Receiving Texts Over 160 characters (on Wind Mobile) - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hey all, I did a search and found dead ends to this query, so thought I'd ask myself.
Is anybody with a Galaxy Nexus on WIND Mobile, unable to receive text messages longer than 160 characters in one message?
With Rogers I never had an issue sending or receiving texts longer than 160 characters in one entire message, but now with WIND I receive text messages longer than 160 characters in multiple texts, sometimes with a delay inbetween and once even completely non-sequentially.
Is this a network issue or do I have to set something on my Galaxy Nexus? This is my first time ever trying another network so I'm unsure, but I find this way too bizarre to be an issue in 2012. This is enough to make me leave, no matter how cheap their plans are... it's annoying lol. Also, before putting the WIND SIM card in, I did a ROM upgrade to 4.1.2 and some minor mods so I don't know if I undid an SMS setting or something.
Thanks in advance.

SMS delay/not retrieving :(

Hey guys,
Picked up a desire yesterday and its great, though I'm having some issues with sms. I notice I don't receive any texts until I send a text first, then I'll receive 2 or 3 texts, timestamped in the past, up to an hour ago!
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks.
edit: unrooted on o2
i get a similar problem, i know i should have received a text message but it doeant show up for hours.
unrooted on tmobile uk
Most likely when your phone is connected over GPRS the text don't come through till you disconnect, used to happen on my N95.
So if my phone is operating in GPRS mode, until it decides it doesn't need the internet anymore and disconnects, it won't retrieve texts... right. So any workarounds or fixes for this?
Prety much, after I use GPRS I just made a call and during or after the call my text came in.
Been getting this all day, are people really just dealing with this or is it only a few people that have this issue?
I am having another problem... on T-mobile, my phone won't download MMS messages. It will just say Download error, General Network Failure... After it expired (3days) , I was sent a link to the T-mobile website, where I am able to see it for 14 days.
Another problem that I am having, the phone is struggling sending long text messages... 4 or 5 normal lenght messages 500-600 characters... I am using the Text App provided with the phone.
I have a problem that I dont think is an actual problem I think its just how the phone works, and tbh its a bit rubbish.
If you dont have signal when you hit send (im my office at work I only get signal on a little square of the desk) the phone says "message not sent". Sometime when it gets signal it will send the message, but if it doesnt get signal quick enough it seems to just give up sending.... a bit lame really....
I'm going to post a message up with the T-mobile UK MMS settings so people in future can find it on search. Have a look in 5 mins.
JAmes.
I've got the same issue with my HTC Desire.
My operator is a Belgium one, namely Mobistar.
I've got the impression that when i open the sms box, i start seeing the messages. Don't know if it's the communication that goes wrong, or the 'throughput' in the phone (screen, alerting...).
After installing (and using of course) chompSMS, this problem is gone... yipppie...

M-m-m-m-m-monster kill text messages. Please help.

My phone is driving me insane. I will receive up to ten copies of the same text message from random people I'm having SMS conversations with. Over. and over. and over. It is carrier and phone independent on their end; it never happened to me before I got the Galaxy Nexus.
The only way to solve the issue (and stop the texts, as they also seem to be coming in as additional text messages that have somehow been "converted" to the content of the "bug" message) is to restart the phone.
^^^ To clarify, I just got one text message five times. When I restarted my phone, five -different- text messages from the same person came in one burst.
What gives? Happened to me out of the box and with the 4.1.1 OTA I've installed.
AT&T. 4.1.1 yakju.
Further clarification:
NO additional SMS apps EVER installed.
Google Voice is NOT sharing an inbox with Mms.apk.
One friend has a new One X on at&t - I thought the issue was with his phone
Until it happened with a friend who has a 3GS on T-Mobile ; I've never received duplicate texts from them before, the issue is on my end
The m-m-monster kill does not seem to arrest any of my outgoing texts
It *does* however intercept all incoming text messages, and turn them into the m-m-monster kill text.
Due to this issue, I think I can never use the "Vega" notification again.
Quick Google results show VZW users experiencing the same issue with stock LTE Nexii. This is ridiculous.
Bump?
Same issue for me. I'm on 4.1.1 too and have experienced this randomly with multiple ROMs and kernels. Any fix?
Toro on cm10. Has never happened to me before.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium

[Q] MMS length restriction

I received my Xperia Z1 compact a few days ago. No issues. Rooted no probs thanks to the peeps on zda.
Have come across one annoyance though. When I type out a text if the system judges it to be to long the system decides it is going to break the message up into multiple texts. I had this with my old Galaxy S2 but fortunately some bright spark managed to make a fix for that.
Does anyone know if there is a fix for this yet?
As far as I know the S2 converted the SMS to a MMS if it reached a certain length. I don't see this happening on the Z1 Compact (am I wrong?). The split up into multiple SMS is normal (limit is 160 ansi characters). So what are you exactly asking for?

