So I've got this notification that will not go away. (clearing does nothing).
When I tap on it, it says it's downloading an upgrade to what appears to be stock voicemail mail. When done, it asks
Code:
This is a system application. Do you still want to replace it?
All previous user data will be saved.
When I hit "OK", I get the standard install approval screen, hit "install", then get bounced to a screen that just says "Application not installed" with just a "done" on the bottom.
Seeing as how I use Google Voice for my voicemail and not sprint, I could care less about the regular voicemail app, but being able to get rid of the notification would be great.
Any help in trying to remove this annoying notification would be awesome.
Thanks!
Just delete the sprint vvm.apk from /system/ and that should do it.
I'm having the exact same problem. I've tried moving the vvm apk out from underneath after the download finishes and the install is about to start, and no joy. I still get "not installed."
Thoughts?
I'm guessing that I have to remove this file using something other than Astro? Keeps telling me that it can't delete files, looks like the permissiosn are read only, and I can't find a way to change the permissions.
You need to be rooted to write to system. Then you can use adb or root explorer.

If you're using a custom ROM Sprint stuff may not update because the developer of your ROM signed it. Check for updates with your ROM developer (website or an update tool), most of the developers have already made their own VVM update from Sprint's release.
Just another hole to cover so we can't root, just a thought.
Same problem here. Renaming the .apk via adb then rebooting did the trick.
Guys, I figured this one out today.
I got the same "unable to install" message when I tried to install the new one. First thing I did, was uninstall the stock one using Titanium backup, but any method should work the same. Then rebooted the phone and tried the install again.
It went through with no problems. Check my sig for info, but I think this should work with any custom ROM.
Also, please note that I had a copy of the install file on my SD card and I accessed it via EStrongs file explorer. Again, I don't think it matters which file explorer you use, but having it on your SD card may be the key.
Edit: I used this link to get the file on my SD card:

Did you follow my previous post?
1) DL the file on the link I provided from another thread on here.
2) Mount your SD as disk drive and click and drag it onto your SD card.
3) Uninstall the current voicemail app on your phone (if you don't have Titanium backup paid version, you will need to use Astro or another app that can uninstall apps from the phone)
4) Reboot your phone.
5) Use a file explorer to find the zip file you put on your phone, and install it.
You should be good to go.

I followed these instructions step by step and I can get the voicemail app to load but it doesn't work. I don't get my messages, I hit the "check for updates" button and get a box that comes up and tells me there was a general error. I've updated my profile and my prl. Please let me know what I need to do to get this fixed. I'm on BS 1.5.
Thanks in Advance

Well, I am not an expert by any means. I can tell you that this worked for me the first time I tried it. By any chance, can you install the old version back on? Or, did you back-up your ROM in any way where you can go back to the way your phone was before you started so at least the old app is on there and working?
If not, hopefully someone can chime in who knows more on the subject.
easiest way of fixing this should be to use SteelH's flashable vvm update zip found on his rom thread here;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=743781
I think it works on any rom.

I did the following steps and still no go.
1. Flashed SteelH's zip.
2. Updated my profile.
3. Updated my prl.
4. Rebooted.
5. Called my cell and left two voicemails.
I never got a notitication and when I try to check for updates I get a general error. And when I hit the button to change my greeting, a box comes up saying it will connect me with my voicemail, but nothing ever happens.
I found an old version of the voicemail app and tried that and I get the same results. I must be doing something wrong or there is something wrong with my phone.
Any ideas for me to try, would be greatly apperciated.

Sorry - that link will only solve the issue in the OP - how to update to the latest version of vvm (v5.1.0.34), and get rid of notifications that a new version of vvm is available.
You're having a different issue - you're having an issue getting your message notifications. Can't help you with that one.
I just restored back to a version of BS 1.3 I backed up on Monday and my voicemail worked. But I got the voicemail upgrade message so I then flashed SteelH's voicemail zip and it now works perfect. I get my messages and notifications. Now I guess I try to load BS 1.5 again. But that'll wait until another day, I don't have the time now to completely wipe my phone and set it back up.
Thanks for the help.

no prob - and BS 1.5 includes the latest vvm too, so you won't need to use that zipfile again.
edit - just noticed you were on BS before all of this - I guess it was those other steps that messed things up for you.
I don't know what happened. I was working fine until I went to BS 1.5. When I went to BS 1.5 the notification to upgrade my voicemail was gone but my voicemail didn't work, that's when I started not getting my messages or notifications. And then I started trying to load different versions of the voicemail app and trying different things. But I agree with you, it's probably something I did while setting my phone back up after BS 1.5 and didn't know I did it.
Thanks again.

