CM 10 Echo (cm-10-20121020) - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Ok before you say "BLA BLA BLA search" I did.. both with google and the built in thing.
All the results either didn't work for me that I found or was just someone saying "BA BLA BLA search"
I tried asking in the dev section but I didn't get any responses and I don't know if there is a IRC.... but anyways
I am having an echo when my phone is on echo on both of my galaxy S IIIs.
ie: If my brother is calling me on his phone (Not a galaxy s III) he hears himself when my phone is on speaker.
And if I call my dad who has a galaxy S III running CM10 as well I hear myself.
It is really really annoying

So no one is willing to help?

This issue is really annoying

I have a bit of an echo as well but like you, have seen no response to a fix yet.

There is no fix. The devs have to figure out how to fix it.

Thank you two for responding. I rather know "it is not fixed and we are having the issue as well" then being the only one with the issue .
The devs do know about the issue right? It is almost as bad as the flickering.

On T-Mobile cm10 as well. One thing I've done to fix it is just lowering the volume. Something with mic and noise cancellation isnt working properly.

I had this echo every time I updated to a custom ROM. I finally unrooted, and was finally able to update my phone to the latest firmware and OTA update. Once I did that I rooted again and flashed CM10...no more echo. I'm convinced it was updating phone - are you up to date with your OTA?

I am on the i747UCLG1 baseband. Is that not the latest? It shouldn't affect that anyways.

I am not on the latest OTA. I'll look into trying that some time this week.

It's problem with the Software. Try flashing latest Darkside Venom ROM. My dad said he hears no echo anymore.

Its a brand new phone and not rooted yet, I had the IncS rooted and all kinds of themes on that one so can't be a software issue cuz I'm on 4.0.3 just upgraded through Samsung Kies

Remember they are different phone. They code the libs and kernels different. So those are the issue that T-Mobile didn't fix while creating ICS for this phone. And I PM'd you the rooting instructions.

Just got the UPDATE!

Just got the Samsung Update available on my phone. It might be for multiwindow function. Don't think I can install it due to being on a custom ROM, so I don't know what it will include.
No update here, running stock rom...anybody else get it?

Turn off automatic time and manually advance the time forward or change the date. It will check again then.
But I don't have an update.

Yeah. Not to worried about it now. If it happens it happens.

SOB, thought it would happen. Checked and natha
OP, where you from? And what carrier?
Rogers in Canadiana with nothing yet. I did hear rumours of an update for the S3 and quite possibly the Note 2's starting tomorrow though. But I've given up on rumours.
AT&T here in the US and completely stock Note 2 and no update via Kies or AT&T that I can see.
U got that because u on a custom Rom. Every one I tried I have that notification.
Nada. Simmer down.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda premium
If you have a custom ROM, you won't receive ota updates. You said you "received" an update? Did you install it?
Sent from my SGH-I317M using Xparent ICS Tapatalk 2
Idk if you know but if you go to time settings and change it to next day it lets u recheck for update
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
No update on the Rogers note 2.
I'm rooted and I checked for the OTA update and their was no update, said I had the latest version. I want to go back to stock rom now because every time I read about installing a custom rom it breaks something else on your phone and you have to wait for a fix for that.
Rooting your phone with custom roms takes too much time and energy. I don't have time to research different roms and play with my phone everyday. Ill just wait for ATT to come out with their updates, So if someone can link me to have to get back to ATT's I317 stock rom that will be great, thanks.
This OP's started a raucous, and does anybody notice that they've miraculously gone AWOL since the 1st post...??? Oh, and 0 (zero) individuals have successfully retrieved this "phantom" update?! Seems like a weak (yet successful) attempt at stirring the pot,
if you ask me...
Just my $.02...
I didn't install it because I was on a custom ROM.
AT&T and using jedi 3.1
If you're on a custom ROM, especially if it's a port, then you shouldn't even bother starting a thread like this.
I am on a custom Rom and also got the update notification, but it is just to 'OK' the software updating service.

I think you are supposed to flash the CM10 Stable version. Then dirty flash 12/20 to fix the echo. I personally dont know if this works yet. I am about to try it out. I will report back with my findings. i got my fingers crossed....
Just tried this. Echo is still there.

I doubt its going to make a difference if its the "stable" 4.1.2 vs a 4.1.2 nightly. I wish it worked but its still terribly there.

I'm really curious to find out why also. What ROM did you come from before flashing a build that had no call echo? Have all the night lies not bad call echo for you? What recovery are you using? What modem ? What kernel? I guess I think more methodically than randomly flashing and guessing.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
I tried to do that methodically in the Illusion thread with nothing.
I'm coming from aokp build date 12-9 and wiping data, system, caches and flashing with latest CWM using the latest modem.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
I came from darthstalker and used the latest twrp, updated it right before I flashed. Stayed on stock kernel and modem.
Edit: LI8 modem

Im wondering this...
Has anyone odin'd back to an ics build (like LJ4), did the ota update to 4.1.1 LJA and then tried flashing a 4.2.1 ROM? I did the first 2 steps but the ota caused me to lose root so now I have to reroot when I get back to my laptop and have time. Im wondering if that will help

Thought of trying it, but the reports of people having the issue and the ones that don't are so widespread with different attempts and success I just decided to wait and be patient. I doubt people aren't getting echo almost, like its there but the other person just suspects its there phone or something. Or like you, are testing on a landline. Either way people have reported to attempt switching radios/modems and it not being successful...

Yeah ive tried different roms, kernels, recoveries, modems, clean installs and dirty. Only thing I haven't done is trying to flash from an ota update of jb. I really really want aokp. That rom is so sick but I (we) are a couple of people that actually talk to people via voice calls and can't have the echo issue.

Agreed, it feels 10X smoother the 4.1 its crazy. But not worth not being able to use my phone for calls. People hearing them selves talk causes them to be annoyed which causes me to be annoyed lol. It always seems to be right after I flash a new build my phone blows up immediately lol. Soon I'm sure we will have something from the CM team. Its a time of the year to be with family and friends not devving for people they don't know. Patience, for once, I'm okay with lol.

Yeah that was the update from like a month ago. The radio was changed with some security fixes. UVLI4 is the latest one, and i got that like a month ago.
Thank you all very much, seems I haven't received anything at all cause mine is the second one. Im such a noob, don't matter how much I've roamed around here. Lol!!!
I have a q, again, will that update mess up with like cwm or root when/if I receive it? Will I have to root again?
Also the first one went from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4 with that update, but mine had 4.0.4 out of the box. They were bought with a difference of there months at most. First one I got starting last December, the second one at the end of this February but still outdated according to those numbers. But when I check for updates it states there are none. Whatever, thanks again.
I didn't notice that I had posted on the general thread instead of q&a thread, please move if needed. Sorry about that too.

You will not be able to update like that with cwm installed. Has to be on the stock recovery. Doesn't really answer your questions, just more of an FYI.

Yup it's the custom recovery that will prevent an update. When you load a custom recovery you are basically saying "I am the administrator of my phone, not T-Mobile". So it is up to you to apply updates. Also if you dont want to see the update notification anymore you can freeze the Device Management process with Titanium Backup or Rom Toolbox.
Well, not long after there was an update, Lol, though not directly from tmous, at least for me.
What a bump. Hahaha

Question about jb kernel

So I haven't been in these threads for a while and was hoping someone would be so kind as to clarify. Now that we have an official JB kernel is the dreaded call echo a thing of the past since we no longer need skyrocket kernels? Or is it still hit or miss among different devices? I suffered from this issue with every kernel/rom combination. This is the only thing preventing me from going back to custom jb roms. Thanks in advance!
