[help] Assert failed error Tmobile Galaxy S III - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I keep getting an issue when i got to flash the Hell Fire jellybean rom for my tmobile galaxy s III. the installation begins but then i receive an error message saying
assert failed: getprop("ro.product.device") == "d2tmo" | | getprop("ro.build.prodct") == "d2tmo" E: error in /sdcard/samsung_hfj1.1.zip (status 7) installation aborted.
i have searched the forums for people having the same issue but nothing for the galaxy s III. I do believe this is based on cm10 if that could be causing an issue but im not sure, im new to flashing on samsung devices. any help would be awesome thank you

Have you ever modded your buil.prop for google wallet or anything else?

No I have not, I have flashed other roms with no problem this is the first time ive had an issue

When I got this error, I flashed back to stock then rooted and installed the rom i wanted.

If you're not using a stock rom, the build prop may be from another phone, depending on what rom you're using.

right now im using the frostyjb rom, do you suggest i flash a stock rom then try flashing the hellfire rom like forgot2wipe had mentioned?

That's probably the quickest way to a solution at this point. Or first you could try a different recovery. I'm pretty sure the build.prop in frosty will be fine, so it could be the recovery causing a problem.
Up to you which you try first.

This guide will get your phone back up and running properly.
Doing anything else will just prolong your problems.
This is a easy and sure way to fix your problem - Here is s step by step guide:
After following these instructions you will have the latest official stock-rooted Tmobile T999 Samsung S3 Jellybean v4.1.2 rom
installed then if you like you can flash any of these custom roms found here in this T999 Tmobile threads.
Download the newest pre-rooted Samsung Galaxy S3 T999 Jellybean v4.1.2 rom: T999_UVDMD5
After downloading make a folder on your computer's desktop and unzip the
file using Winzip or 7zip so the .TAR file is in the new folder you just made.
Download and extract Odin into the same folder you made containing the TAR file
Here is the link for Odin: http://d-h.st/Q14
• Download ODIN which is required for flashing the stock rooted firmware (a windows app)
• Download the Odin Flash firmware for T999 Tmobile then copy it to the same folder as Odin
• Run Odin by double clicking the Odin.exe within the same folder as the TAR file you extracted
• Turn off your phone and boot into DOWNLOAD MODE (Volume Down + Home + Power Hold
until phone powers up, then release and press Volume Up to enter Download Mode)
• Once in Download Mode, connect the USB/Charger cable to the phone and plug into the USB port on your computer.
• You should now see a COM** port listed toward the top-left of Odin (under ID:COM)
• Click on the PDA button in the middle-right area of Odin.
• Browse to and select the Firmware you downloaded (TAR file)
• Make sure Auto-Reboot and F. Reset Time are the only options checked and that PDA is the only other thing checked.
• TRIPLE CHECK your settings and that you have selected the correct firmware for your model phone and are using the correct options.
• If you are using a laptop, make absolutely sure you are plugged in, or if on battery, that it is charged enough and will not go into sleep mode during flash.
• Click Start to begin the flash. This will take a while, so be patient!
• Once complete, in the top-left box in Odin, it will say PASS and the phone should have automatically rebooted.
• You may unplug the phone and close Odin if you wish.
• Wait at least 5-10 minutes for the system to boot the first time and then build its cache!
• (It may seem to hang during boot, this is normal and you must be patient!!!)
Good Luck!

Most likely. Just update it through ROM manager, or flash twrp recovery through goo manager

If that doesn't work try Mobile Odin. Get pro from play store or the free version here on xda. Should be easy to find.

Yes, any rom which is intended to be used with the T999 phones only.
I would suggest that you stay away from any of the CM10/AOKP/AOSP and any of the PORTED roms.
Most of those roms are intended for developers and other people who want and like to experiment with their phones.
If you like experimenting with your phone, then by all means go ahead and flash those roms.
So I would suggest to only flash roms which are based on the Tmobile Samsung Touchwiz T999 Jellybean 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 firmware(roms).
That way you will not have any of those famous error 7's and or a lot of the other errors and issues which so many people here in xda have had.
Good luck!