Hey man that worked like a charm!
Thanks!
I flashed Cyanogenmod 7.1.0 on an Evo 4G on Sprint service and now I get text messages that say I need to call 408.970.0000 to get my VM. When I called it I got a recording about having a smart phone with SMS or something or another and I wasn't sure what it asked me but I pressed option '2' and it said something to the effect that it would continue sending me SMS voice mails but that's not what I want. I don't like getting the cryptic text messages and would much rather have the previous VM solution I had. I think it's called visual voice mail or something to that effect.
If I want that back and to do away with the SMS notifications what are my steps?
Can anyone help me out or link me to a how to and how to resolve my voice mail issue?
I found something about a Spring VM apk so do I just need to install this app and if so where can I find the latest one compatible with CM7?
Thanks for the help.

Which topic specifically?
Since posting this thread I kept searching and I've found some threads talking about a Spring VVM apk and I've downloaded what I think is the right file that I may try. Now I'm just trying to make sure this is my solution.
Try the themes and apps subforum. Your answer is there.

We are in the middle of this same discussion on another thread so im guna hook ya up. First, download the two apps i linked below. Then using root explorer or a file manager that has root privileges mount system as r/w and delete the stock CM7 MMS app in system/app folder. Than move the MMS app i linked to system/app. Long click the MMS app and make sure permissions are set exactly like the other system apps, click ok. Now do the same with the VVM app below, move it to system apps and set permissions as well. Mount the system as r/o again and reboot your phone. Go into the VVM app and set up VVM and thats it. You will now have visual voice mail again and no annoying 9016 texts. BTW, the MMS app i posted is from Decks AOSP 1.3d rom(that has the fix for the 9016 texts) and the VVM app is from the 8/22 GAPPS, Enjoy.......

Thanks, I'll try it out soon as I get a chance. I installed an apk based on something I found and it kind of worked but I was getting those annoying 9016 texts like you mentioned. I'll give this a go when I get some more time.

I have not tried that rom but the issue we are trying to fix is the annoying texts you get with every vm from 9016. I know this works with the salvaged rom too. The vm come through on your vm app though? Also, some have had success with the following if the VVM app is not verifying there account automatically. Press menu in VVM and compose a message over 25 seconds long. Send the message to [email protected] and make sure you have either wifi or 3g enabled so it will send. This should kick start it.
Use super private conversation app to block 9016 txt. Spc is a free app.

The part in bold above; is it just called MMS.apk or should I be looking for a file called CM7 MMS? Just want to make sure I delete the right one before I get started here. Also, is this process going to be changed any because I installed the VVM apk before you posted this or will following your steps still yield the same results?

Yes the app you are looking for is in system/app and is called Mms.apk. The icon looks just like the messaging app in your app drawer. If you already have VVM set up and working than just delete stock Mms app and replace with new Mms app and reboot, thats all.

Flawless Victory!
I just wanted to quote this post again for anyone who may be searching for a solution to the same problem. Since I had already installed the VVM I simply deleted the MMS apk and replaced as instructed and it worked perfectly. Thanks again for taking the time to post up the fix and link the files needed.
For the record, I searched and while I found ZERO answers to my problem there were sure a lot of people suggesting to search as the answer was as easy as falling off a log and that wasn't the case. I get SO frustrated when people offer zero help and instead ridicule any and every post looking for help to somehow make themselves feel better. No, the answer isn't always that simple and no you're not helping anyone. If you don't have the answer, a link to the answer or at least first hand knowledge that the answer for sure exists someplace recent then do everyone a favor and move along w/o posting. This forum is made better from people like luist4498 who actually contribute and not people like you who appear only to be around to pad their post count.

Thanks for the heads up but I'm not one to flash ROMs on a regular basis. I was running MikG v2.3 for months before a got caught in a boot loop which forced me to reflash a new ROM. At this time I looked at what was available and decided I liked CM7 the best and flashed that. Unless something else catastrophically fails or I find a feature I can't live w/o I will likely rock this ROM for some time to come. If I do change it though I will be sure to do the fix and refer back to this thread for a refresher. Thanks!

