[Q] Evervolv P1 - no data connectivity - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi.
Long time reader, first time poster. Or a "noob"
I have flashed the release of Evervolvs excellent P1 JB a few days ago. Everything worked fine up until today when the OS froze. I rebooted and it froze again. I rebooted and now I do not have any data connectivity. I have the H but the bars are constantly grey instead of blue as per usual.
When I installed it I made a back-up. I have flashed that and the problem still occurs.
I have done a full wipe and reflashed and still the same problem.
Could the radio firmware have become corrupt?
I have to confess I am not experienced in flashing a new radio and I am somewhat apprehensive of doing it.
I have rooted, S-Off and have a 1GB EXT4 partition.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
HTC Desire - Was Orange branded but unlocked.
UK Giffgaff Network.
Jelly Bean: Evervolv Turba 3.1.0p1
Baseband Version : 32.56.00.32U_5.17.05.23

Bravo PT4 Ship S-Off
HBOOT-6.93.1002
Microp - 051d
Radio - 5.17.05.23

Dude...what do you expect? It's a pre-alpha.
You just flash a radio from recovery. Not such a big deal.

Also, last time I checked there was a dedicated q&a thread for that. Did we really need another praise here?

@ Lars: I know what you mean. It is a nice mod but nog really trustworthy for everyday use. Losing the connection and fc, sometimes takingout the battery and reboot is the only solution.

It happens, however I've never had any major issues with P1 so far. It's pre-alpha, but I believe fully suitable for a daily use. You can always reflash it or do a factory reset if you bump into any problems. I would have expected people to be prepared for occasinal problems while using custom ROMs If reflashing and wiping everything didn't help, I would try a different ROM. If that does not help, you are probably experiencing HW problems.

Thanks for all the replies.
It turns out it was a network failure, but it all coincided with my phone rebooting
Before I look a total chump, I would like to add that I was using Evervolvs ICS and lost data connectivity after long periods of inactivity ie overnight. I had to turn data connectivity on and off to get it to connect. I thought this problem was one and the same with JB. So there was logic to my madness.
I have narrowed the rebooting issue to the Facebook widget, so I have removed it and all is stable :highfive:
Would anybody recommend flashing a more up to date radio or should I stick with "If it is not broke, dont fix it" mantra? Which I am inclined to do.
Thanks again for the replies.
Lars

[Q] HELP! My Incredible has frequent crashes and reboots

Can't find an answer to this on google or xda. Didn't know if I should post this in General or Q&A.
I have been using my Incredible since it came out. I quickly learned about rooting, roms, s-off... with no problems. I have been running Skyraider almost from the beginning.
Here is the problem: A few days ago, I noticed on the SR thread that there were updates for the radio and hboot. So, I went ahead and flashed them. Almost immediately I started noticing the screen becoming unresponsive. After a minute or two I did a battery pull, rebooted, and again after a little while, freeze and reboot. I also noticed that even when the phone is awake but screen off, it would wake itself up. The rebooting and freezing makes it impossible to use my phone.
I tried everything I could think of:
Nandroid restore (obviously didn't work since this doesn't effect hboot or radio).
Reinstalled fresh SR Rom wiping everything, including dalvik, and did factory reset.
Finally, I downgraded back to the hboot and radio versions I had before, still no effect. (Baseband version 2.15.00.07.28, hboot .79 ).
I tried installing another ROM (Uncommon sense) to make sure it wasn't a ROM issue, ..same problem.
Please, any help would be much appreciated. I don't know what my next step should be.

No overclocking, I don't use setcpu, and I have been running the stock kernel. But it does feel like overclocking.
I wonder if the timing of events is just coincidence and its a hardware issue. I've had my Inc since June... rooted s -off in july and had no problems until about a month ago. I don't oc I use the new stock kernel but my phone hates change. Even flashing a small mod will cause rebooting.... and navigation always causes it. Phone heats up fast with these particular activities too but sometimes it will reboot at only 35c after a flash. I'm thinking hardware

For now things are working, let's hope they stay that way.

