Like for example, I texted my girlfriend hi this morning, and I never got a text from her back until I sent another text, like it just refreshed in checking the sms servers, because she even told me she texted me back hours ago.
Why does this happen?
I have this problem all the time, and I had it on my EnV2. I'm guessing it's a Verizon network thing.
This is most likely a network issue, not a device issue. This or similar has happened to me plenty on various devices and multiple carriers.

Frequently I am unable to send SMS messages and it repeats the alert in the notification bar, but a lot of the time the recipients still receive it, multiple times. Has anyone else had this problem?
I've had the same thing happening 3-4 times of a few hundred sent messages since I got my Desire three weeks ago. Haven't got any explanation though, but it's happened to me while roaming and/or in areas with poor coverage. I've also experienced that a couple messages sent to me, never got here. Can make a man paranoid
I've got a stock, unbranded Desire in Norway for the record.

My phone is driving me insane. I will receive up to ten copies of the same text message from random people I'm having SMS conversations with. Over. and over. and over. It is carrier and phone independent on their end; it never happened to me before I got the Galaxy Nexus.
The only way to solve the issue (and stop the texts, as they also seem to be coming in as additional text messages that have somehow been "converted" to the content of the "bug" message) is to restart the phone.
^^^ To clarify, I just got one text message five times. When I restarted my phone, five -different- text messages from the same person came in one burst.
What gives? Happened to me out of the box and with the 4.1.1 OTA I've installed.
AT&T. 4.1.1 yakju.
Further clarification:
NO additional SMS apps EVER installed.
Google Voice is NOT sharing an inbox with Mms.apk.
One friend has a new One X on at&t - I thought the issue was with his phone
Until it happened with a friend who has a 3GS on T-Mobile ; I've never received duplicate texts from them before, the issue is on my end
The m-m-monster kill does not seem to arrest any of my outgoing texts
It *does* however intercept all incoming text messages, and turn them into the m-m-monster kill text.
Due to this issue, I think I can never use the "Vega" notification again.
Quick Google results show VZW users experiencing the same issue with stock LTE Nexii. This is ridiculous.
Bump?
Same issue for me. I'm on 4.1.1 too and have experienced this randomly with multiple ROMs and kernels. Any fix?
Toro on cm10. Has never happened to me before.

This just started happening yesterday, I keep receiving the same text message from a contact multiple times throughout the day (upwards of 10-15 per hour), I thought it was just the one contact maybe having an issue on their end, but it started happening with other people as well, from different carriers (verizon & sprint). Is this happening for anyone else? I checked around to see if maybe Verizon was having issues but i didn't find much info on it. I've never had this happen before, I'm using Joelz's GPE rom, but I've been using this rom for a couple of months now so i doubt it's software related, especially since they're incoming messages.
Okay so I disabled iMessage on my iPhone before my M8 was even active, its been over a week now and I have turned off iMessage on literally all of my apple products and for some reason I still can't receive some texts from certain iPhone users. One day it'll work fine and then the next day I don't receive them. This is also happening with some group messages too. My brother who is an iPhone user could group text with my friends and I fine the other day, and all of a sudden today I can't receive any of his messages anymore. I've already spoke with Apple and had them manually deregister my phone # from iMessage and apparently that doesn't seem to be working fully either. Does anyone else have this same problem or something similar and if so how did you go about fixing it? Incredibly annoying. Never had this issue on my AT&T branded M7 with or without the AT&T stock ROM.
This is completely unrelated to your phone. This is all apples issue with imessage. The phone number doesn't deregister properly from Apple. Therefore some people iPhones still think you have one yourself. Don't blame your m8 blame crapple!

I had the same problem with imessage after switching to Android. The issue was resolved through Apple after many days of problems. It is a known issue with Apple servers.

Same problem here. I called Apple and they said my number is not registered anymore and yet I still don't receive any texts from anyone with an iPhone. For sure on Apple's end.

My buddy had the exact same problem today.
He said he turned off iMessage in his phone before he deactivated his iPhone.
He also sent a text to 48369 with the word STOP (An alleged fix from Apple) and that didn't work either.
He called the 1-800 MY APPLE number and had them remove his phone number from the iMessage system and it started to work 30 minutes later.
Good morning everyone and Happy New Year!
Does anyone have issue with Text Message being slow? I'm using the stock Message App come with AT&T. It always take about at least 3 or 4 second to complete the sending (i.e. the spinning circle on every text). No matter how short or long the text is. Especially, group text is very slow. I think it's not the Network issue because I had Note 3 before and never have the issue.
Might do you some good to reprogram your phone. I do not know the number you dial for reprogramming though... Call AT&T or visit a local store.
I don't have issues with slow text messages myself. I have issues with my phone just randomly not getting them until I reboot. Any text messages sent between the time it stopped getting them and I reboot are lost. Not sure what causes it to happen. Happened a few times within a month then went months without happening and then just recently happened again...
