mod to close this thread.

[Q] i8160 - stuck @ boot - no recovery possible

Hello guys!
I have an Ace2 (which was on Android 2.3.6) and tried to install CM11. At first it didn't work, because I had no CWM. So I flashed a Kernel with CWM and installed the CM11-ROM via CWM. That was no problem. But when I was setting up the ROM, I realised that I had no mobile/phone connection at all.
So I tried to install a few stock firmwares via Odin. The installation always finishes with no errors. But when I boot the phone it does not get any further than to the Samsung-startscreen.
And I can't access the recovery mode anymore! Only Odin-Mode is still possible.
Is there an option to get my phone back to some kind of stock state.
Please help me out!

Try to re-flash into stock rom, the jellybean version. If you had a problem with the network maybe there's something wrong with the csc file

That's what I'm trying now. I thought I already tried to downgrade to GB but after looking on the filenames of the different firmwares I tried, I noticed that they are all JB's.
Thank you for the replys. Currently I'm waiting for my GB-firmware to download...
You havr to use the 3 part firmware to downgrade.

Where do I get that firmware from?!
Link is somewhere in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2141930
if u will get bootloop after installing GB, go into recovery (if u will get that possibility) and wipe it, btw, did i understood well? U flashed CM11 when u have been on GB?
---------- Post added at 07:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:17 PM ----------
U can also try to flash stock GB/JB (depends on which firmware u have now) kernel separatly. Ramdisk (u have recovery in it) is flashed with kernel so it can help

NOW I KNOW TOO! :silly:
I have to stock upgrade to JB first, BEFORE I flash custom JB ROMs.
I'm already loading a 3-part firmware, from that thread you gave me. Although the first link did not work, I hope there is the same (3-part) firmware in the second link.
U mean u are downloading from this link http://d-h.st/AZN ? (I8160XXLK6.zip)
Yes, its definetly GB stock rom, i was forced to use I8160XXLK6 (not from this link, but still) when i messed up my phone few weeks ago (same problem i could enter only odin-mode)

Yep, that's exactly what I'm downloading @ the moment.
And those are the 3 parts for Odin which should bring the phone back to GB-stock?
PDA: CODE_GT-I8160_I8160XXLK6_CL1211243_REV00_user_SEC_KEY_LK6_4G.tar
CSC: CSC_GT-I8160-MULTI-CSC-OXELF1_SEC_KEY_4G.tar
PIT: GT-I8160_EUR_XX_4G
Did I get that right?
I just don't want to mess it up again...
And btw:
I already tried a I8160XXLK6 but it was a single-file firmware and had no effect on my problem.
I need the 3-parts including CSC and PIT, right?
It doesnt work? Huh dunno why.
Lets trust @teddysten and upgrade to JB, it might work
If it wont u will have to do some research and find 3-part GB rom
The single-file firmware did not work for me!
I haven't tried the 3-part firmware yet, from the link that you gave me. In about 10 minutes the download will be finished and I'm going to try it immediately!
Well. Remember that after flashing first booting (samsung logo ANIMATION) takes a while.
if u will still have this issue after downgrading to GB then upgrade it from this to JB anyway because it might work (dont ask me how, i dont know how so i wont explain). For now im out and ill visit XDA tommorow (earliest).
soo Good Luck and i hope that others will help u too if u will get some problems.
I am here if you need help
What version of you Odin do you have ?
Ok...
I downloaded the 3-part firmware to get back to GB stock.
That worked.
Then I installed the original JB-firmware from my provider.
That worked too.
So I'm happy again and everything is working!
Thanx a lot guys!!!!! :highfive:

Well you've learnt your lesson. Never try to flash from GB to KK
Sent from my GT-I8160 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Thank you so much. I was in this EXACT situation (GB to KK) and tried everything; pretty much every GB single-file ROM I could file. The 3-part ROM did the trick though! DD I'm literally so grateful right now I put in the effort to sign up and post this thank you message... that's a lot of effort for me xD