Dont forget to backup your imei once you are rooted. People have lost their imei by flashing ROMs and have to go through a list of steps in order to get it back. Just download this app and make a backup, if you ever lose your imei just open the app and restore your imei.

Which roms have OTA Updater included?

Someone is asking to have their S3 for T-Mo rooted. I would like to load a ROM that has OTA Updater included and also as close to stock as possible. This person is much more of a N0ob than myself. The reason for OTA is to hopefully alleviate the problem of constantly downloading and flashing manually.
Thanks in advance.

Don't root it for them. Just my opinion. Because once you do, every problem they have becomes your problem.

I was thinking the same thing. That's the same exact reason why I haven't rooted my wife's Note 2. I was hoping since if there was a ROM supported by OTA, then I could be slightly idiot proof. Might be wishful thinking on my part.

It isn't cause those sometimes just give false updates which you hear about constantly and then if it does update but it has an issue its your issue and so on and so on. Its a vicious cycle. I walk my brother through it cause he's my bro and I got his back but my friends are dumb lol.

Here is the best way to have the latest and greatest stock pre-rooted samsung rom.
Yes you read right, this is stock and it's the pre-rooted Samsung Touchwiz Jellybean v4.1.2 firmware.

[Q] Noob question :)

To start off my name's Gerry.
I have an sgh-t999v from videotron in Montreal. I would like to root my phone and just want to make sure I'm downloading the right file.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771687
I'm running completely stock 4.1.1 at the moment. Do I have to use the version 4.1.1 or can I use the 4.1.2 for videotron ?
I follow the directions from the same page right?
I ask because I've already tried doing this with instructions from here and it ended disastrously .
http://galaxys3root.com/galaxy-s3-root/how-to-root-t-mobile-galaxy-s3-sgh-t999/
Phone crashed twice then could not get out of download mode.
I ended up finding a stock rom from sprint that I flashed with ODIN.
My counter is now at 9 I believe. I just want to make sure this will work because I don't want to have to go through the bs all over again.
Any insight as to how to make it even easier than it already looks would be greatly appreciated thanks.
4.1.1 or 4.1.2, either is fine. download the root66 file for your phone.
Extract the root66 tar file from the .7z file you downloaded.
Put phone into download mode [ with phone off, hold vol. down + home + power ], connect to computer and open Odin.
once in odin click the PDA field and select the root66 tar you downloaded.
Leave Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time checked.
click start and
when done let phone reboot.
If you have issues flashing with Odin please ensure you are using the microusb cable that came with the phone, users have had issues using other cables.
you can stop here if you just want root.
If you want to flash custom ROMs, download ROM manager from play store to flash the clockworkmods recovery.

Try using a different browser, like chrome or firefox (if you are not already using one of them) It seems your current browser settings are not properly set. So downloading a different browser could just save you some time and allow you to enjoy the almighty rootness of your S3!!

For the T999V and T999L, its best to not use Rom Manager or Goo Manager. There are a number of flashables that will only flash if you are using the d2tmo (T999) recovery. Using one of those apps will install d2can or d2ltetmo.
Easiest way is to download either TWRP or CWM (both are good, its up to you which) and flash in Odin right after you flash root66.
You'll want to download one with the .tar.md5 extension. Flash in Odin the exact same way you flash the firmware.
You don't have to do this, but its better for broader compatibility.

If you flashed your stock kernel the camera wouldve probably worked. If you can't find one, ill make a zip for you a little later. Its usually tge kernel on stuff like that.
An no there are zero roms built only for the T999V. Everyone else has been doing fine with what's available.

Is there a rom that you would work on my phone that you could recommend then
please. it is greatly appreciated.
Just look at the ones that seem to get the most discussion. As far as I was aware, wicked worked fine for just about everyone, so I'd say just try another with similar features you want. If it doesn't work maybe another T999V user can give you a clue as to what you might be missing, if anything. I haven't tried most of them so I'm going by what I hear others say. There are several very good ones to choose from. I'd just start trying them each for a few days to see if any work well for you.

