ok all good

I've had both before with no problems, if some arise get rid of one. You can install SuperSU and uninstall super user if you want. I use SuperSU myself with no issues. You should open whichever app though and see if you get a popup about updating binaries, if you do go ahead and get them, its all automated.

Root ?

Will the method described here [HOWTO] [ROOT] No Tripping Flash Counter - Updated [ATT / Bell / Telus / Rogers]Share Thread:
work with a phone that is already rooted under 4.0.3 or must the phone first be un-rooted? Thanks.
Its an Odin flash, so it rewrites everything. You can use it, but if your already rooted, why would you want to reroot?
I rooted under the original UCLEM 4.0.3 so if I can re-root directly it saves the effort to un-root to stock before re-rooting to stock with root. Does that make sense?
Not to me, but that's not abnormal for me.
Since I don't have enough posts to post in the Dev. forums I would like to thank mr Robinson here for the excellent tutorial and necessary files to root my S3 stock. Thanks man you are exceptioal.
FYI: I rooted over a previous CWM root with no issues. Used an old charge/data cable from my previous Palm Pre+ which worked fine. The firmware is now listed as Official not Custom and the flash counter has gone from 3 to 2.
Fwiw, Triangle Away will reset your flash counter, should you ever need to return for warranty.
Thanks again for the information re: Triangle Away.

[Q] rooting after encryption. - dangerous?

I'd like to get root on my ATT Galaxy S3 which I have upgraded to JB, and I have read the excellent thread in the development section::
[HOWTO] [ROOT] No Tripping Flash Counter - [ATT / Bell / Telus / Rogers / Sasktel]
I'd like to flash the following image:
Current I747UCDLK3 (JB 4.1.1) - NEW JellyBean
BUT my phone has already (unfortunately) been encrypted due to requirements to access my corporate email.
If I flash using this method (Odin/rooted JB image) is this dangerous? I'm worried that the bootloader going to think the phone is encrypted but the partitions won't be? Anyone been successful doing this?
thanks a bunch.
I have never encrypted then rooted, but I have rooted then encrypted. No negative effects until I wanted to flash a new ROM. Then, all hell broke lose. I had to flash stock using Odin, wipe sdcard. I think its safe if you just want to root.. but don't take my word for it.

Installation & root method with CF-Root by @SkyboneNoya
Update:
If you already have a custom recovery installed :
Make a recovery backup of your current rom
(to restore to after you get a custom recovery installed and save it to your computer as well as backing up all SD cards... It’s just a good practice.)
If coming from any other ROM than stock 4.1.2 :
Install 4.1.2 update with odin via SamMobile.com
Clear data/cache/dalvik in recovery (or hang on the Samsung logo for the night).
Upgrade to 4.3 OTA or via Odin
Hint : Use provided links to your carriers images above!
Root method
Go to [SGH-I747/M] CF-Auto-Root|
Follow the steps on post 2 in that thread.
Once rebooted: open up SuperSU, click OK then normal and reboot.
I used the KNOX uninstaller and when trying to restore back to stock I had google apps issue warning locking me out of the system. So use at your own discretion.
You should be good to go.
The rest is pretty easy.
Also, you might have trouble installing custom roms at this point. I747MVLUEMK5 is probably not listed in the installers yet. That's a whole other story.
Other options here as well if the above didn’t work for you. |Guide|How-To| Root & Install Custom Recovery for 4.3 Update |22 Nov 2013|
To enable USB debugging through Developer Options, go in System Settings/About and click on build number about 7 times. (old google trick if you didn’t know)

Can anybody who updated post a screen shot of their about screen in settings please?

Just completed the update. So far, so good.
Some minor (but nice) visual enhancements, speed is at least as good as before, nothing to complain about but nothing groundbreaking (but nobody was expecting that from 4.3).
Can't post a screeshot right now but baseband is mk5 and kernel is 3.0.31-2140838
I updated with kies and I'm with Rogers.
I haven't done a factory reset (like I usually do after a major update) but the responsiveness of my phone makes me believe it may not be necessary. Time will tell.
updating right now 555.85mb download

Had to go into recovery which I still had after flashing 4.1.2 over odin. Wiped data/cache and reboot.
Downloaded installed 4.3 OTA Just going to try gain root and see how it goes.
Updating the baseband
Hi, I am running my s3 i747m fido on Quantum Rom V3 RC3 kitkat 4.4. I was wondering can i flash the Fido baseband using recovery. (I have Clockwork Mod for my recovery screen). Or do I need to go back to stock to do this first?
thanks
Was on quantam, downloaded this and flashed it via odin, installed fine but taking forever to boot just samsung and the led is blue
what if I use only clockworkmod to flash it? Will it brick my phone ?
Also I bought the phone from Rogers but I am using it with Fido. Which baseband should I use Fido or Rogers?

The files on sammobile are full firmware files, which include bootloader, modem etc. You can use kies or odin to flash them but i don't think you can through cwm.
I'd use the Rogers firmware if it was me, but I can't be sure.

Use whatever firmware you got with the phone. Rogers would come with Rogers.
Thanks for the replies.
Because I am not too familiar with Odin, If I go back to stock and install the 4.3 firmware via OTA then root the phone and install Quantum Rom will the firmware still be updated? Sorry if it is a newb questions.
Thanks.