My bad. I got my mms & sms confused. Basically the text system is breaking up long sms into multiple sms's. I appreciate this has become the norm it seems for sms but it to me is an annoyance. It is something that has been overcome with other handsets. Just wondering if anyone knows a way round it with the compact. Again sorry about the confusion.
Every phone will break up SMS with more than 160 ansi characters into multiple messages. It's the GSM standard.
I know it is the operator standard but as mentioned there have been ways around this in the past. I didn't know if there was with the compact yet. I'm guessing not by your responses.
Thanks anyway peeps

When I send SMS with more than 160 characters (or whatever the limitation by GSM was) it is still showing as 1 piece of sms. Same for received messages.
I read somewhere that Iphone and Android don't work too well on this, but I have no definitive answer or solution here for you.
Maybe it is operator dependent. No Idea. Both my Z ultra and compact do not suffer broken up messages. I am in Vietnam at the moment.. Hardly cutting edge IT leader, so I would have expected the same in developed nations....
I have used Handcent sms app before, and I remember in the options and settings, there was a checkbox you could tick to keep long sms in tact...
Try using SMS Zipper or PackSMS

[Q] Late text messages

I have a weird problem with my phone. Sometimes my text messages will be received only if I send out a text of my own or make a call.
Emphasis on the sometimes because its so random I haven't seen a pattern. When I first got the phone I had it with Wind mobile. The terrible reception made me switch to Bell about 2 months ago. This issue has significantly dropped since then but just in the past hour it's happened twice.
A friend sent me a text at 8:25 PM. I called him at 8:33 and then his 3 texts came through. We were having the convo up until 8:39 when it seemed as though he stopped replying. At 9:37 I sent one out to a different person and his text messages finally came through (Time stamp sent was 8:40 time stamp received was 9:37). Its not even an issue of reception because the texts and calls that trigger the "missing" texts send flawlessly.
Maybe it's the text messaging app I use? I use Textra but haven't tried with the stock in a while.
It's such an annoying problem. Any help would be appreciated.

[Q] Sprint LG G4 Spliting SMS

Before I switched to sprint I had used T-Mobile LG G3. The default messaging app split long text messages into two or three, and I received long messages in similar chunks. But I used the Textra messaging app and it ceased to do that. Long messages sent as one as well as receiving 500+ character text.
Now, being with sprint the problems have re-appeared and I an unable to fix it. Textra does not change the sms limits so I send multiple text to friends and likewise with receiving. This is not a huge issue just a major inconvenience and a nuisance.
Are there setting I'm messing, apps that will help, anything i can do to keep long message as one? Please and thank you for your help.
I think it's a Sprint issue. I've been with them for a long time and always remember this happening. However, if there is a fix, I'd love to know it also.

Sprint has the 160 character limit for SMS texting. If you want to text longer messages as a single message, you either need to use an instant messaging app like Google Hangouts (though those require the recipient to also have the messaging app), or find a texting app that can convert long messages to MMS if it goes past the 160 character limit. These solutions will convert the SMS to MMS or other forms of data, though, so just be aware of that if you have some sort of data limit.
If the converting SMS to data is not a viable solution, a quick google search revealed this app: BigSMS, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=skezza.main&hl=en.
It supposedly can make long texts, but I have never used it myself, so I can't comment on if it works or not.

As I said before, I used Textra in the past and my messages were sent as one and I received long messages as one. I recently downloaded EvolveSms which fixed the issue of my messages being split by converting them into MMS (which i have no problem with at all) but I still got 4 separate chunks of their message. I know there's an option to reassemble split messages but it seems to not be working. I'll go to a sprint store to see if there's an issue there or not.

Ok, Good luck with with the Sprint customer rep. The split SMS thing never bothered me since I've been on Sprint for a very long time. However, I did a quick google search, and it does seem like some devices have native support for recombining received SMS messages, like the Sprint Galaxy S 5, so it does look like it can work. Hopefully they can do it on the G4 as well.