Worked great on my evo 4g and CM7.1
Thanks
Ok. So I have been reading a lot around many different Forums about the Voicemail Notifications and it also sending an SMS Notification. Seems the quick fix is the obvious which is installing another SMS Agent and deleting the Stock. Problem is is that to me that is like having the check engine light on in your car and just putting black tape over the light or pulling the bulb. yes it hides the notification but still leaves it broken. My question is What files handle the voicemail? Since all custom roms do not have this problem it seems there is a fix somewhere.
Another question is how can there be a rom with no SystemUI.apk? I flashed Elite Rom and I have searched through every file and folder with Root Explorer,Rom Toolbox,ESFile Explorer and Astro File Manager and yet to find the first thing that even as much as says systemUI.
What Rom are you running? Does the voicemail thing happen on Elite Rom? Just block the sms text that it sends you. As for systemui.apk its in system/app, and if its not there try looking in data/sysapp or something similar
Sent from my PC36100 using xda app-developers app
At the moment I am running Energy Rom. No it doesn't happen on Stock whether odex or not. Doesn't happen on Elite or a few others either. It happens on nearly all ICS or JB Roms and anything with the newer versions of Sense built in.
As for the other I have looked those locations many, many times. What got me to looking is I do not like the Status Bar and it doesn't have screen capture. I tried to just flash both but no go so I decided to just change the systemui.apk file to one that does work. If your interest is now peeked I would say download and unzip the Rom and search for yourself. There isn't a file or folder I can find that I haven't checked. Also flashed it and checked via root to see if it was a file that I would only find once flashed. Haven't located it in 2 days looking but the Rom does work except I can't change the ui to something else.

SystemUI.apk is right here (see attachment)
Its in /system/app.
As for the ics thing, i cant help you there because i never run those.
Thanks for the screenie but it is Elite Rom with no SystemUI.apk but after much travel through Google Search the best I can figure is that the version used for the Rom doesn't have this file. I read somewhere that 2.1 and before didn't use the file which is what this Rom was based off.
As for the voicemail coming in SMS I found 2 different fixes but 1 doesn't work for me and the other I do not know how to do. First is an SMS to 9999 saying Block 9016. Got a reply saying blocked but the very next message also sent an SMS. Not sure if it is just my phone or no so......The other is to replace the Phone.apk in system/app with one from a rom which doesn't have this problem. I tried many different Roms using Root Explorer to copy/paste the file and recovery to fix permissions but always came up with stopping unexpectedly errors. I did do the wipe cache/davlik also. Is there another step to this process I am overlooking? This SMS 9016 is what is causing me to not use a ICS Rom that is really awesome otherwise. I really don't want to install the bloated GoSMS or HandscentSMS.
Fix Model
This will install a script to fix ro.product.model, CM 10.1 uses GT-N7105 for the model this can cause a few issues with play store and what not. It also shows on xda app and tapatalk. With nightlies coming out every night its a pain to keep changing build.prop to fix so just flash this and run one command then you are set. This will help those not sure or wanting to manually edit build.prop.
This will work for any rom but it seems this issue is only on CM 10.1 because they are supporting other carriers too.
Usage:
Flash in recovery right after flashing/updating CM
Open up terminal emulator and type su be sure the $ changes to #

Mac
Works Beautifully
I have tried this on several different installs - and it works beautifully each time. Thanks for your help with this - a great tool for those 'Flashaholics' amoung us who need to be able to re-identify their phone - thanks again -
Added scripts to enable/disable onscreen keys
It gives me an error message saying: permission denied. The terminal has root and the $ did change to #. Any ideas?
Edit: this was the OnSreen Keys script

Well, I don't think it fixed the voicemail issue. I had to call ATT to get it working. I did go through the instructions with terminal emulator and my correct model is showing now. Thanks for this fix!!
Seems to have fixed the problem! Thanks.

On JellyBam now, but definitely keeping this for when I go back to a TW rom.
Thanks for making this!
Side note-- u know of a way to way to script a change the navbar height?
I usually decomp framework-res, and edit the dimens.xml, but wondering if u knew a diff way.
I know this would make it non-universal, but was just curious.
OP, is it possible to get PCs to recognize our phones as 317 instead of 7105? If there's a way, I'll be all over it.
I unfortunately heavily rely on Kies to sync my Outlook contacts with my phone, and no, I don't like having my contacts only in GMail and running the risk of my address book going blank somehow if data or reception in general cuts out for me, since if that ever happens, I can at least use my phone as an address book to make phone calls through another device. And Kies doesn't seem to want to finish "establishing connection" with my phone... :\

Just FYI, once your contacts are on Google and synced with the phone they won't ever disappear, on the phone or online, unless you delete the account or make changes. Even with no connection you can view them on your device, and they can be exported to a csv file if you want an actual hard-list on your computer as well as the phone. I made the switch from outlook about a year ago & have never looked back. Although I did set up a separate Google account so their location & ad data doesn't ever mingle with my contacts.

