Hi all,
I wonder if anyone can suggest an solution to an issue I am having with my Galaxy note 2 when I try and share a picture directly from the Gallery.....when you are viewing a picture and hit the share button I am given 6 options only (bluetooth, ChatON, G Drive, Dropbox, Email and Facebook)....but no option for sharing via Gmail.....is this normal for a Samsung phone?? I'm more used to Google Nexus handsets, and they certainly have a Gmail option available in the share list.......I'm surprised I cant find this on a Samsung, as the OS is Google's own OS...albeit with the Samsung TouchWiz interface on top.
Any thoughts/ideas??
Thanks!
No problem here.
Gmail is one of the many options.

Probably a silly question, but you do have gmail set up as an account on the phone, right?
I found when i first started using the phone that my options for sharing were limited but as i've added more accounts and more apps they've all been added to the sharing list. built in mail app, gmail app, whatsapp, wordpress, instagram, dropbox. None of them were in the list at first until the accounts were set up.

yes, it's installed...i actually received the alert that you replied to this thread via gmail...the odd thing is, i had the hotmail app installed but not setup and it gave me the option to send via hotmail. when i selected hotmail it walked me through the setup and then sent the pic.
i tried to uninstall gmail and reinstall but it wouldn't allow it...
I THINK I FIGURED IT OUT...!!!
for some reason, the photos i have sync'd with picasa doesn't have the option to send via gmail (i had it on my nexus tho), however the pics NOT sync'd with picasa shows gmail as a sharing option...this is weird...

This was going to be my next question. It seems it will only allow you to share a picture if it is stored locally, except with very limited options. Picassa photos on mine will only share via;
bluetooth
chatON
google+
instagram
messaging
picassa (why, its already on there?!)
S Note
whatsapp
wordpress

It is quite frustrating. Although from within dropbox app you can share via whatever means ... and you can setup cloud backup from the settings menu to use dropbox and sync photos. So this is one option. But even then you cant share a dropbox photo directly from the gallery.
Seems odd to me that there is no official google picasa app too

just downloaded haxsync 1.4.1 and im having issues syncing past the A Contacts
was wondering if anyone has found a fix for this or knows whats up?
the XDA Link from the Android market page is dead
HaxSync issues
I am also having issues with HaxSync and was looking for the developer's thread here on XDA but it seems to be removed.
I am currently running 1.4.3 version of HaxSync on Galaxy Nexus and the first time it synced the contacts everything was fine. Then I swapped batteries in my phone and I am now missing contact pictures. The contacts are still synced with HaxSync, but half the contact pictures are gone.
just updated today to 1.4.3 everything synced but i think i've got some battery drain issues now

Yes, I am seeing this as well. Like 2 hours on battery and was at 50%.
Also, if you want to test out my theory, try pulling your battery and when you boot back up I wanted to see if all your contact pictures were still there or not.
correction MAJOR Battery drain issues 50% in 2 hours, had to uninstall
to late on the battery screwed everything up when i uninstalled had to redo all my contacts

The hi-res pictures issue is an issue with GMail not allowing hi-res photos. If you notice your contacts with Google + have great looking photos, but the others do not.

The contacts that are linked with Google+ in my people app STILL have pixelated pictures.
HaxSync is great... However, since I used SyncMyPix, it actually downloaded the picture and inserted it into the contact that way it was available when I went to my Google Contacts on my desktop computer.
Which brings me to my next point, apparently contacts will use whatever picture is stored on your Google Contacts instead of any service trying to sync over top of it. So now I have the option to REMOVE the pictures completely from the contact and then allow HaxSync to 'faux' sync them or just stick with the low quality version till something more suitable works.
Incidentally, does anyone know of ANY program or extension or anything that will sync the profile pictures from Facebook to Google Contacts? I found one called Google Contact Sync, but it grabs the low quality version instead of taking the HQ one.
Anyway, hope someone can help out with any of that.
Android will use the FIRST photo a joined contact has...
So, if you have low-res photos from Google and add hax-sync on top, then you are stuck with the low-res photos for any auto-joined contacts.
However, the reverse is true... if you have hax-sync contact and then add Google contacts, it will continue to use the high-res photos from Haxsync.
So, the solution is, delete your Google account from "Accounts & Sync," Sync your haxsync account, THEN add your Google account back in.
If you have any duplicates with slightly different names that don't get auto-joined, make sure you start with the Haxsync version of the contact when you do an "Edit > Join" to select the Google version. This will retain the high-res photo.
You can simply chose which pic to use for the contact.
-> chose contact
-> menu -> edit
-> in the edit menu, you should see all the accounts linked to this contact
-> tap on the picture next tu HaxSync
-> chose "Use this picture".
Voila!
^^^^ True, but then you need to do it for each and every contact individually. If you delete your Google account and re-add it, it will automatically keep the high-res pic as the default. Much easier.

