M-m-m-m-m-monster kill text messages. Please help. - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

My phone is driving me insane. I will receive up to ten copies of the same text message from random people I'm having SMS conversations with. Over. and over. and over. It is carrier and phone independent on their end; it never happened to me before I got the Galaxy Nexus.
The only way to solve the issue (and stop the texts, as they also seem to be coming in as additional text messages that have somehow been "converted" to the content of the "bug" message) is to restart the phone.
^^^ To clarify, I just got one text message five times. When I restarted my phone, five -different- text messages from the same person came in one burst.
What gives? Happened to me out of the box and with the 4.1.1 OTA I've installed.
AT&T. 4.1.1 yakju.
Further clarification:
NO additional SMS apps EVER installed.
Google Voice is NOT sharing an inbox with Mms.apk.
One friend has a new One X on at&t - I thought the issue was with his phone
Until it happened with a friend who has a 3GS on T-Mobile ; I've never received duplicate texts from them before, the issue is on my end
The m-m-monster kill does not seem to arrest any of my outgoing texts
It *does* however intercept all incoming text messages, and turn them into the m-m-monster kill text.
Due to this issue, I think I can never use the "Vega" notification again.
Quick Google results show VZW users experiencing the same issue with stock LTE Nexii. This is ridiculous.

Bump?

Same issue for me. I'm on 4.1.1 too and have experienced this randomly with multiple ROMs and kernels. Any fix?

Toro on cm10. Has never happened to me before.

Why do text messages sometimes not show up?

Like for example, I texted my girlfriend hi this morning, and I never got a text from her back until I sent another text, like it just refreshed in checking the sms servers, because she even told me she texted me back hours ago.
Why does this happen?
I have this problem all the time, and I had it on my EnV2. I'm guessing it's a Verizon network thing.
This is most likely a network issue, not a device issue. This or similar has happened to me plenty on various devices and multiple carriers.

Disappearing text messages

I've noticed an issue on my Galaxy Nexus (Stock Rooted 4.0.4, VZW) where randomly a text message will disappear.
I don't have any idea what is causing it and its so sporadic, it happens maybe once every 1,000 texts.
The only way I know I'm even missing a text is if I see it appear in the notification bar but not be there when I go into the messaging app (Using stock messaging) or, because I have mightytext installed, I'll see the message forwarded to my browser but I'll notice its gone from my phone.
I was able to pull a logcat after it happened most recently, so if someone thinks they would be able to decipher some information from it, let me know.
I'm posting because I'm wondering if I'm the only one seeing this issue or if others are in the same boat.
Thanks in advance and let me know if anyone would like some more info...I've been trying to nail this thing down for months now.
You're welcome to put it up on pastebin or something and post it, but I would first eliminate MightyText as the first possible problem. Uninstall it and see if it still happens.
I had the same problem when still on 4.0.2 stock, unrooted. Only ever used the stock messaging app. It happened very sporadic, with the same symptoms you described.
Messages popped up in notification bar but could be nowhere to be found in messages app.
Since upgrading to 4.0.4 it never happened again, or at least I didn't notice.
As you are on 4.0.4 already, that's probably not comforting.

Yeah, it happens so infrequently that I'm not surprised you haven't noticed it since updating, but nice to know someone else has the same issue.
Do you have mighytext installed or can we rule that out as a culprit?
Do you have any SMS Backup applications installed?
If not, I recommend the "SMS Backup +" by Jan Berkel.
Works amazing on my ICS.
Does backups of SMS, MMS and Call Logs (if you want.)
Yes, I do have that installed, but thats not really relevant to the issue I described here.
Thanks.

Sorry - I realized I never finished my train of thought. Got "distracted" as someone walked into my office.
To continue, when your texts disappear from your phone, do they also disappear from your Gmail SMS label?
As per every 1000 texts - I assume you get a TON of texts per day?
I ask - because my cousin who is a promoter also gets/sends 1000's of text messages a week, and he made a funny comment yesterday about how some of his incoming texts "vanished."
He doesn't have SMS Backup+, so I couldn't verify it for him at the time. I'm wondering if you and him have the same problems?
Regards,
var
I also have SMS Backup + installed, but not Mighty text. When a disappearing text arrived, it never even had a time to kick in, even though I'm on wifi and it's said to backup upon arrival. The text is just gone, right after the notification vanishes.
But hard to investigate as it happens really very sporadic... And yup, I get hundreds of messages each day in a developing country, where sometimes also sms are not delivered, so everybody knows and it's not that big of a problem.