[SOLVED] help! Can't enable bluetooth

EDIT: SOLVED!!!! it was a usb brick. see last post for details.
hi all,
I have a problem with my desire.
Bluetooth won't turn on. If I try to enable BT, it says grey'ed out for like 10 secs and the goes back to unchecked.
I got this device used so I don't have many background information. All I can tell is I tried different ROMs and wiped all I could, but still no luck. I actually highly suspect this might be an hardware issues, but I'd really like to try everything before shipping back to assistance.
Here are my current specs:
htc desire amoled
bravo pvt1 ship s-on
hboot 0.80.0000
radio 5.11.05.27
rom cyanogenmod 7.1.0
kernel 2.6.37.6-cyanogenmod-geb50077
Recovery: Clockworkmod
ANY hint highly appreciated.
Got exactly the same problem.
BT worked while running the former stable CM release. I first noticed this issue when flashing latest CM. You tried other ROMs which didnt work?
Did you try other Radios as well?
I am not an expert, but I think it could be a problem of the radio. I never totally understood what the radio does, so could anybody help with this guess? I never changed Radio as there was no need for (never touch a running system).
lexo, did you try rolling back to 7.0.3 to see if BT would work again?
I was also thinking about radio, exp b\c it seems to not be a ROM-specific issue, as I have tried several: LeeDroid, InsertCoin, MIUI, as well as a stock rom.
I believe the point with radio is not necessarily about having the latest, but finding the one that works well with one's rom. Also, there is RIL, but that I don't know what it does.
No, didnt try that yet.
I use BT in my car to listen to music only so I didnt notice the issue at first. Now i am thinking about buying Galaxy Nexus, so I am not too exited about that point. But as I am willing to pass my Desire to my lil sister I would love to have it fixed.
Whats "RIL"? Think I never heard about it.
Don't know if this is relevant but had a similar problem with Bluetooth, wifi and Mobile data yesterday. None of them had connectivity!
The remedy that worked for me was to wipe the cache and dalvik, reflash CM7.1 via recovery (but remember to also flash the Google apps package) and soft reset.
No data is lost this way.
Hope that helps!

This may not be relevant but when I couldn't enable Bluetooth on my done when I have a USB brick.....
Try the USB brick fix it may work

update:
so far I did:
- wiped everything including dalvik and reflashed cm7 - no luck
- removed files in etc/bluetooth [read somewhere] - nuthing
- applyied a .zip update that is supposed to fix a possible USB brick - no change.
@LEXO: I think you might try the first two things I did, in your case they might work.
So now I flashed a RUU Rom and reverted to stock s-on bootloader, hboot, radio (ril, too, I believe, though I dunno how to tell ril version) and recovery.
The only thing I'm not completely sure about is the USB brick fix, but otherwise it's ready to ship to assistance.
@Reaper, can you point me to the USB fix you referred to?
guys!!! Thanks everyone, expecially reaper.
My BT is working again!!! turn out it was a USB brick, which I was able to solve fairly easy.
I had tried a usb brick fix that involved flashing a .zip, which I did. However still no BT changed so I assumed phone was not bricked after all.
Also, I always assumed usb brick would involve major cd and usb connect malfunctions, and that was not my case at all.
However it must have been that fix that didn't work, because I then followed the guide on this forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=691639: got my CID via fastboot, modified the files accordingly, put them on sd card, got temp root with visionary, issued the necessary commands with "free root system tool" terminal, rebooted, and voilà! BT is finally green.
I can't believe I made it!

[Q] Desire reboots

Hi people!
My HTC Desire has a annoying problem, being that it reboots spontaneously.
Well, maybe not really spontaneously.
I believe that it reboots when I (should) receive a call or message, maybe also with push notifications, but that I don't know.
I tried but can't reproduce the problem by calling or texting myself with another phone. But I does happing when people call or text me, not always tho.
With 2G only of Wifi, I have not experienced the problem.
It began while being on MIUI (with a 3th latest radio or so/beta/nog directly after a update). Because MIUI began to irritate me with its speed and bug now and then, I wiped it all and flashed CM7.1 STABLE, incl latest radio, and installed my apps again.
Still reboots.
Flashed a way older radio. Still reboots.
Pretty important, it does NOT get hot.
Facts:
- 3G off, not experienced a problem
- when 3G off, sometimes no signal
- does not get hot
- different radio's, different roms
- slipt out of my hands and fell in a bath, got I out before it even hit the bottom. This happened two of three 2 days before the problems began
I read about HTC reboot problems on Vodafone NL a while ago.. I am on this network, but the posts are not recent..
I read about HTC Desire reboot problems while using the phone, after it's getting hot (2010 posts).
I did had reboots a few months earlier, but that was a bug on MIUI.
Anyone an idea what the problem is?
Make a complete backup and change rom. If problem persits, go back to stock. If desire still reboots, call HTC.