When I flashed a rom different from the stock rom I also had issues with the camera.
Option 1:
- You can try dialing *#34971539# (don't forget the * in front) and then selecting your Phone/CAM FW Ver Check
- Once you do that, a little box on the bottom will tell you your Rear Camera Firmware. You have to make sure that they match. If not, you can install the proper firmware (look around on the forums, I know its there)
- Extract the file to the root of your storage and then after that dial *#34971539# and select the second option. This should write the firmware onto your phone
- Exit out and then redial *#34971539# again and select the Phone/CAM FM Ver Check and see if the firmware are both matching. If they are, reboot the phone and it should work again
Option 2:
- If you are running a different rom and stock kernel, the camera may not work so you should probably flash the ktoonsez kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1871946) I ran into this problem and after installing this kernel and changing my firmware my camera worked again
I hoped that help you out

Sorry, but Ive got to correct a couple of things here. This hasn't worked since at least a couple of updates ago. The firmware write option is locked. Also, you said to extract the file? Do you mean the option to perform the fw dump? This doesn't create a file you can see, use or flash that I've ever found. Not sure what you mean by this. Sorry it just doesn't make sense.
This is the correct way, if it were working.
Chose Cam to Phone FW Ver Check, if the camera firmware is older than the Phone firmware, then you would choose Phone to Cam FW Write. Thats it.
The dump, I believe basically created a fw img dump on one of the underlying partitions. No one ever reported finding it.
Anyway, I believe it was when we updated to LJA that we lost the ability to update the camera firmware. Also, the camera FW is not the device firmware, just so you know.
If you know something different I'm glad to hear it, I'm just not sure what you are trying to tell people to do...

I flashed Dandroid this morning and am loving it so far.
Completely trouble free. The only thing I ask is how do I keep all my apps that i've bought ? Or do I just have to keep downloading them from playstore ?

NOTE: In case the device fails to boot into Recovery Mode automatically (as given in Step 10) or cannot root your device, repeat the entire procedure again.

... Not sure, I should have an answer for you within the next hour or two due to my bootloader already being voided with the 4.3 one.

I made it CWM version ,with removed Knox and Bloatware , works perfect.
For now only problem is that I cannot activate init.d support on stock kernel.

Hey people, is it possible to make a cwm flashable ZIP of this without changing anything?
I would like to try to dual boot it as second rom with my 4.4.2 GE rom
Can somebody send me or give a link to download the cwm flashable zip so i don't have to try to make it myself?

(TUTORIAL) How to update to Kit Kat NB4 modem on 4.3 Bootloader

Hello XDA, for those of us that are using the 4.3 bootloader and running an aosp rom, that would like to update to t-mobile's new N900TUVUCNB4 modem WITHOUT updating to new bootloader...follow these instructions. This is what worked for me after a bit of trial and error. My setup prior to this update was- 4.3 bootloader, MI7 firmware, philz recovery, Will's Slim Kat V7, and slimkat gapps 4.4.2.
STEP 1- DO A NANDROID BACK-UP.
STEP 2- DOWNLOAD VISION X3 ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2559321)
STEP 3- DOWNLOAD CivZ-SnapKat-Rev1.9-sm_n900T-4.4.2 KERNEL (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2613305)
STEP 4- DOWNLOAD TRIANGLE AWAY APK (GOOGLE IT)
STEP 5- COPY ALL 3 ITEMS IN STEPS 2,3,4 TO YOUR EXTERNAL SD CARD. BOOT INTO YOUR CUSTOM RECOVERY. DO A FACTORY DATA WIPE, WIPE CACHE & DALVIK CACHE. FLASH VISION ROM, FLASH CIVZ KERNEL, AND REBOOT. BE PATIENT....BOOT TIME TAKES ABOUT 5MINS. AFTER ROM IS BOOTED...INSTALL TRIANGLE AWAY APK USING A FILE EXPLORER AND RUN THE APP. PHONE WILL SHUT DOWN .
STEP 6- NOW FROM YOUR PC, DOWNLOAD ODIN 307 (http://samsung-updates.com/Odin307.zip). UNZIP DOWNLOAD ON YOUR PC AND OPEN ODIN PROGRAM AND CONNECT YOUR PHONE TO PC IN DOWNLOAD MODE.
STEP 7- DOWNLOAD MODEM.BIN THAT I HAVE EXTRACTED FROM OTA. (https://www.dropbox.com/sh/fx72lner8mud9kq/nXqmHJsfrz/modem.bin) NOW FLASH USING ODIN MAKING SURE MODEM.BIN IS SELECTED UNDER PHONE FILE BUTTON AND CHECKBOX IS CHECKED. MAKE SURE NOT TO UNPLUG DEVICE AND WAIT TILL ODIN HAS COMPLETED SUCCESSFULLY.
STEP 8- AFTER PHONE HAS REBOOTED. PULL BATTERY AND BOOT INTO BOOTLOADER MODE AGAIN. CONNECT TO PC AND OPEN ODIN AGAIN. MAKE SURE TO HIT RESET BUTTON IN ODIN SO NOTHING IS SELECTED.
STEP 9- DOWNLOAD YOUR CUSTOM RECOVERY OF YOUR CHOOSING...JUST MAKE SURE ITS A .TAR FILE FLASHABLE IN ODIN. FLASH RECOVERY IN ODIN UNDER PDA FILE BUTTON AND CHECKBOX CHECKED.
STEP 10- AND FINALLY, PERFORM A CLEAN WIPE & INSTALL OF THE CUSTOM ROM YOU WERE USING PRIOR TO THIS TUTORIAL.
ENJOY!!
What's the benefits of the new modem?

