Maybe because this rom is a much newer one, Kies isn't recognizing my device, idk
This is a summary of what I used and did, The android installed on my phone is the 4.0.3 version i found online. The video link at the bottom is a video of someone with the same rom. ALSO I HAVE TRIED USING MY SISTER'S GALAXY S2 PHONE AND GOT IT INTO ODIN MODE (her phone has never been rooted) TO SEE IF HER PHONE IS RECOGNIZED AND IT WAS. My phone isn't. So there is nothing wrong with the connection, it's something in my phone causing it not to get recognized
I actually installed this rom onto my samsung galaxy s2, the problem is I can't unroot it. Once I installed it, I am able to get into download/odin mode on my phone but my computer just simply won't recognize my phone at all, i tried two different computers with all the drivers installed. I think my phone is bricked. The phone I used to install it is the Samsung Galaxy SII Epic 4g Touch. Because the version I installed was meant for the i9100 european model, when in Odin Mode it says:
Product Name: GT-i9100
Custom Binary Download: Yes (2 counts)
Current Binary: Custom
I had no problem connecting the phone to the computer when I installed the rom for this. Now It just won't connect. I am trying to install the Stock-EG30 to return my phone to the original factory settings but I'm just stuck. I tried different usb slots and different usb cables. Have you ever encountered a similar problem? Anything can help. I feel like my phone has just become a paperweight.
None of my 3 computers are recognizing my phone in odin mode
i installed this a icecream sandwich testing stage update and i want out, but i cant. tried uninstalling and reinstalling samaung kies, its saying i have it installed already but I still installed it, I dont think its the driver problem because my sister has the same phone and she has never rooted it and when in odin mode, her phone was easily recognized. Right now when i go to about phone in its new format, it is no longer a sph i710 phone (sprint model) apparently, here are the details:
Model Number
GT-i9100
Android version
4.0.1
Baseband Version
Unknown
Kernal Version
3.0.9i9100xxkp1-cl16459
[email protected] #3
Build number
GT-i9100-eng 4.0.1 ITL41D 595 test-keys
Any help please?
the bottom line is i need to get my computer to recognize my device and it just wont. ive tried everything i could research and think of
There is no 4.0.3 Android for the E4GT (Sprint CDMA version)
There was someone else who flashed a european ROM, username nursemm or something like that. They tried a couple of things including installing the european GSM drivers, and it didn't get recognized. She ended up swapping the phone IIRC.
You already realize the issue. If you can get the phone's USB interface to be recgonized by your PC, then you can most likely get it fixed. If you can't then you probably want to get it replaced.
This is what I would do. Connect the phone to a different PC. If you get some USB ding noises, regardless of whether it is recognized ultimately by the PC, then there is some hope. If not, you might need to get it replaced.
If you do figure out a way to get it recognized, please do post an update. You aren't the first to flash a european ROM and get into this mode where USB isn't recognized, so it would help others.
how am i going to swap the phone? With sprint you mean? Wouldn't the warranty be void since i rooted it? Also, is there any program that can read android version 4.0.3 or will there be one coming out?
you could always use a usb jig, or dongle whatever you want to call it, it will put your device into download mode so you can odin away i bought one off ebay for like 2$
Did the same thing... if you find answer that lets the odin pick up or a fix, please email [email protected] or facebook.com/chapman711 thanks
you installed a rom meant for different hardware. the reason odin isnt picking it up is because its bricked. best option is to file insurance claim to get another one, hopefully you got insurance.
even if there is a way to unbrick it... its going to be a hassle and a half to res it.
if your screen comes on with the exclamation point search around for ways around that so you can file a claim. good luck man
if your phone boots to download mode try other drivers/software on pc for the european model
The same thing happened to me. I looked around for a solution but was unable to find one. I ended up just going through the sprint insurance and reported my phone lost and paid $100 for a new one.
I hope you all learn to read the next time around.

I can get into download mode, but odin doesn't recognize, the only other screen i get too sdays "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in kies and try again, but Kies cant connect to it, am i screwed? Please help this all happened from changing my screen density, i cant find anyway too restore, i'm not a noob and am in desperate help, i'm gonna be soo bummed if i brick, but i have a feeling if i can get too download mode, there must be a way too restore it.
BbbYou say no recovery, but you should have at least stock recovery I think. Try holding volume up and power, is you can get in, restore to stock from there.
If doesn't work I would start by reinstalling the drivers or try a different computer.
You'll be fine.
Also you should state you rom, what you did before, rooted, etc

I flashed the newest version of Roman BB's AOKP CM9 Kang and tried to change the density, i went too restore my nandroid and it froze before it finished, I tried odin and the first 2 times it recognized but both froze before the end. im kinda couch surfing so now i'm incredibally screwed without a phone, please help.

Roman bb's most updated AOKP, i changed the screen density and when i went to reboot it bootlooped, so i tried restoring a nandroid wich failed, tryed again, and now i cant get too recovery, i can only get too download mode, so i tried using odin too go back too stock, it failed almost at the end, twice, now i cant get odin to recognize my phone and it wont turn on, the only thing i can do is get too download mode, and too the thing saying use kies recovery, which does nothing because it won't connect. I'm at a total lost, i'm so scared i lost my only source of income, at this point in my life, if i dont have a phone, i dont have work or food or a warm place too sleep. Please anyone with any ideas please help.
I hate to be the one to tell you this but you're probably bricked. The giveaway is if you have problems in Odin at data.img:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1504808
Will recommend that if you have further questions to post in that thread.
When going from ICS to anything else you should use ODIN to go back to stock. Anything else and you're risking a brick. More here:

Hope this helps.
One quick question - which phone are you using and which usb cable for odin?
Be sure that using the original usb cable during odin.

I've never heard that one before. What do you think is unique about the stock micro-usb cable?
micro usb cable is not unique. There's standard size of micro usb and pin numbers, etc. But based on the product, it's not fit well each other.
One example is old LG micro usb cable is not going well with Samsung phones.
Of course, I tried this by myself and it always fails. But original micro usb cable which comes together with phone, it never failed.

Yeah now that you mention it I realized my nook color micro usb cable has a longer metal end-piece than my E4GT, and won't connect properly. I thought the length of the metal prong would have also been standardized. Go figure.

This is the problem unless you flashed a gb kernel/recovery first. You should not do anything in ICS recovery.

Its true not all cables are the same, but the funny part is from the beginning of OG Epic days we figured out quick the only thing you should do with the stock cable is charge... its garbage. Maybe the new model is better, havent tried it, but it looked pretty much the same, thin little thing... I use my 4 year old BBerry cable, about as thick as a cat-5... never had an issue. But yeah, try new drivers, cable, diff PC, use a USB that is physically part of the Motherboard of the PC (desktop)... all these things help with the shoddy drivers, etc... you may get lucky...

But you said you did attempt a restore through CWM after the bootloop, correct? If you did and you're having problems you *may* have bricked. Using ODIN is a surefire way to confirm whether you did or not. If you didn't attempt anything through CWM while having CM9 installed then you may not be bricked but are obviously still having issues. As it has been said before - and quite often - CWM at your own risk; ODIN is believed to be the safest option.
Regardless, if you're having problems and the USB cable doesn't fix it I'll still recommend trying to get back to a GB stock ROM by ODIN. At the worst you've lost what you have done since the last backup, since you can restore that from the backup once you get back to GB. With so many bricked phones lately it may be best to err on the side of caution this time...
I've tried everything mentioned, except a different pc, i tried linux, on my pc odin doesntr recognize my phone, , but i just went and plugged a flash fdrive in so now im thinking my computer is having usb problems, so im gonna try another computer, i also made a usb jig to reset the odin counter too take it too sprint but it didnt work... i'm so confused and screwed without my phone. Thank you everyone for trying too help. Any more ides are greatly appreciated! Thanks soo much guys!
ive had this problem before and basically my phone would turn on but no signal sd card didnt work wouldent read in computer but if you cant get it to work and have fifty bucks u can go to mobiletechvideos.com and it will take about mabe 3-4 days mine took a week since i sent on a friday but it costs fifty bucks and the only thing when i came back that wasnt working 100% was the picture gallery. true him if it comes down to it
Well, since you're getting the firmware upgrade error, I'm gonna bet your phone is bricked. That happened to me, I finally took it to the Spring repair center and they couldn't fix it, so they swapped my phone out.

Sprint Epic 4G Touch Appears Bricked
My Sprint Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch will no longer connect to my computer (also tried another computer and different usb cable), after a failed attempt to upgrade to ICS 4.0. The phone will not load up now to 'normal' operating mode.
It will only come up to the message:
"Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again." I can no longer get into Recovery or Download modes. At least none that work. (See below)
I also built and tried the USB jig solution, which does power on the phone, but it then comes up and says:
FACTORY MODE
PRODUCT NAME" GT-19100
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: YES (2 counts)
CURRENT BINARY: SAMSUNG OFFICIAL
Downloading...
Do not turn off target!!
But connecting to my PC still fails. Any ideas?
Got my MTV jig today...I'm charging the battery to my bricked SG3 at the moment in an external charger to make sure it has enough juice to get the job done. The MTV site said this jig will work on ALL SG's 2 and 3 so I guess this will be the ultimate test since I'm reading different things everywhere. Now for my question(s), am I supposed to be able to just plug the jig in, do the key combo for download mode and then the magic happens immediately? I also need to get a stock rom, not the one with root injected because I was reading the instructions on how to install the root injected rom and it says Odin needs to do the install for it. I dont see how that'll happen in my phone's current state (hard bricked). Say the jig works and download mode pops up, will it continue popping up on its own like if I were to plug into the pc? Sorry, just slightly confused
If you're hard bricked a jig won't work for that. You would need to get a JTAG service to fix a hard brick. But. If its not hard bricked then all you need to do is plug the jig in and your device will automatically go into download mode. Then from there you can use odin to flash a stock ROM and you'll be up and running again.

