I can use the headphone jack but its not a clean source.. like a line out.
I have audiophile headphones and want to connect the incredible to my fiio e17 portable dac/headphone amplifier... the best sound comes from a line out from the usb that will get amped from my dac/amp... then get sent to my headphones. Since i have my incredible sitting around.
a couple of companys make high end mp3/amplified portable players.. the Vamp from vmoda is a portable amp that allows an iphone 4 to doc in it is $600 so thats $600 plus an iphone 4.. Ibasso makes a high end android player with a awesome amp... is $800.. Hifiman makes an awesome portable mp3 player that can drive some pretty hard to drive headphones is $600..
So if i can use a clean line out audio signal from my free incredible and connect it to the line in from my pretty good Fiio dac/amp then i have a pretty darn inexpensive solution to my sensitive/subjective ears.
sorry to get too detailed.. but i am a audiophile with a severely limited budget.

Well, I did not know that. I would think the closest thing you will find is the video output cables to do this job. If memory serves, it is the standard left and right audio channels, and video. Of course you would need another cable to convert to 3.5mm jack, which is not a very clean or good looking method.

HTC EVO External Mic

I was wondering if anyone has tried any external Microphones (connected to the Headphone jack) on the HTC EVO to get better sound quality on Video recording? I have found a few external microphones that I was thinking about trying but before investing in that, thought I would ask the group. Below are some links to some Microphones I thought about trying. As I cannot add links yet I have broken it up below.

Thank you for your assistance.
Uuuhh...it's a headphone jack, not a microphone jack. In other words, output not input. Where's my face palm pic at?

Oh jeez, you should find that pic and take a real good look at it.
Evo External MIC
So it is not set up for wired headsets which would have a MIC. I would think that this would be standard in all phones for people that don't want bluetooth....
Wired Headset
According to this site there is 3.5mm wired headsets for the EVO.

Yes it does, sombdy just wanted to try and be a jackass to someone to make his day better.
It is set up for wired mic headset, don't know if when recording video if it would use that input or not, worth trying though.

Thank you for the response. I knew the answer about the headset just was being facetious, and the next post was to prove it. I was just wondering if anyone has tried it yet.
I know there has been a few breakdowns of the EVO, Has anyone come up with the wireing schematic for the EVO yet, to see what type of jack it is and what Pins are actually connected to that jack?
Thanks again.
It can take a standard headphone OR headphone/mic combo. Maybe a DIY super microphone? Use the standard headphone/mic cable and add a amplified omni directional mic?
I use a wired headphone/mic combo that I got with an old blackberry and the mic works fine on that

I believe RadioShack has splitters that will let you plug a regular mic into the headset jack.

Small portable headphone amp

I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with any small headphone amps for use with a cellphone. I need something small, battery or DC powered and relatively cheap. I'm not looking for audiophile quality here, just something to increase the volume in my car with its crappy stock speakers without any distortion.

Headphone jack speakers (3.5mm) ?

I know this is an older post but you should look into Cmoy headphone amps.

fiio E6. Cheap but don't expect a huge raise in quality or volume

Different frequencies from dock compared to headphone jack?

I have the car dock, and an FM modulator (I know the FM modulator isn't the best choice, but it is all that I can use right now).
Anyway if I plug the FM modulator into the headphone jack, I get much more bass compared to plugging it into car dock.
I am running CM9 RC1, but to be honest it has done it on all of the ROMs. Is there any way to get the sound to improve from the car dock to AT LEAST equal the headphone jack???
The car dock works through usb right? If so it probably just has a crappy dac and there's nothing you can do about that. Considering the headphone dac is one of the best, I would expect the dock to sound worse.

Without a soldering iron, nope. The DAC (digital to analog converter) is a IC on the circuit board of the car dock. The one for the phone is on the motherboard of the phone.

External Microphone for Video recording.

I searched through the forums and found some posts that said in order to use your external Mic you need a Y adapter. And that it doesn't support stereo, and some other issues.
Can someone link me to a Y adapter that would work along with a good value microphone that I can use during video recording on my Galaxy S III?
I'm surprised that a company hasn't made a product for this yet where you just plug it in and it works. The camera and video quality are great, but the sound is lacking greatly.
You can also get an OTG cable then you can use the yeti and have digital hd stereo

would it work while recording a video?
If I find a mic with a 3.5mm jack can't I just plug it in? the ear buds that come with the phone have a microphone where the volume controls are and it picks up sound during video recording.

the headphone jack can only output a limited amount of power to drive a mic device, any non mobile mic is not going work. if you want high quality sound you must do so with the usb using either an external usb soundcard with analog 3.5mm inputs or just a usb mic like the yeti which is the best you can really get. and yes s3 has native support for almost any kind of usb device so it will work like if you plug in usbdevices to your desktop/laptop as long as it is Plug and play compatible. whether there are good apps for these usage scenarios though is another story.
oh and you are welcome...

Good info, thanks. Looked up the yeti mic you mentioned, but it's kinda pricey at $109 and not exactly portable either. Do you use it?
(EDIT: too bad most jack mics suck)

I was looking for something like this too to go with my SGS3.
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201 using xda app-developers app
I was looking at these earlier and thought about getting the edutige http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004XC6KHS/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER. A few of the reviews mention it working with a couple of android phones. Only issue is it seems to pick up alot of background noise. If anyone decides to get this for their s3 please tell us how it performs.
Not really sure what you want a dedicated microphone for taking videos on a cell phone. If you are looking to make quality videos, you might as well get a decent external microphone and syncing up audio in post production. I know my brother uses this in conjunction with a 60D. Will probably sound a lot better than the $30 options posted above. http://www.amazon.com/Zoom-H1-Portable-Digital-Recorder/dp/B003QKBVYK/ref=pd_cp_MI_0
I want to record videos with decent sound quality at concerts, etc.. I don't want distorted bass and good audio picture. Recommend me ext. microphone for my SGS3, thanks!

Inline Headset Adapter with Controls for HOX

I've been using the microphone adapter part of an HS U350, but it's started to wear out.
Is there anything better available for the HOX? I've got decent headphones, hence I want an inline adapter, not a whole headset. Something with more controls would be nice
Thanks.

I appreciate the reply. The reason I'd like to use my existing headphones is that I have 3 good pairs and I listen to music. If a call comes in, then I can answer it without any messing around. Looks like I'll just buy another HS U350.
What about a Bluetooth adapter with a 3.5mm plug and a microphone. Is there anything like that? :fingers-crossed:
I think there are multiple of via bluetooth adapters, for example Jabra Street 2, and if I recall right nokia had one too. You just need to search one thats available in your area. (These are available at least in Scandinavia)

I don't have an opinion either way. Their website doesn't make it easy to find products though. What's the Beats adapter called?

Yeah, either Bluetooth or a cable I can plug my headphones into. Does that beats cable have male plugs on both ends?? If so, how does one use it with headphones?

Oh okay, sorry missed the cable part
If that cable is indeed the same that comes with the headphones (and it does look like one) then it's a male to male cord. I don't think it's compatible with other headphones (at least not with common ones) considering the Solo HDs have a 3,5mm jack to plug the cord into.