Can you tell me why we can't just skip all of the installing of new ROM's and Triangle Away, and go straight to this step:
STEP 7- DOWNLOAD MODEM.BIN THAT I HAVE EXTRACTED FROM OTA. (https://www.dropbox.com/sh/fx72lner8...sfrz/modem.bin) NOW FLASH USING ODIN MAKING SURE MODEM.BIN IS SELECTED UNDER PHONE FILE BUTTON AND CHECKBOX IS CHECKED. MAKE SURE NOT TO UNPLUG DEVICE AND WAIT TILL ODIN HAS COMPLETED SUCCESSFULLY.
If that is all it takes to install the new modem, then why not just do that step?
Confused....
Is there anyway you could extract the 4.3 boot loader for me? I would like to try to get back on the 4.3 boot loader with this method or give it a try at least. TIA

That is correct. All you need to do is flash the modem.bin in ODIN, nothing else and you will have the NB4 radio. And no, you cannot flash the modem via the recovery kernel (it appears to be locked), you have to be in download mode and I have not tried heimdall, so cannot tell you if that works.
dont bother updating the modem. it doesnt help. i am currently getting my third replacement device due to the lte signal issue. my sisters optimus f6 has a -86dbm lte signal while our notes are always over -100dbm. they said the kitkat update would fix the issue how ever it hasnt. the signal bars will show you as having a full signal but if you take note of the actuall signal strength before and after you will see it infact does not change. you can install the modem itself with out the other steps atleast i did on my secondary device but like i said its pointless. there is a power control feature built into these phones that are robbing us of our beloved lte. ril.modem.lte.powercontrol i tried to set it to false and off but nothing really seams to affect it. i personally believe samsung messed up with the antenna on this device. dont believe do it for yourself and please let me know. maybe i have just gotten two shotty devices in a row. but we shall see.......
Noted, I will do a before and after test when I get home.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
so i took the back cover off the phone to expose the internals. so no antenna on the device at all....guess what -106dbm with the antenna i get -104dbm samsung might want to rethink this antenna design cus we pretty much just dont have an antenna.........
Can we revert back to the old modem? I don't know if it's this modem or if it's a rom issue but I can't record video on TW roms. Yup. Just tried Tweaked and XNote. They both can't record video. Recording failed. I hope I can go back to the old modem.
okay 90% battery level is before and other is after the modem update.

that is amazing though that is with att. i have wondered about att's service with these phones. i know with my sisters optimus i can roam on atts network but cant do any sorta roaming with my note. i really hope that its just my phone will know more tomorrow as they are shipping me my third device. im really considering telling tmo to f off and just sim unlocking this device and using a att mvno.......
Can this modem be used on the vzw note 3? i have the dev edition, and was thinking about trying this modem out but i don't want to if there's no point. I figure it won't work, however i'm not certain. Thanks in advance!
Anyone have the MI7 modem handy to grab. Also has anyone tried odin back/forth on MI7/NB4?
