this is an option in Paranoid Android and AOKP.
i think there was a root app too which made this happen sorry for being unhelpful, but i dont know the name of the app

Still unable to do it with AOKP build - Ressurrection

a workaround if you are rooted is to use button savior or virtual button bar

[Q] Customizing Buttons (Menu, Home, Back, Search, and Lock)

Hey, I was just wondering if anyone knew how to change what the buttons do. For instance, I want to be able to customize what happens if I double press the home key, or hold the back key, or double press the lock key. I was thinking that there would be an app for this but I couldn't find one. The app i was looking for should be similar to the "activator" Cydia app for iOS (iCrap). Does this exist? Or is there another way I can change what they do?
Thanks in advance.

There should be something like that in cm7 (had custom button actions on my mytouch slide before on cm7). But cm7 isn't so good for this phone yet

[Q] After flashing new ROM Home button can no longer go home

Howdy!
First post and it appears I'm "one of those" that's begging for help.
I flashed a new ROM today - CleanGB - and it works great, with one exception. The home button doesn't work.
I installed the "Button ReMapper" app and still can't get the home button to take me home. But I can make the home button do other functions, such as menu.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Reflash it.. or flash an alternative kernel I've had this issue before and usually reflashing will fix it.

Check your launcher settings. sometimes they have options to map your soft keys.

System applications without menu icons

Hello, I've got my nexus running xenon-hd and I've used the Rom settings to restore the traditional button arrangement I had on my captivate as you can see in the screen shot. My question is, with a menu button and search button now, is there a way to get rid of the three doors that appear on gapps like here in the messaging?
On jelly bean on my galaxy s 1, they weren't there because the phone has physical buttons. Not really a big deal, just curious. Thanks

I don't think it uploaded the picture correctly, trying again.
Nope, no dice, will try from my computer later, but for reference I mean this http://img.tapatalk.com/5224c050-7b59-f27b.jpg
Of course this isn't my phone, I have "menu, home, back, search" as the soft keys. But the three dots beside the attach icon are what I'm asking about removing

[Q] Remapping buttons?

I want to the left button to go back and the right button show recents like God intended. Samsung is confused about buttons. Possible?
I see CM 10.1 and other ROMs let you remap some keys, but not back.

Replying to my own post in case it helps someone else: This is possible with slim bean, which let's you remap the back key.

Hardware key mapping.

Hey everyone! I've been looking on how to change my hardware keys. As in I would like to get rid of my navigation bar, which I know how to, and make my power button the home key. Or maybe something like one press goes home and then maybe a double tap would shut the screen off. Any suggestions are welcome. Thank you.

The easiest way is probably to use a Custom rom which supports hardware key remapping like this one:

You also can use Zip Themer. like here:

Now I seen the key mapping feature in du. However I can't make the lock button go to home.
