Hi everyone,
I have an official htc car dock for my htc one x. The problem I'm having is that, when I insert or remove the phone from the dock, the phone will play the ringtone for a few seconds and also turn the screen on. This isn't a huge problem but it can be annoying having to turn the screen off ever time I use the dock. As I drive in my job, I have to insert/remove the phone around 10 times a day, so this little issue is getting annoying.
My question: is there a way to stop my phone both playing the ringtone and turning the screen on every time I use the dock?
I've hunted through the settings but there isn't a setting to stop this from happening.
I've rooted my one x and uninstalled bloatware, but other than that its stock o2 - uk. Software version 2.17.206.2
ok... so what happens if you manually launch the car app? Does it make this noise on car app launch or bt connect? Try triggering all automatic docking functions manually and find the culprit.
I get a beep on bt connect. Maybe that alert noise has been reconfigured in your sound profile somewhere?
I find mine's better behaved using automateit to kick off bt, dock app, volume settings and what have on dock state triggers. This way I have better control and with delays I can remove the phone from the dock without bt disconnecting for a bit. Obviously you need to configure unlock triggers too.
Worst case with automateit would be to temporarily turn down volume on docking maybe.
This has got to be fixable!

this is how you can setup your phone using a cheap gps holder as a car dock. i don't know if real car docks work the same way, but this is what works for me.
first you need a gps holder that will hold your phone snug with the case on.
next, buy a nfc sticker and stick it on the holder.
use nfc task launcher to run a tasker script and bypass the keyguard, set brightness, volume, etc.
my task runs zeam launcher as an app to display the car dock screen (since touchwiz has no landscape mode).
put your audio and gps apps in zeam as tasker shortcuts. since there is no way to switch gps on and off (at least in stock rom), i have tasker go thru the settings pages using dpad input. same thing turns off gps if those apps are closed. i'm also using this method to switch between edge and 4g, to save battery.
to run it you just stick your phone in the holder, plug in usb and audio cables. phone turns on when you start the car, and the audio and gps apps start with 1 button. but personally i just have streaming music start automatically.
if anyone has any ideas how i can improve on this (can i run the audio out thru just the usb cable?) feel free to reply.

I found this really awesome APP in the market to automatically turn Bluetooth on and off when your on a call. This allow great power savings by having access to your bluetooth speakerphone or headset without having bluetooth enabled all day draining power.
I've tested it out to some great extent over the past few days and I must say that it is pretty awesome and should come as a stock option in the future.
The program is pretty simple with 2 check boxes: Enable while on call and Enabled with Powered.
The first option is the main one and will enable bluetooth once you receive or make a call. This allows you to simple just turn on your headset or auto connect without any user intervention. The program will also automatically turn bluetooth once the call has ended.
The second option could also be a great one if you are a heavy bluetooth headset user that never takes it off. This option turns on bluetooth every time it is on a charge, so at night you can dock the device or plug it in, then continue to wear your headset to take calls when needed. This option can also be replaced by a NFC tag but works well enough without requiring a tag. One example would be in your car. Plug your device up and it can auto connect to your bluetooth device.
Pretty impressed with the app and it will end up making my normal install list. The app is free on the market and well worth a download if you use bluetooth for any headset or speakerphone.

Bluetooth on Call
Whats the name? or add a link
It's a surprise! J/k.
It was lunch time and I forgot to post the link before rushing out to eat. Updated OP. I didn't make it or endorse it, but it is just a handy little app. When I first installed it, it wasn't shutting down bluetooth properly... so it would turn on and stay on. But after an update it works as it should.
Do you find bluetooth to use a lot of battery power when on idle (not on an active call)? I find it doesn't really impact my battery at all. I do question if an app like this can have a negative effect on the Bluetooth headset you're using, since it's constantly looking to make a connection when there's no connection to be had... Like the battery drain experienced when a phones cell ratio has to poll for new towers when the signal is low or dead.