Constant Google Voice voicemail notifications

I've been using Google Voice for over a year now, and YouMail before that on my Palm Pre 2, so I haven't used Verizon's voicemail in a long time.
My issue is, every time that I get a text, I also get new voicemail notifications for voicemail that I have already listened to. Sometimes I will get "10 unread voicemail" notifications, most of the time it's one or two unread VM's, it is very annoying.
I've reinstalled the app, cleared data, and I've marked all VM's in Google Voice unread and then read - nothing works
Any other ideas?
I think there is a setting you can change so it does/doesnt notify you via sms/email when you get a vm.
You need to change this on a computer, not the app.

Yes that option does exist, but I am not getting text/email alerts of voicemail. I'm constantly getting voicemail notifications, which I want, just not the same ones over and over
Am I the only one with issues?

I have the same issue on my Nexus 4, 4.2.2. It is very annoying and the fact that this obvious bug has not been dealt with does make me wonder if Google Voice is going the way of Google Reader.... No devs. Maybe Babble will solve it... The only alternative I have found is turning off the integration and sending a text for the voicemail to the phone. Pretty kludgy.
Ugh, hoping for complete Babble overhaul as well. The entire app is a mess really

Oh okay, your first post threw me off because it says you got a text every time.

I agree with this. My problems were different than yours. I didn't get notifications on a regular basis. Then I'd get 10 notifications for messages I never received. Sometimes a phone reboot would send messages to me, but not always. My gmail account had the notifications but they weren't pushed to the app.
I got tired of it, and went back to sprint VM. I wish sprint visual voicemail was an option on this phone. - Note, I am NOT rooted, and use this for business and cannot root (company policy).
I just found this thread when I went searching for solutions to this same issue. Did anyone figure out a solution or a workaround?
I'm also experiencing the same issue.
Me too. Two different phones now. 2013 moto X and droid turbo 64 gig. A lot of times for me it does not seem to be triggered by the reception of a text message. It will just happen. It also seems like it's just related to a few messages in my voicemail. This morning, I got a notification from a voicemail from August 5th that I listen to that day and have been notified maybe 3 or 4 times since that it existed. I'm about ready for the kludgy workaround mentioned earlier to turn off notifications on my phone and turn on text message notifications for it. Also hoping that this post will spark some new interest in fixing this problem or even better remind someone to post a solution that they found.
google voice app settings
I have had the same issue on my Samsung Galaxy S3 ever since I started using a Google Voice number. I get my google voice voicemails in Hangouts, so there should be no reason for me to receive a voicemail notification for them. I was just looking through the Sync And Notications section of the Settings inside the Google Voice app, and I found that I can uncheck the voicemail notications. Hopefully this will not affect my receiving notifications for my regular phone number (the one attached to the phone), or receiving hangouts messages with the Google Voice number voicemails.

[Q] Text Message is slow

Good morning everyone and Happy New Year!
Does anyone have issue with Text Message being slow? I'm using the stock Message App come with AT&T. It always take about at least 3 or 4 second to complete the sending (i.e. the spinning circle on every text). No matter how short or long the text is. Especially, group text is very slow. I think it's not the Network issue because I had Note 3 before and never have the issue.
Might do you some good to reprogram your phone. I do not know the number you dial for reprogramming though... Call AT&T or visit a local store.
I don't have issues with slow text messages myself. I have issues with my phone just randomly not getting them until I reboot. Any text messages sent between the time it stopped getting them and I reboot are lost. Not sure what causes it to happen. Happened a few times within a month then went months without happening and then just recently happened again...

Samsung message app issue?

I hate the Verizon message app, so I always used the samsung one, well I tried factory reset, cache, etc. The damn thing won't let me send group messages or send pics, any one else have this issue? It's driving me nuts, I use the group's reply for work and stuff. But it works in Verizon message app...
I can't answer your question as I did not like Samsung or Verizon's solution. I have used Textra for a long time and never have any problems.
I had this very same issue with my Verizon Note 8 and never figured out what caused it. If I would switch my sim from my Note 8 to my iPhone and back MMS would work briefly and then fail after a while. Verizon nor Samsung could help me, so I downloaded Textra and never looked back. Funny thing is when I first was dealing with this I couldn't find a single thread with any other owner reporting the issue now 4 months later I saw your post lol.
I just noticed that I'm having this exact issue as well. Re-flashed the entire stock Verizon firmware and still can't send MMS. I can receive but not send.
Is almost like it was sabotaged, so you had to use Verizon message app, I'll try textra, thanks for the help
Use Signal, I beg of you:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.thoughtcrime.securesms :highfive:
I second signal. Absolutely no issues so far. Very reliable
Same issue that stock app just stopped sending mms. But have to use due to watch compatibility.. Help?
Is anyone else having a problem with the badge showing up when you got a message? Im not getting any number on the icon to indicate there are unread messages....
I've been having a problem with mms since updating to oreo. Never had a problem before that. But I'm also having issues with data during calls.