...please tell me you're joking....
I thought the jig was to bypass whatever is causing the phone not to boot allowing you to at least get into download mode or recovery....I have a feeling I'm gonna puke now. It's definitely hard bricked. I accidentally loaded an i9300 rom on my i747...completely dead to the world.

A jig is only useful for a soft brick as task has said, hard brick needs a jtag repair.

Hello, I purchased a phone off kijiji fully knowing it was not functional - For the 40 dollars my curiosity got the best of me; and if I can fix it well I can get myself a new phone for cheap. I was informed that this phone: Samsung Galaxy sgh-i747m had the latest update (not custom rom). The phone suddenly would not boot past Samsung logo and by the time I bought it, would not boot up at all. So after doing extensive research I decided I would give the 16gb class 10 sd card boot a chance. While somewhat of a success, the only thing it boots me to is this.
BOOT RECOVERY MODE (IN GREEN)
CHECK BOOT PARTITIONS
COPY FROM T-FLASH
BOOT RECOVERY
WRITE 159488 SECTORS
FLASH WRITE FAILURE (RED)
ODIN MODE (RED)
PRODUCT NAME: SGH-I747M
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: NO
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: NONE
QUALCOMM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE
Warranty Bit: 0
BOOTLOADER AP SWERV: 1
I should note that with the debrick-SGH-I747M-UEMK5 image that I used, the phone will boot to recovery mode without holding any buttons(While Plugged in). It will also boot to recovery if it is unplugged and I simply hold and release the power button when I feel the vibrate. I have also tried volume down + home + power. Same thing. If I take the sd card out I cannot get any sign of life / no recovery mode.
The computer does not see the device at all, even in device manager as a random name. There are no signs of life on the computer end. ODIN also does not detect it even when in boot recovery mode. Will not boot to download mode. A red light comes on if I pull the battery out and plug in the usb cable.

No, I was contemplating making one or ordering one online but was unsure if that would make any difference. But I am willing to try anything even if there is a slight possibility it could work.
Where are you located? I recall seeing a thread on XDA about people that has a USB job for use by other XDA members.

Another solution may be to have the firmware flashed via jtag.
You should be able to flash with Odin from there if I'm not mistaken. (Been a long time since I've been through this part myself). You may need to try different drivers, different cables, usb ports, etc.

Yea I didn't want to have to go that route if possible as my goal was to gain experience and knowledge from this little project. If I got the phone working then I would just replace my old Samsung infuse. I made the USB Jig using the 301K ohm's and it still does not work. I know the jig works because I tested it on my wife sgh-i747m and also on my infuse. Both of which boot into download mode immediately. My concern is there is something wrong with the main board because it really doesn't seem like it was rooted at all.
I am just going to see what I can get for it at this point, I paid 70 so would be looking to get at least 60

You said it'll boot recovery, is it stock or a custom one? Also, are you familiar with ADB?
When you plug it into the computer, is it detected by odin? If so, what does it say in the message box when you try to flash?
Look in device manager too. What does it detect the device as?

Sorry, I have the SGH-i747. The phone only boots with the SD card and just stays in download mode. Odin doesn't recognize it.

What was the last stock ATT ROM on the phone? Can the phone boot into download mode without the external SD card?
When you connect the phone to you computer in download mode, are you prompted to install drivers? If you are using Windows, any unrecognized devices in device manager?
And don't forget to try different cables and every USB port on the computer. Cables go bad much more easily than most people think, and many charging cables cannot be used for data transfer.
I've seen a number of times where people found that only one of the USB ports would allow it to connect.
You might also want to try several different driver versions. (I'd start with the oldest that was release along with the S3.) You can find several in the link in my signature.

Hello experts,
I have Samsung Note 2 N7105 32GB that is soft-bricked. I happened without any trials for flashing. I was skiing one day and went back and everything was good. The next day i left my phone home to charge. and since then it is a boot loop. when i try to switch it on, or sometimes just when USB cable is connected it tries to boot. I get samsung logo and then "downloading", like the attached picture (sorry, i can't add a picture. ask me if it 's needed)
When i tried to install original firmware using different Odin versions including v3.6 and v3.11 i get error message something like "PIT is not available" or "Cannot find PIT", even when i repartitioning option is selected.
So what i thought is that it is a HW issue.
The phone does not go into restore mode (it entered restore mode once, but not any more) but it can go to download mode and i can see there the device model and all other details. first i thought of SDS but for me it might not be the case, because it was long time after the SDS was detected and i have already updated the phone firmware to the latest version. Also i read that a faulty eMMC would result to not show the device name on Odin Mode (But may be i am wrong) and what i read is that the 32GB version is less likely to have it.
I took it to Samsung Customer Service and they wanted to fix it by changing the main board, which is pretty costy for such an old phone, and what i really want from the phone is the data.
Can someone help me to suggest how to get the data out of the eMMC? Any help would be appreciated

if it doesnt not show model number it could be SDS(sudden death issue) famous for note 2 series

Thanks for your answer. I am not allowed to post links, because I am a new memeber. But in downlaod mode i can see the model number. That's why i don't think it's SDS. Now, I want to restore my app data instead of changing the mainboard