I was having reboot problems with LeeDroid. Installed Tristan202's kernel, fixed it right up.
Are you undervolting or overclocking? That can cause random reboots when the system can't distinguish the actual signals from the random noise and interference, wither because it's too fast (overclocked too high) or too weak (undervolted too low). Bump up the voltage and/or reduce the clock speed a little, and see if that helps.
I didn't do anything with the clockspeed or so. The max CPU frequency is adjustable in CM7, but left it on 998MHz. I'll try 1075 now?
The link to Leedroid is a froyo. But I like gingerbread. HTC even made a gingerbread rom (available on htc dev center).
And the phone had worked normally on gingerbread.
An other problem I had for a longer time.
Sometimes the phone only uploads and doesn't download (as I can see by watching the arrows). So I internet connection doesn't work then. Putting it on flightmode and back does solve the problem.
The tristan kernel:

I've got same problems. After rooting my HTC Desire and installing Revolution ROM, it has worked well for about 24h, then i was surprised with disappearing all my data (contacts, messages, settings, was needed to log in back to google, sync was off), so i set up everything again, after few hours of normal work, i noticed that i have to enter SIM card PIN code. ok, done. After few more hours SIM card PIN code again. So i reflashed with another custom ROM and phone started to reboot each time at SIM card pin code enter screen, or after finishing booting. Few minutes ago i tryed to reflash with another ROM, which i used to have few months ago and which was pretty stable (Reflex), and now im stuck at HTC boot logo
HBOOT 0.93
Radio 5.11.05.27
Use a RUU, make sure it's the right one for your phone or that you have a goldcard.
I would try Oxygen Rom, it happened to me in the past but it was fixed a bunch of releases back.
Hmm,. running on 1075Mhz now and no reboots since.. while being on 3G and receiving a few calls and (whatsapp) messages.
I don't want to bump into conclusions to fast, but at least it's remarkable.
Or my phone is dryed up.
(@random_factor?) IF the 1075Mhz setting is the solution, how is that possible??
And I just hit the trackball to enter my phone and tadaaaa: reboot
RUU Bravo flashed.. First flashed hboot stock. Still on alpharev bootloader and S-OFF, so if phones still reboots, I must not forget to flash the stock bootloader... hehe. I will post the results ofcourse of the stock rom ofcourse.
[EDIT]
Being on stock rom/radio, I just had another reboot. Guess it's safe to say it's a hardware problem..
1Ro try to install non-A2SD Rom. it'd worked for me.
Funkypotatoe, I've installed the RUU for my phone. So I'm on the original froyo with original radio, so no a2sd and I'm not using android's original apps2sd now.

yeah, call HTC and request a pickup, hopefully you'll get a Desire S
also make sure your bootloader is back to stock (did you flash the downgrader before you ran the RUU?) if you've just got everything stock after the RUU, apart from the bootloader (if you're still S-OFF), go to my guide and there's a section about still s-off after RUU, do the 2nd method since it's quicker and safer..... and if you're already S-ON just ignore everything I've said and call HTC
Yes I'm still S-OFF.
I've checked your guide: Nice work!
I in doubt of if I should send it to HTC, because of the water incident. There are little white strips in the phone and on the battery that turn red when in contact with water.
The strip on the battery is redish, just from wiping it with a 'wet' towel (there were here and there little drops of water). The visible strip in the phone is still white. Don't know if there are more strips inside the phone. I would suck if I send to phone for warranty, and get as a result: waterdamage, 35 euro research costs.

[Q] Wi-Fi doesn't work. Need help. I'm new to this.