OK, so this may not even be the result of running a custom rom because it hasn't worked with any of them. When I click on Voicemail which isn't setup yet by the way, all it does is send me to my messaging app. It gives me no options to set it up, or check voicemail.

I removed the Visual Voicemail application. It can be added back.
The icon for Visual Voice mail is tied to the Messaging app.
I need to edit the messaging app to rid that icon. for now just use the feature to "hide" it in the app drawer.
of it you want the app, pull it outta the bloat.zip
Okay, thanks

OK, so I downloaded the bloat zip and extracted the vvm.apk it gives me the install option but says install failed every time. Any ideas?

are you using my empty flashable.zip..?
just pull vvm.apk and put in system/app
Once I get my phone back, and or you have S-OFF this won't be an issue.
Aroma will solve a lot of these types of issues as well.
Okay, I put it in place of the null file in the app folder in your flashable zip and after re zipping it it failed when flashing

Don't unzip then rezip. Use a tool like 7zip and drop it into the zip. It failed because by unzipping, you broke the signature

exactly what Ty said.
I am expecting my phone back today, and my first project is Aroma..
so bare with me.. (not you Ty)
I will be getting the ROM to where I am comfortable with calling it a full non beta release.
Only reason it's beta is because I don't have Aroma set up yet, once that is set up, it's game on.
you will be able to re-flash the ROM.zip pick "MOD only" and then select JUST the .apk you want (NO you can't remove apps, use root explorer for that, I think S-OFF takes away write protection but I have no idea yet, if not, then, well, we will need to get used to that .zip that deletes files (it's quite easy, once you try it out and everything)

I forgot to come back and post a thank you, it worked great after I placed the apk into the zip and flashed. By the way, I've run every rom available now for the phone and keep coming back to yours, I appreciate your work.

Have you had any luck ridding the VVM icon and whatever else from the messaging app yet. I had a nasty issue related to the new VVM.
I will spell it out here in case anyone else has this issue.
So i like always update my phone when updates come out.
The new VVM has some addition network elements tied to it on the back-end.
Long story short this 443 update has created randomly dropping my mobile connection. I tried re flashing the radios, the stock rom, going back one radio version, etc. I mentioned this in a post in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-htc-one/help/wifi-bluetooth-mobile-data-wont-off-t2883253
I don't believe it is anything we have done in here, but the issue was with exclusively mobile data where it would disconnect but still show 4g, anyways back to the VVM
I had to revert to 442 stock rom as it didn't have the disconnecting issue
Since i already ran the newest 443 VVM app with those additional features, the 442 VVM fails with error code 2004 when on a 442 ROM
So i had to be coy when calling VZW to get them to reset this. Lucky they didn't ask SW/HW versions, so basically they had ' reset the network elements ' associated with the newest version. WORKED!
So if this happens to you , all i said was it came down as an update, i didn't like it, and reverted back and now it does not work, etc.... I tried to find the newest update again but cant find it.
I was wondering how the VVM icon still there after removing the APK, that answers that. I tried to load the newest VVM on 442, and epic fail lolz
Just providing some info for everyone

Foolish me, this is so very simple, I just forgot that you have to do it on a 100% clean flash, you can't use a flashable.zip as it is an .xml system edit.
system/customize/resource/allapplication.xml
basically you edit this .xml just search for "voicemail"
you will find this line of code
Code:
<item type="application" packageName="com.htc.sense.mms" className="com.htc.sense.mms.ui.VoiceMailTabActivity" display_order="200" display_hide="[B][COLOR="Red"]0[/COLOR][/B]" />
change it to
Code:
<item type="application" packageName="com.htc.sense.mms" className="com.htc.sense.mms.ui.VoiceMailTabActivity" display_order="200" display_hide="[B][COLOR="Red"]1[/COLOR][/B]" />
to be quite honest though to save yourself A LOT of time, just hit the menu button in app drawer click hide apps and hide it, that is what this MOD does anyway...