Ummm, it's also used no data, so apparently it's not syncing anything for you.
Did you go to accounts & settings, and add your hax sync account, then go into the account itself and check the sync box? because the app doesn't do anything if you don't do those steps.

Also, is there anyway to actually SAVE the pictures into the Contact so it's ALWAYS there? Or will I have to wait for SyncMyPix to do it.

yes, I've set it to sync every 12h. it always looks like that..
Hey guys,
i am using all my android phones for a while with all the gapps provided. i really like them, but there are some things that make me angry and really would like to get rid of them.
let me start with the contacts syncing.
contacts app is fine, especially the way u can attach pictures to your contacts, which will be displayed in nice looking hd quality when getting a call.
so far so good. lets sync with your google account. oh well... picutures really look bad now. and each time you sync with it... it will be bad again, no matter what
(i know, the problem is the googleservice itself. we cant do **** here)
but how to handle this? if there would be another way to safe my contacts in a easy way, i would like to hear it.
so first point: no need for contacts sync
next point is gallery. i dont need the sync for it. google does not need to know anything
next point, music app. its fine, but there is no need for me attach it to my google-acc
calendar is nice and will be used. but even with this, i do not need it on other devices.
last two points are the market and maps. here we get a problem
i do need both of them. is there a way to avoid using a google account?
this could be a workaround for ppl who dislike using a google account in future maybe... if it is even possible. i dont know right now
You can disable account-wide sync for all the apps that you've mentioned. Gallery is a little tricky especially if you are using G+ but it's possible. In fact, you can skip signing into a Google acocunt completely should give you a clue.
You will only have problems with the market. As far as I know, you have to have a google account to download apps from the google market. But you could always install 3rd markets like Amazon appstore, Slideme and GetJar, off the top of my head.
the biggest problem i have is the contacts.
is there a way to easy backup them and restore, maybe when switching roms or whatever?
some for my calendar. how to restore it without signing in?
ps: i am not using g+
pps: if someone would know if there is a data folder or whatever, where the contents of my contacts and sms and calendar are saved, that would be enogth for me.
coz then i could just cut it off there and place it in my new roms
Your problem with contacts is bad picture quality..? Then don't put pictures on your contacts.. Google isn't looking at your pictures either. If you want to use the market you need a Google account. None of the information is stored on your phone so there is no folder on your phone that will let you back these up.

You can completely disable all syncing to your Google account if you want, but you're really just making it harder on yourself than it needs to be.
I realize there are some little niggles that are annoying about how its working right now, but I think its a bigger hassle to completely turn it off and do it all manually with a mishmash of other services.
if there would be a solution to have high quality contact pictures, i would use it. no problem with it
but it seems really ugly. dont you have that ****?
just as an example i found on the internet...

there must be any workaround for this problem...?!?

You just said it yourself.. don't sync your contacts. You aren't forced to sync anything. If you get pictures from Facebook there is an app called Haxsync that will give you high quality pictures.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
thats the point, where to get my contacts if not syncing when switching the roms?
and no, i dont use any social network
STOP
We are forced to sync! Ok one can avoid it if you now what options to be checked and which not. But in first place everything is synced to somewhere. You have to some kind of "pro" to avoid it completly
I had all my contacts accidently synced to google after android "stole" my thunderbird contacts claimed that they have to be googlemail.com contacts and then after an accidently removal of an small hook evrythink went to google.
The best was that my thunderbird then all contacs removed as well, because my phone said "all contacts in the homeaccount have been deleted"
###Just to have my anger put at least somewhere###
To come back to the orginal poster:
Now it works all perfectly well with birdiesync (i read somewhere but havent tried thta MyPhoneExplorer would to the trick as well), i have only an google account for market access reasons. I dont use gmail (as google reads all mails in order have the right advertisement for me) but k9. Just deactivate syncing under settings.
But i cant so far confirm that the contact pics arent downsized. Because i dont really care...

Sorry for asking a stupid question, but have you enabled "Camera Upload" from the Dropbox app?
Also, try clearing the data & cache of the Gallery app. You need to go to the "Applications Manager" and select the "All" tab for getting the Gallery app. Restart the Gallery app and I think it should detect the Dropbox photos.

I have it enabled yes.
Cleared the cloud service, gallery and dropbox apps, rebooted, still no good
Dropbox files are in the cloud. They have to be on your phone for the Gallery to detect them. What if you make those photo files as "favorites" in the Dropbox app? All "favorites" are stored on your phone. But I remember when I first started my phone, I had numerous Dropbox photo albums on my phone by default. I just deleted all of them.
Will go home and check it out.
No your wrong.
The Note2 has a cloud service that can pull dropbox pictures into the gallery app (by syncing them) they are not stored locally, they are on a cloud!
you can get to these settings via menu > settings > cloud
It has nothing to do with the dropbox app, its a separate service samsung have setup using the dropbox api.
EDIT:
sorry, it does save them locally, but it is still treated as a sync, if you delete from there it will delete from your dropbox
they are saved in /sdcard0/cloudagent/cache/root

This feature doesnt display photos on your phone, it displays photos that are in the cloud aka the picasa and facebook features. IUt doesn't seem to be connecting to the cloud or reading from it correctly for me
It's working for me. Pics show up in gallery under "Camera Uploads"
Not sure why, but everyone who said it's working so far added dropbox account during the set-up wizard, and those with issues added it after.
It shouldn't make any difference, but it is the only link I can find between those that are working and those that are not.
I have added my dropbox account in setup. Also upload photos turned on.
I think issue is about with the size of my dropbox account. I have 75GB space on Dropbox and 27GB pics/videos.
Sometimes cloud service forcecloses.
I have installed Dropsync app. Now downloading all my pics to my sdcard.

Note 2 Dropbox Sync
It was working on my galaxy note 2 initially but then I removed dropbox and reinstalled and the gallery sync etc had stopped. The quick fix for me was to go into settings - cloud then there is an option called Contents Sync (with dropbox) which when activated asks to give permisson and after this all works great again. Hopefully this helps picture attached
I am now almost certain those with issues is due to having too many images in dropbox.
Samsung make a local copy of all the pics on your sd card, if you have more than 15gb (very maxiumum!) imagesi n dropbox it won't be able to sync as it cannot save them all, the app has not been programmed to allow some and not others therefore cloud-agent just force closes.
It doesn't seem to check for .nomedia so the only way to fix is to remove the images from dropbox, or turn sync off and just use the dropbox app.
Yeah I think that's the issue too. Those who it doesn't work for so far have large drop boxes with many images on. Those who it works for (so far) are the opposite...

Why on Earth would you want to do that?
I have 3 Gmail accounts (2 Apps for Domains, 1 regular Gmail) on my phone and use the Gmail app for them all.

I only have to set up 1 email account on my phone (I change roms a lot).. when on desktop I don't have to swap accounts to check mails. All in one place and it just works.

If the stock app is set up by Exchange Active Sync then you'll have push notifications.
'Swyped' from my GT-N7100
Stock app..
I would go for the stock app. The problem I have with the gmail app is the font size. I tried my best but u cannot zoom text in and out. Landscape mode of stock app has nice email list on the left and email on the right. nice.
I use 1 exchange, 1 gmail and one normal pop3. So in other words I had no other choice
(No i do not want to combine them.)

The latest version of gmail allows you to pinch to zoom, but you have to enable it in the app's settings. I'm using the gmail app but only because I have modified the app's DPI settings using the xposed framework and the appsettings apk. This allows me to have a split screen mode in landscape mode just like the stock mail app.
If I was unrooted, I'd probably go with the stock mail app. It's natively optimized for our phone and plays nice with the s-pen.
Google completely disabled .zip file attachments in Gmail app on Android..
for me zip files are crucial , FOR THAT REASON HAVE TO STICK WITH STOCK MAIL APP

Why not just upload that zipped file to your Google Drive account and link to it in the email?
Gmail set @240dpi with Xposed Framework = WIN