How to downgrade to 4.1.1 from 4.3 Galaxy S3 SGH-I747M

Hi, a month ago I did something wrong with my Galaxy S3 SGH-I747M for not read here before do an upgrade that the new bootloader are locked and have a new counter called Knox but I upgrade to 4.3 from Rogers because I don't want to wait for the official 4.3 Claro Network, then I want to downgrade but Odin FAIL Oh noooo and trip the new counter to 1, when I knew what the problem was, I do a mixed Rom and works Very good on Claro Puerto Rico Network and I want to share my knowledge and what I do to this Model of S3 variation, I want to help and to be helped too. Just follow this simple instruction:
JUST FOR GALAXY SGH-I747M DEVICES
I don’t know if works with other variant of S3 or Samsung Devices.
I want to Share the way to downgrade your S3 Canadian Version to previous version, I do it with 4.1.1 no network or Wi-Fi problems, and you don’t need any patch for this.
1- From Sammobile download your Rom 4.3 JB version.
2- From Sammobile download your Rom 4.1.1 JB version.
3- Download Odin307.zip and extract.
4- Only Windows users, download this program and install it Cygwin.
5- To extract Tar file you need 7zip or Winrar, then extract from 4.3 JB the following file: NON-HLOS.bin. I know you’re asking why NON-HLOS.bin, because this is the modem and network file and the 4.3 bootloader installed in you’re phone don’t work with the older, we need the newer from 4.3 for the phone works correctly.
6- Extract from 4.1.1 JB all the files except aboot.mbn and NON-HLOS.bin.
7- Go to C:/cygwin/home/'win_user_name' just cut & paste all the extracted file there without making any folder.
8- Open Cygwin Terminal cut & paste the following codes:
First Code:
tar -H ustar -c boot.img cache.img.ext4 NON-HLOS.bin recovery.img rpm.mbn sbl2.mbn sbl3.mbn system.img.ext4 tz.mbn > S3ModedRom.tar
When Finish
Second Code:
md5sum -t S3ModedRom.tar >> S3ModedRom.tar
Then
Third Code:
mv S3ModedRom.tar S3ModedRom.tar.md5
9- Run Odin, go to PDA bottom and Find new Rom called S3ModedRom.tar.md5.
10-Restart you’re Phone and after it vibrate press Volume Down + Menu Button will show Download Mode press volume up and connect your device through usb cable to PC.
11- On Odin Hit start, when it’s complete and say PASS you’re done!!
If this helps please hit Thanks :good:
NV files and IMEI Restore
To let you know, besides having the problem for upgrade from 4.1.1 to the version 4.3 and then downgrade to the previous version apparently I deleted with the CWM-Recovery the EFS folder and NV files, but I had read a post about it and it worked, of course this is for the one who wipes these files, but since I had made a backup of the EFS folder, so what I needed was to rewrite the NV files, but I did not have a backup of my NV Files and now WHAT, but thanks to God my wife has the same phone and I copy their NV Files and everything worked fine following the steps here: (FIX)(SOLVED) Deleted or Injected IMEI and No signal or stock on Edge :good::highfive:
Did you know what gonna be if this dont work?
On 4.1.1 i have 5h screen and now on 4.3 its onli 3,5h...
I will try it If I do not sell s3 soon.

Hi , all about downgrade from 4.3 is real because this happened to me and I did all of I wrote here for downgrade, this was my experience and all I do I wrote it here, I know this works, and you're phone will be fine, BUT WARNING if you try to root the phone maybe you can trip the Knox counter to 1, I recomend to you search about root without trip Knox counter, but if you already trip the Knox counter do not worry to root it.
Or you could flash a 4.1.1 Rom from recovery... Just to simplify your steps... Hyperdrive is a superb Rom even on android version 4.1.2.

If the phone is running a stock 4.3 ROM and the knox counter has not been tripped, installing a custom recovery and custom rom will trip the knox counter. If there's no warranty left, tripping the counter would not be a problem.

Exactly
Once the knox counter has been tripped, there is no way to reset it... I believe it deletes a file that is needed to verify knox authenticity as soon as md5 sums between kernel, filesystems, mounts, etc... has a mismatch. Resetting it is possible.... You would need that one file back though.
Does downgrading allow you to unlock the phone for free?

Yes, but I don't test it in this type of case where the bootloader is 4.3, you can try if not we need to wait that Chainfire found a way to remove knox bootloader and downgrade to previews version of bootloader 4.1.1 or 4.1.2.

No, I told in early post that is for a virgin phone with Stock 4.1.1 not 4.3 not rooted, that's my wife phone is virgin.

Reverting back to rooted stock firmware..... Is this possible?

Hey Guys,
My phone information is listed in the picture attached.
I'd like to go back to just the rooted stock firmware. Is this possible to just download the rooted firmware and just flash it with CWM?
Can someone point me in the right direction. With a link to the firmware maybe and a process in how I could achieve this.
Rogers Galaxy S3 (Canada)
You can download your firmware from http://sammobile.com/firmwares
You have to flash these in Odin and unless its the NF1 build you can root with Towelroot.
There is no pre-rooted kk firmware.
Hi!
In addition to what DocHoliday77 said: Samsung does not provide pre-rooted official firmware, but you can find CWM-flashable or Odin-flashable ones in the S3 Android Development forum. I.e.:
[ROM][STOCK] Rogers/Bell/Telus [TW 4.3/MK5/ROOTED] KNOX/NO-KNOX - 12/05/13
[HOWTO] [ROOT] No Tripping Flash Counter - [ATT / Bell / Telus / Rogers / Sasktel]
I would also suggest you browse through the pages of the Android Dev forum, as you may find other stock rooted ROMs available. The thread that present stock and/or rooted ROM have it indicated in the thread's subject. Instructions are also written in those threads on how to install the ROM.
Moreover, if you have in the past upgraded to at least Android 4.3, make sure not to install a firmware older than 4.3 (or at least, the bootloader part, as you will brick your phone).
I would only add to that by saying if you flash anything outside of this sub-forum, be careful abd make absolutely sure it is compatible with your device. Flashing roms intended for other devices often results in a hard brick.