Hello, I'm new here to this and to the flashing stuff and rest.
I wanted to do some change to my buzz so I just flashed my 2.2.1 to 2.3.7 (CyanogenMod-7.1.0.1).
Everything was fine, flashed Gapps also.
The only thing is my wi-fi isn't working.
It can't even connect. It's like refreshing by 3 secs and doing that in a circle.
/// What I Did:
- Reflashed CyanogenMod twice.
- Reflashed my radio (the newest version anyway).
/// Specs:
- Android 2.3.7
- CyanogenMod-7.1.0.1
- Radio 3.35.20.10
- HBOOt 6.01.1002
- S-OFF
Did everything today and WiFi was working in the morning perfectly (on 2.2.1)
Just let me know if you want to know something more. Thanks guys.
Heard that Regulatory domain may cause that problem. Tips?
There is a cm mod 7.2 and that must fix it i think

first of all: you asked if regulatory domain could have to do with your problem. If you have access to your WiFi's settings you could check that by simply changing the channels (the procedure for that might be totally different in different routers). From my experience I doubt it anyway but I might be wrong here.
Another possibility to check if your phone's WiFi works or not would be to log into a different network - no idea if you could do that.
The reason I'm suggesting this first is, we could of course suggest things you might try with your phone - but - if your WiFi is the problem this might take some days and wasting lots of posts without any result or help
Did you do wipe all? I think if you installed CyanogenMod 7.2 it would be ok then. Give a try
Some tests that you can do:
- Flash an older radio, to see if the radio didn't got corrupted somehow. Reboot the phone and then flash the newer again;
- Flash the stable CM7.2;
Did you have issues with the stock ROM and the wifi?

[Q] Phone restarts when using 3G (GSM/WCDMA)

Hi XDA people,
This is my first post in XDA and its a problem i am facing. Whenever i switch to GSM/WCDMA Mode and start using the 3G internet, the phone restarts with 5 - 7 vibrating alerts. I did searched this forum before posting and got similar posting for HTC Buzz
BIG ISSUE: 3G problem..!!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1823816
Went through that and found out that by updating the radio this problem can be fixed, so went ahead to find the udpated radio and hboot and updated them using RUU, got a tutorial for the same in XDA forums
So updated Radio from 7.53.39.03M to 7.54.39.28M
Hboot : 1.08.0000
But the problem is still there, as soon as i switch it to 3G mode, i can see the H symol comes up for the GPRS and the network changes to R (Roaming- no clues why this happens but i am fine with this as long it works.) and within minutes it restarts making 5-7 vibrating alerts before rebooting.
can someone help me with this, is there a way to fix this for HTC Wildfire S (Marvel)

it happened to me, the only solution I found was flash the backup of my original Rom Sense PREROOT, turn on 3G and check that it worked.
Then without turning off the 3G flash another rom clean (a bit like the problem of the gps).
is a bit long but I was going crazy, my Willy sometimes restarted.
it may be useful with my HTC Buzz it worked ... but you're rooted?

Well, I don't know anything about the Marvel. Both phones are quite different besides their names and enclosure.
Anyway I don't think that your phones radio will be touched when flashing a ROM or restoring a nandroid backup or that you could wipe, clear or format your radio partition - so in theory it could work with the Marvel, too.
A short explanation about the whole thing: The Buzz has well known issues with the radio (no GPS or BT, WiFi probs) - even directly after rooting and flashing the first custom ROM. There's also a chance that something might go wrong or get messed up when flashing different ROMs, installing tweaks etc. and the problem is that the radio resides on a separate partition which can't be wiped or formatted. All this sounds pretty logical to me but I'm not a developer so I might be totally wrong
The solution seems to be to flash a different radio (older/newer doesn't matter) to "overwrite" the current one - and sometimes reflash the current ROM again.
The problem I had has been hard to spot and even harder to solve. Luckily I found out that switching on 3G initiated the reboots (after quite a while and by accident, really). I made a lot of tests and could put it down to that (WiFi, 2G had no probs - phone rebooted only when switching to 3G or switching on data when 3G has been activated/chosen).
Furthermore I found the "solution" by accident, too: I reflashed the current radio without any success. Then I also tried an older radio - no success. So, as a final attempt, I started to download a RUU to reset the phone to factory condition.
The download server has been awful slow - it took ages to download the file - so I (almost randomly) decided to flash the previous radio again.
I couldn't believe it: that did the trick. (Luckily) I rebooted again, switched on data and 3G and noticed that the phone didn't reboot anymore.
So if you're able to flash a different radio - just give it a try. For the Buzz you need to be S-OFF to flash a radio - no idea about your phones.
I'd be glad if that would work for the Marvel, too :fingers-crossed:
I found this tread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1485345
if you do not solve in any other way you could give it a try
I do not know the Marvel, but the Buzz htc are not all the same, the same solution to different results :silly:
