Is there an app where I could play music over a phone call? Not, music played through the loudspeakers while I have a call, but rather the music will be sent over the call to be heard by the person (or computer) at the other end of the line...
Thanks!

hahahahaha no man that would cause alot of problems did you think about this idea befor you posted it did you mean like an elevatop music type thing.
Like what you get when you're on hold? I doubt there is but that'd be really cool and just another "there's an app for that" moment.

lmfao that'd actually be awesome. you gotta put the phone down for a minute so u play some waiting music. rofl.
hahahahaha, yeah, I'd probably do that... LOL "All of ME is busy right now, please stay on the line and the next ME will be with you shortly"
lol, anyways, what I'm trying to do is just some small experiment, where my computer will pickup a call (either through skype or voice modem) then receive commands based on the sound I'm playing over the phone... I thought voice commands would be nice, but I was just thinking of something else to try, and that came into my mind that's why I'm curious if anyone knows of any app that can do it... lol
So I've discovered a pretty nasty bug that seriously affects my listening pleasure.
I should start by saying that I am a recent Android convert, the GN beeing my first foray into the realm of Android devices.
Having used an iPhone for the past 3 years (and mostly for rocking out to my favourite music on my daily commute) I was initially really excited with the quality of the audio on the GN, even when using the stock iPhone earbuds. This issue however, has nothing to do with the earphones, it happens even when the phones are disconnected
I noticed however that my music had a tendency to start clipping (clicking horribly while playing HQ files in most supported formats). My first step was to download pretty much every decent player I could find - right now, I have WinAmp and PowerAmp installed.
I eventually narrowed the problem down to the lock screen, more specifically when the screen blacks out after being idle for nn minutes. s
o long story short, if I play my music with the phone unlocked it all sounds really good, as soon as I lock the screen (clicking the power button at top right to switch to black screen) the music starts clipping horribly at very irregular intervals.
I've asked a mate to try the same steps on is GN and he says he can't hear any difference, so wanted to put this to the community to see if anyone else has experienced anything similar. Does this sound like a return job?
Being an android noob, I have no idea of any methods of providing debug info, so any input is welcome.
Thanks
Sky
i think all android phones do this...... at least my desire did this as well. Thats if you mean a very slight break when the screen goes black ?

Its just one fraction of a second blip as the screen locks in my experience.....
NO, in my case it's constant, like every few seconds... sounds like a case for replacement imo

Ya that's not a usual problem. Sounds defective. What file types are the music?

when the screen is locked on any Android phone, the CPU is underclocked to save power.
what you're experiencing is audio buffer underruns due to the CPU slowing down. this is normal.
have you tried playing the music using the default music player? you shouldn't experience the problem using the default music player.
Try changing the encoding of your music. The phone is probably struggling to decode your current format in the underclocked state.

I know where you are coming from but I don't experience this issue on my GN.
Go to power amp. Settings, audio engine, advanced tweaks and set the buffer to huge. I don't think it will work as it seems to me its when your device goes into sleep. Like the CPU is being undervolted too much. If it happens on the stock music app (Google music) I would send it back as defective.
OR - Maybe Google don't want you to use ****ty iPhone headphones after all.

it is more likely going to be related to the third party apps he is using to listen to music, that don't know how to keep the CPU alive in a higher state while the screen is locked. I had the same problem on my Nexus S with Skype for a while, where I couldn't actually put the screen to sleep using the power button while in a call - the audio would buffer underrun like crazy. Skype eventually pushed an update and it fixed the problem.

I was thinking the same. My GS2 had the same issue with power amp. But the stock app was fine. Crazy android phones but we love ya.

Not related to the ****ty iPhone headphones (lol thanks for that Nat) or the 3rd party apps I'm afraid... the same issue happens when I use the built in speaker, the GN issued earphones, and also regardless of whether I use the default music app or poweramp/winamp.
Changing the encoding of my music is going to be an extensive task if I have to do this for my entire library (30K+ tunes) I'll be here til next year.

what format is your music in, what sample rate and bit depth is it?
ie: FLAC 24bit / 192KHz
not sure oscillik, a range of formats (mainly MP3, some AAC) and bitrates (nothing less than 192k and mostly 320k) again not sure of the samplerate either, would have to check my library which I have no access to for now as I'm on the road

those formats and bit rates should be just fine. just to let you know, bitdepth and bit rate (emphasis on the space also) are completely different things. i think it's safe to assume that the sample rate for your music is likely to be 44.1KHz (which is standard).
you may have a faulty handset, I would demonstrate the problem to the store you bought it from and get a replacement handset.
I get the clipping too but only with Power amp and not the stock player.
Never had this on any phone before.
Might have to get rid! Anyone want to buy a GN 2 days old?

@spewy check NatTheCats post about settings in power amp, they did the trick on my device and strangely enough I'm no longer having the problem in the default player either. Thanks to Oscillix and Nat for your help.

Hi,
Does anyone else experience interrupts while streaming audio (Google Music, Tunein, Spotify and other online radiostreamers) over WiFi on the Galaxy Nexus when the screen locks? Even tried to enable the stream lower quality in those apps but it still gives me interrupts / stops.
Also when downloading larger games they take forever to download while the screen is off, from the moment I turn screen on again the download goes fast again.
I have no problems while streaming over edge/3G (even with screen off) and over WiFi when i prevent the screen from locking. 'Wi Fi sleep policy' is set to never. Tried several wireless routers (Belkin, Apple Time Capsule, Linksys) all gave the same problem. My Samsung Galaxy S doesn't have all those problems.
Is this a bug that can be fixed?
Hope someone can help out.
Kind Regards
tijru
PS: Sorry for my bad english
Have the same issue. A update is definitely in the works. Wifi never sleeps...never works!
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I haven't had that issue, but on a slightly related topic, I would love for Google Music to support gapless playback. Maybe cache one or two of the next songs in the playlist or something. Might not be that simple, but it sucks listening to albums that have continuous music between tracks.
Hope it gets fixed because it's something really annoying. Makes my phone a bit useless for music streaming and that is something I use it for 70% of the time. Had some similar issues with my nexus s and that never got fixed .
Hope there is news about this soon because when it not gets fixed I still can send it back to the store and get a refund.
Does anyone know where to report bugs for the galaxy nexus?

Thanks for the replies.
Yep, mine does it too. I haven't heard if 4.0.3 addresses it.
4.04 does not fix too.
Using Ir11 Beta 2 IMM30B / 4.0.4: MoDaCo Custom ROM by Paul Obrien.
I've found an app that fix it https://market.android.com/details?id=org.wahtod.wififixer&hl=en.
Let me know if it work for you

Doesn't work for me. Streaming via CIFS on PowerAmp works fine until the screen goes off - then repeated stuttering noises and pauses. With or without WifiFixer.
My little Samsung T679 Exhibit II on Peach Sunrise v1.2a works fine as is.

Has anyone been able to find a WORKING app which records audio from a Bluetooth headset on the Galaxy Nexus?
The ones I've tired force close or can't find the audio source...
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
when someone calls your google voice phone number. you can pickup the phone call and press 4 to record the call; this works even if you're speaking on a bluetooth headset.
I don't use Google voice, but rather was looking for something to record memos instead of phone calls.

I've tried the ones which explicitly say they record Bluetooth audio, but none of them work. Regular recording apps will always pick the mic off the phone, which isn't what I'm looking for.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
Thats not actually true from my experiences. By connecting a bluetooth headset it should 'hijack' the speaker and microphone and use your bluetooth one by default.

With the app you posted, using a galaxy Nexus?
I'll give it a try.
EDIT: that didn't work at all. It records only from the built in mic.

this is true of the sg2 on various roms i think its pretty damning that a smart phone cant record phone calls really makes android look like a pile o rubbish. i have tried alot to get call recording on a bluetooth headset and nothing works. once after loading about 20 apps on an old ics rr rom it started working litrally by magic so i know it is possible to work but no one seems to care or managed to do it which is deffinetly very pathetic quite fankly. concidering i can watch two channels of live tv while down loading a film using my phone as router over 3g etc all at the same time its amazing but i cant record a phone call ffs.
Its now 2015, has anyone had any luck with this or found and app in the store that actually works. Cheers

I found one!!
There's an app called Boldbeast call recorder that has worked with Bluetooth on my Note 4: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.boldbeast.recorder&hl=en
The good is that it works (on the note 4), the bad is that this app is $11 (free version without auto-record is available), but it works and it saves me from having to waste more time looking for a solution. :good:
I DO NOT KNOW if this works on the Galaxy Nexus, for whoever still owns that phone.

I can confirm that Boldbeast works on my Galaxy S4 (i9500) as well. I had to do a little bit of tweaking (give the app root access, change SELinux to permissive(there's an app on XDA for that)), but I was able to get it to record both ways with a bluetooth headset (Plantronics voyager edge) when I put the Record Mode to "Alsa Mode (Root)" However the volume is a little low, and when I tried to give it a 20% boost in volume in the app settings, the recorded conversation was really really distorted. Turned it back to 0% volume increase, and it's at least not distorting the sound.
I am using a custom ROM (n4/s6 by @alemtro) and kernel (can't remember but as it turns out it's not permissive), and of course it's rooted.
ACR has a far better UI, and does auto call in the free version, but they don't want to play around with SELinux etc because that is against the Play Store terms. So if you don't need BT recording, that's a better app, but like me if you really need BT recording, Boldbeast seems to be the only option (and a good one).
I've used 2 diff ROMs and I get the same result. Anyone else? If I listen continuely, after 1 track the next will play out of the phone speaker not earphones or thru aux jack when plugged into my stereo. I'm wondering if this is a ROM issue or a Play issue or S3 issue.
I get same issue on stock not rooted... no idea what it is

Running 11.0 jellybomb and have the same issue.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
I have the same problem when I plug my S3 into my AUX jack in my car. It doesn't matter what app I'm using, if I change the song or any buffering happens (basically any interruption in the output) the output switches to my phone speaker. I have to unplug then plug back in the audio cable from the car's aux jack to get it to work again.
This happened on a stock rom and happens on the current "GOODNESS" SG3 ROM.
I'm on the stock ROM and I'm having the same problem, except it's when I get text messages and it gets interrupted, music starts playing from the phone and I pause and re-play it again for it to come out of headphones again.
I now have another issue...now my media sound get stuck on no sound. . Can't move the sound bar have to reset phone to get media audio. .. any help ?

Everyone should contact Google about this. They are looking into it for me, they even had me send them a log. It happens frequently, still hasn't been fixed....please, if you have the same issue as me report it so they have more cases...
According to Google Play Team they made some major changes which should have resolved the issue and to let them know if the issue persists. See the attached screenshot of my email for proof (or view full screen at http://i.imgur.com/Z8Hrm.png )