thats a good question....
Not at all. The bluetooth simply turns OFF completely on your phone... it isn't sitting idle or anything. The program simply toggles bluetooth on and off like you would otherwise in settings manually.
For the headset, it shouldn't have any negative affect either. If you have your headset physically turned on, but not connected, it will usually go into a hibernate mode to save power.
But here is my situation and how I use my headset:
I don't wear it all day. I have it in my car door handle. I answer the phone manually like always. I get a lot of calls and most are quick. While I'm driving, if I know the call is going to be long or if I want to be handsfree, I simply turn on my headset and put it on. By that time, my phone's bluetooth is already activated and seeking a connection. The headset doesn't know any difference. Once I'm done, the phone turns off bluetooth and I turn off my headset.
If you were to wear your headset ALL day, and like to answer your calls handsfree... then this might not work because there wouldn't be enough time for your headset to connect before the caller goes to VM.
If your a heavy bluetooth user, then obviously leave BT turned on all day. If you have a headset and like to use it occasionally while on calls, this app is great. With this app, all you have to worry about it turning on your headset and putting it in your ear. Once it connects, the call will be transferred to the headset and you can retire your phone.
I haven't tested how well it works having the ear piece already turned on and ready to go but I would suspect that you would have to manually answer it from the phone. It just depends on how fast your headset and phone connect to each other.
Hi Guys
Strange one here.
I picked up a new van tonight with a bluetooth stereo that supports streaming audio over bluetooth so i thought i would give it a go.. music played but then kept on skipping to the next track. weird i thought and played around but couldnt get it to stop doing it.
I then dropped it into car mode (with no charger attached) and the thing will now not come out of car mode every time i press the home button it loads car mode. restarted several times and still does it. It also keeps randomly starting to play music!
When i plug in the USB cable the home button returns to its function of opening all panels preview or returning to home, but the music keeps on randomly starting... oh and now it keeps going to the panel preview by itself.
Anyone else had this? its doing my head in.. its as tho someone is controlling it!

if you can get into settings go to apps > all and find "car" click it and trying clearing data if that doesn't work go back and disable it, that should stop it coming up till you find a fix.
Also i believe that the "skip" on BT headphones is due to Beats Audio nopt sure if that's track skipping or just the music stopping for a seconds either way try disabling beats.
Thanks..
I disabled car app but it carried on doing it.. which was wierd. Restarted it a few more times and it carried on doing it and playing music randomly.
I uninstalled Jays headset control and it seems to have stopped it (as did pressing the power button for 10sec+) may try installing jays again... and try it.
Is jays capable of controlling bluetooth also? i will try enabling car app too.
Any one know of a headset control that allows configurable button presses but works on just the plugin headset?
when i mentioned skip.. it was actual track skip to the next track.. rather the 1.26 skip which was a noise while playing the track..
As a side note.. when i plugged the usb into the computer the 'what do you want to do' type window didnt appear as it should. With the hard restart and jays gone.. it now does!
Cheers for the reply..
Steve
OK tried it in the van this morning, and i now have NO issues.
Looks like Jays was the culprit, worked great for wired but not so for bluetooth. It now works extremely well with the car stereo with the exception that it doesnt transmit the track name etc.. but that may be the headunit (standard hyundai one)
Thanks
Steve
Just got my S3 4 days ago , so far i like it. But i noticed some things and wanted to know if those are "normal" for that phone.
Charging : When charging i plug it in , charging icon appears all is ok, screen lights up then turns off. That's ok, but during the night ( normally my charging time) the screen will turn back on and stays on, it doesn't go away unless i press the power button. Is this normal ?
Bluetooth : When using Bluetooth to listen to music in the car, the sound keeps going up and down at random intervals, it does that too when using the phone. I connect to my Kennwood Excelon head unit, it never did that before with my other phone.
I would have to say no. But need more information.
With charging are you using the stock charge unit? if so are you going direct to the wall or have you tried a different outlet to see if the issue is still happening. I plug mine in at night and the next morning the screen is off but I can't see my phone while sleeping.
With your bluetooth is it just the one device that is causing the volume issue? Have you tried different bluetooth devices to see if the issue still happens. Is your volume change happening with song changes or changing during the same song while playback.
Thanks for helping,
Charging is done with the Samsung Docking station and samsung cable that came with phone, i will try without the docking station.
Bluetooth , yes it's only with the Samsung, on my other phones before ( iphone and Xperia Arc ) everything was ok.
I noticed mine was doing the same thing on my Kenwood DNX7190HD. I didn't have any trouble from other phones either. However, I did turn off the automatic volume adjust for road noise and that seem to help some.

Samsung MM-E430D - Audio docking for Samsung Galaxy S3
I bought this in December and enjoy it a lot. Music quality is very good. You can connect any bluetooth device. Charge your phone and most used function is, in my case, sleep mode.
Together with sugested software, Samsung Wireless Audio with Dock it is very easy to connect. Simply put phone to the dock and it enable BT and connect.
Anyway there is one small problem, where I need your help. I bought my Galaxy S3 just recently and I am completly new to Android.
My idea is like this: Morning my alarm goes on. I use alarm with my favorite playlist so basicaly music player. Instead of snooze or dismiss I would like to start dock and continue my daily routine wit the music on.
My problem is BT connection after switching dock off and back on. For some strange reason phone will not connect to dock. I found software for autoconnect BT devices, but the best I found was, that it will try to reconnect device after screen goes on. Problem is, that when alarm start, dock is still off.
Application from Samsung is here not usefull, because it will only switch BT on and process of connection is automatic then. In this case is BT already switched on.
Is there any application, which reconnect my dock in some circumstances? For example when phone detect dock and start charging?
Or any other smart solution I have no idea about?
Thank you, if you try to help.
So after a few months with the device I can recommend only tasker without lof tweaks and patient.
